I went to this Genki soon after the reopening after the hepatitis incident and was one of three customers in the whole place. It was super clean, food was good and came out quickly, and I had a full staff of servers checking on me regularly. Nice. Fast forward to today...I went there again and it was slightly busier than last time (very slightly - maybe 6 parties total?). The servers were all really nice and friendly, very clean still, BUT it was obvious that all the downtime lately has caused the staff to relax a little. And when I say "relax" I mean it sounded like there was a kickin' house party going on in the kitchen. I'm all for happy cooks so I wasn't about to complain but the sound of the club music in the kitchen (not to mention the loud singing when their favorite song came on) clashing with the pleasant restaurant music up front didn't exactly scream "professional establishment". AND I'm not sure if the partying was distracting them from what they were doing back there but they started sending out everything I ordered again AFTER I had already finished all my food. My Genki of choice is Kapahulu. I ventured out to the windward side today to take my grandfather (who's suppose to be retired ) to check on his Star Bulletin account. He fly's in from the Big Island once a week, and I'm his chauffer. He's in a meeting right now and Genki is literally across the street. I brought my laptop in so I wouldn't look like a loser eating all by my lonesome. Except for the hostess, clearly SINGLING me out, " JUST ONE?" "YOU BY YOURSELF?" Ummm......I just told her that. Shh! does she have to be so loud? Sheesh! This is my 3rd or 4th time eating here, I always order my sushi (if u can call it that) from the guys making it. At least I know, it hasn't been touched and put back by any one else. They raised the ahi plates from RED to Silver now because the price of ahi went up. My other half, commercial fishes now and then, the price of fresh ahi has been fluctuating but tragically for us, not that much. Now what they serve at Genki, is not fresh but previously frozen and that's been the same price since 2 years ago. Lying Genki Bastards, charging $4 bucks for two thinly sliced previously frozen pieces of fish. You should be ashamed of yourselves. Foodlands previously frozen Ahi is still $6 bucks a pound. That's retail, and about 25 pieces of fish. Stop lying to your consumers. People, you can go to any decent sushi restaurant and get fresh maguro nigiri for a buck more. After being conditioned to be used to California Pizza Kitchen 30 minutes wait-time for a good part of my high school life, waiting a Genki Sushi 30 minutes wait time seemed to fly by since in fact, it was quicker than 30 minutes. Cool cool cool. What made this venture out to Kaneohe (forgive me, for I am quite the townie) even cooler was seeing and eating at what our friends said was the newly renovated Genki Sushi. Yes, the sleek modern design of the interior and what appears to be super plush booth seats (don't be fooled, my friends, it is not) is nice and all. The main attraction, however, is the super fancy ooh-worthy race cars that hold your delicious sushis (the plural of sushi?) of choice. Order from an iPad = sushi of choice comes delivered on a car contraption that whizzes to your table making an slightly noticeable noise to indicate that, YES, YOU DID JUST GET YO SUSHI WHIZZED TO YOU ON A CAR, SEND ME BACK FOR I HAVE MORE SUSHI TO MAGICALLY DELIVER. Of course, my go-to sushi of choice include spicy ahi, the spicy BOMB (kapoosh!), unagi, and shrimp tempura, all of which was kind of pricey considering I could go to Kat's Sushi (all you can eat) and majorly pig out. Good thing I was being lady-like and only ordered several things instead of my usual twenty (but it also did help that I was feeling full from theater style popcorn just a few hours before). A friend and I decided we wanted to eat some sushi instead of Panda Express.. Boy, we shoulda went to Panda. Read on and I'll tell you a story. We arrived around noon, which amazingly wasn't too busy. (wonder why..) We were greeted and seated in about 3 minutes. I don't usually order from the belt, so I ordered a tobikko, spicy tuna temaki, and the ikageso. My friend had the spicy tuna and kabocha. All dishes arrived relatively quick by some young gentleman, possibly in their teens... Our spicy tuna looked like the dang roll was on a diet. There was more rice than anything... Not really worth the $2.80 man. Next, the tobikko was terrible! Never had I had a tobikko that tasted like plastic u___u and lastly, the ikageso was so chewy, it was basically like gum with shitty unagi sauce. (Pardon the jank language) My friend had the same problem with her roll, and her kabocha was so hard she couldn't eat it o___O Really disappointing. Where's the quality control? Non existent man. Some tips for the newbie Genki Sushi-goer: 1) please, PLEASE put the wasabi back after you're done. This is considered disgraceful in Japanese culture; if Wasabi is handled incorrectly the waitress will give you a katana and kindly ask you to commit harikiri. 2) take one plate at a time - don't grab a lot of plates at once, or you'll end up paying for sushi you don't eat, or eating sushi until you're sick! 3) don't eat the cheese cake - it's the one from Costco, the worse part is they have it in a refrigerator in the back so you can see it's crappy cheese cake. 4) don't go when it's dead, at the Kaneohe location it's usually right after opening, or around 3:00 PM. When it's dead, they don't make new sushi, they just let it circulate for hours until someone eats it. 5) If you're going to order, be sure to ask them to make it for you, or they'll just go to the other side of the restaurant, grab it from the conveyor belt, and put it on your table. When you order it, the expectation is that it will be fresh. Don't settle for crappy sushi! 6) If you're going to stuff yourself, and you know you're going to get stuffed, order a bowl of miso - it helps the sushi go down. read more

Was totally disappointed in Genki sushi Kaneohe today. I have been a patron for well over 5 years, the Kaneohe location was my go to. Almost always take out, over 10 reward cards used, never a problem with take out. Today, they insisted that it is not valid on take out orders. Horrible service and long wait time. If I could I would give this place a 0. When we first got here we were told that it was about a 5 to 10 minute wait, which turned into a 20-30 minute wait. As soon as we sat down, we asked for water and hot tea, apparently our waitress forgot about us because she sat another table and immediately got them their refreshments. She then proceeded to pass by us about 3-4 times without checking on us and not giving us hot tea. We even ordered the hot tea on the order pad. Still didn't come !!!! We're about 30 minutes in and still no hot tea and about 4 plates of food. Horrible and very lazy staff !! I had high expectations for this location since they recently renovated but boy how wrong was I. My boyfriend and I came in on Saturday (10-3-15) around 2pm. It wasn't crowded and we were seated right away. The hostess who seated us wasn't too friendly. She gave us water but didn't give us sauce bowls so we had to ask. My boyfriend asked if they served beer and she just said, "NO" then just walked away. The least she could do was give an apology or an explanation. After that we ordered using the touch screen. I never take anything off the belt because god knows how long the raw fish has been rotating around. I just hope that they make it fresh and don't just take it off of the belt. I was quite disappointed with how long it took the food to reach our table. I ordered a california tempura roll and it took 15 minutes to come out. Towards the ending of our meal my boyfriend ordered another fried squid combo and that took a little over 10 minutes to come out. That is so unacceptable given that there were only around 7 other parties seated. But there was a clear explanation as to why our food took so long to come out. As we were walking to the car I saw over 5 cooks sitting outside on the side of the restaurant talking story and having a "smoke break." I don't think everyone needs to be on break at the same time... One more thing. I was contemplating on giving two stars but because of this they deserve only one. My boyfriend was sitting facing towards the front door and the area where the waiters/waitresses fill drinks. Yes it has a conveyor belt and yes the sushi is good. The service is alright but if you order food expect to wait forever. Every time we go here and we order food it takes forever. Sometimes when the food finally come out you don't want it anymore. The last time we went there not only did the food take forever but the sushi on the belt was almost nonexistent. On top of that our server did not check up on us which ruined the experience. We did get an apology but the didn't make up for our sub par experience. I didn't give it one star just because it does have some good sushi when they finally bring it out to you. Just learned that you can't bring alcohol anymore either, major bummer. Of all the Genki Sushi places I've been too, the Kaneohe location is my favorite. It's clean, usually not as busy as the ones in town and I think the service is good overall. Like most conveyor belt sushi joints, freshness is an issue, especially when it's not very busy. We usually order a bunch of things as soon as we are seated. I would definitely order anything fried rather than taking it off the belt. Also if you go within an hour of closing time, the belt is going to look pretty empty, so I would just order everything. That's not to say I don't take anything from the belt, edamame for example. My favorite dish by far is the Soft-Shell Crab Roll, but it will set you back almost $5. The only problem I have with Genki, is that they have raised their prices recently, and I'm not sure the value is there considering the quality of the sushi. read more

Went in for Lunch today (10/22/15) with my girlfriend around 1:00pm and let's just say it was so unsatisfying that I decided it was finally time to join Yelp. This was probably our 4th time visiting this location since they completed their renovations but it was our first time coming around lunch time (previously we visited for dinner). It was pretty slow and there was no wait when we arrived. Servers were on it and provided us with water shortly after we were sat but that's about the only thing that was positive about our experience. We ordered our food on the tablets as soon as we sat down. Between my girlfriend and I we ordered a total of 6 plates. It took about 30 minutes to receive 5 of those plates and we ended up leaving before we actually received our final plate (spicy ahi bowl). My girlfriend ordered baked mussels, seared garlic ahi, and miso soup. The miso soup was the only order that was served warm. If she wanted the other two plates cold she would have just grabbed it off the belt (which was probably what they did). My kalbi was warm but my seared spicy garlic ahi was also cold. And my spicy poke bowl, well it never came. The wait time wasn't the only problem here. We were located about 4-5 seats away from the door that leads to the kitchen and we could clearly hear singing (which I normally don't mind if food is actually coming out) and inappropriate comments. If I wanted to hear "Deez nuts" over and over again I would pull it up on my phone. Seriously. We probably won't be coming back to this location for a while and I seriously can't wait till Kozo Sushi reopens. You would think after spending all that money to renovate and add the "bullet train" that they would be able to provide better service, sadly that isn't true. If you are really craving Genki, it may be a safe bet to drive into town. read more

On November 17, 2018, at about 7:00pm my family ate dinner at this location in Kaneohe, and they continue decline on food quality and customer service. We have been coming to this location since it opened. My wife and I got really sick by eating the scallops, and no we did not sue. We really loved this place and got to know the people that worked there. We don't sue friends. When they reopened, we saw many new faces and less of our friends. This was the start of the decline of service and quality. Very sad. Back to November 17, 2018, when we were seated I did not ask for the small wasabi dish. I had to use the call button to get the server's attention, and asked for it. My mistake I asked "can I get the small dish please?" I though she would bring 3 plate for my family, and I was shocked when she only brought one. When I asked for 2 more she was visibly upset. We waited for a couple of minutes for the water and tea, but it never came. After about 10 minutes, I used the call button and request 3 waters and 2 hot teas. Funny, they only bright 2 waters and 2 hot teas. The table was sticky and appeared to be dirty. We carry hand wipes so we cleaned our table. Don't look under the table the floor is dirty too. This does not have a restroom within the restaurant. You don't want to use the dirty, smelly, broken restroom they share with the mall. This restaurant only makes the sushi that you order, and normally is delivered quickly. Today, the order came quickly but the nori was very soggy, like it was sitting out a while. The salad was brown, and the rest of the sushi we ordered was in similar condition. The only good food was the fried items we ordered. I don't know what happen to the Kaneohe Genki of the past. My advise to everyone, either go to another location; or go to Windward Mall's Ninja Sushi, where the food is good and owner really appreciates your business. read more

For those who don't know what Genki Sushi is, it's the bar with a conveyor belt right in front of you parading sushi and other plates in front of you. You just take whatever you want, and are priced out at the end depending on the number and color of plates you took during your meal. The service is good. Staff is always on hand to fill up my water or tea, or ask if I want to order anything not on the conveyor belt. Genki sushi doesn't set that bar all that high to begin with, but it's usually better than the stuff I get at the grocery store. The Garlic chicken is pretty good, so is the spicy tuna. read more

You want people to come in, but your own employees can't follow social distancing guidelines. I was standing at the counter, putting in my take out orders, and some girl stands RIGHT in back of me. Next thing you know, your employee starts hugging her hello and stands RIGHT NEXT TO ME and the two of them are no more than 3 inches away from me. What for are all the "STAND HERE" tapes for when your own staff can't follow them?! I patiently waited for there to be room for me to enter, but for what?! My boyfriend and I have been going to this Genki for a while now, sometimes 3-4 days in a row, because it's never too busy when we go, the food is always fast, and it's cheap. And I know by going to a cheaper sushi spot like Genki I shouldn't expect a fine-dining type service, but LAWDDDD.. It's been getting to the point where they're not even trying! The last 4 times we've gone, the girl who seated us forgot to give us those little shoyu dishes and there was no wasabi to be found anywhere. No big deal, I'm not one to complain, we just splashed shoyu on the big plates and spilled it everywhere but no big deal. The last 2 of these 4 times, the conveyor belt was also turned off (still not a big deal, I don't mind ordering off the iPad screens, but my boyfriend likes seeing the plates in front of him and choosing from there). One time, they also said they were sold out of rice as a side dish, but there was still rice in our sushi that we ordered.. like okaaaay? There was also a time that we ordered a spicy ahi gunkan and the fish was so rotten we could barely stomach it. But I'm still not gonna complain! So the very last time we went, no shoyu plates, no conveyor belt, and they sat us against the window where NO ONE else was sitting (I imagine this is why they forgot about us and never came to ask for water). As soon as I sat down, at 4:40pm, I ordered my usual tamago, 2 piece california roll, and crunchy ebi roll to start, because I was STARVING. My boyfriend put in his order afterwards and time goes by and no food. That's fine, still not gonna say anything. I eventually got my tamago but that's it. Then my boyfriend looks on the iPad again and orders a string bean tempura, which comes out literally 30 seconds later. I checked the time because I was thinking WTF where's MY food??? It was 5:08pm. 28 minutes went by and I am over here with a mere tamago in my stomach, which was just a little tickle for me. We were also sitting at the counter near the kitchen so we could see AND HEAR into the kitchen....... and homeboy was just back there chillin and listening to Migos!! So now I'm pissed. Starving. Waiting. Listening to the music in Genki in addition to shitty rap blasting from the kitchen. We finally get our food, I'm a little happier after I eat, but my boyfriend ordered a deep fried spicy roll which comes with ahi in the center, and when it came out it was literally half the size that it was the last time we came in and ordered it. And we look a little closer..... NO AHI. BRUUUUH AT THIS POINT I'M DONE. I should have taken a picture, it was just plain embarrassing. A silver plate with literally just deep fried rice. We both work in the restaurant industry so even though the workers don't do much, we always tip. This time I was upset with him that he even left a $3 tip. Like FURIOUS. First time here. Bullet train and touch screen is cool. Our waiter - Derrick was awesome. He checked up on us - refilled our drinks and was the only one walking around and cleaning. The food was subpar. No salt to put on the edamame, no dishes for your wasabi-soy sauce, chicken bowl was cold chicken on hot rice. The cold tofu wasn't properly drained so it was still sweating on the plate. Also - with the veggie tempura the mushroom stems are a joke. Look we get that u have stuffed mushrooms and want to recycle the stems into the veggie tempura - but 2 stems, 1 small green bean, 1 small slice of eggplant and a half a slice of zucchini with 2 kabocha - which are huge. I'd like to have tempura green beans as an option since they stuff into sushi rolls - but no. The sushi here is smothered in mayo and sauce and the inari (cone sushi) is just rice vinegar - no sesame seeds or shredded carrots. There is no need to come back. The novelty of the bullet train isn't worth it. I can get better sushi at zippys in pearl city. Also - the nori is soggy. It's rubbery and unappetizing. read more

If I could, I would eat here once a week. Genki Sushi Kaneohe is my favorite in the chain eatery across the island. I can always rely on the food quality being perfect for a quick lunch. They don't always have the rotary sushi on, but I'd prefer to order off the tablets anyway. If you are a sushi connoisseur, then this is not the place for you. Whenever I have out of town guests I bring them here at least once during their visit, and this is one of the first eateries my daughter has to visit when home from college. This place has REALLY gone downhill in the passed few years. The same sad looking plates go round and round for hours. We pulled a plate of stuffed mushrooms off the rotating thingamagigy and my husband tried one, I tried the other, were cold. When I told the waitress, she said "you already ate 2 of the three mushrooms", and she has to charge me for it, so I asked her if I should have been rude and disgusting enough to spit it out. Since being my first visit, this place was just OK. I have had better here on Oahu and in the SF Bay Area. Seems like a fast food version of sushi, a step above prepackaged sushi from Safeway or 7-11. Service was a bit slow, but finally got around to us. We only had to order Vege Croquette, Crispy Chicken, and Spicy Tuna Bowl. Took a bit long for these small items. I did like there poke roll, tuna fish and spicy tuna roll. The screaming kids was not a plus, but I guess it could not be helped. Prices were ok, seemed appropriate for what we had. Another weird thing you can't beer or wine, maybe why the prices are so cheap, don't have to pay for a liquor licenses. But the waitress told me that I could bring my own in if I liked. Recently, This Genki Sushi used to be a favorite when they first opened. Food was decent and kids liked it a year ago. However, it's been on a steady decline since. I Waited 40 mins for a California Roll n hot dog nigiri. Ordered food to go and holy hell was it poorly packed. Customer Service was okay however food quality is not worth the cost. Better sushi is served at a gas station. Their Sushi falls apart when you pick it up and half the time I received someone else's orders. If you don't like your money and want subpar sushi made by 16 year old kids, then Genki Sushi is a great place to go. read more

I can only give my opinion based on the take out experience I recently had... it's a nice location conveniently located near my work place. The prices are pretty good depending on what you order. It's very nice and not too cramped inside. They have the new system that brings your order from what you enter on the ipad, directly to your table. I walked in to look at the menu and place my order. Decided on the stuffed mushrooms (my #1 fave) and garlic chicken. Both items were very yummy and filling, costed me about $8. I'll definitely be returning soon especially since it was quite quick to get my order. Lots of parking for the whole shopping center btw. read more

Since two years ago, service has generally gone down at this restaurant. The waiters and waitresses are always great here, at least around lunch time. The most recent time I went I loved our waitress. She was patient with our orders, friendly, and kept up on the tea and water. What keeps me and my bf coming back here is their spicy tuna bomb (spicy tuna and sweet sauce wrapped in fried tofu pouches). I like trying their creative items, like the garlic salmon, which tastes to me like hamburger in a good way. The people who bother me now are the sushi-makers. They act like they're in the kitchen when really they're right in front of me behind the bar. One guy was clattering stuff around and swearing, and then gave me a really sad looking tamago :( My two rolls fell apart :( Was sad for such happy sushi. So that was my worst experience out of the many times I've gone. The sushi-makers also give you any sushi you order, but they never smile. Well it looks like it's Sushi Time!!! I grew up in Kaneohe and just started going to Genki Sushi now for about 5 or 6 months. I also tried the Kapahulu Genki Sushi a few times but we liked the Kaneohe one better. I'm glad I didn't read the reviews or I might not had went but come on people, this is a conveyor belt type Sushi place and not one with the sushi chef is right in front of you making it really fresh. I really like this Sushi thing going on over here in Kaneohe. I take my mom since she is Japanese, born and raised in Chiba Japan. Yes the conveyor belt is new to her also but she loves it and we always sit at the counter side and she's 83 years old but she loves watching the Sushi go around and around. I just grind out and my son, well he's not a Sushi eater. First of all we experience great service about 95% of the time. We all find their Sushi very good and if you get something cold, well it was on the belt so order it off of the menu so you don't have to grumble? Gee give them a break because we go there a lot and there is only about 2 workers that I see that could do their jobs better but overall, they work very hard. I alone whack down at least 10 plates and sometimes more, yea I know I eat alot. My mom will have 4 and on a good day, 5 plates. The spicy tuna is great and the seared spicy ahi is also. The udon is good when it's cold. I'm not an expert on Sushi but I know when I eat there, I'm satisfied and my tummy is also thankful. I would give them 5 stars but there is 1 employee that really tries to rush you, I don't liked to be rushed when I'm the customer. Another time my Mom fell on her butt over there because the floor can be slippery on the stools when you're short like her and she will try to slide onto the stool so be careful and my mom was OK and just felt a little embarrassed but she wants to go there over and over and if that makes her happy, then we are going to Genki Sushi, besides I won't have to cook dinner that night also!! Sometimes 3 to 4 times a week or more, lunch and then dinner in one day sometimes. Yes when we come, they get my son his favorite fruit punch drink and a fries without asking, well that tells you how much we go there. Walk in and my son gets what he wants without saying a word. I take my Mom, my son and sometimes my daughter and we just grind out. We do like it there very much and prefer the belt than watching a person in front of us. Like I was saying, you can order it fresh off of the menu but we sit and we don't get bored at all and we talk and have a relaxing time over there. So if you want fresh high grade Sushi, Well go to a regular Sushi Bar, pay up the nose and act like you're high maka maka or if you want some good Sushi and be more relaxed and be more in a family setting, then go to Genki's, that's easy enough to figure out. I've only been to 2 Genki Sushi restaurants so far: Kaneohe and Ala Moana. Kaneohe is far better in terms of service and space. I go to the Ala Moana location when I need a quick bite and the wait is usually short. Don't get me wrong, both places are good, but I prefer the Kaneohe location because it's more lax. The service is usually very good here. I recently went just the other day and I forgot to leave tip! so I will tip them better the next time I go lol But they're not sticklers for tip and they don't pressure you. Service was nice, all the workers were friendly. We got there 30 minutes after they opened and snagged a table right away. Food was hit and miss though. *Spicy tuna/ahi: Flavor was great, but the fish was stone cold. When I've made this order at several other restaurants in the past, it was always warm. Don't know if it's due to the way Genki Sushi makes it, or the fact it may have been on the belt awhile. (According to other reviews, this happens often even when ordered from the menu). *California Tempura Roll: Ok. I love me a California roll, this was the first one I tried that was tempura style. It was good but the flavors didn't pop. It was kind of a one note. *Dragon Roll: I hate to say this, but this was the worst quality dragon roll I've ever had. Plating and the cuts of avocado and unagi were a bit sloppy. Worst unagi I've ever had, it was a super cheap cut....I guess you can't expect much for the price....but I've had some stellar dynamite rolls for a couple bucks more that comes with more pieces. *Edamame: It is what it is. Completely unseasoned but still tastes good. *Ebi fry: Delicious. I was tempted to keep getting more to gorge on it but I managed to restrain myself. According to my company, the hot dog roll, California roll, imitation crab gunkan, ebi summer roll, tamago nigiri, and tamago udon were good. I'd go again for the fun of it, and some of the dishes. If you have kids, I recommend you have them bring a sweater or jacket. My son got so cold, he was trying to eat his udon with his arms completely tucked into his shirt. read more
