Look, I'm not gonna tell you that I'm any kind of authority on Philly sandwiches, but I've eaten around up there. It's not my hometown, but I like to visit when I can. And I LOVE a good cheesesteak. That being said, our party of four (including one kid) came here on a very rainy Sunday to see an exhibit up at the Franklin Institute. We decided to stop somewhere for a place that has a roast pork sandwich and a cheesesteak, along with at least one kid-friendly item (to appease all party members). This is how we wound up at George's. They have a walk-up window, and only about 7 counter stools inside. But, we were there pretty early (around 11am) and took up four of the seats. It was kind of an experience to see the rain falling outside, see the birds jumping around on the sidewalk eating crumbs of bread, and watching people come up to the window to order. Oh, to capture the urban landscape in words... Anyway. I got the PBR, roast pork sub with broccoli rabe and the sharp cheese (I think it's Romano). Let me tell you... they server it with a fork, and now I know why. Juicy beyond belief! It was insanely good, with just the right amount of droopy broccoli and tons of savory pork, with just a bit of spice and also some noticeable chunks of garlic. The cheese was the perfect complement to the rest of the ingredients. It was so intensely good! Another in our party ordered the cheesesteak, and while this was also a very favorable option, my favorite would still be that roast pork. The kid had a hot dog, and she was also very happy with it. So, for less than $50 for the entire group, we all got a huge hoagie, a bag of chips for the kiddo, and a beverage each. Honestly very reasonable, price-wise these days. Parking is as lucky as you can find on the street, so shop around. We lucked out and got a spot as someone was leaving literally at the front door. The neighborhood itself is worth walking around, too, with some very neat niche shops nearby. We probably would have spent a ton more time had we not bought time tickets to an exhibit. Still, if you're in the area, give them a try. You likely won't be disappointed. We clearly weren't! This was well worth the research to find the joint, and well worth driving through a quaint part of the city to reach it.

I think I can say that George's serves my favorite roast pork sandwich in the city. I won't say "best" or "most authentic" (whatever that means), but it is the one I have enjoyed the most. The meat has a great texture and flavor. It's juicy but not fatty. I got mine with broccoli rabe and sharp provolone. My husband enjoyed his Italian sausage with peppers and onions very much. But he was jealous of my sandwich. Compared to other places with similar sandwiches, the prices were reasonable. They have window service, which I appreciate these days. I can shop outdoors at the market's streetside vendors and grab a great lunch too from a classic Philly sandwich shop. We took our sandwiches to a nearby park and enjoyed them. As their original business cards read, this place has "sandwiches you will like."

We came here because Pats and Genos lines were both crazy ridiculous and I thought a sandwich shop in the Italian market would not only have cheesesteak but an Italian hoagie as well. I was wrong...I got a cheesesteak with the works along with The George. I guess you aren't supposed to say if you want toppings because it definitely put them in a bad mood when I ordered. It actually got ruder during the ordering process. Anywho we got our sandwiches. The cheesesteak was pretty good but The George was so messy. It came out of the bag dripping with sauces. Overall, next time I'll find somewhere else to go get a sandwich but glad I got to try it at least.

Solid cheesesteak, no frills but definitely does the job. Next time I'll have to try the PBR, it seems like that's their calling card! Will be back

We visited Little Italy and stopped at the Visitor Center and asked the lady there where the locals go to eat their Philly Cheesesteaks and she mentioned this place as the place to go to. This is not a sit down restaurant, they have a window where you order your food and then you either take it to go or you find a sidewalk table or bench to have you meal. We chose to go around the corner and just sat at a church stairs and have our lunch. My girlfriend ordered the tripe sandwich and I went with the Philly Cheesesteak. Both sandwiches were unbelievably good. My cheesesteak was so flavorful and cheesy with onions, and my girlfriend essentially said the tripe was similar to the way she makes tripe at home. Bottom line, the next time I go back I will hit this spot again!!

We had a cheesesteak wiz Whit and fried onions and one with provolone. Both were fantastic. The whiz has a little bit of a quick to it which made it just perfect. The meat was perfectly seasoned and the bread fresh. To top it off the service was impeccable. Attentive and friendly, unlike many other sandwich shops around town. Highly recommend and will return.

Our server apologized for a delay in taking our drink orders. She was attentive the rest of our meal. I ordered a Charles deGaulle whiskey cocktail. Lemon, aperol and simple syrup added a refreshing twist. For entrees, my wife ordered the pacherri; a simple pork ragu with tender broccoli rabe, Parmesan, stracciatello and basil. The dish was delicious. I enjoyed my plate of sea-inspired tonnarelli nero. Bay scallops in crab ragu with fennel sofrito. Served with squid ink pasta that imparted a slight brininess. The pasta was cooked pangrattato style-- coated in panko bread crumbs and garlic. The dish had many flavors but they all came back to the theme. Cocktail prices and entree prices were very reasonable. They offer happy hour drinks and specials. Certainly a very good choice if you're in the area.

The short rib over polenta was probably my favorite thing on the table - it fell apart easily and the polenta underneath wasn't as heavy as I expected it to be. We got the salted caramel budino for dessert too, and I was glad it wasn't one of those desserts that's so sweet you can only handle two bites. Would go back honestly. Probably order something different next time just to try more of the menu, but I'm getting that ricotta again no matter what.

Decorated vintage chic Italian restaurant with booth and table seating. We started off with three cocktails that were seasonal options all were good and boozy as expected. The meatballs were served 4 in sauce small to average size meatballs were good, soft and flavorful. The mozzarella was a show pulling it tableside from curds to a full 8oz ball finished with salt , pepper, and flavored olive oil. Dinner we ordered three Italian specialties. Chicken Milanese that was served with shaved Italian cheese and arugula. One vela parm which had the perfect ratio of sauce to cheese. The third meal was a basic bolognese that was served with mafaldine pasta. Entrees were all good. We also added the truffle pasta option for the table which was also prepared tableside with the cheese wheel and shavings of fresh black truffles was a perfect finish. We also had a sharing side of gnocchi with sauce. All in all we had a solid meal. It wasn't the best Italian I even had but it's good. The total was 336 for three with 2 rounds of drinks . This is pretty good for center city fine dining.

Everything was as perfect as it could be why is that because this restaurants been doing it for over 126 years they know a thing or two their customers and had to prepare plate delicious meals. Surprise surprise we actually found parking OK maybe that's because we got there earlier than our reservation in hopes to make another stop that didn't work out so we came early and they greeted us with open arms took us to a beautiful table in front of vintage fireplace hence we were sitting in the perfect spot. Our server, Justin came over to greet us. We got into some conversation before we even touched upon the food. He was exceptional at his run through the menu, his explanations on preparations handling questions. This was definitely not his first, not his second and not his third rodeo he's definitely a professional at what he does. Upon review of the menu we started off with steamed clams and a spicy marinara and actually asked for fra Diavlo hence they gave it an additional hit of spice. It had a nice kick. It was very tasty. My wife was going back-and-forth between their signature lasagna and a little weak weenie with crab Bianco and in the end she went with the baked lasagna oh my goodness the size of that piece on the plate we took half home. She certainly enjoyed her. For me, I went with the veal Catherine, the medallions veal with shrimp, lump crab meat, and fresh tomato and a Bianco sauce the plating presentation I can't describe you'll just have to see my photograph. I've never seen it like this before and it was extremely tasty. Very tender I would certainly get that dish again. And since I am not a pasta eater, I ordered a side vegetable of broccoli Rob. And we ordered a bottle of the Italian Montepuliciano wine, what was the perfect compliment to our dinner? And this was my birthday. My wife was surprising me she had already pre-ordered their homemade tiramisu with ladyfingers, which would wind up taking with us cause we were kind of full and had later that night at one of our favorite coffee houses in Philly and boy that dessert was perfect and I'm glad we waited. Again, everybody was smiles, friendly, and helpful. The place of spotless and you really feel like you're in someone's home.
