I have mixed feelings about the experience I had at Georgia Boy. We received two texts leading up to the reservation date not to be tardy because it may result in missed courses. Well, we get there at 5:20 for a 5:30 reservation. 5:30 rolls around and 6 out of the 8 people are there already. We were told service wouldn't start until everyone was there. WHY DID YOU TELL US TO NOT BE TARDY when in fact you're ok waiting for people? I felt this was disrespectful to the people who actually arrived on time. So note to future diners, don't be the late asshole since the whole group of 8 has to be there for the dinner to start. The food started off a little weak in flavor but improved vastly after the 3rd course. The style of the food is avant garde and playful. The beverage pairings were well matched to the foods and no, they do not give you 15 glasses of wine. The pastries and desserts were excellent and probably my favorites in the tasting menu. read more

This is my 2nd time at Georgia Boy and the just lost 2 stars. I arrived 12 minutes before my reservation and was told that I had to come back at 5 til because they cannot accommodate standing and do not have a bar area. They should have created a space for that, it was February so it was freezing and waiting outside was not an ideal option. We browsed a store nearby but had to leave bc it was closing. The bar next door had 10+ people smoking outside so even if we waited outside it would not have been comfortable and we would have smelled like an ashtray all night. We came back 5 mins before and still were not accommodated immediately and now other couples were in front us waiting inside...hmm... when you're about about to pay around $400+ for dinner and drinks for two, this is not the service I would expect. The food here is great though, we've done several tasting menus recently and I do prefer this to the option in candler park not to name names. As someone who frequents Michelin star restaurants and loves tasting menus, I love having this restaurant and chef locally in Atlanta. Usually with even the best tasting menu, you can come across one or more dishes that aren't your absolute favorite as tastes are different between people, but this place never disappoints. Not only is the food delicious, but it's fun, whimsical and super creative. The chef goes the distance with putting meaning and memories/experience into each and every dish. Owner/Chef Joey Ward and his team have something really special here! This review is long bc I'm so excited about it, but if you want the short version: go here when you want to splurge on an experience that's so much more than a typical tasting menu! I'm a big fan of chef's tastings and have done a lot of them in Atlanta and several other parts of the world. Georgia Boy has been one of the most impressive culinary experiences I've had to date. Everything - from the taste of the food (obviously), to the creativity, presentation, service, beverage pairings, and overall experience were created thoughtfully and executed flawlessly. There are some surprises which are fun to experience, so I'm not going to spoil them here. Georgia Boy is a restaurant hidden inside Joey Ward's other restaurant, Southern Belle, which is next to the Plaza Theater off Ponce. There are 4 seatings (6, 7, 8 and 9pm) of 8 people and you're seated together dinner-party style, lasting around 2.5hrs. Because of this set up, it's important to be on time. The experience starts for everyone together and you could miss a portion of it if you're late. I didn't realize this and my friend and I were a little late due to Friday rush hour traffic, but thankfully it was before the food started and they were nice about it. But I def won't do that again. They also said the menu changes every 6weeks or so. This is certainly not a cheap meal- but no chef's tasting is (plus we did the beverage pairing which I HIGHLY recommend). But for $125pp (non-refundable when booking, FYI) I thought it was reasonable and we definitely got our money's worth. The beverage pairing was an additional $75 (this ranges based on the pairings selected for each night) and I think we had at least 5 pairings. All of which were phenomenal! Shout out to GM/Sommelier Cate Hatch for an epic pairing menu and for being one of the most passionate and knowledgeable Sommelier's I've met. Our main server (I think his name is Ben?) was also great and the whole team made everything go smoothly. Then, of course, there's the FOOD. Usually when I do tasting menus there are some stand out courses and others that are good but not spectacular. At Georgia Boy every single dish was amazing and beautifully plated. There was a dish with foie gras and another one that had beets (Im not a big foie gras fan even though it's literally in every tasting I seem to do, and I hate beets). And both were incredible! I don't know what they did - but I don't care- they somehow made two of my least favorite things truly delicious. Even my friend couldn't believe I liked them so much. Plus the foie gras was inside some edible snow globe which was just magical. Other standouts include a "Fish-fil-a" sturgeon dish with chicken skin, and other accompaniments made with a nod to chick-fil-a flavors. This three-way beef dish with a selection of sauces (I'm a sauce junkie btw) and this brioche steamed bun with honey and brown butter that I could've eaten a million of. And the second course (a trip down Buford Hwy) with these little bites that packed some incredible flavor. One of which was an Indian chicken poori that my friend (who is Indian) & I were very impressed by. Overall, this is a perfect combination of culinary talents (including Chef de Cuisine Spencer Gomez, and Pastry Chef Billy Cole) with a shared love of whimsy and Willy Wonka that make this an unforgettable experience. read more

Nothing short of PHENOMENAL. This is one of the easiest 5 star reviews I've ever had to give, and I'd give it more if I could. Everything about this place, from the service, to the food, to the overall experience is incredible -- and in line with some of the WORLD's (not just Georgia's) best restaurants. Georgia Boy is very much a restaurant with Michelin star quality, and that's something I've never said that about any other restaurant in Atlanta. Chef, Joey Ward, brings out and explains most of the dishes himself, and has created an experience that appeals to all of your senses -- from nostalgia to aromas to social interaction. You, and the 7 other guests (usually 4 groups of 2) will start in a back room behind a curtain, and then ultimately end up in the Georgia Boy official restaurant where the remaining dishes are prepared in front of you. Every single course is incredibly creative and delicious, with extremely thoughtful wine pairings by the restaurant's sommelier, Cate. At the end of the dinner, when asking the other guests their favorite dish, literally every single person at the table had something different to say -- something I'm not sure I've ever seen a chef tasting menu accomplish. If you want to go on a wild and exceptional culinary ride, don't sleep on the Georgia Boy experience! This is a multi-course tasting menu that is so much fun from start to finish! You start off in their little library for the first few courses, then proceed through the "secret door" into their kitchen area for the remainder of your courses. The food, you ask? It is delicious, full of love, whimsical, and so creative. When you really take time to think about it, it's mind blowing how much prep time goes into this food. So many intricate details, such as leaves made from sweet potatoes. The visual appeal of the courses is stunning, and more importantly translates into tasting amazing! Amazing experience for my birthday! It is a little pricey for sure but such an amazing experience. The presentation for every dish was incredible. So much care and attention to every detail and loved all of explanations for the dishes and drinks served. I love going all out but next time would probably split the beverage pairing with my dining partner versus us each getting one ourselves next time. The negative review about leaving hungry cracks me up. Is each plate pretty small, yes they are. But there were 15 courses! I left very full. I guess some people expect every restaurant to give you a huge plate of noddles or something. Made a reservation on Resy, very easy. In fact, the time we wanted was full. I used the waiting list and got in. It is communal seating, so if your party is less than 8, you will be sitting with others. Also, the reason for requiring vaccination. We started in a curtained area for a couple of beginning appetizers and complementary sparkling wine. Eventually we moved through the hidden door to the dining room. The food, presentation, experience--everything was amazing. We did not do the drink pairing; however, others at our table did. It was pretty adventurous: sake, a belgian sour beer, a blush wine, I cannot remember them all. They have a good wine list, which is the route we chose. You'll enter through Southern Belle and, heck, you could stop right there for its own culinary and gastro experience. But if you scored a seat into Georgia Boy you'll start with an Amuse-bouche that rivals the world's top 50 restaurants. Like I said, the food is outstanding full of creativity, integrity and talent. But for me it gets even more interesting when the top chefs in the southeast (Joey Ward, Spencer Gomez) allow you into their secret food lair where you will be ten feet from these artists and you'll interact on an intimate level that isn't available at most restaurants. I would love to give a great review, as some of our plates tasted amazing. I can't, however, because we left feeling ripped off. In my wife's words: "the portions felt like 'slap in the face' insulting." We had the 4 course chefs menu, and were sold a $19.00 up charge to a $107.00 meal to swap our lamb for dry aged steak. When the main course came out we were dumbstruck by the fact that our $19 "up charge" - which was over and above the $47 that they charge for the lamb on its own - only amounted to two slivers of steak. Charging what amounts to $66.00 for ~2 ounces of steak can't be made up for with a few bites of really amazing tasting sides that came with it. Especially since the steak was essentially room temperature when they served it. I wanted to love this place, but when you get a $330 bill (without even having wine) as a party of two, you shouldn't leave with your wife telling you that she is looking forward to some leftover pizza at the house. read more

It was woefully underwhelming. The diners with whom we shared the nook and subsequently the table were the best feature of the experience. They giggled along with us at many of the courses. We were waiting on someone to come out and confirm we were being punked. The wine pairing was horrendous. The servers tell disjointed stories about the wine that do not in any way share a theme or connect to the food being served. The service was mediocre overall. Our primary server disregarded previously and repeatedly communicated dietary restrictions and was rather rude after serving an item in violation of religious adherence and never apologized for the egregious error. Instead the server chose to awkwardly avoid us for the remainder of the very long dinner (nearly four hours in duration after starting 20 minutes late). Most of the food was served cold to lukewarm; the worst of which was a "tomato and mayonnaise" crabby patty (in size and I also imagine taste) that lingered on the pallet for 20 minutes after suffering the initial bite. That horrendous dish was served with a real water hose and gulf coast salt water ice chips (described differently - tasting like salt water nonetheless). It had to have been a joke of some kind. As one of the courses, we were served mixed butter and sugar (the genesis of cake batter) dolloped on a mixer beater. The other guests at our table were as amused as we were by the audacity. The second to worst dish award goes to the beet tartare - for the price, I would have liked to have been able to finish it, but it was so disgusting and the taste so putrid, my gag reflex wouldn't allow it. You'd think we were vegetarian, but we are not. Why not serve tuna tartare to the pescatarians? The omnivores were served beef. It was a cheap slight which was the true theme of the evening. Not everything was a miss--the collards were delicious and would have been spectacular if they were hot and not served on an elementary school cafeteria tray with a hodgepodge of other disconnected foods. The best dish was the sorbet - the whole teaspoon full that all guests raved about. It was served atop flowers that our man server confirmed were edible, though they wouldn't recommend eating because they also confirmed these flowers were reused across several meals. There was no stove top or true oven use that we saw in the kitchen, just a convection oven with 4 - 6 chefs standing around waiting 10 -20 minutes between courses to assemble as part of the middle school play theatrics. Don't suffer the same indignation we suffered. Go to another restaurant that serves solidly good food and doesn't rely upon modern mythology and ostentatious flair to gain diners. read more

We were served 15 courses. Four of them during a little cocktail time, and the rest inside the actual kitchen. The entire experience, the smells, the visuals, the taste. 10/10. I already had high expectations given what I had previously read online, but to say that Georgia Boy exceeded those expectations would be an understatement. Super cool secret location within the restaurant Southern Belle. You enter through a door hidden in a bookcase. This is truly a great dining experience! Dinner is multiple course tastings (up to 16 tastings!) with each course completely different and so innovative!! These chefs know what they are doing! An absolute scam. All involved should be ashamed of themselves for offering such mediocre offerings for an extravagant price. None of the courses were anything more than okay, nothing was balanced, some were overly salty or heavily one-note. And for a bill of over $600 for two people, it felt like robbery. After going to Gunshow and realizing this chef started off at that restaurant, I was super excited for the experience. I took my sister there for her birthday. My other friend couldn't come, but I told her I would bring her back there the next weekend. Unfortunately, I will never return. The restaurant's website never said it wouldn't be behind the bookshelf which was a bummer but I understood due to their covid precautions. Then I asked the waitress what was a good cocktail, she simply shrugged and said everybody likes different things. Then she waited for me to order as if I was getting in the way of her night. So I did my best to leave her alone the rest of the evening. However, the other servers were upbeat. The food was subpar at best. Super shocked! I've ate at Michelin Star restaurants all over the world Thailand to Paris, etc. I'm pretty open to it all. However, the five-course for that night was UNDERWELMING. I'm thinking perhaps the chef was depressed. I don't know. I paid $350 for a meh moment. I would think due to the crisis and restaurants needing the support that it would have been a better experience. That being said, the short rib was the best course. The dessert was good too. The other three dishes were meh. I booked another evening at Gunshow for my friend and I to eat there instead. And hopefully, I will be able to have a redo for my sister's birthday. read more

I mean....... my god Georgia Boy is easily my favorite restaurant in Atlanta and one of the best I've ever had. If the Michelin guide visited Atlanta (come already!!!), this would easily be a 3-star selection. The food was obviously phenomenal, and the presentation flawless. The menu I had (plant-based) was incredibly inventive and several of the dishes incorporated elements I have never seen before in a restaurant. As I understand, the meat-based tasting menu was also out of this world. No spoilers, but the restaurant story experience was also next level. Chefs Joey and Spencer have done a great job adding to the theatrical effects of the restaurant (s/o Roald Dahl) and keeping everything thematically consistent and unique. Another huge win for the Gunshow alum crew, and a star for the Atlanta area as a whole. Can't wait to be back! read more

I've been excited about Georgia Boy since before it opened, and the dining experience definitely did not disappoint! The space is super chic (and hidden), and it feels intimate and special since there are only seats for 16 people at most. I'm vegetarian, so I chose the plant-based tasting menu, while all my dining companions had the Chef's tasting menu (which includes meat dishes). The creativity that the Georgia Boy team has is incredible, and every dish was beautiful as well. I was so thrilled the whole time with the dishes, the presentation, the atmosphere- I left there in such a good mood! I literally cannot wait to go back. read more

My husband and I dined at Georgia Boy last night for our first meal out since the pandemic started and it could not have been a better experience. This was our favorite spot in town pre-pandemic and it doesn't appear to have lost a beat. Seating has been relocated outside and is comfortably socially distanced. The staff all wear masks and limit their table visits yet the service is still engaging and friendly. We each had the 7-course tasting menu with optional wine pairings and the food, presentation, and pairings were, in short, spectacular. One of the things I have loved about Georgia Boy and its sister restaurant, Southern Belle, since they opened is the meticulous attention to detail on all of the things, not just one or two of the things, that go into creating an amazing dining experience for guests and that thoughtful approach is on display now more than ever. read more

WOW!!! Came to Georgia Boy for the tasting menu for my birthday, and it was hands-down the most creative meal experience I've ever had (which is important to me, as I am an artist myself). The concept is so well-branded and thought through, and every course is not only delicious, but beautiful, as well.
