Georgia Diner is self-proclaimed best-of-Queens-diner in Elmhurst, Queens. I found the service excellent, the dishes are enormous and the food is decent. My family and I went for dinner on MDW. We ordered corn beef hash, baked chicken, salmon salad, nova scotia lox with cream cheese and a omelet. We were so hungry when we arrived. It was perfect that the waiter gave us a bread basket with warmed bread. The kids devoured the bread. One dipped the breadsticks into the individually wrapped butters. There was also a stand on the table with 3 tins of pickled/cooked diner snacks (sliced beets, chickpea and green bean salad, and coleslaw). My hubby and I liked the sour crunchy coleslaw. I loved my smoked Nova Scotia lox with cream cheese. The bagels were toasted but soggy but the Nova Scotia lox was beautiful. I got 4 long 3" x 8-10" of pink savory firm lox ($15.5). So good. K's dish of salmon salad had plenty of sliced beefsteak tomatoes, coleslaw, potato salad, freshly sliced cucumbers and a pile of canned salmon (that could have been tuna). That was ok. The other family members were satiated with their salty corn beef hash and soft non crispy home fries and hand-sized omelet. The meal was great for what it was: simple filling breakfast-like food. The servers were so friendly and nice. They cleared our plates quickly, gave us napkins and more napkins. When we left, the hostess gave the kids lollipops. So sweet. Really nothing special. Just a diner, was very popular when I was in HS & College because it's open 24/7. I always ended up there because everyone ends up there. That's the main reason. As far as food and service goes, its really a hit or miss. During the drunken weekend nights, any greasy food tastes good. Terrible! My 80 year old mom and i walked in and were seated at our booth. Once we sat down the waiter said they are closing in 45 mins for us to be done by then.. Should of walked out then... Food was meh BUT the kicker for my lack of stars is, my mom took a sip from her water glass and noticed an old TEA BAG in the glass!!!!!!!!!!!!! Piss into the rocks, please... So that's an in-joke for the male patrons of the Georgia diner on 55th Avenue and Queens Blvd (across the street from Queens Place mall). The joke hinges on the observation that for a long stretch of time, the plumbing for the mens' room urinals there were broken, and instead of fixing the issues, they merely had the porters dump ice onto the bowls to provide a source of water (which when combined with odor absorbers worked remarkably well to suppress the stench. They recently fixed the problem, but the flush was so weak that they might as well not bother at all. As a result, the restroom smells quite a bit. So this observation of how repairs or renovations can kill a relatively good thing can be prescient, as this Georgia diner location will close down in late March 2018. The owners sold the place to a local condo developer whom already built a 12 story cardboard palace in the former parking area, and will tear down the diner to build more. They will move to the former Nevada diner location, staffing and all, while pledging no changes to the service, quality and value. Who are they trying to kid? The entire allure of going there is because it's a 24 hour diner close to the subway and the mall, and it's not just another soul-less bubble tea/hotpot joint appealing to Chinese millennials. I for one will not detour nearly a quarter mile just for the sake of some pancakes or maybe a patty melt. That being said, how were their pancakes at the old location? Like what you'll expect out of a 40 year old diner, which is, fresh and competent. Back when I lived in Elmhurst I would frequent the place twice to four times a month, pretty much always for an evening meal (which can often be my first meal of the day, thanks overnight shifts). The pastas were a rip-off (just like in any joint), as were their seafood. When I do hit the place it was typically for diner fare at one of the booths on the right side - patty melts with fries, pot roast with potatoes and peas, and their Roumanian steak tips with mushrooms, onions and buttered rice (their $14.99 dinner special for the longest stretch of time). Sometimes they have specials on the menu, which runs from surprisingly "meh" like their boulliabaise (now to think of it, the Marseillaise aren't crazy about it these days), to surprisingly good, like their pernil. If you order a full dinner you'll get a basket of bread (breadsticks and crackers on the bottom, a few slices of warmed bread, a couple of Parker rolls and a feta roll or 2 dumped on top, along with butter packets previously stored in an iced water bath so they are not frozen solid). The waitstaff will usually bring out a rack with a bowl each of tri-beans salad, coleslaw and beet salad. After 5 minutes the soup or salad (or back when you ordered the steak tips special... both) will be presented. After 15 minutes the entrees will show up. During that time, you eat, flirt with your date, fire up a tune on the booth-side jukebox, and do some people watching outside the windows. After the meal (maybe dessert?) you settle the bill, pay up at the front and maybe flirt with the cute Russian girl manning the register up front. Of course, due to various factors, I stopped showing up regularly after 2015, and didn't go back until one last swan-song visit in 2018, a few weeks before the scheduled closure and demolition . I went in with the missus and ordered the Cuban panini along with the steak tips. Has it changed? Yes. The Russian girl is gone. The steak tips are $19.99 and you only got a choice of soup or salad. The bread bowl has gotten smaller, the butter packets are frozen, the beet salad tastes watered down (canned beets?) and the tri-bean salad only contain chickpeas. The jukeboxes are worn out and the entire place is coasting towards its inevitable doom. But yet, paradoxically, the steak tips seems to taste better - juicier and more full bodied, and my wife's panini seems to be pretty good as well. Maybe it's my internal lamentations of yet another seemingly eternal institution fading into the ether with the passage of time, or perhaps it's Georgia giving me my own private send-off. I've been coming to Georgia's for years now. They were originally on 55th avenue on the other side of Queens Blvd. Now they're located where the Nevada diner was. I don't exactly know why they moved but I'm guessing they were bought out. Anyway, great food every time!!!! I usually go for their breakfast menu, though. I've tried their dinner and lunch specials, but it's really nothing special. The service is hit or miss. For the most part, it's usually good service. Weekends you will definitely have to wait for a table but they have a good system and the line moves rather quickly. read more

DONT EAT HERE: Not only was the food mid at best, but the waiter messed up the entire order. I came here with my bf on New Year for a nice late brunch. When we sat down, it's took at least 15 minutes to flag down a waiter and I wish it wasn't the one I flagged down. I ordered a waffle with blueberry persevere on the side and 2 egged over medium, bacon and whole wheat bread and earl grey tea. My boyfriend ordered scrambled eggs with bacon and a sesame seed bagel. The waiter didn't listen to a word we said because not one thing that we ordered was correct. Instead of earl grey tea, I received Lipton tea. Instead of whole wheat bread, I received white bread, and my waffle was filled completely with the preserve when I asked for it on the side. I came here to have a quick lunch with my mom and aunt--and was NOT good. First let me say our waitress was great. Friendly, efficient and accommodating. My compliant is about the quality of the food and the cleanliness of the establishment. This was a downright disgusting experience. We each ordered from the lunch menu. I ordered the matzo ball soup which was fine. My mom got the New England clam chowder which she said tasted "off" so she didn't finish it. My aunt French onion soup was overly salty and covered (as it mask the taste) in poor quality cheese. She also didn't finish it. My aunt and I ordered the chicken wrap which came with fries. I've been coming here since my childhood, my family and I generally came on Sunday mornings probably once a month (warning: they get busy, so the earlier - the better). This diner is a gem, they are accommodating and very hospitable. Reminds me of the diners you see in movies. I came here 3/18/22 to have a meeting with my client because it was recommended by someone else to have a meeting. When I came in the place was relatively empty with only a few patrons. I came in at 4:30pm and we left around 645pm. My clients ordered a yogurt and fruit platter with coffee. At the end of my visit when my clients left, the manager had the nerve to say for me to never come back because I "turned my table into my office." His words exactly. This gentleman was a little on the heavy side with an accent, and eye glasses. So guess what I just won't come back at all, not for a meeting, not for a cup of coffee, they will not see a dime from me. The restaurant didn't have many people there and many empty tables so I'm not exactly sure why he's so worried about us staying there a little extra to complete our meeting. It pains me to give 2 stars but it's worthy. My family and I went here on Wednesday to have lunch and we were given a booth table for our party of 5. We were comfortable and we're given our waters quickly. The waiter took about 5 min to take our order, which is perfectly fine. It took our food over 25 minutes to come out! We saw people being seated, order their food, and receive their food while we were still waiting. I get up to ask the manager what is going on with our food? We only ordered BLT, salad and breakfast orders. He told me to have a seat and he would look into it. Low and behold 2 minutes later our food comes out. Waiting over 25 minutes we finished all of our teas and sodas and asked, are refills free? He said no. I couldn't believe no refills although we had nothing else to do but drink our drinks and wait because we were hungry. As a child we went here with my grandparents. Thy both have since passed away and ending up in the area, I knew this is where I had to bring my son. Not much has changed aesthetically, but you still find a welcome smile and a quick seating: Even in the parking area, the attendant greets you and sends you off with a wave, a hello and a smile Food was still good and portions were plentiful. Their food items are a hit or miss. I've tried multiple things here and it really depends on who is cooking. Their chicken Parm sandwich is bad (~$14). No flavor and just feels like too much dough. Their chicken quesadillas are on the skimpy side but for a diner thats open 24/7, their food is consistently high. I absolutely love their calamari there though. Be sure to check your receipt for the right price though. they have it twice in their menu. It should only be priced at $11.95. Its a good portion for that price. It reminds me of the calamari at Pio Pio but better!!Def recommend it! Their burgers are filling as well. I recently tried their pizza burger which is mozzarella cheese and the marinara sauce from the calamari. I like it how they cook it even though it's probably from a frozen patty. It tastes better than youd expect though. For me, the burger is filling enough. The fries are great. They are thick cute fries and i like them crispy so i would suggest telling them to make them crispy or else, they come out limp. Dont bother with their deserts. It is also on the pricey and dont look fresh. The waiters are attentive and are very accommodating. Just be wary about the charges on your receipt. Sometimes, they sneakily charge a dollar or two more than original for their dishes. I recommend it as a place if you are craving some really late night food like calamari or a burger. This is the best diner in the area that is open 24/7, and is a great choice no matter what time of day you are eating. A big reason why I love this place is that they serve GREAT portions. Every time I order something, it is always exactly the portion I wanted, or more. For those of you that usually like small portions, imagine always being able to have a take home meal. If you are like me and eat a lot, imagine always feeling satisfied. One of my favorite dishes on the menu is the fried calamari. This is a dish I order regularly at other restaurants anytime I see it on or off the menu. The extra great thing about the calamari here is that is is HUGE and cooked well (not rubbery like I get elsewhere). When I say huge, I mean that you can get whole pieces that are 2 to 3 times the size you normally find elsewhere. I don't know where they get these suckers! I have neen coming here since I was a kid. I would give this a 3.5 stars and let me explain why. The restrooms are a mess and impossible to use, imagine a person with disabilities. Depending at what time or day you go, thats the quality of food and service you will receive. The quality of the food has declined, honestly...I am not exaggerating. Never go on a holiday, you dont know whats worst tbe wait, the food !! Its best to go midweek and have the breakfast, lunch specials or an early bird special. I know times are hard for restaurants, but I got nachos and they were AWFUL! I believe they cost $10.95. They were just store bought round tortilla chips with artificial cheese on top. The sour cream, tomatoes and guacamole came on the side. The guacamole had a gluey consistency. I also asked to add chicken. I believe I was charged $6 for the add-on of chicken. And no beans. After not having been there in a few years, yesterday my daughters and I decided to go...OHHH MYYYY WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT! Like another person mentioned on their review "IT HAS LOST ALL ITS GLORY"!! I ordered a Gyro plater (the gyro meat was over cooked to the point it was inedible...looked and tasted like shoe leather soles).
