The Cobb salad is exceptional. Come very hungry though. We split the Cobb salad and a bowl of clam chowder. The chowder was full of clams that weren't too small or too big and small potatoes. Absolutely no sand which is always a bonus! Full of cream and had a very nice consistency. The salad was piled high with fresh crisp lettuce, bacon that was crispy and soft, and a ripe and flavorful avocado. My son had half a tuna sandwich which he said was amazing and was more than enough for him. The atmosphere is a deli, loud. Line was consistently long and to the door. Perhaps the best sandwiches I've ever had. We had 2 full size supremos and a half some like it hot. The sandwiches were ginormous. Two full would have been more than enough for 4 hungry people. The sandwiches come with chips too. The supremo had tons of turkey, ham and roast beef. The special sweet and spicy mustard and cheddar cheese brought all the flavors together. The bun was also perfect, not soggy, and notMy son enjoyed the sandwich so much saying he wish he could fly from OC to Seattle and have this sandwich every week. My daughter had the some like it hot. This place is a factory for lunch, with many tried-and-true sandwich recipes. Line up early, by 11:30 am, else plan to wait in line. You can call in an order for pick-up, which takes the pressure off. Lots of staff, lots of regulars, reasonable prices for big-portion sandwiches. Try the French dip--a bit salty, but worth the price. The tuna-salad is lighter and fresh. The clam chowder is a great low-budget lunch item. We read such great reviews but we were actually pretty disappointed with this place. Cute and chill atmosphere, but the tuna melt was not that great, the soup was very blah (I didn't even want to finish it). Not even close to the best clam chowder in Anacortes. I prefer my clam chowder creamy. This was more brothy. The fidalgo cookie was really hard and dry as were the berry scones. The panda bear claw dessert thing was delicious but hard as a rock and gave us tummy aches (no we did not eat the whole thing at once). We were so disappointed we have no desire to go back. We were very hopeful and everything looked and sounded promising and on taste alone this place did not deliver or satisfy. :( read more

Beyond amazing sandwiches! We are total foodies and noticed straight away they use premium quality fresh ingredients along with very generous portion sizes. It's a cozy little corner restaurant gem located in the heart of downtown Anacortes. A local hotspot that came highly recommended from someone who lives in town. Gere a dehli is a popular lunch place for locals because of the consistent good quality and variety of food at a decent price. There's lots of seating indoor and outdoor. Some of my favorites are the Caesar salad (the dressing is creamy but not heavy and the bread roll is super good) Old Chicago (pastrami with light but creamy coleslaw), the Gobbler (thanksgiving turned into a sandwich) , turkey club, and the CLAM CHOWDER! I've tried others and Gere a dehli's is the best in Anacortes. A good dessert is the polar bear which is a dark chocolate cake with cold buttercream frosting covered with more dark chocolate. Update: the quiche Lorraine & salad or the chicken sesame salad are my new go-to lunch orders. So good. read more

My family and I have been customers of Gere-a-deli for 30+ years and it's always been a favorite lunch spot of ours. It's where my grandparents would take us when we were just little kiddos and it where I choose to dine at now that I'm an adult. It's looked the same for as long as I can remember and it never disappoints. That is until we visited today. Sometime in the last several months they've done a remodel of their kitchen and dining room. They've removed their back dining area in lou of more kitchen space (sad, but understandable). They haven't however put much thought into the spacing of the tables in the dining room. There is really NO room to navigate between tables and it's DEFINITELY not ADA compliant. Management needs to address this ASAP. It's hard to enjoy your lunch when you have people literally brushing past you to get to their table. Not to mention they'll have a lawsuit on their hands when someone's hot coffee is inevitably spilt on someone's lap. read more

My husband and I planned a weekend long post-wedding celebration with all of our friends/family from out of town on Guemes Island. Johanna was our main POC from Gere-a-Deli and I can't say enough incredible things about her! We asked Gere-a-Deli to cater every breakfast, brunch, and unconventional dinner from Friday - Sunday. They brought in the most delicious pastries, the best salads, the freshest ingredients, all with a big smile... and that's not even covering half of the best part! I asked them to bring a crab boil on a big boat for a Friday night Deception Pass tour with 80 people. They pulled out all the stops and brought in fresh crab, corn muffins, vegan options, the WORKS... all on newspaper to make it look super authentic. Saturday evening was a beachside dinner of fresh salmon on the grill with every roasted veggie you could find locally. To say they went above and beyond for us is an understatement. Johanna's kind approach, willingness to helping us with all of our out of the box ideas, and her dedication to our event was extremely meaningful to us. The food provided and the hoops she went through to make this weekend so special was just the icing on the cake. If I could give this deli more than 5 stars I would. The family that owns it and the team that works with their clients are some of the best I've met thus far. Thank you Gere-a-Deli for making the weekend so special for us. read more

Seriously fantastic. Went here on a recommendation from a friend and we were not disappointed! All three of us made custom sandwiches and the man helping us was so helpful in helping us make the perfect sandwiches for us! We tried both the French roll and the ciabatta bread and both were fresh and soft! They loaded the sandwiches with meat, so much so that my husband had to take some of it off to eat his whole sandwich. They are huge and so flavorful! I also got the root beer on tap, which I wasn't a fan of but it was really good! It tasted a lot like black licorice, which I don't like, but that's totally a preference and not based on the quality! The best bakery / coffee house in the area. Prices and (often) long lines reflect the great offerings. Anything you order is going to be good. The deserts are especially wonderful. Your first visit should be scheduled between 2:30 pm - 3:30 pm to avoid long lines and waiting for your breakfast, lunch, takeout or dessert and coffee for 30 minutes. Anyone who knows me can attest to my deeply rooted adoration for all things between two slices of bread. I don't care what kind of bread. Wheat, White, Rye, Sourdough, Croissant, Roll... Shit, I'd even take the heels of the loaf. Sam (Navy man) suggested Gere-a-deli and we all weakly obliged. When my sister asked what kind of food they had, he blankly stared and said, "um. Deli stuff?" So we schlepped in and placed our orders. My sandwich was huge and delicious and wonderful and sandwich-y. My only complaint has nothing to do with the actual deli except for the fact that it was the scene in which the following took place. Me - (filling my lemonade from the spout) Middle-aged Man stares me down... slightly lecherous, but not really. M-A M: you must be crazy to get a tattoo way up in there Me: Oh? this one (pointing to the chai on the inside of my left arm) Nah, it didn't really hurt. It only took about five minutes. Insider tip: You get the half-reuben, you ask for roast beef instead of corned beef since they roast their own beef and most the other meats have preservatives, then you ask them to toast it. The meats and cheeses are absolutely delicious, fresh, and cut to proper slice thickness. Secret sauces are delicious and you can't go wrong with a hot or cold sandwich. Salads are tasty, and OOOOOWWWWW the DESERTS! You better be ready to share the tasties and have espresso ready because they are rich delicious. I love their mango penne. Moved away from Anacortes for a few years and this was something I craved! I also tried the low cal wrap and it was so healthy! We found this gem for lunch before taking an afternoon kayaking trip. Don't be discouraged if there are lines as they move fast. There are really too many options for food here which makes the decision making difficult. But whether you go with quiches, soups, salads, or sandwiches you can't miss. Great sandwiches. The choices are almost overwhelming. Really solid potato salad. Worth the .50 cent upgrade (from potato chips). Good, attentive service. Busy, but the lines move. Unsurprisingly, it gets very busy on a Friday for lunch. Parking isn't great, but that's not their fault. You need a car to get around in Anacortes, but on some stretches of Commercial there aren't enough parking spots. Perhaps a combination of poor city planning, ferry parking, and local retail doing reasonably well. A little patience and a short walk solves the parking. read more
