I love a good bowl of mi kho from time to time. It was very delicious and I washed it down with a nice flavorful bowl of soup. Ghien MI go hit the spot. But on my recent visit I tried the com ga hai nam and it's my new favorite menu item. I think I will go back next week to get my fix. The staff is also very nice and courteous. The restaurant is very clean and the decorations and ambiance add a special touch that many other restaurants lack in the area . The mì gõ spot in Bolsa is definitely worth trying. The staff are friendly, quick, and make you feel comfortable right away. Even when it gets busy in the evening, they still manage to serve customers efficiently without long waits. The food is delicious and really captures that traditional Vietnamese street food flavor. The broth is rich, the noodles have a great texture, and dishes like mì, hủ tiếu, and wontons are all well seasoned and satisfying. Final Thought: 2.50/5 This place is another restaurant that we occasionally see being advertised by our Vietnamese YouTubers. We've gone here 2x now. The first time we came (about 1-2 years ago), the general experience felt better. This second time around just seemed so underwhelming compared to before from the service to the food. Perhaps it was the timing of when we went, but that shouldn't excuse much, if anything. Food: 1. Cơm Gà Hải Nam: 3.8/5 One of my go-to dishes. It seems pretty hard to mess this up because it's just boiled chicken with seasoned rice cooked with chicken stock. Typically paired with a ginger fish sauce and pickled veggies. The chicken that they used was quite good in regards to the texture and flavor. It's called gà dai in Vietnamese. This meat has a different kind of bite in comparison to other chickens like the rotisserie chicken from Costco. Kind of hard for me to describe. This one has a little bit more resistance and chew to it versus other chickens where there's just a soft bite. The rice was slightly under seasoned and needed saving from the fish sauce. My favorite on the dish was the pickled vegetables though. They have a really nice crunch and flavor to them for this dish. 2. Cơm Gà Rô Ti: 2.6/5 Now, this chicken was dry down to the bone. The mouthfeel was not right and the dryness was fairly visible at first sight. The sauce provided helped a little bit, but it was just so hard and dry. These pieces were quite big, as well, and I think that contributes to it. In regard to the flavor, the chicken itself is plain and really dependent on the sauce provided. Again, my favorite item on this dish was the pickled vegetables, which was the same as the one provided with the Hainanese chicken dish. 3. Bún Bò Huế: 3.2/5 My personal preference is typically not the broth dishes. I tried a few spoons from my sister's bowl and hmm...the broth needed some serious diluting with the amount of seasoning added to it. I'm aware that everyone has a different preference with seasonings, but this was just too salty for us. The flavor appeared to have a lot of MSG/chicken bouillon powder added to it, versus the natural flavor from the meat/bones. The use of these seasonings aren't uncommon, but the balance of the flavors needs improvement. Besides that, the rest of the dish was fine. Optimal amounts of meat, herbs, and rice noodles was provided. Drinks: 1. Yogurt Chanh Dây: 4.0/5 My favorite item that we got was this passionfruit yogurt drink. The sweet tooth kicked in and this definitely satisfied it. The yogurt wasn't overly sweet and the passionfruit provided a nice flavor and slight tartness. The consistency of it was very smooth - almost like a smoothie, but very light. Nice crunch from the passionfruit seeds. Overall, this was satisfactory. Quality: Suboptimal Hmm...considering our food came out in about 3 minutes, I question the quality. Fast food is fine, but that is not the expectation when I am going into a restaurant like this. I can't imagine our ordered dishes being freshly cooked in 10 minutes, let alone 3. The bún bò huế was the only item that was hot and that's to be expected with the broth. Our remaining items were warm like they had just been pulled from a food warmer. Perhaps I can understand this during rush hours, but not when there were only 2 groups total at this time. Not ideal. Price: Fair to expensive Perhaps this is because I am a Bay Area girlie, but these prices are not wildly outrageous to me. Being that this is in SoCal, specifically OC, these prices can be considered more expensive than other restaurants. It's also going to depend on what you get. They have food items with prices that range from $10-20. Seems fair, but considering the quality observed during this visit - it's expensive. Service: Suboptimal Pretty much self-service. We went before the dinner rush hour, so there was only one more group along with us in the restaurant. When we walked in, we were disregarded for a second there even though the waiters/waitresses were all gathered at the center table cleaning/organizing chopsticks. Small detail here and perhaps it's not within their job description. The waiter brought over our menus, the paper mats, stack of plates, and bunch of chopsticks, but didn't set the table. This isn't a big deal or anything significant, but again, little details matter. After the food was served, that was the last time we saw our waiter. Location/Parking: Suboptimal to fair This is going to depend on the time you go. I remember the first time we went, it was during the rush hour for lunch and we had to go around in a few circles before we could find a spot in the back. The plaza isn't large and the parking lot is also not large. This spot is located on one of the busier roads of Orange County, so there's going to be some traffic. Wow! Very impressed after today's visit to this restaurant. Service is quick! There were several parties ahead you sign in at the door. Waited about 15-20 minutes for a table of 8 to celebrate my father-in-law's birthday. We were split and got a table and a booth next to each other. A waiter came by our table shortly after to take everyone's order. I ordered the bo luc lac dish with pasta, hubby ordered a chicken and rice dish for the kids to split, hubby ordered crunchy noodles and a soup, father-in-law ordered crunchy noodles and a soup, mother-in-law ordered egg noodles with seafood, and sister-in-law with fried chicken. Everything came out quick! My food was the last to come out and it was DELICIOUS!! The noodles and bo luc lac were so yummy and it was a fairly large portion. Hubby finished his meal and said it was good, very crunchy our youngest asked to try the noodles and really liked them. Kids liked their meal. In-laws enjoyed their meals. My parents and I came here per a family friend's recommendation. It was Sunday around noon and we had to wait about 5 mins before getting seated. The place has plenty of tables and the turnover seems quick. We placed our orders and within a few minutes, our food came out. All cold drinks including water are served in styrofoam to go cups. I tried the bun Bo hue that my mom ordered and it lacked flavor and the sliced meat was a tad tough. The rice noodle soup with sliced pork, wontons, and meatballs was decent. However, when I was finishing my meal, I found a dead bug in my broth. Not sure if I possibly ate his fellow friend during my meal but the fact that the bug was in my bowl the entire time I was eating makes me want to *insert barf emoji*. We drove down to OC to meet some old friends from Virginia visiting Tet Flower Festival. People were raving about Ghien Mi Go even with people from Virginia, amazing, so we had to try this restaurant with them. Like I warned people that where there are tons of young VN waiting to get in, you should be worried because these kids only care about facade, not the real thing, TASTE of FOOD. So we got in line, waited for about 20 minutes or so. Everyone seemed to be so excited but me. The place is small and packed with customers, we got a table for 6 right in front next to this prop VN rickshaw. One thing brighten our day was the young lady who takes order, quite pleasant, humorous and extremely helpful. We had fun ordering our food. Not much to order for us, everyone gets the same infamous bowl of noodles, the special bowl (with everything one it). You can have egg noodles, small or thick, rice noodles (pho) or both egg noodles and rice noodles. I like VN Chinese noodles soup with extra fried lard (port fat cut small and fried until crispy almost like pork rinds but pure fat not skin). This place charges $2.5 for a little cup which is totally ripped off because one person can't eat all and too little for many people. Most of other restaurants are free. So if I go alone, a big bowl $16 + $2.5 = $18.5 is a little high compared to Mi La Cay, Mi Trieu Chau down a few blocks which tastes much better and fried lard are free. But there are not many kids going there LOL. So the noodles soup came out. The soup is excellent, just right, not too sweet, not too salty, very good. The meats are plenty on my large bowl, great. But the noodles are soft and have no textures, no taste and rice noodles bedded together, soggy unlike in a real Chinese noodles restaurant, dark brown with crunch at every bite, tasty egg noodles. What makes a great bowl of egg noodles soup, the broth, the meat and the most important thing is the noodles, this restaurant didn't have all 3. The service for the second time was even better than the first day. (Pro tip: If you can't decide between the two, know that you get a small bowl of broth if you order the dry version.) We ordered both and have to say, the dried noodles had a leg up on the soup. Ok today's experience definitely needs a huge recognition. Food was good as normal and cost was a bit over the top in my pov, however service is beyond what expected from a Vietnamese restaurant. We got our typical follow up and check in on our food. Towards the end was where I was blown away. I accidentally forgot to grab my drink on the way out and ran back in within 1-2 minutes. They had already cleared the table for next group of guests and I asked if they still had it since I wasn't done. Came on a Sunday and there was plenty of parking in the plaza. The restaurant is big and spacious good for larger parties. The service here is really nice and quick. I got a #7 combo egg noodles dry and a bbq pork and wonton egg noodle soup. Both items had a lot of toppings and meat but not enough noodles. It also wasn't that flavorful enough I had to add a lot of sauces. I liked that they have a lot of sauce on the side options and that they mix their peppers and garlic beware though the peppers are quite spicy. I just came back to this restaurant today and tried their Com ga hai nam. It was so delicious, I love their seasoned rice, it was soft and tasty especially when added a bit of the gingers sauce. Came here 7 months ago for their Bun Bo Hue which was very flavorful and delicious. Came back and their menu had changed. They no longer service Bun about Hue so it was a huge disappointment since we drove over an hour to come here. Apparently they have another restaurant 3 minutes away that now serves it, but we had already came so far so we decided to stay. I got their combination noodle that came with a variety of meats and veggies. Noodles were very chewy and bouncy. The meat was a tad dry but it came with a bowl of soup on the side so that helped even out the dryness. I've only gone on weekends which is normally very crowded.
