    Food truck sign

My wife and I decided to hit up the night market in Phoenixville with the intention of getting food and networking with local businesses in the area. Gigi & Big R's food truck was the main food establishment there outside of the local vendors. Their food was an easy choice because I could smell their delicious meals throughout the night market. I ordered the fried whiting with Mac n cheese & rice n beans. The price was very affordable for the amount and quality of food which was amazing. The food came out quickly and the fish was so crunchy and flavorful just like I like it. Can't wait to check out their restaurant in the city when I'm in the area.

Me and my best friend went to the lantern fest in Coatesville last Saturday and had the pleasure of trying this food truck! It was so good, we didn't even walk back to our sits we just stood there and ate the entire platter! The people were so nice, and fast the food was amazing! And turns out my step dad actually knows the owner, such a small world! 10/10 would def recommend

I have been searching recently for some delicious soul fried fish! I asked around and I heard try GiGi's more than once! I was on a mission for fish..but once I got there and smelled all the different yummy foods! Again--focus-so the order area is a small space, but it has approximately 5-7 chairs and one table! The menu items are listed and there were many options! I ordered the whiting fish; beans and rice with Mac and cheese! The Mac and Cheese was not cheesy and easily forgettable! The fish was exactly what I was seeking--seasoned well outer crunch and flaky inside! The prices were reasonable-I will be back for sure!

Plenty of food for $20. I ran into this place during the July 4th festival downtown and the line was long and I see why. Flavorful Caribbean food with plenty to share. Though the seasoning could have been a bit better, the food was well done for a group of folks working out of their truck. Not much to say here, but "job well done."

Jerk chicken (with stew chicken gravy), cabbage and rice & peas... very spicy!! But not bad.

I love GiGi's & nem's food. I used to go to the truck on 38th and Spruce, which I learned today is no more :( I was advised that the trucks are at the Passyunk location as well as 58th & Woodland on Wednesdays/Thursdays/Fridays. (You're welcome!) Anywho, I went to the store front today and noticed it was recently updated. The restaurant looked clean, which I really appreciated. The transaction was quick and easy. I ordered fried whiting, yams and greens (delish!) and jerk chicken with cabbage, rice & peas (very spicy!). The jerk was almost unbearably spicy but I expect that from jerk so hopefully my mama wasn't too bothered by the meal. Overall, I will continue to return to this restaurant. Great quality food, great pricing and I really enjoyed my meal.

Standard "soul food hood spot". This isn't a dine in spot...so be warned. I tried their food at Made in America one year and ventured to Yelp to see where I could find them when leaving Philly during my last visit. It sucks that so many reviews are less than complimentary. Thankfully, I haven't had the same experience. The menu is extensive and it was my first time ever seeing fried curry wings on a menu. I'm not a fan of their mac & cheese. It's yellow but not cheesy whatsoever. My food recommendations include: collard greens, fried whiting, potato salad, curry and oxtails.

Loved the catfish, macs and cheese and collard greens!! Got this at the food truck at the Navy Yard. Everyone was super nice and the food was great!! I highly recommend them!!

I have been going to this location for years. I have tried their food truck located at 38th/Spruce, but it is always hard to find a parking spot. This location is more catered to the foot traffic. The location at 5943 Haverford Ave. was my preferred choice where parking is always available. They have now added two tables in this location and a flat screen tv. I always order the large fish platter with potato salad and candy yams. And the food is always delicious and the portions are huge!

    Awesome American Soul/Caribbean Food menu!!

The red snapper was visually stunning but could have been seasoned a bit more and was slightly dry. The pan seared oxtail dumplings were outstanding and full of rich flavor. The cornbread skillet was equally memorable. Their mocktails were creative, refreshing, and wonderfully crafted with vibrant flavors. The waitress was very pleasant, but had trouble remembering. Would definitely order the dumplings and the cornbread skillet every time!

The dining room is beautifully decorated--perfectly lit for an evening meal with warm, cozy candlelit tables. The seating is spaced comfortably apart, allowing for private conversation, especially on a night that isn't overly crowded. It's an ideal spot for date night. The restaurant is BYOB, and I noticed they also offer mocktails on the menu. We began with soup. The lobster bisque was savory and flavorful, featuring a plump piece of lobster in the center. The New England clam chowder was also thoroughly enjoyed. There's a wide selection of entrées, and we appreciated the recommendations on the most popular dishes. In addition to steak, poultry, and seafood, the menu also includes a section dedicated to vegan entrées. I ordered the lump crab cake as my entrée, and we also had the fried red snapper. Although the crab cake was lump rather than jumbo lump, it was well seasoned and not overloaded with filler. It was generously sized, filling, and served with a citrus remoulade that complemented it nicely. The whole red snapper was a generous market-priced portion, perfectly coated and fried. The fish was moist, flavorful, and cooked just right--not overdone. Each entrée is thoughtfully garnished; the red snapper was served with fried plantain and mango salsa, which paired beautifully. Sides are served à la carte. We chose the lobster mac and cheese and sautéed spinach. We also ordered the calamari a bit later but enjoyed it before our entrées arrived. It was crispy and drizzled with a sauce that balanced sweetness with a subtle kick of heat. The lobster mac and cheese featured pasta (think it was cavatappi) in a rich, creamy cheese like gouda, topped with a generous piece of lobster. The sautéed spinach was lightly seasoned and cooked perfectly, complementing the meal well. Overall, the dishes were well balanced and full of flavor. We didn't have room for dessert this time, but on our next visit I'd love to try either the butter cake or the bread pudding

The Love is better. The space is beautiful, the service is consistently warm, and Stephen Starr's fingerprints are all over it. I love the painted white brick, the floral artwork along the walls, the street-level energy, and the outdoor seating. I also remember taking the elevator upstairs once. I can't remember whether we actually stayed and ate up there or asked to move back downstairs, but the space was charming and extremely private. It would be a great setting for a group dinner or event. Personally, I prefer downstairs. It's darker, livelier, and I like being at street level. The menu historically leaned more heavily into elevated Southern comfort food, which has never been my favorite style of cooking. That's probably why I've tended to prefer The Love for lunch over dinner, especially when Philadelphia has so many Starr restaurants competing for the same night out. I used to get what I remember as a salmon and farro bowl, although the menu appears to have evolved since then. Whatever the exact iteration was, I loved it. Fish and farro are both right in my wheelhouse. I've also enjoyed the kale salad and other lighter dishes. The thing I remember most vividly, though, is the cornbread. It is outrageously good and reason enough to order something for the table. I also give Starr credit for continuing to broaden the range of food styles in his portfolio. Once you've built restaurants across Italian, French, Mexican, English, steakhouses, seafood, and the rest, there are only so many obvious boxes left to check. The Love feels like its own lane: distinctly American, approachable, comfort-driven, and still polished enough to feel like a Starr restaurant. Looking at the menu now, it seems broader than I remember, with more options that appeal to me, and I'd be psyched to go back. The Love probably isn't the first Starr restaurant I'd choose purely based on cuisine, but that says more about the depth of his Philadelphia portfolio than it does about this restaurant. The room, hospitality, location, and execution are all excellent. I'd happily come here any day. Starr doesn't miss.
