I was hauling it up the LSD when I got the notion for a late bite. A quick scan of nearby slices brought up this place. Gigio's is one of a few pizza joints open late night with slices and more. Based on reviews, it said slices are NY style. I ended up with a sausage & pepperoni. While ordering I saw a guy savoring his hand cut fries, so I had to have one also. He added gooey cheese, which I opted not to. Two slices and the fries put me back close to $9.60 with tax. How was it? Salty. I couldn't eat the pepperoni. I ate around the meat. The sausage was salty also, but bearable. I doubt I'd ever return for pizza, other items.. definitely maybe. The stars are for their fries. Though I wasn't impressed, I know a few pizza fans that would love this pie. read more

I'll admit to never visiting Gigios until recently, even tho I've been in Chicagoland spanning twenty years. Glad I finally stopped in. Gigios offers a great slice at a good price! I loved the family atmosphere as well. Guests and staff seem familiar with each other which is great to see these days. We ordered two pizzas today at 2pm. When the call was made, we had a 7min wait before someone picked up. We didn't get our pizzas until 4pm. The driver was pleasant but we were told the pizza would take an hour. When we called to complain it took 9 min for someone to take our call. Doesn't look much when you passing by definitely but I wanted some pizza NY style and Yelp suggested this place. It was late and I was surprised that it was open so I decided to check it out. One guy over the counter serving you very fast , repeatedly screaming your order to back. I liked that. One lady was having her slice and she recommended cheese and pepperoni both.. so we listened:) There are few tables to seat and eat if you want. Besides pizza you can find here some saladas, pastas, soup sometimes and some other apps. Few different sodas and that is it. Fine by me. Slices are huge and juicy. Marinara is delicious. Decided to try a new pizza place and I regret it. Ordered a pepperoni, sausage, mushroom pizza and mozzarella sticks. Mozzarella sticks were the worst I've ever had. The cheese was hard rubber. Meaning they were overcooked. The pizza looked good though, there was plenty of toppings and cheese. I found this spot through a Chicago Tribune article that stated that the slice pizza here is Top 10 in all of Chicago. This place happened to be on the way for me to the city so I decided to drop by. I ordered the sausage and pepperoni pizzas. The slices were only about 4 bucks each and it only takes a few minutes for them to reheat the slices. I was pretty much in and out within 5 minutes. When I got back to my car, I dove into the pizzas and after the first bite of the sausage pizza, I thought to myself - this is one of the best pizzas I've ever had! I personally liked the sausage more than pepperoni. But , both were amazing. The crust was super good too. read more

I had no problem with the time taken to deliver and the temperature of the pizza was decent. The driver was great. That is the only reason I give two stars instead of one star. Now. The pizza was severely undercooked. The sauce was virtually non-existent and bland. The cheese tastes funky. The pepperoni was ok. Sausage was sort of acceptable if it was seasoned better. If this is New York City style pizza-New York City style pizza sucks bad. I can tell you this isn't proper New York City style pizza. May be a little bias, as Gigios was where my family ordered pizza from almost 50 years ago. I remember going there after grammer school and picking up a slice. Though I still live in Chicago, Gigios is no longer close. However, I've picked up some sausage slices several times a year. The crust has a nice crispness and taste. The sauce still have nice flavor, not overwhelming and just the right amount. Their sausage has a nice taste with fennel noticeable and is generously found throughout the slice. Best New York style slice I've had in the city. Foldable like its done in New York. The only difference from long ago is the slices seem to have a little less cheese. read more

Great pizza and incredible service! My husband and I placed an order for pizza to be delivered later in the evening due to a prior engagement. We mixed up the time of the engagement and instead waiting for the order like we scheduled, I thought we might see if the place could deliver the order ASAP. Staple of the Uptown neighborhood and the best New York Style pizza in Chicago, bar none. They have an amazing sauce and they don't skip on the cheese either (yes, it has a great cheesy 'stretch'). The building had recently been fixed up and rehabbed as well (within the last 6 or so years), so some of the pictures on Yelp don't do it justice. For the record, I often order a Large Double Cheese. ~ Tip: When searching Gigio's Pizza Chicago online, sometimes search engines will take people to Gigio's in Evanston (gigiostogo.com) instead of the Uptown location (gigiospizzachicago.com), and if you try to order from that website it will tell you that you are out of their range. After a wait of about 20 min, which is not crazy, we get our pizza, but as we start to eat it, it's seems out mushrooms (of a mushroom pepperoni pizza only) are totally rare. Like they were forgot and thrown on last minute. Soft and undercooked they ruined the rest of the pizza. For such a small effort I am deeply disappointed, a shame for how close they are. Our food came close to an hour after the order indicated, nearly two hours after we ordered. The food was not hot, the wings were too salty, plus the pizza was not that good. They also didn't send the drink I requested. First and last time we order from here. What I don't appreciate is being lied to when we call to check on the order. Lets face it. Uptown is just not a good neighborhood for food, unless you want asian. There are plenty of quality Pho spots, a few good Chinese places and Bale for Banh Mi. Order any other type of food and your risk factor for dissapointment goes up significantly. I have seen and heard through the grapevine that Gigio's is pretty bomb. I used to eat there back in the day and I do not remember it being so great. Did they change? So I decided to head there and check it out. Yeah it is the same crummy pizza that I remember. Nothing seems fresh, the Tomato Sauce has no punch, the Sausage is forgettable. It's not Sarpino's bad but it's just not good pizza. Yet what's really bad is it could still be the best pizza in Uptown. Rosati's Pizza I don't even acknowledge as pizza, Godfather Pizza is rather vomit inducing. Can my fellow yelpers please name a decent pizza spot in Uptown? Oh and for those claiming it's the best NY Style Pizza in Chicago I say Bullarky! That distinction belongs to Jimmy's Pizza Cafe. In addition to all this unpleasant crummy pizza talk a couple of the guys in the back were arguing/threatening each other about tips I think. I fell in love with Gigio's Pizzeria during my first visit. The pizza was huge, NY style slice, and tasted great! The taste reminded me of Papa John's pizza, which led me to ordering another huge slice of it. Gigio's isn't a fancy pizza place, but it does do the job, and the place is decent enough to dine in at, but not big enough for big groups. I'm assuming most that order from Gigio's Pizzeria live in the Uptown neighborhood, and are long time customers. Most I'm assuming order takeout, or stop in while in the area, but for the looks of it; I don't think it gets very crowded. As for pizza; Gigio's Pizzeria is one of the gems in the Uptown neighborhood, and looks like it has been around for years. As for location, it sits within 200 meters from CTA Wilson, Harry S Truman College, and right on the strip next to Uptown Bikes. Their pizza is good, but their service is horrible. I placed an order and it said it would be delivered at a certain time. Well the time came and went and no delivery. I called to check on the status of my delivery, a lady answered and she put me on hold for about 20 minutes, just to be hung up on. Called back and again was put on hold and hung up on again. Called a third time and a guy answered and he said their driver quit in the middle of a delivery. They could've told me this half an hour ago when I called the first time, I would've understood, but the rudeness of them just hanging up on their customers is what gets to me. With all the construction going on at the Wilson Red line stop they have probably been hurting, so go in there now and show them some love. This is a pretty good spot for take out pizza. It'll be my go to for delivery in the future. The pizza was hot, delivered within the hour and had good ingredients for the price. A medium is enough for two people with a slice or two left over. The crust was thicker than I expected. The sauce isn't bright but put on in good proportion, not too much. read more

Their, uh, "dining room" is nowhere that you would want to have a first date...or even a monthly check-in with your parole officer. However, the pizza is fantastic and that's all that matters. This seems more dead-on New York style than their Evanston cousin, which I enjoyed regularly throughout the late 90s and early 00s, and more sporadically since. This Gigio's serves you a greasy, cheesy slice with a nice, slight crisp on the outside of the crust from the second trip through the oven.
