We ordered every vegetarian item on the menu: - Veggie Buns: Delicious, mushroomy, and soft buns. - Sesame Balls: crispy outside and warm gooey inside, not too oily - Veggie Dumpling: delicious and melt-in-your mouth - Egg custard bun: soft bun with silky smooth creme Every item we ordered was perfect, the food came out quickly, and it was really good value (LT $20 per person). Cannot live without their shrimp and bokchoy steamed dim sum. Not to mention their char siu bao pork buns. I lived in Hong Kong and when it was still a British colony and miss my Cantonese dim sum. Ginger Cafe fills that void. Try their Happy Hour. $8 martinis, cosmos etc. New fave the HH mu shu chicken rolls. A hint of spice and so flavorful. When they offer my half Korean self chopsticks and bring the soy sauce/chili paste instantly, I silently cheer. Excellent new manager is keeping the pace on task. Only bad thing is I think they took a couple fave items off the menu. Singapore fried noodles and a spicy fish fried with veggies. read more

Their dumpling and dim sum were really good but my chow fun was gross loll the noodle wasnt cooked with the toppings so it was all white and didnt taste like anything. the veggies were wayyyy undercooked. it tasked like they threw them in there after they finished cooking. very odd experience lol they have a large parking lot and cool interior though! read more

Great food and great service! Our server was friendly and attentive, even if he was busy with other customers. We ordered the dim sum sampler, crispy whole chicken, and XO fried rice. The dim sum sampler was SO good and you can tell it's good quality. My favorites were the pork shu mai and squid ink lobster dumpling. If we had more space in our stomachs, we would have ordered the custard buns - they look so cute! The crispy whole chicken was so tender and flavorful. We ate the crispy chicken 2 years ago and the owner was so happy to see us eat so happily. The hot oil paired well with the chicken. The XO fried rice was also good. It had a lot of chicken but I wish there was more shrimp with it. the shrimp was good! Overall, I think this place is a must go. This is a modern Asian fusion Chinese restaurant! So expect prices to be higher than the normal Chinese restaurant. This is a very pretty restaurant and is smaller than expected. Came here for my moms birthday with my family and ordered a variety of dishes. Portions are large but the prices are higher for sure, but I still would come back! My favorite with the blue crab cheese wontons, tofu in mandarin sauce, and the fried rice! Everything else was good too but these dishes stood out! We also ordered their egg custard buns that look like little piggies. It was pretty good and cute, but I had better buns. Dim Sum All Day!!! Our go-to for Chinese food! I moved to Sunnyvale recently and whenever I am craving Chinese food we eat here via uber eats or dining in. I was lucky enough to try this food at a wedding recently. I have to say,I was very impressed. I was helping with a family members wedding so I got to see a lot behind the scenes as well. Unfortunately, no pictures. I was too busy running around. Taste: Oh my gosh, this food did not disappoint! I was so impressed by the flavor notes, textures and tenderness. The candied pecan shrimp was cooked to perfection: nice, plump juicy shrimp, not too sweet, with delicious candied pecans that give just the right amount of crunch before melting away in your mouth. The lamb was tender and moist and who does not love the Chinese style buttery sea bass, especially when it is cooked to perfection?! My least favorite dish was the lotus leaf wrapped fried rice only because wrapping off it made it more of a steamed rice and less of the slightly crispy fried rice texture I was looking for. Yet, I still requested an extra box, brought it home and have enjoyed it everyday since. Like I said, everything was good. My only regret is missing out on the cocktail hour because the 2 hors d'oeuvres I did manage to stuff in my mouth while running around we're amazing! Service: They are professional and so great to work with! They communicated well with the wedding coordinator, were prompt and on time, and even though we were significantly behind on our schedule, they were patient with us and did their best to keep the food warm. I communicated often with the catering coordinator who was really such a pleasure to work with and was good about providing encouragement to move things along so people could enjoy a fresh, hot, meal. No rudeness or attitude anytime he spoke with us. The serving team was not as friendly. They don't always acknowledge that they heard your request yet still manage to come right back to you with whatever you asked for. So, yeah their not all smiley, but they worked hard to get a lot of food out quickly, for a reception that started 1-2 hours late... I really could not blame them. Great food, amazingly easy to work with. Can't wait for the next cousin to get married so I can ask them to hire Ginger Cafe to cater. In the meantime, I look forward to visiting the restaurant and trying the food their soon. read more

My coworkers turned me on to this awesome Chinese restaurant. We mostly doordash because we work from home. I did visited this quaint little place on Friday and service did not disappoint. They were on it from getting our food quickly, refilling our water, and ensuring we don't need anything else. I got the lunch special string bean spicy chicken and my sis got orange chicken (btw better than panda). Stopped in on Labor Day primarily for the little piggy custard buns. Dined in right at opening to a completely empty restaurant. Was seated promptly and ordered the Dumpling Platter and Steamed Egg Custard Buns. Steamed Dumpling Platter - Comes with two of each dumpling; Siu Mai, Lobster, Seabass and Baby Stingray Dumplings for $16. Definitely, on the steeper price for dumplings and not the best I've ever had. Sure the little stingray and fish dumplings are cute, but the taste is subpar for price point and expectations. The Siu Mai is tough and rubbery. Lobster Dumpling was filled with minced lobster, potato, cilantro and corn. It had a delicate lobster flavor, but felt that all the potato and corn was filler. Though the corn was lightly sweet and cilantro brightened up the flavor everything this dumpling was mediocre but probably the best dumpling of the bunch. Sea Bass dumplings has pork and mushroom, very uninteresting. Baby Stingray Dumplings was filled with a piece of salmon, shrimp patty, and crab claw. Cute concept, but too much filling and oversized for a "dumpling". Found it the exterior too doughy and thick and the salmon was fishy tasting and the shrimp patty a strange texture. Definitely, my least favorite part of the platter. Do yourself a favor and skip out on ordering this. Baby Pig Custard Buns - star of the show, super cute little piggy steamed buns filled with a thick and creamy egg custard. You get three buns and they come out piping hot. Wish they were filled a bit more with custard, but these were pretty good! Priced at $6.50 is expensive to me, IMO as you can get these for cheaper elsewhere ... but the novelty is that they're cute. Service was quick, friendly and the wait was reasonable as the dumplings are made to order. Price is steep for what they serve and the food is subpar. Probably wouldn't dine in again, but would probably grab the Baby Pig Custard Buns to-go as a cute treat for someone. read more

Not sure what happened to this place but the hot & sour soup was inedible. I think they put too many chili's in it and it was completely missing the sour factor. I had two bites and had to stop cause it felt like we were eating pepper spray....all fire no flavor . I don't think we will be coming here ever again. So beautiful when you walked in. Very high ceilings and bold design. Not huge but very mighty. If you want the best Chinese food in California this is the place to go. We ordered Kung Pao Tofu, vegetarian Mu Shu, vegetarian Hot Sour Soup, vegetarian lettuce cups, Tarot Dumplings and the most amazing Crispy Tofu in Mandarin Sauce. Absolutely delicious. BAK CHOY AND SHRIMP DUMPLINGS ($4.5) - tiny pieces of bak choy and shrimp meat. Wrapped in clear rice paper. Really enjoyed this one. PORCUPINE CUSTARD BUNS ($5) - OH MY. You, must, order. It's tinier then the picture portrays. But it's so delicious even if it's too cute to eat. Inside is a perfect softness with a small sweet spot of custard. Outer later is a nice soft thin crunch. This place is a place I don't mind eating at but don't typically go out of my way to eat at. This review is based on my recent lunch experience. The server seemed to rush us a bit with our order, and not particularly welcoming with his tone. The place itself was half full but maybe efficiency is his goal. I ordered the Orange chicken lunch special with egg fried rice, which came with the soup of the day. The soup was decent, my brother said it was bland but I felt it had a good amount of flavor with green onion and meat. It was nice and light. We also ordered the soft shell crab spring rolls, which seem like a big amount but is great to share. These are light as well since they're packed with greens, and come with the peanut dipping sauce. Then came the lunch special portion- This is the biggest note I have. The ratio of rice to entrée is 1:2. The size of the Orange chicken pieces themselves were also quite large. This isn't to say that they're not suitable for chopsticks, but they're definitely fitting for fork users since fitting one whole piece is usually two bites. In this sense, the portions are "Americanized" and generous. For the price ($9) it's incredible. Quality is decent. read more

I think pan-asian cuisine is hard to get right, but this place definitely impressed me! The food is mainly Chinese based with SE Asian influences. The first cue to it not being entirely authentic Chinese is how well and modernly decorated it is! We were all surprised that with 'cafe' in the title it was a lovely swanky place with high ceilings (albeit slightly cheesy asian decor such as large buddha heads everywhere). The menu itself is huge and hard to choose from since everything looks delicious. There are plenty of vegetarian options. The Lobster with Ginger Scallion over Shanghai Noodle dish is amazing. Currently it's $25 which is a bit hefty for a dish but totally worth it. There is a mound of delicious lobster- two of us ate a bunch and still had enough for leftovers the next day. I highly recommend trying it! They have lunch specials every day from 11-3pm which includes soup and fried rice. We had the Kung Pao Vegetarian Chicken from the lunch specials. The veggie chicken was really good, but the dish itself was overly soy-sauced and too salty. We also had the a Pan-Fried Egg dish with Shrimp which was delicious. For those of you who have never had it, it's always been one of my favorite ways to have rice dishes growing up, with essentially an omelette over fried rice. They have dim sum options all day every day! From the dim sum menu I had the Lobster Dumplings which were awesome. Nice chunks of lobster with a good combination of small veggies-- I loved the corn that accented the texture. My only qualm was that service could have been a little more attentive toward the end. The food came out quickly but getting the bill and stuff took a while. But that was minor compared to a great experience overall. Full bar menu with wines, beers, and nice cocktail menu. I loved my Mojito soda which had tons of fresh lime and mint without making me feel like an alchy over lunch. They have Happy Hour from 3-6 pm with tons of food and drink specials. The place has been here for about a decade and I never knew it existed. Will definitely be back to try more on the menu! read more

The food in this place does not taste good at all, and it's absurdly expensive for what it is. I love americanized Chinese food when the mood calls for it, but I'd rather eat at Panda. Their orange chicken was soggy and flavorless, so it tasted like chewing on a wet towel. The mongolian beef had way too much cornstarch and not enough seasoning on it, so it tasted like bland jello. I tossed out most of the food after eating a bit of it. So sad! Employees are really friendly though! read more

Ginger Cafe had a booth at the Bridal Expo this weekend and after tasting two of their appetizers we were wanting more! The gf's and I headed to Sunnyvale to see whatelse Ginger Cafe had to offer. Dim sum all day was great!! We opted for the appetizer platter and each of them were yummy. I'm no Dim Sum connoisseur and I don't question what's inside. I just bite and if I like it, I tear it up! We enjoyed the Dim Sum, Sesame Balls, Chicken Mu Shu, Curry Chicken and Combination Chow Fun. Service was good and the place itself is a nice modern restaurant. Prices were decent. This place has been sitting in my bookmarks approximately forever (but then again, so has everything else in my bookmarks), and I finally got there last night. Of the several items we ordered, the Chardonnay chicken and the Worchestershire lamb with steamed buns stood out. Although, at this point, I would have to note that I didn't get a chance to try the taro vegetable dumplings (thanks, kids). The Chardonnay chicken was "just" a "normal" Americanized-Chinese dish with chicken and mushrooms and asparagus in a brown sauce, but the addition of Chardonnay gave it an aroma and richness that made it soar. The Worchestershire lamb with steamed buns was obviously influenced by Peking duck, though of course the flavors were different. The lamb was a little tough but not at all gamey and a little spicy (not too spicy for the kids, though yours may vary in their tolerance). It's kind of a weird location, being pretty much the only restaurant in a strip surrounded by spas and title companies or something. But that just means plenty of parking in the evening, right? They have a pretty expansive menu, so I'll be back to try more items. Overall, a rather interesting take on Chinese fusion. read more

By looking at the number of reviews Ginger Cafe received, we certainly thought this would be a nice spot to celebrate my mom's birthday but turns out I was completely wrong. We were here on a Saturday night and all the restaurants are usually so crowded but this place was pretty empty. We got seated right away. The ambiance of the restaurant is good but that's it! Veg Chicken Kung Pao - 1 This was so damn basic. Not worth the money they charged! $16 Veg Chicken Filet Lemongrass - 4 This was the only dish which was good but again pricey. $17 Fried Tilapia Filet with Chili and Garlic - 2 This was so freaking expensive. I know seafood is expensive but it better be worth it! This was just soaked in so much oil that it was disgusting! $20 Garlic Fried Rice - 3 CUSTOMER SERVICE - 4 WAIT TIME - 5 No wait time.
