I should start by saying that the one-star review is in reference to the service, and not the food. The pizza has been consistently good! My husband and I ate here last night and had terrible service. He purposely chose Giordano's because the pizza takes a while to make and he wanted to sit, chat and have some beers. He only had one before the pizza arrived (which is roughly 45 minutes after you order) because the waitress never checked back in. I finally saw her walk by, so I flagged her down and asked her if she could get him a drink. She casually said "yeah" and walked away like it was a nuisance. When the pizza was delivered, my drink was empty and she didn't offer to refill. She asked if she could serve our first piece, and when I said yes, she held her hand out and stared at me (waiting for me to hand her my plate). She was so unpleasant, that we didn't stay to eat a second piece or get another drink. I don't know why that sort of personality is in the service industry, but it sure makes the experience suck. Also, looking through the reviews- it seems the bad service is an ongoing and consistent issue at this location. There isn't a single management response to the negative reviews either, which shows a lack of interest in improvement. read more

First time in Illinois, so I was told that I MUST try deep dish pizza, I mean it's what Chicago is famous for right? So my first stop was Giordano's. Let me tell you, being from California our way of pizza is very different. This pizza was SO HUGE! Deep dish with tons of veggies and cheese filling! I loved the flavor of the crust and sauce. This was definitely a pizza not to be taken lightly, as I was only able to eat 1 slice! I also tried Lou Malnati's while I was in Chicago and Giordano's won in my opinion, the crust just had more flavor to me. The house salad was dee-lish as well! Please refer to order #124. I preordered 3 pizzas at 6pm so that it would be ready by time we got there at 7pm. It is now 7:43pm. Thank you for not apologizing, thank you for not putting in our order, thank you for keeping us waiting, and thank you for serving us cold pizza. I come here once a year whenever I come home to visit my family and you guys dropped the ball. Our server forgot one of our salads and had to be reminded. This is completely unacceptable. We have eaten at and ordered from Giordano's several times. We ordered last weekend and we were VERY disappointed. I ordered on line to pick up at a specific time. I got there a little early so I had to wait about 10 minutes which was fine. The issue was after waiting I expected to get a piping hot pizza but it was barely warm. I had to put it in the oven when I got home for about an hour. Very lacking in flavor. I also ordered wings. There was no mention of how many wings you got for $14.25 but imagine my surprise when we only got 6 wings. That is RIDICULOUS! I can buy 3 lbs of wings for less at the store. Service has gone down hill, but still some of the best pizza around! Delivery orders consistently arrive late (like an hour late). When we inquire about our late order, we get hung up on. Tonight we were hung up on by Jamie. Pizza is 5 stars, but delivery service (or lack there of) is not worth it. We live three miles from this location, but orders take 3 hours to arrive. So in California, we have Zacharys Chicago-Style Pizza.... but it's sooooo not the same... probably b/c Zachary's is healthier and has way more sauce...but damn this is good stuff! Sorry Chicago deep dish... I just don't like you. I feel my taste-buds would like to give this a 1-star, but that's just unjust. There was nothing wrong with it at all!! I simply don't like the idea of this pie:[ Although not TRULY in Chicago, Giordano's is a chain that does live in central Chicago.... at the time I was in Northern Chicago and the front desk suggested this restaurant for a true Chicago-style deep dish pizza. They conveniently delivered to our hotel quickly! We ordered a "regular" pie and a deep dish... The regular was weird to me... sauce and toppings and then cheese on top... why can't it just be what I'm used to?? Then the deep dish, smart creation! But soooo much CHEESE! So much of everything going on!! Although its contents were yummy, but the sauce was sweet... I would not opt for this style of pizza again. Nothing on you Deep Dish Pizza, I'm just stuck in my own ways. We gave out left-overs to the desk staff and they about kissed us they were so thrilled to be getting Giordano's! We had pizza, pasta and salad delivered to our hotel, so I don't know about the actual restaurant, but our delivery experience was excellent and arrived before the promised time. We had the thin crust cheese pizza. The sauce was excellent and made the pizza. It was cut into squares not wedges. I especially enjoyed the baked mostaccoli. Again great sauce which makes or breaks a pasta dish. I'm not sure the next time I'll be in Gurnee, but if I do I plan to check out the rest of Giordano's menu. read more

Terrible service. Wasn't expecting much and got even less. Pizza was what it was but the service was pretty bad. Almost non-existent presence. Took forever for someone to seat us even though the place was 80% empty. Server was completely indifferent. No checking up on us or taking away plates. Had to ask the bus person for service (she should've gotten the tip). Again, wasn't expecting crazy greatness, just something serviceable but failed on that. read more

I barely ever leave a review but our experience definitely warranted one here. We arrived today, 06/30/2019, at 11:45 AM. Not busy at all. The Brushetta appetizer I always order, was so tough it couldn't be chewed or cut with utensils (literally rock hard). Promptly new bread pieces were brought to the table by a person referenced as a manager. But ..I had to rebuild them myself from the bad order as he ONLY brought bread pieces... so not the same with no Balsamic drizzle or really even hot at this point. My sister in law, Paula, with her 3 children joined us and only asked for water and menus while the waitress was still there at the table discussing my dissatisfaction with my Brushetta. Our kids order an appetizer plate to get by as we're all hungry. When my deep dish pizza was DELIVERED to the table (forever later) the waitress asked, THEN, if my sister in law would like to now place an order. During the time lapse between this point and her previous appetizer swing in, the waitress and hostess avoided EVERY single effort anyone at our table made to flag them down for assistance. Including from our 4 teenage children, in addition to 3 adults, my husband and I in the mix. No waters STILL!!! This is all happening even after my sister-in-law got up and asked the SEATED hostess at the hostess station if she could receive her requested waters after waiting so long already to being told by this seated employee/ hostess, "it wasn't her job." Really!!??!! So...... helping customers where you work in CUSTOMER SERVICE as a profession isn't in your job description???? Paua now requests the manager. We drove all the way back here from out of state. We try to stop in each visit. Not sure ever again! We return often, family and friends in the area, as we formerly lived in Grayslake/ Wildwood. "The Manager" on duty told us they were understaffed do to one employee drinking too much the night before and apparently home puking, a new cook, and inexperienced wait staff. What manager tells customers this??? BTW- only the bus woman and Manager brought or refilled our beverages at any point we were there. It's the only time I absolutely refused to leave a tip!!!! Disappointing experience in every single way!! Worst $87.15 we've ever spent! And that was only my bill. My sister IL law actually received a 20% discount on her two sandwiches order but only after requesting it after speaking with the manager. Another $25 order at our table. All staff were and are at fault here!!!!! Shame on you for representing your employer in such a rude and disrespectful way!! And.... You were given every opportunity to, at the very least, apologize. Truly hope the "Hostess" no longer is employed there after today and we wish no ill will on anyone as a norm....but honey you are in the wrong business!!! Many dishes broken while we were there (which your staff laughed and joked about!), bad service, disappointing food quality.....you may want to be considered for a Restaurant Impossible episode!!! There are two common themes about this location that aligns with my experience: 1) the food tastes good and the pizza crust is unique and tasty 2) the service and way the restaurant is run is absolutely horrible. Food always amazing but service is horrible. Last several times we've been there the service was terrible. Tonight we went there. Bridgette waited on us. She was quick to the table, took our order and brought our drinks. After that she pretty much ignored us. I ordered a glass of Pino gricio and something was wrong with it. Very bitter. I couldn't drink it but I had to go up to the bar to bring it back because she never came back to check on us and we were only one of four tables in the dining room. The bus girl was wonderfl and was really taking care of the tables more than our server was. She finally brought a glass of Chardonney and it also was terrible. lVery bitter. My husband tried it and said it upset his stomach. Please check your wines. So again I sat for about twenty minutes with nothing to drink. The bus girl finally saw that I had put the glass out to the end of the table and she came over. I told her I couldn't drink it and she brought me a diet coke. That was flat. Now three drinks gone bad and again the bus girl came over. She told Bridgette who came over with a bit of an attitude. I explained the problem to her and her answer was that she doesn't drink wine so she doesn't know what it's suppose to take like. She finally gave me a bottle of diet pepsi but she was probably the worse server we've ever had there and we've had some really bad ones there. I can only suggest to the owners to please do a better job at training your people. Way to many un trained servers. We decided tonight after trying to many times to end our trips to your place. We walked in and were told 20 minutes and we preordered our pizza. Over an hour went by before we were sat. We were talked to very disrespectfully by 2 separate people. I like this place as it provides a nice family atmosphere and good get together location. The decor is very nice, especially considering it's in a strip mall. For me, in a convenient location, and the wait staff are helpful and friendly. If your new to the area and never had Chicago style, deep dish pizza, this is a good place to come to. However, do keep in mind that they make the pies fresh and since it's deep dish it will take at least 30 to 40 minutes to cook. So, if you're in a rush, go thin crust, but my advice is take your time, enjoy some down time to talk with friends and family, and go with the deep dish pizza. The salads are good too, but be careful in filling up on soups, salads or other appetizers if your going deep dish, because chances are by the time you eat the appetizer, to when the pizza comes out, you will not be hungry and maybe get in one slice. The only down side is in my opinion their dessert menu is weak. You can bet we're checking back in here from time to time. read more

Great Chicago deep dish pizza! Lots of cheese cooked in a thick pan made this one of the best pizza's I've had to date. I think the ingredient combination we ordered with onions weakened the potential rich flavor of the pizza a bit, but it was still really good. I would've like a little less sauce for a more firm inside. During my next visit, Instead of ordering a custom pizza I'd like to try one of their signature pizzas. What changed 3 weeks later when it was time for my nephew to make the same experience that my son did? Doug my same family plus others were denied the opportunity to gather at your location with the same courtesies you offered just 3 weeks prior. Your typical giordanos. Hot and fresh delicious pizza. There bruschetta is to die for and a big portion. A great appetizer to complement any meal. They keep your drinks refilled its nice when you don't have to constantly ask. Staff works hard to make you happy and pleased. Was visiting my Nephew and his girl friend. Took him there and wow. Got a medium meats deep dish pizza. It took about an hour to cook , we were warned ahead of time. It was worth it. My rating of 5 stars says it all. This pizza is absolutely as good as it gets! If you go here and get anything other than the stuffed pizza then you are missing out. This is the stuff that fills you up after eating only 1/2 piece, but you go on to eat more because it simply tastes so good! I personally prefer the pepperoni (a solid layer of it lies between a 1/2 inch thick layer of mozzarella cheese and the crust...yummy!). Nothing is skimped on in this pizza, no matter what toppings you choose! In our area they take call-ahead orders, which we take advantage of often with our little kids. We call about 45 minutes before we're planning to arrive, and our pizza comes to our table shortly after we've been seated. Makes for a quick and relaxing meal with kids or a group. This is a good place to experience Chicago style pizza for Navy families that are visiting for Graduation at Great Lakes. There are many food options on Grand Ave. What I like: 1. Pizza - Amazing deep dish pizza that I can not find in San Diego. I think it's best eaten when it is first served. I wouldn't want it as a leftover. My favorite topping is sausage and green peppers.
