Its our first time here in hawaii and we were told to try Giovanni's and from what i was told they are food trucks but this location is inside the foodhall of Hmart (2nd floor). She even told me that she would refund me if hot and spicy is too spicy for me, And I said i can handle spice , 3 shrimps later I was crying its really spicy!! But i still finished its so good. The location is very cool looking, its hip, the designs of the food hall is very relaxing and beautiful. TIP: Park at hmart parking spaces, it has its own parking structure. From reading various articles across the web, I've got the impression that Giovanni's Shrimp Truck was one of the best on the island when it came to shrimp. But from the many times I've been to Hawaii, I always seem to pass by or arrive at the wrong time. That's why when I found out Giovanni's opened a brick in mortar location nearby the Ward Center in Honolulu, I knew I finally had my chance to come down and see what all the good reviews were about. I arrived around 1PM to see a large warehouse-looking building. Double checking to see I was in the right place, I came across a sign that signaled that the Giovanni's was located on the second floor in the H-Mart's grunge-designed food court. Seeing this, I made my way through the maze-like H-Mart store and finally came across the stairway leading up to the second level. From there, I located Giovanni's and proceeded to look at their menu. With only 3 choices of shrimp, making a selection was easy! I decided to order the Scampi Shrimp which was 16 dollars at the time of this review. I then took my receipt and waited for my food. After about 5-7 minutes, my order was declared ready over an electronic intercom system and I proceeded to pick up my food. **Note: Though the menu explicitly states that a plate can get you a dozen shrimp and two scoops of rice, Giovanni's offers half plates. These are about half the price and come with half a dozen shrimp and one scoop of rice.** Taking a look at the plate at first, I was a bit skeptical of the portion. Each individual piece of shrimp looked pretty small. But after taking a closer look, the scoops of rice were smaller than I thought. The rice and shrimp were also covered with garlic which gave a bit more bulk in the portion category. The rice was given in fair amount as well and I finished the rice just before I finished the shrimp. On the side, a lemon was given to add some zest to the dish as well. After eating, I wasn't exactly stuffed. But this could easily be explained by the fact that this was a seafood dish. With that, I would say the price to portion ratio is good, assuming a little can go a long way with your stomach. But if you are looking for a filling satisfying meal, I'd suggest perhaps ordering more or looking for other options. For 16 dollars in the Honolulu area, a dozen shrimp is not a particularly bad price. The taste of the dish definitely was the catch of the day though! At the beginning, the shells came off pretty easily which made consuming them hassle-free. On top of that, the shrimp seemed to split at the spine of each piece, which showed how large the shrimp was. Talking on the topic of flavor, the shrimp tasted light while being defined which is a mix that rarely ever happens! The texture itself was a nice gummy bite that seemed to melt like butter. All the while, the presence of the garlic on the shrimp really enhanced the flavor of the seafood and added its own garlic taste to the mouth which made the shrimp taste like it was heavily stir fried (though it probably wasn't). Concluding the shrimp, it was a nice and satisfying bite to eat. But not only were the shrimp a delight, even the rice itself was delicious! Because garlic was added as a topping, that in itself allowed the garlic flavor to extend onto the rice in a good portion. Because of this, each respective item tasted great by themselves and together. Lastly, the lemon curbed the flavor and gave it a nice flare that it wouldn't have otherwise have with just the garlic alone. Though I had mixed feelings in the beginning about Giovanni's, the experience was definitely one I'll remember for a long time. Was the shrimp memorable? Yes! Was it worth it? To me, YES! Would I get it again? 100%. Because of this, I think Giovanni's Shrimp Truck is well deserving of a 5 star rating! I will more than definitely be returning for some more shrimp and to try their other kinds. But if you're coming to the islands looking for a small snack or a full on meal, Giovanni's will definitely not disappoint! Open more locations guys! This is a hit! read more

Ah, the famous Giovanni's shrimp truck! I had every intention of driving up to the North Shore area to visit one of the two famous trucks but then I discovered this location in town inside of H Mart and I opted to save myself the long trek. I'm glad I did because the shrimp didn't live up to the hype for my girlfriend and I.. We both agreed that the shrimp scampi was good, but it tasted like something similar that we are able to get back in Houston. The highlight of the entrée for me was actually the rice. I'm a fan of fluffy rice and this one was definitely up there on my scale of fluffy-ness (might or might not have just made this up on the fly). We also tried the garlic dog on a hot dog bun. Free parking up to hour due to the affiliation with hmart. Easy stop to get some groceries as this is located in the food court on the second floor. Food: everything is on point with garlic sauce and spicy sauce on the side. However, they put very limited garlic / a lot less garlic compare to the food truck in the north shore on the two scoops of rice, and when we approached them asking for more garlic topping / sauce, they declined, we asked if we could pay more for the garlic sauce, they declined as well. Service: Quick, friendly, but very stubborn. Don't see the point of how adding a bit garlic sauce would hurt the business, especially when we offered to pay more. Ambiance: a lot more clean than north shore, but you could still see flies around. But the overall foodcourt is pretty clean. read more

I've tried Giovanni's in North Shore several times and didn't care for it. Thought I'd give it a shot here in town to see if it would satisfy my craving without having to make the drive to Haleiwa. First few bites was ok, then I quickly started to realize it's still not great. If you are a huge Giovanni's fan, then this taste pretty spot on to the truck in North Shore. I'm not a Giovanni's fan so I can't say I'd recommend it. I know there are some die hard Giovanni's fans so that's the perfect spot for you in town. I'll pass. read more

This Giovanni's is located on the second floor food court area of the H-Mart on Keawe Street; there's also ample parking in the attached parking garage that's free if you're in and out within one hour. I've only ever gotten the shrimp scampi because I love that garlicky goodness. Each plate comes with a dozen shrimp, two scoops of rice topped with all that buttery garlic, and a lemon wedge. It's a good amount to share with another person but no judgements here if you want to keep the whole thing to yourself lol. They also have flavors such as the lemon butter and the "no refunds" (hot and spicy; scary!). To all new-comers, yes, the shrimp does come with the shell on. Yes, it does get a little messy but they provide a second plate for the shells and easy disposal. No, I don't believe they offer plates without the shell, but trust me, the shell holds in all the flavor! Came to this Giovanni's location at the food court of the H Mart because I had no intention of waiting more than an hour in line for their shrimp trunk, but wanted to see what the hype was about. We got the garlic shrimp and garlic rice with spicy sauce on the side and shared. Portion was decent for two people. Shrimp is served shell-on but is easy to peel. Flavors were pretty good, but definitely nothing I would stand in line for. The spicy sauce was really tasty and definitely elevated the flavors. Location: second floor food court of the H Mart. There are a bunch of other small restaurants here and when we went just before lunch time on a weekday it was pretty empty. There's lots of seating, but parties were limited to less than 10 when we went due to the pandemic. Bottom line: The food was decent. Like all things covid - there's always tomorrow *shrug* I think that's what happened with majority of my reviews. Lol. I was so excited when I heard that giovannis is coming into town. They were anticipated to open in March or April but covid happened and the opening was delayed! But it finally happened and it eventually opened! In the beginning the line was mostly for the grocery store downstairs, and the food hall was pretty empty, until several days later and it became jam packed full of people! It's located on the second floor of h mart, and you'd need to take a stairwell up, but you will be checked by a worker on the bottom first. No unpaid items can go upstairs. What I like about this location is that there's absolutely no flies and they take credit card! The price for each plate was a little more, but that is to be expected. You save on gas and time going up to the north shore anyway. I always get my usual scampi with a side of hot sauce. It's good, but the shrimp isn't super fresh, but I also know I'm spoiled when it comes to seafood, but I still enjoy it on occasion anyway. I've come here several times. You can dine in if the state allows you to depending on the current rules or you might have to just do take out. I enjoy eating this at home anyway since it gets really messy! read more

Definitely happy it is in town now with ample parking that is validated. Shorter wait times. There are tables you can enjoy your meal at that which are socially distanced. Taste is the same recipe. I've never been able to make it out to the North Shore locations. Either they're always closed on the days I'm actually at North Shore, or they close too early, or we just don't head up. So this was my first time getting to experience Garlic Shrimp. Of course, everyone always raves about this place, and then everyone talks about how Fumi's is better and this place is overhyped. Well, I still haven't tried their most authentic experience yet, but I'll just base my experience off of this. Ordered a half Shrimp Scampi plate and a half Spicy Shrimp Plate. The Shrimp Scampi, while it had a lot of garlic (which I love) and butter, it didn't really taste like much. I was expecting the shrimp to be crunchier and have some of that batter texture, but it seemed it was more just simmered in a garlic butter sauce. I don't normally eat shrimp shells, but I figured I had to for this place. Even looking at the picture now it looks crispier than what I tasted. The Spicy Shrimp plate. Holy hell, I love and can handle spice, but this was super spicy. I ended up having to buy a water just for it. They weren't kidding! I enjoyed it but I suffered the consequences of the heat. Overall it was just meh. I probably wouldn't try this location again. I might give the North Shore location a try one day in the future, but I think I'd rather try Fumi's if I'm gonna be up there. Can you blame me for wanting comfort, predictable hours, & a convenient location?! I love their short & sweet menu. There are three flavors of shrimp & you can order half & half: Scampi which is garlicky, Hot & Spicy which comes with a warning of no refunds, & Lemon/Butter which I was told was plain as hell. If you don't want a dozen shrimp with rice ($16), you can get a half portion for half price. Don't want shrimp at all, ya get a Garlic Dog for $5. That's it, that's the menu (there's a side of mac salad which isn't that great.) Shrimp are headless but with shell-on, split down the back, & deveined. Rice is satisfyingly mushy if you grew up eating rice that way & topped with a deluge of garlic. Plenty of seating when we went Saturday afternoon. Parking in the lot was a little insane. First time trying Giovannis. I haven't tried the food truck in Kahuku, so I'm really glad they open a store in town. Scampi: Super good, there was generous amount of garlic and butter sauce on the shrimp. There were 12 shrimps and two scoops of rice. The shrimps were deveined and easy to peel. Homemade mac salad: Also very good, pack with flavor. Garlic hot dog: The hot dog was good, however there wasn't much of their scampi sauce on it. We can't really taste the sauce on the hotdog that much. For the shrimp plates, you can request for their hot sauce with no additional charge. Overall, very good garlic shrimps. Reasonably priced and convenient. I went during dinner time around 6-7pm and the wait was not bad. The longest I've waited was 15 minutes. read more

Giovanni's Shrimp is now in Honolulu, Hawaii! I was so happy to hear that Giovanni's would be one of the vendors at the Food Hall on the upper floor of H Mart in Kaka'ako. Instead of the long drive to the North Shore, and the flies, the feral chickens, the long lines, and the humidity, this location has air conditioning, a clean environment, good lighting, and is less crowded. I ordered the #1 item on the menu: Shrimp Scampi. Twelve tender, garlicky shrimp came with two scoops of rice. The shrimp were fresh, not over cooked, and delicious! Why not five stars? Mushy rice. Uhg. Maybe they were in a rush to serve many customers? I just don't like mushy rice and I really wanted to eat some with the chopped garlic. So sad... I threw most of the rice away. The main thing is that I got my shrimp and I wore gloves to peel the shells! There's more grip and less mess with gloves! Try it! I'll be back! Note: the plate was covered with another plate. We decided to go to the food court location because the actual food food truck was about 50 minutes from our hotel. We were kinda lost on the way there because this establishment is located on top of Hmart. Luckily when we went there was no line and we got our food really fast. All of my friends raved about how great the food was at Giovannis so I knew it was a must to stop by here. I got the Shrimp Scampi and it was delicious!! 10/10 Their sauce had lots of butter and garlic which went well with the rice. The hot sauce was okay and I actually preferred to eat the shrimp without the hot sauce since there was already a lot of flavor. I would come back to Hawaii just to eat Giovannis. I only started eating seafood in recent years...but I haven't been to the North Shore even longer than that...so I have never tried Giovanni's garlic shrimp until tonight. And man, it was worth the wait! Usually, it takes a good 15 - 30 minutes for my boyfriend and I to decide what to eat for dinner. Tonight was different. As soon as he said that HMart was open, we knew immediately where we were going. Before getting dinner, we decided to browse HMart first. I was surprised; it wasn't as crowded as I was anticipating. I expected there to be a line just to get in and longer lines to pay...but it wasn't bad at all. We just walked in, walked around then headed to the destination - Giovannis. The food court is located on the second floor. There was no line...so we just jumped in and ordered our food. It wasn't too long of a wait (maybe 15 minutes at most) and all the booths have these large monitors to show which order are ready to pick up. As soon as we got home, we opened up the plates and dived in. The shrimp still have their shells on, but they're super easy to peel. The lemon wedge they gave was HUGE! The garlic sauce was amazing. Buttery and garlicky and they gave a lot if it. I'm pretty sure I'll be tasting garlic the next few days, but it worth it. The plate is only $15 for two scoops of rice and about a dozen shrimp.
