So this was our first time here and I got to say the shrimp taste just as good as the original shrimp truck on the north shore. The best thing about this place was there was no long line like at the Haleiwa and north shore one and the atmosphere here was pretty chill. Every time I hear someone say Giovanni's is overrated, it's because they only get the scampi (shrimp with garlic, salt, and pepper). Honestly if that's only what I got I would probably think it also. However, the hot sauce here is FIRE! Definitely adds a delicious kick to what would otherwise be a very buttery dish. The workers here know best! They always recommend that if you're gonna order the hot and spicy, just order a scampi and get the hot sauce on the side. I definitely like it this way as you get to pick and choose how much hot sauce you want or if you wanna change it up to be more plain with no hot sauce. She was not kidding because when my girlfriend and i ate the spicy shrimp our lips and tongues were hotter than lava. The scampi flavor which is their traditional lemon and garlic was by far my favorite. The shrimp here is plump, juicy, and comes with the TAIL ON. The spicy flavor is similar to Tabasco, but with a lingering burning sensation that can't be missed. We were super happy that we randomly stumbled upon this place while exploring the unsuspecting food court above the H Mart. Since we weren't going to have time to visit the real Giovanni's food truck in the North Shore, this was the perfect substitute for it. We ordered the classic garlic shrimp plate and the hot and spicy shrimp plate. The guy warned me that the hot and spicy plate was REALLY spicy, and boy he was not joking! I can usually wolf down a platter of regular shrimp in less than 5 minutes. However, I had to take multiple breaks and gulps of water as I ate the spicy shrimp here. Nevertheless, it was very tasty and spicy as promised. The garlic shrimp is probably the go-to order here. It was really delicious and I loved the generous servings of garlic that they put on the plate. It got very salty and oily (not in a good way). I got roughly 12-13 shrimps, 2 scoops of rice, and a lemon wedge. Their side of hot sauce was spicy!! Be careful! Shrimps were a good size but I also felt like it was a tad bit overcooked? I got the side of Mac salad and thought that was the best part of the meal. My friend absolutely loves the scampi here so I wanted to try the sauce on rice since that is a side option as well as the homemade mac salad. Overall the prices are not bad and the sauce was good, but not amazing. The mac salad was also good. I tried some of the spicy sauce and yes it is very spicy. I wouldn't get it unless you don't want to taste the shrimp at all. They also don't have to go containers so you should plan on eating in unless you want to chance it since they just cover the paper plate with foil for to go. Couldn't really suck the shells since was too salty so I mostly just peeled the shells and ate the shrimp so avoided the salty butter juices on the outside. Rice was soggy and salty because it soaked up the salty juices.. Maybe next time I'll get the lemon/butter hopefully that won't be overly salted.. I've heard a lot about Giovanni's so it was a must try place on my list of places to eat in Hawaii. I came here after i checked into my hotel and by that time I was starving. This Giovanni's is located in the food court in Hmart. There are plenty of tables for you to sit down and eat. The service was quick. The shrimp was *chefs kiss*. It was so flavorful and buttery. I wish the shrimps were a bit on the bigger side because they looked kind of small. The rice was a bit soggy which i didnt really like maybe the rice that day was not that great. The plate of shrimps are pretty filling too maybe because there is a lot of butter. I was so full and almost could not finish it. We stopped into the Hmart location for lunch, luckily there wasn't a line, and the service was pretty quick. I liked the store front, as it seemed clean and organized. They also had a graffiti wall to the left, which customers could sign. I am a big fan of Garlic Shrimp, but I have to say theirs is not my favorite. I got the Shrimp Scampi Plate, and was truly underwhelmed by the flavor, and lack of sauce on the shrimp. Being a little more generous with the sauce could definitely help. Same menu/prices: $15 for choice of Shrimp Scampi, Hot and Spicy, or Lemon Butter. Also, a Garlic Dog ($5) as well as Mac Salad ($2.50) on the menu if you're feeling frisky. It's been so long since I've been to the truck that I couldn't articulately compare the quality, but was still sooo happy I could satisfy my garlic shrimp craving on this last trip back home to Hawaii. Located on the upper floor of H-Mart. The first time I went I didn't know there was a garage parking dedicated to H-mart but the second time I went I finally found it on a whim. Had this twice in a row ! The first time I got the half plate of scampi and half plate of hot and spicy. Drove around Hawaii area after my Hawaiian airlines plane landed, and quickly searched for a nice dine-in cafe/restaurant. The islands popular Yelp search guided me to H Mart Kaka'ako, on the second floor. I knew that I had to try this place because it was on a YouTube tour guide that I watched, and I jotted down "must-try" restaurants and spots in Honolulu Hawaii for my vacation! They also have a good truck, and because I was too far away from it, I went with this local area, which was also very convenient from the airport. That was a plus! I just knew that all of the seafood would be an excellent choice on this island. The shrimp is always a fav for me, so I ordered a plate of Hot & Spicy Shrimp with rice/Lemon butter - Shrimp Scampi and rice, and a side of macaroni salad. YUMMMMY! The hot & spicy shrimp was garlicky yet veryyy spicy. I love spice and garlic together. The macaroni salad was the perfect balance to tone down the spice. It all went very well together. The lemon butter shrimp scampi was also powerfully packed with that authentic island flavor. I asked for extra garlic for this plate. The gravy on top of the rice was superb. Each plate was $15 each and the side of macaroni salad was $2.50, which was homemade. I loved their prices because they were very reasonable and fulfilling! You have to suck the flavor of the shrimp shell, then you have to peel the shrimp and by the time you get to the shrimp, the tiny garlic flavor is just a distant memory. We had a lot of people recommend Giovanni's to us before we traveled to the island so we had it on our list of potential places to check out when we went up to North Shore. I am so happy we did! This was one of my favorite meals we had on the island. So much butter, garlic, lemon, shrimp and flavor in each dish, including rice topped with garlic and butter - yum! For all you Giovanni shrimp truck virgins, get the scampi with a side of the hot sauce. I'm not a fan of spicy but several others swear by the stuff. The shrimp is cooked perfectly drenched in butter and fried garlic with two nice sized scoops of rice. I'm salavating now just thinking of it. Very generous portions. Also don't get freaked out that you have to peel the shrimp yourself. The shrimps are easy to peel and so worth the effort. That's part of the experience. Covid has taught you not to lick your fingers but make sure all the goodness of the butter and garlic are not wasted on your fingers.
