Tried Kahuku Shrimp Company at Ala Moana as our first meal right after landing--honestly the perfect welcome to Hawaii. We've been to their original spot in Kahuku, so seeing it at the mall made us excited. Ordered the hot and spicy garlic shrimp and it came out hot, saucy, and super flavorful--garlic butter soaking into the rice, with that slight kick that makes you keep going back for another bite. Staff were friendly and service was smooth, which made it even better after a long flight. If you don't have a car to drive all the way up to the North Shore, this is honestly the next best thing. Same quality, same flavor--just way more convenient. And if you're staying in the Waikiki area, it's an easy trip to Ala Moana Center--you can Uber, take the bus, or even walk if you're up for it.

Inside makai foodcourt, the original butter garlic shrimp (shell on) was good but nothing special, came with shredded lettuce & white rice which was drenched with butter. $22 for a few shrimps seemed excessive.

We've had Fumi's up in the North Shore before, so we were excited to see a location inside the Ala Moana Mall food court. My husband decided to be adventurous and ordered the orange shrimp plate. Unfortunately, the sauce had a slightly artificial orange peel flavor. I appreciate that they're offering different varieties at the mall location, but it might be safer to stick with their original garlic shrimp. For some reason, the rice was also a bit mushy, which took away from the overall meal. Still, it's a nice option to have in the mall when you're looking for something quick and satisfying.

Located in the makai food court on ground level of Ala Moana mall, Fumi's replaced the former Sing Ma Tei (which was devastating to find out.) so I really hope this place would be amazing. I'd say it's quite decent for garlic shrimp, but I still prefer other places a bit more. It might be a personal taste. I think the shrimp could be a bit more crunchy and the garlic sauce could have more minced garlic for some texture. It was decent but I wouldn't say amazing. The rice was also mushy. I mean that's also a big part of the dish. If the rice failed, the whole dish suffered. I still have yet to find something amazing from this food court honestly that I wanna go there just for that...

Oooh north shore shrimp in the Ala Moana Food Court! Wanted to try this place out since we haven't tried it in Kahuku, so was looking forward to getting some North Shore shrimp without driving there! Ordered the Garlic Butter Shrimp plate for $19.95. Came with 8 large shrimps, rice with garlic sauce, salad with Asian dressing, and a slice of pineapple. Service was fast. The garlic sauce was SO salty & just tasted like butter. Most of the shrimp except two were overcooked & rubbery. The shell was also hard to peel. The salad with Asian dressing was really good and refreshing. Pineapple slice was sweet. I hope they improve the cook on the shrimp and flavor of the sauce. I will give them another try in the future because I would love to have north shore shrimp so convenient to get!

Update: Tried this location again and this time, I got the peeled version! I didn't really look at the menu for the peeled version part but it does have an additional charge. If you're like me, you can just politely ask for the peeled version of any of the shrimp plates you prefer. Service was fast, this was during dinner time. The staff greeted me warmly. The food was delicious, garlicky and well-seasoned! They said it comes with a side salad but I didn't really had a salad with mine, just shredded cabbage I think (not a big deal since I don't really eat salad that much lol). The food court gets packed easily, but there are places at the mall where you can sit and eat. All in all, I really enjoyed it better than last time.

This is our 2nd time here! They're located in the Makai Market Food Court near Jamba Juice in the old SingMaTei location. We ordered the original garlic butter shrimp plate and their lilikoi lemon shrimp ala carte with the sauce on the side. Both are so so good! The lilikoi lemon shrimp comes cold so it's refreshing to eat! They provide gloves and wet wipes for you. If it's not on the counter, just ask them. Also, if you're not a fan of peeling shrimp, for a few dollars extra, you can pay shrimp that is already peeled.

They now have some cheaper options! Instead of getting the $20 shrimp plate (shrimp, rice, cabbage, and a fruit slice! you can get just shrimp w rice (same amount of shrimp, 8 pieces) for $16.95. you can mix and match 2 types of shrimp, Or you can just get shrimp only for $13.50. Yay for cheaper options. If you're a local ask for the Kamaaina discount for 10% off. You also pay less with cash than credit card. My favorites is garlic shrimp and spicy garlic shrimp.

One of the few good places to eat at Ala Moana food court. Butter garlic is solid, as is salt and pepper. Lilikoi lemon is interesting but served cold if that makes a difference. I like to get all cabbage no rice. Don't really need dressing as the shrimp juice is sufficient. Bring cash to avoid the extra charge and give them your phone number to rack up points

So many food options in this food court. I finally decided on brisket and hubby tried this spot. I snagged a bit to try. Shrimp was just ok. Not very flavorful compared to Giovanni's.

I haven't ate at Fumi's in Kahuku for years, so I can't compare the two. I love garlic shrimp so I gave it a try. The location is easy to access being in the main Ala Moana food court, and the food came out pretty fast. The service was also good. I ordered the hot and spicy plate with salad and rice. Overall the plate was tasty if you cannot make the trip out to North Shore for the experience. Spicy shrimp: I usually don't think of the rice when I'm eating, but it was very mushy! Hopefully it was just an off day because that's a deal breaker. The shrimp itself had good flavor, although a tad overcooked. I enjoyed the spicy garlic sauce because it wasn't vinegary/sour like how Giovanni's is (which if you want to compare, Giovanni's is horrible all around in my opinion...Fumi's is much better). There was plenty of garlic and sauce on top of the shrimp and rice. The salad was shaved cabbage which I enjoyed. The pineapple was cut thin, but it was sweet. I think they can afford to cut it a little thicker...overall if you're craving garlic shrimp this will definitely do the job!

Fumi's! Usually such a far drive away, they now have a new location in the Ala moana food court. So convenient when you're craving garlic shrimp but don't want to drive to the other side of the island. Overall, the shrimp was okay. The meat was super stuck to the shell so it was difficult to eat. The garlic topping was also very salty. I did enjoy it, but it overall wasn't the greatest plate I've had. I would get it again, especially because of the convenience, but it's not my first choice if I don't mind driving.

They're now located in the Ala Moana shopping center food court. The garlic shrimp is so good! My favorite even when I had to drive to Kahuku to get it. Service good and food came out pretty fast.

The standouts were the crispy pork belly with its watercress tomato onion salad, the ume tomato on whipped tofu, and spicy miso eggplant. The mushroom jook is so comforting, hearty and full of flavor served with chicken confit and a soy egg. The two desserts offered are both winners. The mochi churro with kinako and anglaise is crispy, light and creamy. The pineapple orange pudding is so cool and refreshing. And, 100% of dessert sales go to the culinary team! What?! The menu has changed to a more tapa style. We went with our two young children & they were very accommodating. We ordered a bunch of stuff but most notable was the Ensalada Salad, Croquette Cordero, Taco Raisu, Karaage Pollo, and for dessert, the Piña Borracha. We ordered some pork and steak skewers. These were ok, I would skip these next time. A little burnt. My favorite was the Ensalada Salad. The crab was sweet and the salsa opaca was so refreshing with the apple foam. Was told to smash the crisp on top and combine it with everything and that took it to another level! So good that we ordered another one. The price of this was so affordable too! The Croquette Cordero was like a mini curry ball with chimuchirri sauce. A little heavy but if you love curry, this is for you! The Taco Raisu surprised us. The taco meat was so flavorful!! Even though we were stuffed, we kept going back for more. It's like a deconstructed taco & you use the lettuce as a wrap. The Karaage Pollo came with a Cucumber Escabeche. It was so tangy and refreshing, which perfectly cuts through the rich, savory oiliness of the fried chicken. We got the Piña Borracha for dessert and that had a coconut cake, coconut lime mousse, banana lilikoi curd, and pasted pineapple on top. Amazing!! Great way to end the night. Loved the clean and modern decor inside the restaurant. As we sat down, our water cups were quickly filled and the only few questions they had for us was whether we wanted the wine pairing and we wanted to add the caviar toast and shaved truffles. We opted for the wine pairing, caviar toast and truffles. The meal was fantastic from start to finish. The most notable dishes for me were the ahi and caviar toast, cold corn soup, the lobster and the dessert. Sadly the portion of the toast here was about 1/2 the size of what we had at the cafe and unfortunately they didn't have uni for the night (maybe don't go on a Tuesday). Service was fantastic but they did have a few hiccups which were tolerable as the food was amazing. The wine pairing was also good and paired well with the dishes. As we are currently planning our trip back later this year, we will definitely head back to either the cafe (if the remodel is completed) or back to the counter for another meal. Ramen, according to the server, was the most popular thing on the menu, so how likely could it get messed up? Tonkatsu: Rich, but lacked any salt or had very little. We requested some salt and that instantly made the ramen better. The noodles had enough salt to carry it, but the broth was not great. It tasted like the broth was watered down or reconstituted, however no seasoning was added to re-adjust the broth. Broth: Had little salt and lacked punch, umami, and was brown instead of white. Noodles: Had enough salt to taste good, but was slightly overcooked Pork: Extremely bland. Tasted like zero salt was added during cooking. Toppings: Greatly lacking in toppings Tsukemen: The Tsukemen had a lot of the same issues. Now being a dipping ramen, the broth should be even richer and more flavorful than any normal ramen. Tsukemen -- no matter where you have it in Japan, should be richer and saltier than most broths, but the broth here was severely lacking. For $26 a bowl this was worse than your DIY frozen ramen packs. Now I'm not asking for Japan-level of ramen mastery here, this is after all, just a tourist spot -- but if your Tonkatsu is the best selling item, you have to step it up. Our server did mention that some people complained about the amount of salt in ramen, so they adjusted it. But dare I say, instead of diluting the normal salt/seasoning amount for everyone, couldn't you just add a separate, flavor-light version for people inexperienced with ramen, instead of diluting the original for everyone else? If you're reading this Mr. Morimoto, I would highly encourage you to fly here and order the ramen. I think you and I would share the same opinions. P.S. I've also been to your other Morimoto spots and it was not this bad.
