Yum! Yum! Yum! We ordered two entrees and a small pizza to go! We arrived around 5:30pm and were seated right away. Our order came fresh and hot! I ordered the spaghetti with meat sauce and it was delightfully flavorful! My boyfriend ordered lasagna and his was delicious too! I purchased a pizza from Giovanni's in Beaverton and got food poisoning. This was very bad. I was throwing up, the runs and my stomach felt like a volcano inside. I went back to Giovanni's and asked for my money back. Now mind you I am a 20+ year customer of Giovanni's. I just wanted my money back. Well the manager refused to give me my money back. He said I was scamming him. This was very discouraging due to the fact I was a long time customer and they would not even take care of me. Summary: good service (at least at a slow time), bland food. Comfortable booths, pleasant waitstaff, but...flavor-challenged, and not in my view a remarkable value. Dull Alfredo sauce is such a sad thing, and that was the case here. The pizza didn't have much flavor either, and I couldn't detect any garlic in the garlic bread. I'd almost say the best part was the house salads we started with, and that is not a good sign. It's not that it's bad; it's that there are much better values. We were hoping this would capture some of the essence of a place we loved in Flagstaff. It fit many of the attributes: family owned, small location, local type of joint. But that's where the similarities end. The food was average. It was enjoyable, the quality was acceptable, but there was something that just didn't sit right. The alfredo sauce on Linda's fettuccine was, well, pasty. Not glue thick consistency, but pasty nonetheless. My manicotti/canelnoi was decent, but not spectacular. Unfortunately, they had a chance to really impress, but it turned out to be nothing more than a local Olive Garden-style competitor, complete with immature young who seemed more concerned with the latest social happenings than actual service. Our waiter was quick and efficient, but the banter arising from the wait station took the luster off of that. While the food was good, it was not as good as they were charging for it. For cryin' out loud, you're 3 blocks from the Farmer's Market! You wold think there could be a little more fresh added to the menu. Except they don't and rely on the same cookie-cutter cuisine that they have for years. I really wanted it to be great. I did. We've been looking for a great local Italian joint, and while this satisfies the local aspect, the rest is left to chance. Will I go back? Odds are good, if nothing less than to try the pizza. I have been going for a few years. I love the small family and friends atmosphere. The flavors are Amazing and I love the thin crust. The whole menu looks yummy but I never make it past the pizza. We were looking for a place for dinner while in Beaverton and searched for restaurants nearby on my Yelp app. OK, it suggested Giovanni's, and we were actually parked right across the street from there, so that was an easy decision. We saw lots of people coming and going, so we figured it must be a popular place. Giovanni's is an old school Italian restaurant with lots of pasta dishes, traditional Italian favorites, and pizza on the menu. I ordered porcini mushroom ravioli with tomato mushroom cream sauce, and also added a sausage to it. I don't often see mushroom ravioli at many restaurants so I was looking forward to it. Garlic bread and choice of soup or salad comes with dinner. I chose the minestrone soup, which tasted OK but was not anything special. The mushroom ravioli was a nice sized portion and was pretty good. . .except that I wish the sauce was "less tomatoey" and "more mushroomy". (I have had mushroom ravioli at another Italian restaurant in which the sauce was a creamy white sauce and was totally tasting like mushrooms which I liked much better.) Service was very good. . .our waitress was friendly and attentive. Overall, Giovanni's is about average among Italian restaurants. read more

The food is fine. The place had just opened and was entirely empty. They sat us in a a booth. Another party came in and the staff sat them right next to us, right over our shoulder. Again, the place is empty except for us and one other party but the staff decided to crowd us together and have us listen to each others conversations. My husband and I had dinner at Giovanni's and thought it was a welcome change from chain restaurants! The food didn't have that processed taste that Olive Garden has and instead the food tasted very fresh and home made. We thought we got a lot of value for our money and the service was very good too! I do like Giovanni's. They seemed like a bit of an alternate universe version of DiNicola's...but without the awesome never-updated 70's vibe. After talking to one of the waitresses, apparently the two were in cahoots at one point. Either way, stick to the tried and true: Spaghetti with meat sauce, and while the meatballs are awesome and the sausage is top notch...rather than 2 of one of those, 1 of each is WAY better! Ever since my family moved to Oregon, we have been looking for a locally owned, family Italian restaurant. We were so happy to find Giovanni's. It's comfortable, casual, great service and amazing food. It's hard for me to deviate from the spaghetti with meat sauce and meatballs but, I've tried other dishes including the Stromboli and the lasagna and was equally impressed. tried this place on a recommendation from a classmate. they seated us super quickly on a busy friday night, and the service was amazing. the food was a bit lackluster. we started with cheesy garlic bread, but it was not as decadent as i expected. i ordered the baked tortellini- the cheese layer on top was great but the sauce and pasta itself left much to be desired in terms of flavor. my friend ordered the chicken giovanni and lasagna- the chicken tasted a bit off and was not seasoned. the highlight was the chicken mushroom artichoke taken to go- again, the chicken wasn't the best but everything else was perfect! in the future, we will probably still go to bugatti's. read more

Authentic homestyle Italian food!! Comparable to Nona Emilia's, also located in Beaverton, OR. The meat sauce is excellent, and the gnocchi is prepared properly. Salads are fresh.
