TLDR: good, but nothing that exceptional (maybe except for the mozzarella making). Ate here because I was staying at the emery, not sure I would have/ will otherwise. The ambience is very nice and modern, with a nice bar attached to it. We started out with the mozzarella and watched the guy make it from scratch. It was pretty cool and the cheese was decent. Not the best, but all things considered, it was good. I then shared the black kale salad and ordered my own fish. The black kale salad came with a lot of cheese and was delicious! Giulia is known for the mozzarella. It absolutely did not disappoint, highly recommend the performance. It comes with the platter :) Simplistic menu. Food was a little greasy. My veal was pooling a little. I was also a little uncomfortable on the stools, couldn't figure out how to keep my feet. That was my biggest call out. Service was great. Every element felt like you were at dinner and a show! We don't drink so we ordered the most fantastic mocktails- 'The Essence of Verdigis' and 'From Nostalgia Springs of Wellness'. These drinks were phenomenal! SO- You absolutely must start off with mozzarella made right at your table, you learn about the origin, the sciences and ingredients while your mouth waters. At the first bite my eyes watered because it was so good! Next, the Napoli pizza- tomato, burrata and basil- A flavor burst from heaven! Main courses- the Agnolotti, which was perfectly salted and filling. Then the Carbonara, a Parmesan spaghetti that expanded my tummy width and left me not caring one bit These three meals, the mozzarella and the mocktails were to die for. Party of 3 girls- The service was 3/10. The drinks were 2/10, we got dirty Martini's and they were absolutely horrible. Worst I've ever had in my life. The Ceaser salad was disgusting. Would probably rate a 2/10. We split the chicken parm and it was actually okay. That was a 7/10 and we also split the ricotta gnocchi and hated it. 2/10. Our bill was wayyyy over priced for bad food, bad service and bad drinks. I do not recommend this establishment. We had a really good experience. Three of us shared a bottle of wine and a series of plates. The wine (Montefalco Rosso 2017) was the recommendation of our server and she nailed it. We started with the Napoli pizza. It was very tasty. Had better but have had a LOT worse elsewhere. The Caesar salad was excellent as were the Suppli (risotto balls). Lovely date night atmosphere with high ceilings and plenty of spots for good IG photos. The pizza was amazing one of the best I've had actually. I was less a fan of the chicken parm but it was still decent. Also there is no valet and parking was less than easy. So impressed by Giulia! Perfect for special occasions, intimate dates, or nice business dinners. Grab a drink at the bar before or after- they have great cocktails. Our server was so attentive, fun, and helpful. Our favorite dishes were the Cacio e Pepe and the burrata, but everything was fabulous. It was good but the brusselkraut was extremely salty, and that was the only negative aspect. We will for sure come back and try other things on the menu like pasta. Amazing location, very visually beautiful. The service is relatively good, though somewhat forgetful and not too prompt. The food was very good but tiny portions that incentivize you to pay more and get more things (an obnoxious practice). Came in for my birthday and I am beyond disappointed. It was empty and my group (2 black people 1 white) were sat in the back next to the kitchen line. I've been a bartender for 8 years- this is an insult. There was at maximum 1 other table and they forgot my friends soda. My whiskey sour was served in 2 different glasses, one significantly smaller than the other. My birthday was not even acknowledged. Our server also had an attitude when asked to switch an undercooked shrimp pasta. Serving sizes were small and the waiter didn't know what the well tequila is. Cute place tho! read more

The carbonara came out warm because if it was heated too much the egg would have scrambled so don't expect it to come out hot. While staying at the Emery I went to happy hour--I highly recommend going during happy hour. The food and drinks are half the price of any other time, and it's the same size portions as lunch/dinner. The bartenders were friendly and I didn't have to fight to make an order.. you know when you're trying to get your drinks in before the end of happy hour :) But I tried the black kale salad & napoli pizza, both tasty. Its been about a week since I ate here and I have to confess I'm still thinking (and drooling) about this place. Oh my! Seriously everything was so delicious! We ordered a couple appetizers & for my main I ordered the pepper pasta. I wasn't expecting it to be a big deal since its just pasta, cheese & pepper but man was I wrong! Possibly one of the best pasta dishes I've ever had. The way they layered the heat of the pepper was pure perfection & I was thinking how did they do that?! The space is stunning! From walking in from valet, thru the bar and to the dining area and kitchen...a treat for the eyes! The table-side pulled mozzarella was wonderful to see! Very fun and informative gentleman provided that entertainment. The first pasta dish was the pepper one (I Loooooove me some pepper!) and it was good (better at Hyacinth) but a bit too chewy and too saucy. It was trying a little too hard but I still ate my half of the share on that. Next was the chicken. Eh. Trying way too hard on that also with what, 8 ingredients on the plate? I didn't finish mine nor did my friend when she kept biting into seeds from the citrus served on the plate. The broccoli rabbi train-wreck was highly recommended but we both hated it. Some odd sauce on it and chewy stringy overcooked veggie. The other pasta dish was the ricotta stuffed dumplings ("about the size of ping pong balls") which were good but after a while the taste got boring. After being blown away by the ambiance I was disappointed the meal wasn't the same wow factor. I would totally come back to the bar and have apps and try to get the table side mozz! read more

I came here for lunch with two companions. My Italian mother in law ordered the pizza and really liked it, which is saying a lot. She likes her wood-fired pizza. It had a nice bubbly, crispy, chewy crust and was topped with the appropriate amount of sauce and fresh mozzarella. If you're Italian, that means the crust is not sagging under the weight of gobs of sauce and heaps of gluey cheese. My health-conscious Russian friend ordered the avocado sandwich minus meat. The waiter cheerfully accommodated his request. I didn't get a taste of the sandwich, but since my health-conscious friend didn't eat the fries that came with it, I got to sample a few. They were out of this world! Crispy outside, potato-y inside, seasoned with garlic and rosemary. I would have eaten every one of them except I was being polite. Next time I'll order some for myself. I had the cacio e pepe (pecorino and pepper spaghetti.) I thought the pasta was perfectly al dente but MIL said it was a tiny bit too soft for her taste. I loved it but it was REALLY peppery. Just stayed here at the newly renovated Emery Hotel. Very nice. I travel every week so tend to eat at the hotel restaurants out of convenience. I too will preface my review with I know they're new so I'll go easier then I normally would. First off, the food was amazing. The fresh mozzarella with tomatoes was the best I've had. The veal, very tender and perfect size. Now, here's where they need to get a clue. I asked for hot pepper flakes and they charged me a dollar. Really, at an Italian restaurant that also serves pizza? Ok. Next, I had all these wonderful juices of olive oil and balsamic on my plate after eating the mozzarella. Crazy me I asked for some bread to mop it up... wait for it... they wanted $6 for bread. Again, really. At an Italian restaurant??? Luckily my waitress went to bat and scored a smaller portion for a dollar. And lastly, yes the veal chop was amazing as it should be for $45...but it came with ZERO sides. Not even a sprig of parsley! Just the piece of meat. Not sure if you had to order everything À la cart or not but it wasn't explained to me regardless. So, they would have gotten 5 stars if it weren't for these VERY strange decisions. Come on folks, I drop $100 for one drink, mozzarella and some tomatoes, and a veal chop and you don't think you could spare some bread and some hot pepper flakes, and a few veggies on the side??? Here's the gist: -beautiful environment -great drinks -unique offerings and experience -options for gluten free/vegetarian -second best meal I have ever had -decent price for quality of food We spent over an hour looking for a restaurant in Downtown Minneapolis and nothing was sparking our interest: a lot of the same old, and most of it overpriced. We finally set our sights on Giulia and it wasn't a mistake: Giulia offers a unique experience and cuisine that gives you the most bang for your buck in this area. First of all, the environment is absolutely stunning and chic - highly recommend for date night or the artsy type. Drinks weren't overpriced and were great. The food is outstanding, Giulia served me the best meal I have ever eaten outside of a Michelin star restaurant. We wanted to try a few things so we ordered the handmade mozzarella (nero style), charcuterie board, and the eggplant. This was perfect for us as I am gluten free - it was fun to share, didn't make me sick, and was definitely filling enough. It was also decently priced (we would've paid more for two meals at a nearby restaurant for sure). They also offer delicious-sounding pasta and entrees as well. The mozzarella alone warrants a visit to Giulia. Service is great here, and the handmade mozzarella is a symbol of that: a cook comes to your table and teaches you how to make mozzarella, finally serving the end product to you fresh and so so so delicious. The roasted eggplant was also splendid. The eggplant was so perfectly cooked through, I was amazed. The mint and creme fraiche were perfect touches on this amazing dish. The charcuterie board was equally exciting and offered unique and adventurous fare for diners (loved the pickled beetroot the most, but also pickled pepperdew, fresh focaccia, etc).
