Mozzarella was great but I wonder if they've changed the menu since filming the video posted on the StarTrib website? That video shows a heaping plate of accompaniments while we were given the choice of one of the (4) listed. We didn't get the tableside treatment or see anyone else receive it. And $16 for a (albeit AMAZING) hunk of Moz and a sliced tomato and two leaves of basil was a bit underwhelming. The space is beautiful and I suspect they'll get their legs under them. I wanted to like it here, I was really excited to try out their menu. Online they posted their Valentines pre fix menu was also available vegetarian. That was not the case. If I would have taken the option where they took out all of the meat, it would have left me with some sad pasta and some cheese. Because I occasionally eat pescatarian, I chose that option but was disappointed. We arrived at 6 pm, ordered a bottle of Pellegrino and put in our orders. Shortly after we received our cheese and meat board. We sat there with that appetizer until 8 pm, when we finally had someone look at us rather than avoiding us. Because this was a prefix meal, everyone had the same two options for their courses. We were the first people to arrive and after two hours, watching others devour their third entree, I was hungry and really frustrated. When the food runner brought our food she was not apologetic at all and downright rude. I asked if the next course would be another 2 hours and she scoffed at me and rolled her eyes, sarcastically repeating what I said. I then explained yes, we arrived at 6 and now at 8, we were receiving our first Course. It was really downhill from there, my fish was lukewarm and they did not check on us again. When we received our check there was no acknowledgment or apology. We left the restaurant at 9:45 pm. I am so disappointed in their service and the food was great dor some courses, despite the incorrect information posted on their website about vegetarian options. I came here for my birthday and I checked the menu out online. The prices were high, but I thought if the food was phenomenal it would be with it. I got the pork Milanese and it was juicy but lacked flavor. The arugula and polenta carried the dish. We enjoyed the meatball appetizer. The sauce was delicious. Giulia had a fun vibe with high ceilings and tall, large shelving decorated with plants and old kitchenware. It was certainly a hip crowd. The table side fresh made mozzarella with a tutorial was fun. We had that with the olive tapenade, which was delicious. The agnolotti with venison sugo was perfectly lush cooked and the filling had layers of flavor. It was not gamy at all. My reason for 4 stars is simply because this restaurant is at a higher than expected price point given the food and ambience. read more

The customer is always right, but not here. We arrived at 4:10, 5 mins before the scheduled time. With a confirmation from their app, I approach the host. He tells me I am not on the list. After a huddle with the hostess, they decide to assign me a table in an empty restaurant. Only 2 of about 18 tables are taken. I get the worst table, the one against the column in the middle of the room. Not all is bad, because this strategic move guarantees that all parties arriving after us will get a better spot. All goes downhill from here. We get the menus and decide on the Crudo Salmon appetizer, the Tomato Salad, and a couple of pasta dishes. A few minutes later, our waiter comes back to tell us-"we are out of salmon, tomato, and steak." With 2 strikes against us, we adjust our order. A few minutes later, our waiter comes back and informs us that we are too early for dinner. "Our dinner service begins at 5:00." He then takes our menus away and gives us lunch menus. Now we are limited to appetizers, a few salads, and a selection of pizzas. Strike 3! But I am not out. I cannot convince my wife to walk out and find another restaurant in 32o degree weather. So I implore to the waiter to let us order from the dinner menu. After all we are less than 30 minutes from 5:00. "No sir, the kitchen staff needs time to prep for the dinner service." My family and I went to Giulia for New Year's Eve to try it out and I feel like eating your way through a 6 course prix-fixe menu will really tell you a lot about a place. The restaurant itself looks really great - it's in a big open area near the lobby of the Embry hotel. The ceilings are extremely high and the décor is very open and classy. I really loved the look and how they made use of the space. The service was great too - the waiters were friendly and happy to help with questions about the menu. Our overall experience with the food was good, but there were definite highs and lows throughout the courses. My blanket statement is that the chefs are talented, but there are things on the menu that could use some tweaks. The first plate was a salad plate - it had tender lettuce, onions, and delicious croutons, and a half a shrimp in its shell served cold. The croutons and the dressing on the lettuce were tasty, but there was a red pepper sauce that encompassed the bowl that I wasn't a fan of that was hard to avoid eating. The shrimp itself was nicely cooked, but I think I was slightly unfortunate in that I had gotten a shrimp with a few smaller, loose shell pieces that fell into the salad that needed to be pulled out of my mouth. It was a nice salad and the components that I liked were good enough that I was excited for the rest of the meal. The second plate had duck breast, polenta with a bit of runny foie gras on top, a nut topping, and a TINY bit of what seemed to be cranberry. This duck was cooked PERFECTLY! I loved this plate. The polenta on it's own was slightly bland, but once you mixed the foie gras in, it was rich and made it so nice flavorful. The nutty topping was salty and wonderful, and the only thing I would have changed would be to include more of the fruit. The one or two bites it made it on (because there wasn't much) were so bright and lovely. It was very tasty. The third plate was ABSOLUTELY the best plate, hands down, voted by the whole table. The plate had crab served cold smothered with finely chopped shallot and celery (or celeriac?) and a lemon wedge, a scrumptious tartar-like sauce, and dill powder. When the plate came and the wonderful dill aroma arrived, I got SO excited. The plate tasted fresh and light, and was just such a nice break after having the rich and decadent shrimp. The bites with the most celery and shallot were the best - I could literally eat 10 plates of this. JUST lovely. The next plate was one of the weakest plates in our whole tables opinion - potato gnocchi with lobster. This was a dish that, although prepared well, just wasn't delicious. Nobody at the table ate much of it which was sad because the lobster was so well prepared. The dish was composed of well-cooked gnocchi in a lobster broth, a bit of cheese, and topped with shredded lobster and a claw. The dish looked nice and I get the concept, but it didn't taste great and was a waste of such nice ingredients. The next dish was a meat entrée with shaved black truffles, celeriac puree and a tasty sauce. The restaurant was kind enough to let me sub the meat for mushrooms as I do not eat mammals. My family said the meat was cooked perfectly - my mushrooms were the same. The puree had a fresh taste, but it was pretty one-note and way too much of it. I'm sure that they did that because they wanted to counteract the richness of the truffles, but they weren't really great together in my opinion and I ate the bites separately. I think the truffles were an okay choice for this dish, but I don't think they necessarily shined. The brown sauce on the plate was very tasty, and my husband expressed that he wished there was more of it. All-in-all a good dish, but could use some tweaks. The other weakest plate (and my biggest disappointment as a lover of sweets) was the sixth and final plate - dessert. There was a layered chocolate square which was described as "mousse" with a bit of gold flake, and a dark chocolate ice cream. The ice cream was nice, but the "mousse" was not. It was frozen and had a weird texture of like dehydrated ice cream. The flavor itself wasn't much to write home about either and I barely ate any. I ate most of the ice cream and ate the gold off the top (because, why waste it?), but left most of the rest of the dessert on the plate. It's just wasn't tasty, fun, or interesting. Even though the meal ended on a low, it was very fun sampling what they had to offer. I would go back, but I would be a bit picky in the things that I ordered. I would absolutely get either the duck or the crab again if it was something that was on the menu. Go try it out! read more

When we arrived the restaurant the hostess was about to seat us and told us they were short-staffed and was only serving Apps and pizza no pasta or main courses. Waiting for us to get there (spent $20 on Uber) before telling us is completely unacceptable. We cancelled our reservation at our favorite Italian restaurant to try something new and then not being able to get back into that restaurant was extremely disappointing. I completely understand labor shortages. However the right thing to do is to call your customers with reservations and notify them. read more

I had a great dining experience at the bar. I was undecided on wine and the bartender let me taste a few glasses before selecting one. The service was attentive and friendly. I had the heirloom tomato salad and it was delicious. Really interesting flavors and a beautiful plate. It was also big - a much bigger portion than I expected. I also had the prawns and cavatelli and it was also interesting and wonderful. I would absolutely order both dishes again. The ambiance is contemporary and comfortable. Went here with some colleagues for dinner. We started with the tomato salad and charcuterie board. Tomato salad was really creative--involved strawberries. I wasn't super into it but I give them kudos. The cheese on it was really delightful. The charcuterie board rocked! Would 100% order again. Again, stellar cheese. I enjoyed the focaccia on it also. For an entree, I got the agnolotti. The pasta itself seemed well-made and the sauce was flavorful. The meat filling was rather dry though--missed opportunity. I'd go here again and try another pasta dish for sure. The service was excellent--quiet but attentive. The vibe inside is cool, moody but warm. I did think the setup of the tables was odd. We got the clam pizza and carbonara. Both were okay, but salty. If you can't have a lot of sodium, I would not recommend. The Carbonara came out cold and we had to reorder, which the second time was not much warmer. However, I have to applaud on the excellent service. Since our pasta came out cold, she immediately said she would have them cook us a new one and gave us a refund. She also later explained why they were not able to make the Carbonara too hot. A dream of an evening. Very modern, sleek yet warm & cozy interior, moody tones of black and walnut, and communal gathering spaces set the tone for an intimate evening. The extremely capable wait staff was on point throughout the entire dining experience. We began with the table-side hand-pulled mozzarella which was incredible. The menu features a great balance of meat/pasta dishes, pizzas, and vegetables. Don't skip dessert - the gelato and blueberry tart was the perfect ratio of pastry to oozy fruit goodness to refreshing gelato. I'm already planning my next trip back to Giulia! P.S. I've been here twice and both times were excellent. The negronis on tap are the best I've had in the Twin Cities. The table side mozzarella is delicious and perfectly salted. The clam pizza has a lemon zest and a wonderful garlic/pesto flavor, with no "seafood" aftertaste. The Malitagliati was very good no complaints with that one dish. The Appetizers was good the meatballs stole the show. The pizza was good enjoyed the crust prefer young Joni. After reading about them making mozzarella table side, my husband and I have been wanting to try Giulia. We ordered the super mozzarella which included all of the toppings for the cheese. We loved it and enjoyed talking to the chef when he came to make the cheese. We enjoyed some negroni cocktails. Even the one on tap was great. For dinner I had the agnolotti which was outstanding. Almost as good as what you get in Italy and definitely the best I've had in the US. My husband had the veal milanese which was good but not great considering the price tag. The polenta was also outstanding. Our server Aaron was attentive to all of our needs. We look forward to going back! read more
