I normally do not leave negative Yelp reviews. But, I know how expensive nails are to get so I wanted to give full transparency on my experience here. I have been going to Gloss for about a year now. Unfortunately, the past few times I have gone have been quite disappointing. I saw Tracy the last time I was there. I came out with crooked nails, poor shaping, and the design I showed her a picture of was very rushed. I also asked several times to see a different color which she would not bring. I was in and out of my Gel X appointment in 30 minutes. My total was $85. One of my nails had popped off a day later. When I came back in to have my nails fixed a day later, they had Tracy repair my nails. I understand they want to have the same technician correct their mistakes, but I had asked several times to see one of the girls I have previously had to fix my nails because I trust their work. That was not an option. It is always extremely loud and overcrowded. They answer the phone on speaker with full volume. I don't know if it is because they have grown in their popularity, but it is not the same experience as it used to be. If you do go, I recommend Tanya or Hanna. Therese at the front desk is very nice. Otherwise, I recommend Pure Nail Spa on Fair Oaks. They are fantastic. read more

Today was my first time going to Gloss and I'll definitely be going back. The salon was very clean and had a really relaxed positive atmosphere about it. Everything was wiped off in between costumers, and they check temperatures and have you wash your hands as you arrive. I'm 36 weeks pregnant and they made me feel extremely comfortable. Few months later, decided to give the place another chance, as I am really happy with the technician who does my pedicure. I got appointment for 3:00 pm, waited for almost one hour before my technician started working on my pedicure. Close to 3:30, my technician approached me and apologised for the wait, although it wasn't her fault. The receptionist didn't even bother to tell me she's running late or give me an update. I'm not sure why is it so hard to call and inform me to come later if they are behind. They always ask for the phone number but don't bother to call and inform about the delay. I think it's really disrespectful and frustrating. I ended up waiting for one hour when I could have come later. This has been my go-to for gel manis since they opened. Not sure if I'll be going back anymore - my last experience was a little chaotic. It might've been my fault by going on a Friday evening before the holiday weekend, but it was just not relaxing. It was super crowded and everyone was just so loud (no one was angry or fighting it was just LOUD). My nail tech rushed and filed my nails too fast and rough - I'm still feeling the pain today beneath my nails. In the end she did a great job despite using a beat-up-looking UV light and hurting me so much. I'm sad I had a bad experience bc everyone is generally friendly and quick and the prices are decent. I really enjoy coming to the spot, which is why it took a lot for me to leave this review, but I refuse to be misstreated the way that I was by my nail technician Vivian, and walk away, paying full price for awful service that was very abruptly ignored by the front desk. Sure maybe once in a while I've had a nail tech refile one or two nails because I'm not too particular in general but today was terrible. She filed my nails and left them sharp on all edges, and I simply asked if we were going to do a shaping file and she said your nails are shaped so I asked her to round the corners a little and she ended up rounding some corners while pushing and pulling my hand very clearly making it obvious that she's not happy with me giving any sort of feedback, although I was polite with my request. So having dealt with that response I left with half of my nails shaped in square round and half of them in sharp squared edges. We all have bad days, so maybe this was a bad day for her, but the pushing and pulling, and rudeness was unnecessary. read more

My friend and I made appointments to come in on a Friday afternoon: she got gelx, I got a gel mani and regular pedi.. the location alone is in busy old town Pasadena. It was hectic walking in, lots of yelling and people waiting (it reminded me of Blue Diamond in Ontario way back in the day!) we only had to wait about 5 mins to be seated.. I got my nails done at a table first and my nail tech was super fast! She talked me into getting the "hard" gel (the same gel used to bond the extensions) which starts to burns in the little light oven. Plus, it's more expensive. The cuticles were not cut which I'm kind of glad due to how fast she was moving. I was content with how they looked for the most part.. later when I got home, I realized how uneven they were. The toes were a better experience.. I stuck to the basic service and my toes looked good. I go pay for my services and realized they had wine bottles behind the counter. I inquired about them and they said they offer free drinks. It wasn't mentioned upon arrival but, at the same time, the atmosphere wasn't relaxing enough to enjoy it either lol it was cheap stuff anyway... oh, they do provide validation stickers for parking. My friend had a design she wanted but her nail tech couldn't fully execute. Overall, an ok experience. But still on the hunt to find my "go-to" spot. read more

I've been here 5 or 6 times. 3 of those times the nail techs have injured me. Don't get me wrong, Their paint jobs are awesome but I don't know if they're rushing or not paying attention. Once a tech used a drill bit on my thumb to the point they had gone to skin and damaged my nail bed. I had to get medication from urgent care because it got infected! Also, my nail bed got all wonky and took 3 months to grow out the damage. This latest visit the nail tech, although nice, was doing what felt like an archaeological dig under under and along the sides of my big toenails. My toes were throbbing and now I'm keeping an eye out in case they get infected. Hopefully they're just bruised. I haven't seen any reviews like this so I don't know why half the time I go here to get bomb ass looking nails the techs are so rough and don't pay attention to the use of pressure or the danger of using a power tool on flesh. Beauty doesn't have to equal pain all the time. Is it it me? Am I being a baby? So good manicures and pedicures come at the cost of sepsis? read more

Unequivocally the worst experience! Traveling the globe getting mani/pedi routinely, couldn't imagine this Old Town salon could be subpar. Was referred and first time customer. Made appt for 11-yr old granddaughter for gel mani (no extras) and basic pedi for me. Appt time was Noon. Arrived to standing room only and packed salon, with numerous stations and spa chairs. I was taken in 5-min, granddaughter waited 30-min. Overbooked and took walk-ins! Sat for pedi, and Tammy started for a few minutes, then stated she'd be right back. Moved to another customer to finish her pedi for next 10-min. Meanwhile, the gal next to me had friend standing and keeping her company and her backside was in my face! They didn't ask her to move. Tammy returned, water now cold and she's rushing. Began cutting and went to low, moving to cuticles painfully cutting them. When digging on big toe made it bleed! So painful, screamed to stop (I'm not sensitive). Had me put foot in water to stop bleeding. Lightly brushed over other foot (now nervous) and then I just had her stop. Went from bad to worse. Damage done, plus I didn't want to polish for fear of infection where toe was cut. Tammy tried to convince me it was okay. I got an incomplete pedi, no polish and left the chair. Meanwhile, my granddaughter is finally taken and they did the unthinkable! Showed her the gel polish colors for "Chrome" -- $10 up-charge! They did an UP-SALE on a minor! Didn't ask the adult paying if okay -- was an intentional manipulation to make extra money. When paying and waiting for granddaughter, who was done in just under 30-minutes, the cashier said she'd take $10 off my pedi. Needed to be a No Charge. Gave her my credit card and was charged $77! Couldn't believe the high pricing. Asked them to breakdown which they did on the back of the receipt. They changed up and said it was 10% off the pedi (a few dollars), so they were trying to see if I wouldn't pay attention. Trickery! I specifically asked what the mani was (since no prices posted) and they wrote $50 and no mention of Chrome. When checking in, you sign a sheet, it was a regular gel mani, so they needed to ask if it was a changed service. I called the next day to ask randomly what's the cost of a gel mani and its $40. That's when I began telling them what happened and they wanted pictures. I supplied. They wrote a bunch of nonsense texts to me and tried to say they give lower costs if she was 8. Did they ever ask her age? No! Unethical all the way around. Add the parking and tip for mani -- was an $85 visit. Ridiculous! When they realized I had photos of the incidents and knew I was going to report, they offered $10 back. But I vow to never step in that salon again. Lesson learned. Its already higher prices to pay for location and their fancy salon. Funny enough, they have wine you can enjoy for purchase with bottles on display. Seems they'd give a complementary glass for those prices. I have a wonderful salon, smaller, reasonable prices and they don't take walk-ins if busy. Mostly appointment only since they're that good! Try L Beauty on Colorado, free 2-hour parking on surrounding blocks and you can book online; they text to confirm appts and keep you apprised.
