I had visited a similar place in Virginia and my whole family couldnt stop talking about how good the food was so I was beyond ecstatic to have lunch here. This is buffet style, you collect the raw ingredients and take to the grill to be cooked. Raw ingredients include noodles/meats/veggies/sauces/eggs. The cost was about $10. This was a little different from what i had previously experienced in that it was buffest so any left overs you are charged by the pound to take. First time eating at a restaurant with this style. You pick your food raw from the buffet and bring it up to be cooked while you wait. It takes less than 5 minutes to cook. I liked the selection, they had many vegetarian/ vegan options. It did get extremely busy (Sunday 5 pm). I would recommend avoiding dinner time due to the lines. I admit I am super lame because I skipped homework to write this review. I tried this place out with my sister on Monday and was so impressed with the concept. I've never been to a Mongolian Grill before but it reminds me of a meal we have on a skillet at home. It incorporated the same concept, tons of veggies and various types of meat. The only major difference was it wasn't cooked in butter. After reading the reviews I bookmarked the place and was actually impressed. I'll definitely be back but I might have to ask Shao the owner if I can bring my own sauce. I'll sign of waiver if I have to ;) The concept is to fill your plate with all the ingredients you want and then take it to the cooking station. I confirmed it you can make as many return trips as you would like. Frankly I couldn't handle more than two trips and on my second trip my dish was full of nothing but veggies. I was impressed with the variety and freshness of the vegetables. I'm a huge veggie snob, I cringe at the sight of dried veggies. They had two types of mushrooms out, different types of peppers, pricier vegetables such as snow peas and asparagus. You can easily get your money's worth if you load up on the snow peas and asparagus (my favorite veggies). Seriously I would definitely return simply because of the freshness of the veggies. For Yelpers who are a fan of Pick and Mix, this place is similar but with MORE VEGGIES! The meat selection was okay. Beef flank, goat, shrimp, scallops, salmon and trout. The protein was frozen chips, I guess that's to keep cost down? I would like to see tofu added to the selection in the future. They had three types of noodles to pick from, yellow lomein noodles, udon and starch noodles. The udon was my favorite because it absorbed the most flavor. The sauce selection was pretty impressive but I can see how it can be overwhelming for someone who is not familiar with how the flavors taste. One recommendation I have is that the staff put indicators of their most popular sauce to facilitate the lost and confused in their selection. I'm sure a little star over the tags/ labels will help facilitate an enjoyable experience for those new to Asian cuisine. My favorite sauce was the garlic sauce. For one of my dishes I mixed Korean BBQ and a bunch of other things, that concoction was not my best. I didn't touch the ice cream bar. Nothing was calling out my name. Would love to see red bean ice cream in the freezer. Since I'm in a "request mode" a chocolate fountain would be nice if its within the budget for the next quarter :) Shao works/ helps on the floor and I was impressed with his attentiveness. I was dressed like a total slob yet the service was top notch. Overall for the price I would definitely return. Innovative concept, fresh veggies and friendly staff. This place is great. When you walk in you get seated, get drinks (which are strong!) And head over to the buffet line. There, you pick the ingredients that you'd like, with a huge range of assorted veggies, meats and sauces. You'll head to the grill where they cook it all up for you, throw in your sauce and present you with a fresh cooked dish. There's so many combinations of food that can be made, and small portions are recommended so you can try a little bit if everything. Be aware, there's pork, eggs, and lots of allergens that they mix up on the grill and they all use the same spatulas, a little bit of cross contamination might happen. So keep that in mind - You CAN ASK them to use clean utensils if you're allergic to anything! read more

Great experience! We went for lunch after my little sis recommended we give it a try. It was fairly quiet at lunch, which gave me plenty of time to peruse the selections without getting in anyone's way. They had a full salad bar, which looked lovely--I skipped right to the main attraction, however. A create-your-own noodle bar with tons of choices had my attention! Lo mein, udon and rice noodles to start, then add your own veggies and choose your proteins (chicken, beef, bacon, shrimp, sausage, etc.). Then, choose your sauce from at least 8 choices, or if you're indecisive like me, mix your favorites. Then bring it all to the large circular grill and the magic begins. This place is great for anyone who is picky and those who have bottomless stomachs. For $9 for lunch and $16 for dinner, you can go up as many times as you want and with endless combinations, why wouldn't you? If you have any room after that, there is an ice cream bar to top off your meal. Oh and use the Yelp check in--you get a free beer! (whaaat?!) Although the food was adequate unfortunately the service was very poor. I hesitate to leave reviews you have to do something really really absurd for me to spend the time giving you a negative review. A few moments after I entered the restaurant I realized I was being stared at by one of the employees. We selected our food watch to be prepared and went to our table. She followed and sat in the table near me and continue to stare at us. I felt so uncomfortable I couldn't eat my meal. I have no idea why she did this the only thing I can think of is I had a large purse. Perhaps she felt I was going to take something home I really don't know it was so strange. I mentioned it to the manager he smiled at me and told me he didn't know what I was talking about. I like this place. I just came back from a visit and they had bottles of Long Trail on sale for $2.00. Hard to beat that on value. It's a cute restaurant with nice decor. The concept is fun. They have fresh vegetables and frozen meats that you select with a noodle. You bring it up with a sauce to the cooking station and they cook it front of you. I sometimes use this opportunity to do something that I wouldn't usually do at home and see how it comes out. How does pineapple, chicken and spicy garlic sauce taste when fried with lo mein noodles? Why not try it out? It's all you can eat for $9.99. It's really daring and out there, just take a little and see how it all turns out. It's a flavor kitchen science experiment. The service is good. A very different dinning experience here. Create your own meal concept with loads of things to choose from. The very first time I was here had a tough time with the staff. The waitress could not seat us quickly and she wasn't fluent in English. It's basically a buffet, you have a salad bar. The interesting thing is about the entree. This part of the counter/station has noodles, veggies and meat and loads of sauces. You pick a plate add all that you like from this counter, including the sauces. Then line up to get the whole stuff grilled. They have a huge round flat iron griddle on which your stuff goes on for grilling for couple of minutes. They also have ice cream counter with many sauces n topping too. Seating space is good for groups too. This resto is in a plaza, so parking is not a problem. Never been a fan of all-you-can-eat places (don't say anything!) and I must admit this is probably one of my favorites. Instead of pre-cooked food just dying on a heating tray you have a bunch of raw foods that are on cooling trays. take what you like, throw it on a plate, let the chefs cook the food right in front of you on a giant circle cooking surface, and then take the food they cook for you and place it in your face. there are tons of combinations and ingredients to choose. take ham, take bacon, take these flash frozen beef circles, grab a sauce, a giant plate of rice noodles with a couple veggies (got to keep this healthy), and wha-blam! tasty eats for your belly. inexpensive, tasty, and fresh. not much you can do to make that wrong. keep doing the good job gobi! read more

Also includes a salad and ice cream bar. You'll just have to see it for yourself to believe. Tip-- go for lunch for the best bang for your Mongolian buck ($9 per person vs. $17 per person for dinner, I think!) VEGETARIANS BEWARE: Excellent for vegetarians. Ah, the gloss is off a bit on Gobi. On followup visits, you start to notice a few things more. The interior a bit more run down. The quality of the proteins is just ok and the meat is frozen too. The sauces themselves tend to run a bit sweet. That's not to say that it's all bad. On the contrary, it has a very good selection of vegetables and it's still a nice format in ACYE style. But with a new Mongolian Grill (Khagan) opened up a little closer to home, I think my days of Gobi may be Go-bye.... read more

Okay, disclaimer (again): Best Buddy was recognized by the owner (who was pleasant and accommodating). We're compelled to reveal this to you, dear readers, because your mileage may vary. Now, that being said, this woman is a wonderful, hard-working business owner with whom we'd made acquaintance many years ago. I'm confident enough in her cred and integrity to tell you that based on her presence here alone, I can recommend that you eat here. We're not big fans of "buffets," nor places where you need to "fix your own" nor "all-you-can-eat" wherein you must collect a plate of raw materials and present it for cooking (before your eyes, if you'd like, but we'd prefer to retire to the bar and not stand). Here's the trick: sit at the bar, order drinks, and then go up, pick out your veggies, protein, and sauce (there are literally a million combinations one can arrive at given the comprehensive, attractive variety of foods available). TIP the chefs, (we did $5 a plate; $25 for three of us, two of whom went back for a return trip; it's "all-you-can-eat.") The drinks were nice-priced, and poured generously. Tito's on the rocks was only $7 and was a de facto double (again, remember that these people recognized us and I think the service rendered was over and above what I witnessed was rendered to other customers). The cool thing was that our host complained that his brother refused to go there "because he doesn't want to get up and wait for his food." All one need do to solve that problem is to hand the chefs (and sometimes the table servers) a modest gratuity and they'll bring it to the bar right away -- with a smile. I expected to pay more than $3.50 for a beer; and certainly more than $7.00 for vodka on the rocks. Guess what? This handsome bar offers very, very generous drinks at value prices! Just the right thing for a couple of lushes like Best Buddy and myself... The sauces were average. But there was plenty of Hoisen sauce, hot chili paste, and minced garlic -- and Best Buddy spoke Mandarin to the chefs so our food was superb. Very light, low-salt (Best Buddy's on heart meds), and *exactly what we wanted.* How could we love this place more? Only if we didn't have to get up and pick our own stuff -- but then, a Chinese restaurant would've charged us three times as much for a selection of specialized stir-fries; and probably not gotten it right. GO HERE: drink here, if you don't want to get up, the staff will provide you with a menu for fried rice specialties or "wraps," and you won't have to get up. But heck, we don't mind making the selections, and then waiting for it to come back... read more

This was the first ever Mongolian grill I ever went to and roughly 8 years later it is still my absolute favourite. I came here last night while visiting Connecticut for the holidays with a group of friends. We came here around 7:00PM and even though the place was pretty packed we were able to snag a table without a problem. I'm going to get right into what matters and that's the food itself. You start off picking whatever vegetables you want, move onto the noodles (they even have udon!) and then move on to the meat! On top of having pretty much every meat you could want in this situation they even offer a ton of spices and sauces (I personally mix marinara sauce with sweet and sour, I'm aware that people find this gross). Once you gather everything you want you bring it to the centre station and watch them cook it right in front of you. Once it's finished and you dig in, you realize just how amazing the good actually is. Sadly I was only able to have 1 1/2 plates last night before getting full, but I challenge you to eat at least 4-5 plates just to make the experience that much better! read more

Beef, lamb, chicken, pork, shrimp, scallops, bacon, ham, crab... you name it they have it. Every vegetable you could want. The only Mongolian BBQ I even know of in CT. All you can eat buffet with salad bar and ice cream. The more imaginative you are the better your meal will be. I've heard it equated to design your own Chinese take out but I'm fine with that. One night I was feeling odd that I made a round that was literally everything I had never had made into a dish there. It was amazing. My daughter loves the idea because she's just learning about different flavors and such and this lets her feel like she can create and loves the idea loves watching them cook and beat part we don't have to clean up after her "experiments". I love this restaurant, not only is the food very good it is a fun place to eat. the all you can eat model is WAY more fun than your run of the mil order and eat system. you loadup your plate and enjoy. everyday I plan on going with friends I don't eat the whole day just so i can eat more of their food. I don't particularly like seafood but their seafood options are not only very wide but also damn near delectable along with their normal food being very good. they also have an all you can eat ice cream bar with high quality ice cream thats surprisingly not freezer burnt like you would expect form an all you can eat ice cream bar. I highly recommend if you want a delicious dining experience the one complaint I have is the meat can be slightly over cooked somtimes read more

If you have never experienced a Mogolian BBQ . This is a great place to go. They have a good selection of proteins. And the sides all are as fresh as can be. They have a wide range of sauces. Sure to satisfy the needs of everyone. I've enjoyed Mongolian BBQ all over the world while in the Air Force. The thing about rating buffets is that it always falls into its own special class for me. You're talking about mass-preparing and maintaining many dishes, and that will usually mean taking a hit in terms of quality, somewhere. That's no different with Gobi Mongolian Grill. Some dishes are piping hot, steam rising, and you know those are good. Some are lukewarm at best, and they're usually the items that are not moving as well- bit of a chicken-or-the-egg thing, you're not sure if that's because they're not good, or they were good, but not replacing them caused their quality to drop. Some are a bit dried out. Variety is excellent, and you will fortunately have enough good options to choose from. Since we don't have many buffet places in Southington anymore, I can recommend them with the caveat I often give when it comes to buffets. Not everything will be hot and fresh. But the food does taste good when it is. Fairly solid. read more

Beef, Chicken, Pork, Sausage, Bacon, Lamb (hard and chewy), Shrimp, Squid, Clams etc., and varieties of vegetables. With many combinations of sauces. You chose whatever you want in on the plate, bring them to the cooking area, and in the less than five minutes you get the cooked dish. You can make the taste Spicy, Salty, Sweet or something else by combining the various sauces. It would be four stars if they had a better quality lamb which is the staple of the Mongolian food. read more
