Great, authentic Korean style food. I've been here several times for take out and my favorite seems to be the bento lunch and dinners. I love the variety, I love the selection of side veggies and the portion to price ratio is reasonable. I don't love the Korean fried chicken. I wish I could substitute that for more kimchee or cucumbers, but it's not a deal breaker. The staff has always been very nice. I can't wait to try more menu items. read more

You HAVE TO get the fried chicken! It is absolutely amazing!! Even when it was covered in sauce the chicken was still crispy! I don't know how they do it but it's so good. The staff at Gogi were very nice. However, I was not super impressed with the food. I'm half Korean so maybe my opinion may be a little harsh but I did not feel the side dishes were up to par with a lot of the other Korean restaurants in the area. My family and I have been here before and I have always had a good experience. Not sure why it's taken me so long to write a review. My family and I recently went there on a Sunday afternoon and were warmly greeted and sat quickly. We ordered the half/half KFC (spicy and ginger), spicy pork bibimbop, and chicken yakisoba. Updating my review. This place used to be awesome and it's still ok if there's like no other Korean restaurant open. This is the second time within the past year we've came to eat and both occasions we noticed a super weird smell coming from the food. First time was the sullung tang and as soon as they delivered it to the table, I could not stop gagging. It was almost like a rotten mildew smell coming from the soup. We went to eat again today and this time got soon doo boo and it also had that same weird funk to the food. Owner/manager ( male) got really aggressive after we made the server, who we think is an owner as well ( the wife perhaps ) that our soup was too salty . My husband always order the Korean spicy tofu soup everywhere he goes that offers it. So this was not a new dish that he was eating for the first time . He commented to me it tasted very salty . I tired it and indeed it was . We kindly let the server know who said she'll remake different one by adding more broth . No big deal. The male owner / manager came over with a spoon to try our soup . He tried it and said to us " taste good" and "that how it suppose to taste and every customer here like it this way" . He went one to mumble something that I cannot make out but in a very harsh/ mean manner. We said to him "sure but it's really salty we cannot eat it." But this owner wasn't taking that and was demanding it was fine the way it is. The female owner actually had to hold him back from trying to argue some more with us . My husband and I calmly said it's all subjective and we aren't going to argue . It's fine we just won't eat it . We did not wanted to make a scene in front of our kids and others customers over a soup. Both the owners left our table and didn't take the soup away and never came back to try to make it better. We weren't going touch it anyways because it's too salty to taste and especially after it's been touch by someone else despite the spoon appearing to be new clean spoon. We paid the bill in full and left . Will not ever go back to an establishment that cannot solve a customer related incident in a civil manner. We did not ask for a refund ... we did not as for a discount ... we just wanted to make our dinner enjoyable, but the way this gentleman acted and treated the incident was far from acceptable . My son even commented to my husband and I that the owner looked like he wanted to fight or something . I give it 2 stars as the seafood pancake and Korean chicken was great and the female owner was nice and I appreciate her holding her husband back from arguing some more. My husband and I were not even wanting to argue and we didn't even raise our voices . We just wanted to eat and go home to rest. I will never go back to a place where the owner/ manager cannot take constructive feedback professionally and act so erratically . Side note: this is not the first time we have ate there . I guess when there are no conflict it's all good BUT beware if there's ever issues be prepared to be treated the way we did. read more

Been here twice already and have ordered their beef bibimbap and seafood soon soup. Both dishes were very good with nothing to complain about. The service was good and so are the prices. I got the bulgogi stone dish for $15. It was basically a bibimbap with meat. It was very big. And I mean it was very big! I thought it was pretty good the flavors were fine. It came out sizzling hot, and I broke the egg yoke and mix everything together with sauce. Tasted fantastic and it seemed very authentic. They also serve sushi but I didn't try any of that. My friends try the other dishes including the pork belly and the other bulgogi plates and some tofu soup. They didn't complain about it and it seemed they enjoyed it a lot. The staff was friendly and was very attentive. I like how they were really familiar with their dishes and that they were constantly coming by to check if it tasted good or not. In the background they played some Korean pop music which was pleasing. So now I have 4 Korean places that I will eat at. :-) read more

I had the bulgogi bento. The thing had so much food, but it also cost $23 before tip. It was yummy and had such a great variety of foods. There was the bulgogi (sweet, flavorful, and without a bunch of fat or connective tissue). It was the star of the meal. BUT, the Korean style sweet and spicy battered chicken breast was crazy good. Very crispy and just the right amount of heat. The tempura shrimp was okay. The batter was so so and the shrimp was tiny. There was this weird wanna be cheese thing in there. Kimchi was on point and so was the other banchan. I wish they'd offer a half portion of the dinner bento boxes and charge like $14. $23 is okay if you plan to split it with your girl, but not enough food for two dudes, but too much for just one dude. I wish it wasn't so hot. Cheap Koreans need to turn down the AC, so this Korean can dine in. It was kind of muggy in there. read more

SO BOMB. I usually eat their KBBQ every time I come. It was until my mother invited me out with her ex co-workers she was still in touch with. We ended up being a party of 8 (if I recall correctly) and the servers always came to check on us and refilled our drinks constantly. Very good service. Can't remember everything we ordered (I didn't order or pay) but I remember the Chop Chae being one of the most TASTIEST foods I've EVER EATEN, and trust me, I have the best home cooked meals from my mother and I go to authentic places VERY often. The other meal that came just as close was the teriyaki salmon. OMGGGGG so savory and delicious (however either the most expensive dish or the top ones). I went again next time and ordered only Chop Chae to eat with my mother. It filled us both and we still had leftovers (around $18). For new comers, you can refill the side dishes! So, while the food here wasn't bad, the service, or rather lack-thereof is. So, we were meeting with my in-laws here for dinner, and so my husband grabs the teeny, I grab the booster chair and diaper bag and we head in towards their table. All of a sudden, my foot flies out from behind me, and as I try to catch my balance, I end up smashing into a table full of hot food. (if you've had Korean food, you know that the majority of food is served scorching hot in burning hot stone bowls/dishes). Seriously?! I'm not clumsy, and I felt so bewildered at what just happened.... Yeah, so what happened was one of the waiters had spilled something prior to our arrival and decided NOT TO CLEAN IT UP, and forgot about it. And not like a tiny little splash of water or something, it looked like a good sized dish of some dark black sauce had been upended in their entry way on their dark floor. After the poor party whose table I had crashed into was ok, and I was ok - and felt terrible about almost falling into their food, as well as rolling my ankle while trying to catch my balance and having a minor burn/scratch on my finger (probably from contact with aforementioned stone bowl), I hurried to our table. At this point, I was pretty upset because WHO LEAVES A TON OF FOOD ON THE FLOOR at a restaurant?!?!? I usually am the one who holds our baby, too - and can you imagine what would have happened if I had been holding the baby when I slipped? Or what if it was my husband who had slipped instead of me? I was expecting the waitstaff to be extremely apologetic for what happened. Uh, yeah no. The waiter who had spilled the sauce came up and basically said "Oh, I'm so sorry, it was my fault. I didn't clean up the spill. You're ok?" And that was IT. Our actual waitress said NOTHING, didn't even check to see if I was ok. The manager? I don't know if they even have one, but no manager made an appearance. There was literally nothing done to remedy the situation, aside from the measly apology by the one waiter. If the restaurant staff had handled this situation differently, I would probably not feel so strongly as I do! So yes, while the food was ok, my whole experience was completely ruined. On top of that, on a 50* night, all of the female waitstaff had on the shortest shorts. Seriously? Just poor taste and non-existant professionalism. read more

Great new Korean restaurant in the East Valley. Went here for the first time with some foodie friends last night. Nice clean atmosphere with the usual Korean and Sushi menu. We wanted to try just the Korean dishes so we could compare. 1. Korean Omelet Appetizer: If you like egg dishes then this is a must try. Cooked perfectly (little wet - the way I like it) and flavor was fresh and was seasoned just right. 2. Fresh Water Eel Hot Stone Rice Bowl: Generous portion of one of my favorite dishes. Rice and vegetables were perfectly balance and the sauce was superb. The sunny side egg and eel on top was great. Stir together with your preferred qty of sauce at the table and you will not be disappointed. 3. Galbi: great flavoring and cut. Only complaint was I wished there was more. 4. Spicy Beef Stew: Good balance of hotness and flavor. My favorite part of our visit was the service. The three girls that took our order and served our table were all extremely friendly and sincerely wanted to make our dinner memorable and enjoyable. Our water glasses were never empty and the sides and rice were always continually offered. Basis for my starred ratings (which skews heavily to the food or drink): 1 star: Never again. 2 stars: Poor food, poor experience, extraordinary measures in order for me to come back. 3 stars: Average, nothing really special, nothing particularly bad. 4 stars: Very good, would definitely return. 5 stars: A favorite, one of the best. This might be the best Korean restaurant in the Valley. As with every Korean place anywhere you try ti find what's best on the menu and stick with it. That's what my wife and I have done and our conclusions are: No place else serves gamja tang in the Valley far as I know. It is pretty good here. It is big, and filling, with enough meat. They raised the prices a bit, but it is still one of the better values for Korean food there is. The dogani tang is also a good value. They have put in A LOT of dogani every time I've ordered it. The haemul pajun is solid here. It is huge and I think they put in the most seafood of all the haemul pajuns around. Finally, the dolsot bibim bap is also pretty good here. I believe you get the best value here for your money of all the Korean places in the Valley. Again, no place gets barbecued meat right in the Valley either, so when it comes to taste, I give it a meh. BUT, they do give you a lot. read more

Okay to begin...I found a hair in my fried rice. We decided to try Gogi for the first time on a Monday night. Both my husband and I were seated immediately however the service was slow to attend to us and take our drink order (somewhat expected as we read prior reviews). After ordering our food, it all arrived within 15 minutes or so which was great. We ordered the sweet & spicy fried chicken and the garlic fried chicken, both of these were phenomenal in flavor, value, and overall crispness. The garlic was sliced and tasted like roasted garlic and the wings were drizzled in a honey garlic type sauce, it wasn't an overwhelming amount of garlic just sweet and tasty. Finger licking good tbh. The spicy was good as well, we were impressed with the portion sizes. Then the fried rice came out, it was nicely plated with a fried egg on top however after mixing it all together and a taking a few bites, I found two small black hairs curled up and stuck to the oil of the plate. I was absolutely disgusted from this especially being our first time here, it wasn't a great impression..we flagged down the staff to let them know. A young gentleman came over and said oh well let me ask my boss but refuses to take the plate out of the way (who wants to still look at the hair on the plate?!?) he then proceeds to come back 5 minutes later and offers to remake another order of the fried rice. We accept, however he still doesn't take the old plate out of the way. Around 10 minutes later, the new order of rice arrived and it was better cooked even, the beef was more tender while in the first order the beef was over cooked. Overall, this experience with the rice was very off setting. We then ordered the kalbi which had very good flavor but the portion size was very small for $26, it was about 2 1/2 ribs cut up. I'd recommend only ordering this dish at there lunch price or in the bento to get a better value. All in all, we would return for the delicious KFC but slightly hesitant since there was a sanitary issue and the way the staff handled it was off putting. They could've apologized or at least taken the plate away once it was brought to there attention. We spent $72 on dinner which felt like a lot for casual Korean dining. If you decide to try Gogi expect slow service, only worth it for the chicken and would probably be the best experience to take out. read more

Thank you, Hon Machi, for being closed, because this gave us the opportunity to try this phenomenal new restaurant now on our rotation. Are you looking for sushi? Gogi's got it fresh and tasty, and they'll serve you a lot! (See picture) Teryaki? YES, with BIG hunks of meat. I have had Chicken Teriyaki in a lot of places, and this place seriously surprised me with how much juicy, fresh chicken they put on my plate. Like fried calamari? This isn't the Italian type! No rings or small tentacle bunches--you get strips and large, whole crispy tentacles. Not as tender as the ones I'm used to, but very delicious! While the place is primarily Korean, there's a good deal of Japanese and even Chinese dishes here as well. There's enough choices to make anybody happy, so go here and bring your friends or family--or both. When a lot of the other sushi houses are closed in the afternoon until 5pm, they are open. My boyfriend and I are both half Korean and were raised on Korean food IN Korea, and we both agree that this has to be the WORST Korean restaurant in all of Arizona. We ordered the spicy pork belly, mackerel, and seafood soft tofu soup. The spicy pork marinade tasted store-bought (there was a strange preservative-like aftertaste), the soup was basically just hot pepper flakes and pepper paste in hot water, and the mackerel was over fried, dry, and lacked any flavor whatsoever aside from grease. It was a complete waste of money going here and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone ever. read more
