Surprised I had not reviewed this spot before. Great place to go with a group when celebrating a birthday, an achievement, or some other occasion. Also, great place to just go out for a big meal when you and your wife are hungry. We have been coming to this Golden Corral for many years. The staff are very friendly. We are always greeted and treated very well. I tend to load up on every variation of potatoes that they have available - scalloped, baked, mashed, French fries, stewed, yams, etc. Also, spinach, Brussel sprouts, green beans, and plenty of veggies to round out my first plate. Then I'll check out what kind of meats they have available and grab some. Love that over the years they have improved their drink selections to now include Vitamin Water. First impressions: the lights are reminiscent of hospital lighting, and we couldn't find a clean table with clean chairs without spaghetti on the floor. The people helping us were kind. My favorite food here is probably the steak although I don't think their steak is quite as good as the ones I got in Amarillo Texas location. My second favorite main dish is the pot roast. It's always so tender and juicy and flavorful. Other things that I almost always put on my plate are the fish, broccoli, brussel sprouts, mushrooms, spinach both fresh and cooked, and when I have room for it, the liver and onions. In Amarillo I love the menudo but they don't seem to have it in Mesa. I tried the pozole and the flavor was good but it was basically just beans and flavoring with not enough liquid to call it a soup. It was literally the bottom of the barrel so they probably refilled it at some point. At this particular locations I have really had some good servers or whatever they are called here since they don't actually serve your food. The couple times I've been here recently have been fairly busy. At other locations they have the chocolate fountain that you can dip marshmallows and strawberries in but they don't have that here. None of the desserts really impressed me much but that's okay, I don't need them. My usual technique is to come in between 3:30 and 4:00, have some soup and salad and then when they start cooking the steaks at 4:00 I have some steak. I'm no longer young so I can't eat a lot, they won't be losing any money on me. But I brought my grandson yesterday and he ate as much as his mother and me put together, LOL. I was surprised he wasn't that interested in the steak but he was very happy with the fried Chicken except he said it was very oily but he ate it down to the bone, three large pieces plus some wings, went back for a huge plate of spaghetti and still had room for some desserts. Oh to be a teenager again. There are advantages to being a senior and one of them is getting the discount even though it's only a dollar off, still, every bit helps. I am sad that the prices have gone up so much in the past few years but that's true everywhere not just here. But I remember when I used to come in and get the lunch senior price for $8. I decided I wanted some leftovers so I asked them how much it was for to go box. They said $9.99 a pound which was less than I thought it might be now. I got it to go box and the guy threw three steaks in it plus I put some broccoli and my leftover ribs. To my surprise it only came to about $10. I thought it would be closer to 15. I had awesome pot roast. I had a jalapeño that was grilled and so wonderfully spicy. I watched the people decorating desserts, getting salad fixings and working hard. Not one server was standing around on their phones. Not one server was on a visible break. They were all 100% busting hard and the floor was clean, the plates were clean. We used to eat here all the time, but it's been going downhill BIG time. Nothing is ever fresh, they run out of things and don't refill them, you can never find utensils, and the kitchen staff acts so bothered by having to serve you. Went for dinner with my wife since we saw their ad for their steak and butterfly shrimp dinner. We normally go their breakfast which we rate at 3 stars, but this dinner last night we rate at only 2 stars. Their salad bar is always pretty good, but last night their advertised dinner was pretty bad. My steak was tough but edible, but my wife's piece was tough as shoe leather and gristly as all heck. My guess is that the USDA rating for this steak offering is USDA STANDARD at best. The butterfly shrimp was also pretty bad. Premade, frozen stuff -- the coating was thick and tasteless and the shrimps were dried out and bad. I guess you can't expect much for the price. read more

All the staff was friendly, our table was cleaned off many times, are drinks were refilled promptly, and the food was good overall. I really don't understand what people expect when they go to a buffet. If you're looking for high quality food then you're in the wrong place. If you're looking for food that ranges from good to meh to bad, then you're in the right place. For me, I come because the things I get (pot roast, mashed potatoes, corn, gravy, rolls) are generally good. Some other things may fit into the meh category, but I've never found anything to be bad. I had the Caesar dressing, bleu cheese crumbles (lots) , cucumbers... etc., etc. and all the other dressings... it was really good ! I appreciated the girl that changed out the sad mushrooms for some nice fresh ones! Oh my goodness we ate and ate and ate and ate lol I mean that's what the point of a buffet/salad bar is right? But for me I like to just get a little bit taste it and then go back for more I would have to say my best favorite was the pot roast with the red potatoes and then I also did love the carne Asada that they had, it was sliced thinly, which is great I just like a little taste, but if you do like a big steak they cook steaks to order! I certainly wasn't hungry enough for that and I didn't have enough room for it, but I could definitely see myself going back there and taking my kids and let them all choose whatever they like. The server was really sweet and the drink is not included so here's a tip - unless you're gonna drink water it's going to be about $22 for the buffet and the food which is not a bad price at all considering the amount of food choices!! I guess you pick up your silverware which is in a basket and individual little packets in your straw when you're walking in that would be my other tip. The staff was really friendly and everyone seemed happy which is always a good sign when people are in a restaurant. it was my sister's birthday and they came and sang happy birthday to her and brought her a slice of cake with some special little sprinkles, they really made it so sweet and we had such a fun time even if it was only for a moment that they sang! I haven't been since 2020 and I haven't been missing out on anything. The cost has gone up to 23$ and some changed for Sunday dinner all day prices and a drink. It was musty and warm not enough air flow, it lacked cleanliness in the line station, in how the wash and prep veggies to the dishes. Yes the dishes. So many plates, bowls and silverware were left with lipstick stains and food debris all over them. Just nasty! The quality of food was not bad and it was hot. I'm not normally a fan of these chain buffet restaurants, but we came here because my son had a coupon for breakfast. This is your standard breakfast buffet with eggs, every kind of breakfast meat you can think of including country fried steak and pork steaks, hash browns ( plain, and dressed up anyway you can think of), waffles, pancakes, french toast - - you name it. There was also an omelette station, with a guy making omelets to your order, a ham carving station, a salad bar, fried chicken and spaghetti. There was also a fully loaded dessert bar. The food is okay. Better than a lot of other buffet places. The inside is like every other Golden corral around - - standard buffet dining room. I want to thank Stacy the Host for her attentive service and professionalism. I can't remember the servers name but she was great too..... I've worked in the food service industry for 7+ years and I've never witnessed or experienced such disregard for someone's health and culture the way I did this weekend... I am a vegetarian so I'm used to limited options when eating out but almost everything had labels, some of which had "Contains Soy*" or "Contains Pork". After having a detailed conversation with the main chef about 2 separate pinto bean dishes, he assured me that none of the dishes in front of me contained pork, that in fact one of the labels they had up (Contains Pork*) didn't match any of the dishes out and proceeded to take it down. I took his word for it. Went back to get seconds of the same dish from the same container, before it was replaced with a full one. Half way through the bowl I pick a piece of my mouth and immediately go straight to the chef... Chef says: "I have a lot of new employees and sometimes they use the wrong seasoning and some of them have chunks of dried meat" I realize he isn't the person I need to be talking so after letting the Host know what's going on, finding more meat in the dish, and asking for a refund, she goes to get who I'm guessing was her manager named RICHARD..... Richard says a few things... "-Well if you're asking for a refund we'll give it to you but i don't know what you expect coming to a buffet.. you never really know what's in there. -I mean they're beans I don't know how you expect them to taste good without meat..." The entire time he was going off about how people shouldn't eat here if they have certain dietary needs, he's moving around like he might have been high or drunk but who knows. All in all, If I was allergic to something and was told the dish I wanted didn't have that ingredient and I ate it, I could have ended up in the hospital or worse, just from negligence and no concern for customer health. Now it's 2 days later and my body is not reacting well at all to my completely avoidable consumption of pig. It's really run down and is disgustingly dirty. Why you would choose carpet for a buffet is beyond me. The food was prison quality at best and there was moldy fruit and food that had clearly been left out too long. I was worried about getting anything other than a dinner roll and salad and I still ended up with a stomach ache. I went for a family event so I was trying to be a good sport but it was hard to not look visibly disgusted. I recently ordered a meal from the Golden Corral in Gilbert. It's farther than what I like to order from but I didn't realize the Mesa location had closed. I ordered the meatloaf dinner with an extra half dozen of rolls. They gave me more than 6, maybe cuz they weren't perfectly formed, but were still yummy. The packets of honey butter were great. Meatloaf was quite good and had enuf for a sandwich the next day. Also had extra carrots and mashed potatoes for a small meal another day. My only complaint was the sprite. I'm sure they used non-filtered water for the cubes. I strained out the cubes but still found the drink not to my liking so threw it out. I also ordered banana pudding for dessert which I ate much later. It was a large serving for one person. Had plenty of banana in it. Probably wouldn't order that one again. When it came to my overall dining experience with my family at the Gilbert Golden Corral it was spectacular. That is until I encountered one employee in particular that is. The food was delicious, especially being a buffet. Knowing that the cooks and chefs preparing our food are working vigorously and quick to make sure everything is appetizing both to the eye and to your taste buds. Then again in other circumstances when it came to the manager on staff I was in shock to see such unprofessional and inappropriate behavior coming from a person playing an important role. Not only did it seem as if he was continuously walking all over the place as if he's just trying to look busy as he distracted several servers from being able to continue their job. What made him stand out was the obnoxiously loud comments that were down right inappropriate and derogative toward the females working, cussing and laughing childishly as if there isn't more important task at hand. It made it very distracting for me or my wife and her sister to enjoy our meals and conversations with how absurd the situation had been. We decided to ask our server if he had always acted like that as he was on duty and working around customers and with no surprise our waitress with all seriousness said "that's just Richard he's a handful" as she apologized awkwardly. We have in the past enjoyed ourselves more than expected as we adventured over to Golden Corral to eat. It has made us come back to experience the same emotions and enjoy the delicious variety of food we keep coming back to taste. Knowing what kind of leaders are in charge of the staff, seeing the female staff members face as he's standing so close to them almost invading all personal space they have just to interrupt them with pointless conversation over irrelevant things. The lack of doing your part as a supervisor or manager and foreseeing the issues before they even take place, not realizing his own role as a boss and instead taking advantage of the perks by acting as if he's under the influence almost and can't control himself. These are things me and my loved ones had noticed walking the buffet to grab our meals and deserts. I'm just disgusted with how he even got the position he is in. That place has really taken a turn in a direction of carless etiquette that will not be beneficial or bring any type of positive change to that restaurant. We came here just as they opened on a Saturday morning. I'm not sure what the health codes say about this, but the guy behind us came in with a full grown golden retriver. If it was a service animal there was no distinction. He must be a regular because the cashire adressed the dog by name. They were sested in another section. So we found a table and were immediatly asked what drinks we wanted. We proceeded to the buffet. They ask that people wear plastic gloves when serving themselves. Almost no one put them on. It is not enforced, so what's the point? We returned and still no drinks. My wife went and got her own. I went up for my second plate and finally had coffee when I returned,but they neglected to remove our dirty plates. This was the last time our waitress stopped at our table and no dirty dishes were ever removed. We were later privy to a conversation taking place right behind us. It was between the manager and a waitress complaining about another waitress. This is unprofessional. That kind of conversation should happen behind closed doors, not on the dining room floor. As the food goes, it was fresh and hot. I found a couple things very bland like the hashbrowns and the biscut gravy. The taco bar was the best of the things I had. On the salad trip I had lettuce with tomato with french dressing, tuna salad and macaroni salad. For the main course I had a fried chicken breast, pulled pork, prime rib, a baked potato and green beans. For dessert there was apple and blueberry pie. Only the watery soft-serve ice cream was a disappointment. Very reasonable in price with the senior's discount. The waitress bussing my table was totally efficient, prompting a $5 tip.
