I just ordered take out sushi from GG. I am new to the area and I am a huge fan of sushi, so I am glad this place is less than 5 minutes from my house. I got the Red Sox Roll and a spicy tuna roll. Usually I enjoy specialty rolls more than a regular role, but this time the spicy tuna roll came out on top. VERY fresh and tasty. My only complaint is the rice was falling off a bit too much on both rolls. I am looking forward to trying their other food soon. read more

Went for lunch the other day and pleasantly surprized. My wife and I had been regulars at the Royal Dynasty til it sold and hasn't reopened. The Golden Ginger is a great alternative place for Asian food in Wilmington. The prices are quite reasonable. The food, service and ambience are also excellent. We were seated quickly and given crispy noodles while we waited for the order which arrived within 15 minutes. You get soup, appetiser and rice with each entree. I ordered Egg Drop Soup, Crab Ragoons and Fried Brown Rice with a Moo Goo Gai Pan entree. My wife got Lobster Sauce and White Rice. The service was quick and very attentive and the food was excellent. Tea is served free with meals. Cost was $20 for two including tip. That's a bargain in my book. Great lunch service!!! Fast and delicious!!! We went in as a fairly large group, eight of us, and were seated quickly. Waters were poured immediately and drink orders were taken. Five minutes later she checked back and we asked for a few more minutes. She came back accordingly and we placed our orders... Lied to us about a booth being cleaned for us while we waited and waited. Insult to our intelligence. There never was a booth available to be cleaned. They were all still taken. This was our first time back after our previous waitress spent most of her time talking to the people opposite us never asking how our food was or if we wanted another drink until we were done eating. Don't go here if you have food allergies! Albeit I have a severe sesame allergy and I went to an Asian restaurant, but I have been accommodated easily at other Asian restaurants. Before being sat I asked the manager if I could eat there due to my allergy. He assured me I could. We ordered 3 dishes and I clearly and repeatedly told my waiter about my deadly sesame allergy, and asked him to check all the ingredients and let the kitchen know. When he arrived with 2 dishes I could smell the sesame! So I asked again "You're SURE there is no sesame in there?! You asked the chef?!" He said "It's ok, yes. I began to pick on one of the plates I considered "safer" and eating very slowly. About 5 minutes later the waiter came back and I asked again "You are absolutely SURE there is no sesame oil in here?" He told me he would go check and came back (stopping at another table first) and said "It was just touched with sesame." After asking what the hell that meant, he explained they just put a little bit of sesame oil on the dish." On the verge of causing a scene the manager came back over and said they would make a fresh one without sesame and that the 3rd dish would not have any. Needless to say, I didn't eat much. The times I have been there we usually have our food in a short amount of time and always helpful with questions about the menu.You seem to always see a familiar face around the restaurant and it is all around fun. We go there fairly often as the food and service is quite good. Only occasionally order take out. Ordered take out on Valentines Day and was surprised at how busy they were. Food was good as always, but they failed to incl my order of white rice which is supposed to be incl with the entree. This place is really good. Wilmington is a dump when it comes to restaurants so this place stands out. I went to GG tonight cause I got an advertising menu in the mail and I decide to give this newly opened restaurant a try. The restaurant boasts sushi on the menu, so I ordered the Sashimi Delux as well as an order of toro sashimi a la carte, with the hope of another sushi adventure. The sashimi delux is an assorted combo of 6 different types of raw fish, with 3 pieces each, which is decent. The cut of pieces is smaller than average, but the fish is rather fresh, esp. the salmon. It is the toro, however, that really let me down tonight. First of all, they don't have O toro. That's probably understandable for a run-of-the-mill Asian restaurant like GG. But the quality of the toro is a joke. There are two pieces of blue-fin tuna belly for a single order of toro, which costs almost the same as the entire sashimi delux. I have never seen toro been cut so thin that it is almost insulting. Normal toro supposed to be in fresh pink color, and the fish they had was in dark gray color --- I don't know how long this fish had been in their fridge, probably since the day the restaurant opened. There was this unpleasant stale taste of dead fish, and the rich and creamy taste of toro is absolutely nowhere to be found. Several hours after the meal and after I brushed my teeth, I can still feel this unpleasant taste in my mouth. This is one rare dinning instance of mine, from which I actually walked away feeling angry and cheated. I won't be going back to Golden Ginger again. Once is quite enough. read more

Wow, I am amazed at the great reviews this place gets, the food was horrible!! We were given a gift certificate so we decided to go on Saturday night. The atmosphere reminded me of a cafeteria, the server was miserable and much worst, the food was DISGUSTING!!!!! I have never had a pupu platter served over lettuce, WTF???!!! The food was cold, the lobster sauce tasted like they dumped soy sauce and duck sauce on it and just and mixed it in. The rice was cold, light in color and had no taste. Obviously the people who posted the great reviews have never had Chinese food anywhere else. I have had Chinese food at a mall food court that is MUCH better than the shit we ate on Saturday!!! The Golden Ginger has always been somewhat inconsistent in their quality. We stopped going there some time ago because the quality was very poor. Tried again and the quality has gotten worse. Food was bland, chicken was chewy the sushi fish of extremely inferior quality. The fortune cookies were so stale their were inedible. Never again. read more

This place is decent enough to keep coming back to, but certainly isn't my first choice. I find the hostess often looks miserable and maybe that puts me in a bad mindset from the start. Most of the servers have been very friendly and accommodating. The restaurant itself is very beautiful, it has an elegant modern decor and because of the low lighting and ambiance would be a great choice to take a date. Hot tea and wonton strips are provided while you wait. The menu has many choices and I've been told the sushi is fantastic. So far my favorite thing is the crab rangoon, although it's kind of a bit sweet. The chicken wings are so strangely overcooked that I can't fully understand if they're wrapped in something and then cooked or what is going on b/c it looks like a "drumstick in a blanket" rather than a chicken wing. The general gau was ...not very good at all and I guess that's just a huge disappointment to me. That being one of my favorites is usually what I use to gauge a Chinese restaurant by. The fried rice tends to be a little mushy. Eggrolls are good, hot & sour soup is good, beef teriyaki was tender. I could go down the list of items, but why waste your time and mine? I wanted to see what all the hype was about this place. Went Friday for take out lunch It's beautiful inside no doubt, clean, elegant and sheek. But was disappointed when I opened the container cover. The rice was yellow like Mexican rice, last I knew pork fried rice was brown. And only one small scoop. I guess it's good portion control but my 13 year old niece could have eaten 3 of those rice portions. Beef teriyaki skewer was so thin you can could see through it and only 1 skewer. Maybe I'm just use to where I go for Chinese, usually it's two skewers, but oh well. Crab rangoon was really tasty, the boneless spareribs were very hard I couldn't eat it. Stale fortune cookie :( I got the tangerine chicken, fried chicken pieces. It was good, very flavorful. I definitely tasted the tangerine and it was spicy which is what i like. Chicken chow mein was ok, nothing to write home about. The soup was flavorful and with 2 nice pieces of wonton. But no sliced mushroom, or scallion :( Would I go back? Probably, but not for the rice. The food is always great. My husband and I go quite often for decent affordable sushi. Tonight we had some of the worst service we have ever had at any restaurant. Our server Johnny threw down wontons and duck sauce on our table and walked away. He never introduced himself or asked if we wanted drinks. He did ask us what we wanted for dinner and we asked for one substitution because we don't like shrimp and he was so abrasive when he reacted as if we had insulted him completely. He went off after he said we would have to pay more money and that he would have to ask the chef and sounded completely annoyed we even asked. (still no drinks at this point.) I was so put off that I was afraid to ask him for anything else and 20 min later we still had nothing at our table and my husband flagged him down and asked for two waters because at this point we didn't feel as though the restaurant or server needed anymore of our money. The server brought the water back and asked us if we had ordered yet to which in utter shock we replied yes told him our order again and 5 min later he came out with the soup, salad which was quickly followed seconds later by our order. no time to enjoy the soup or salad we should have had at least 15 minutes ago. I think the server saw me start to fill out a comment card because he and every other staff member kept coming to our table to ask us how we were doing after that which at this point was too late. we will be going back for food, but will be avoiding Johnny who hopefully got the message with the tip we left him. read more

Maybe it was a bad day for them but I wasn't too happy. I ordered, A general gao chicken, pork fried rice, and some sushi, all regular orders that you would be able to get from any place. It was a pick up order, and I regret eating there. The chicken was burnt really bad, and you can smell it before you even taste it. The rice was okay, but it tasted a little sour! Then I wondered why would rice be sour in the first place. So lastly after i gave up on the chicken and the rice, I went with the sushi that I bought. Now I've had Salmon all my life, and I know when it's not fresh. That fish was certainly not fresh. It was not a satisfying meal at all. read more

We get the lo mein every visit because our toddler insists on it. They are great for takeout as well; food is always hot and ready upon arrival. OMG this is a nice place. Clean and the decor is nice and refreshing. Finally a good Chinese/Asian restaurant comes to Hemet! Reasonably priced, nice portions and excellent chow. The hot n sour soup was super and you get a nice portion. We had chicken and asparagus and chicken and vegetables in a while sauce....delicious. Egg roll was fresh and straight out of the fryer. My girlfriend and I tried this place for the first time last week instead of going to our regular spot for chinese and sushi. We were pleasantly surprised. We sat at the bar which was pretty small but that was ok. I ordered a combination plate of sesame chicken and general gaus chicken with steamed rice and she ordered a spicy tuna roll and a California roll. All the food was excellent as well as the Mai Tais that we drank. The staff was friendly and professional. I will definitely be visiting Golden Ginger soon. read more

I had gotten sick of Asian cuisine lately because of the overuse of salt and lack of flavor but a local suggested we try the Golden Ginger. Wow! First, our scorpion bowl really packed a punch- definitely worth the money. I had the sesame chicken, which was very flavorful and crispy on the outside. My boyfriend got the sizzling chicken teriyaki and we both agreed- it tasted so good we burned our tongues trying to eat it. This place is a bit more pricey than other local places but so worth it! Got take out for the first time on Saturday night at Golden Ginger and have to say it was horrible and probably the worst Chinese food we have ever had! The fried rice was so dry and overcooked the chicken fingers were so hard you couldn't even bite into them and I am thinking it was because they had been deep fried several times and the egg roll was saturated in grease. The lo mein and chow mein was just ok. We called and told them about our experience and how dissatisfied we were with the food especially the chicken fingers. They offered us a refund on our next visit which we declined as we have no intention of returning to this restaurant as it was that bad. My husband went back to the restaurant with the chicken fingers to show them how bad they were and we received a refund. read more
