Worse service ever!! The management you could tell really didn't care even after I asked to speak to him I could clearly see he didn't care. The service over the years has gone down. I felt they really discriminate against my family. I should of have known from the time the lady up front yelled at us as we where to be seated because we asked for a table for four and only had three. So we had to wait again just to be put in a tiny booth we're my shin kept hitting the bar under the table. The waitress was pleasant but everyone else around us kept getting there food. After an hour we left with no food after all we have things to do and didn't anticipate being there so long. I had to find someone so I could pay my drinks than apparently our food came in after we got up, was not offered goodwill for us to take our food nothing was comped the manager could care less no nice jester all for waste of time for some rolls and a drink! A good local comfort food spot with fried anything you want. This place is always busy, but I've always been seated quickly. They have a large dining room with a mix of booths and tables. The servers are all local high school/college kids and are very friendly. My favorite appetizer is the fried pickles served with ranch dressing for dipping. These are crispy battered and always hot out of the fryer. The chicken fried steak is the go to here. I only order the small, which is a plate full of fried goodness. They bring your plate out with large yeast rolls and a bowl of white gravy. The squash and mashed potatoes are my sides of choice. The black eyed peas are also good. Came here on a Thursday evening after touring some high schools with my colleagues, and this place was recommended by one of the Athletic Trainers we were with. Their claim to fame is "Best Country Fried Steak," and to be honest, I was never a huge country fried steak fan to begin with, but since I moved to Texas, I've developed a liking. Needless to say, I had to try it. Therefore, the 5 stars isn't for the CFS, but rather, for the outstanding service our group recieved. Our server was a young guy, and appeared to be the only guy on staff at the time, and he did work! So, while the CFS gets 3.5 stars, our server makes up for the rather over-greased CFS, and watery mashed potatoes, I had to choke down. We came from Katy to Tomball for the outstanding chicken fried steak and gravy. I normally won't eat country gravy but something about theirs makes me want it. Pretty good place. I'm in love with the decked-out cow when you walk into the place and as you walk through to get to the actual restaurant with the tables and seats, you pass through a cute gift shop where there are accessories and stuffed animals. I couldn't think of a place back home that had a gift shop within their restaurant except for maybe theme parks and Cracker Barrel. Food was delicious and according to family and friends who dined with us, the menu ad for best fried chicken steak in Texas had apparently been proven true! This place is family-oriented, great for a large party, children, and maybe a date? I wouldn't suggest it though. The attire is totally casual and comfortable. Their rolls are really delicious even though I couldn't have any that evening but I could tell. Soft and well-baked I bet. From observation of my party, they loved it. We ordered the Cheese Nachos, Fried Okra, Fried pickles, fried chicken steak, sweet potato fries, baked potato, pork chops, and a lot of other foods I cannot remember off the top of my head but if more than five meals on their menu is fantabulous then you shouldn't need to worry. The servers are really friendly, sweet, and attentive to placing orders. The only problem I had was how extremely chilly it was inside even though I had my winter coat on but the server implied that the manager had been having trouble toning down the A/C. Had to update. Previously I was very underwhelmed by the the food here. Recently I got talked into going and was very pleasantly surprised. I stayed away from the standard fried stuff and went for the "Blackened Catfish." Wow. Very delicious. I have visited this cafe several times because they do offer good country cooking. However, amidst the recent COVID-19 pandemic, I was alarmed by my encounter when picking up a take out order. Not one staff member, which included the hosts, wait staff, kitchen personnel or staff at bar, wore masks or gloves. I am a nurse, and I know the benefits as well as the recommendations by the county, mayor, and governor to wear masks when workers in public faces work places and food service. My parents drove down from Hot Springs Village, Arkansas for my godfather's"s funeral. I had asked them to meet me at Goodsons"s Cafe. It was convenient and I could get some coffee. My chicken was nice and moist and the butter beans were just perfectly cooked. Their "teriyaki" sauce was a bit puzzling...being mostly water. I even got to try the CFS and it was amazing once I added black pepper to the gravy. The yeast rolls were large and perfect with a little butter. Stopped in for lunch today. I ordered the homemade meatloaf accompanied by macaroni & cheese and fries. The meatloaf was good and had decent flavor. I didn't care for the tomato sauce topping on it - but that is just a personal preference, it didn't taste bad. My spouse ordered the small chicken fried steak. We have been to Goodsons several times over the years. I know this is a very popular place but we've always been disappointed. The "famous" chicken fried steak is nothing more than paper thin meat disguised in tons of breading. The macaroni tastes like it was made from a powder and not mixed very well. The pot roast is always super salty. Also, this establishment does not support veterans or law enforcement officers. I was told by the son of the owner that this is because they believe their prices are low enough. Since there are so many good restaurants to choose from, I don't think we'll ever go back. read more

My husband and I visit frequently. They are clean but they are not covid nazis and the staff is always extremely friendly! Feels like family. I'm a little annoyed that the last time I visited we had to wait longer because some of the tables were blocked off for cOvId *insert eye roll*...but we can all sit down, take up the same airspace, eat food prepared by someone else. But that stupid is everywhere these days and hard to avoid...overall they are friendly and I appreciate that.
