Small combo plate, can't substitute rice, even if pay more, rice tastes old, just bad.

Rip-off, $30 for one small combo plate, miso soup and small rice?! Rice tastes old, can't substitute rice even if pay more?! This place is horrible

Imperial Couple - Shrimp and scallops sauteed with ginger and scallion garnished with pea pods

On-line deals (Groupon, Living Social, other) for Gourmet Garden are really easy to find, so I decided to buy one and give the place a try. I'm glad I did! I took my Dad here for lunch - we had a choice btwn the All You Can Eat Buffet or the menu. The buffet didn't look spectacular so we opted for the menu. He ordered the Chicken Pad Thai and I ordered the Imperial Couple (Shrimp and scallops sauteed with ginger and scallion garnished with pea pods) because I had never had it before, it's a Friday in Lent and hey - I had a Groupon so why not roll the dice? My Dad's Pad Thai was remarkably one color - beige. It really could have used carrots, pea pods, parsley, *something* other than tan noodles and chicken. That said, he cleaned his plate. Mine was better than I had anticipated - it looked great and tasted really good. They asked me if I wanted to order a side of rice and I declined. No need for it. I should mention that my dish had many Thai Chili Peppers in it. I knew they were there to add heat/spice/flavor, but I couldn't resist taking a TINY bite out of one of them. After I did, approximately half of my face melted off. And this was a really tiny nibble from the pepper. So be forewarned. I paid $15 for the Groupon which gave me $30 to spend at GG. The bill came to $29.41, and my Dad and I both enjoyed our food. That's a really good deal, and one I may buy again.

    Spicy Tofu Pad Thai

Quick service, large portions, and easy to get a table. I ordered the Scallion Pancakes as an appetizer and the Spicy Tofu Pad Thai for my entree. I was blown away by the scallion pancakes, as they were genuinely the best ones I have ever had. The pad Thai was flavorful and did not skimp on the tofu. It was a perfect level of spicy as well. I would highly recommend this restaurant for a night out, as their menu is extensive and includes popular favorites ranging from Chinese to Thai to Japanese.

Food was ok. Pad Thai wasn't good. Disappointed that the soda wasn't free refills!

I have never had a bad meal here, and I always try to be adventurous and try something new each time. With that being said, I always get an order of the Chongqing diced chicken. It is one of my fave dishes of all time (be warned, it is SPICY. Not for the faint of heart). The sauteed pig intestine with chili is another fave of mine. The dining area is spacious and cute, and the staff here is always incredibly nice and knowledgeable. Very helpful when there is a lot of dishes you might not be familiar with ! When we went inside, there was only one other party there and no music, so just whispers and the sounds of utensils against plates. There are about 4-5 booths and 1-2 regular tables to choose from. Since l am not familiar with Sichuan cuisine, I had Al help me choose my dishes. I went with the dumplings in chili sauce, fried rice, eggplant in garlic sauce, and chongquin chicken. While we waited, we were given water. The dishes came out at different times. They first served us the dumplings which were really good. The sauce they were in did have some chili sauce, but it was mostly like a sweet soy sauce and really tasty. It came with about 6 dumplings with a perfectly cooked wrapper and filled with flavorful pork - simple but delicious. Next was the eggplant. I was expecting a heavy garlic presence, but it was more like a sweet and sour sauce. The eggplant was very tender, but really hot so we had to wait to let it cool down a bit. The rice came after. I honestly think this was one of my favorite dishes since it was perfectly cooked, great flavor, and good portion. Lastly, the chicken came out. There was a large pile of chicken, but half of it was peppers. The chicken was cut into little bite sized pieces, each fried perfectly. Some pieces were more tongue numbing than others but it was nothing aggressive; very gentle and comfortable numb. I would have liked if there were music, but the no music was fine too; an escape from chaotic reality. Our total was around $50, which wasn't bad for the amount of food we got. I would come back to try other items.

From the very attentive and supportive staff to the intricate details that they have throughout the restaurant , it is truly transformative experience. As for the food, if you're in the mood of something spicy, especially that Sichuan type of heat, then the beef soup is the one for you! I personally would recommend the green pepper pork because it was absolutely delicious! I could not stop eating it and it was just perfect in every which way! Looking forward to coming here again to try many other delicious foods and will probably bring a couple of more friends because their group seating is absolutely stunning!

5 for food 2 for service…read more We love the NYC version of this restaurant, and were excited to visit the Boston spot for mouth numbing dishes. Starting with an iPad menu, our ordering experience with our waiter was subpar. We ended up with extra things ordered that weren't part of our initial order. In good news the food was absolutely delicious. Everything was fire and the waiter poured 5 glasses of water for 3 of us. So we could cool down without needing to flag him down. With the only non-Asian waiter in the restaurant, he struggled with basic elements of service. Inattentive. Requests went unmet (lemons for water). We sat for more than 15 mins after asking to box up leftovers and to close our check. This was all a little embarrassing, as we brought my boyfriend's father. After singing praises of the NYC spot, this was a disappointment.

We asked for waters as well and let the waiter, who was always available, know when we needed a refill. Everything we ordered was tasty, fresh, well prepared and nicely presented. I had expected a bit more spice on some of the dishes, but they were all very mild, so if you are worried about Sichuan spiciness or heat, you can put that worry to rest. Chopsticks only are at the table and although we didn't ask for forks, I suspect they could rustle some up for you if needed. The hot & sour soup is good according to my SO who gets it everywhere (and will let me know if it's a thumbs up or down). The décor is lovely and everything is clean, including the gender neutral restroom. The staff we encountered were all very pleasant and service was excellent. They did a good amount of take out business during our visit. Free on-street parking was easy to find during our week day lunch visit.

Pieces were nicely deep fried and juicy. I also didn't find it spicy despite being told it was spicy. They charge $1.95 per bowl of rice. Overall an ok place for me. Not in a hurry to return but if I do, I'd like to explore some of their other dishes.
