Grace by Nia is a whole vibe. The decor is a beautiful. The live jazz bands and r&b singers are amazing. There is doorman that opens the door for you when going in and out of the establishment which is a nice touch. The hostess was great. The bartender was beautiful she made great drinks, i liked the Aye Aye Aye it is lit on fire! The presentation of drinks is pretty. The restaurant is sure to get packed so make sure you make reservations. If your early try to find a seat at the bar. The food had a southern or Caribbean feel. The presentation of the food was good. The food was ok I think it depends on what you order. Next time maybe I'll try the chicken and waffles. read more

It's always a shame when a business has such a great ambiance and everything else suffers. I chose this restaurant for my sister's birthday. It was the first time either of us had eaten there. I had written our reservation was to celebrate a birthday. There was no acknowledgment of a celebration or birthday at any point in time. Our reservation was for 5:15pm. The band began at 6:15pm. We opted for peach ribs and catfish for the apps. Ribs were great and fell off the bone. The catfish pieces were small in my opinion but they were ok. The catfish was heavily breaded and fried. The strawberry mojito was clear as in the mint wasn't muddled. There wasn't a hint of pink but we were told it was a strawberry mojito. The Jam Session cocktail and Jalisco cocktail were poured out at the table. Our waitress shook the shaker as hard as she could to get every last drop and so much of both drinks landed on the sides of the glasses which made for a sticky table and very sticky fingers. The oxtail grits were for the birthday girl. She said she understands it was oxtail but she did not expect so many extra little bones. It was also a tad bit sweet which she found odd but not bad. The lobster mac & cheese was disappointing but presented beautifully. The lobster was heavily breaded and deep fried which I did not expect at all. I couldn't get through it. The mac & cheese uses ritz crackers...I'll leave it at that. The chargrilled oysters were horrific. Just awful. We couldn't eat it so we had the waitress remove it from thee table. The oysters seem to be topped with cheese and perhaps torched over the top. It tasted sour and oyster is still raw. The meal was not removed from the bill. I've never experienced a restaurant keeping a meal on a bill that was sent back to the kitchen before so beware. The grilled broccolini was cooked well but very salty. Please be sure to check where your seat is when you have a reservation. When I made the reservation, I did not see the option to select seating location but when I asked for a booth, I was told I selected another seating type. I ended up having my back to the stage. Another sister came to have a drink with us before she had to leave at 6pm. We were still charged $25 per person even though she did not get to experience the band. We thought this was strange so we asked our waitress and she said everyone gets charged no matter what. I asked my waitress multiple times for water. At one point she walked past us with water for the next table and I had to remind her again for water. I'm assuming she was busy and truly forgot. For the 2hrs we were there, we had our water refilled once. I couldn't get through the fried lobster so I asked for it to go. This restaurant takes your food to the back and boxes in on your behalf. Given how small the tables are, I was grateful. For the seaport pricing, I was shocked the doggy bags were a plain paper bag. I've actually had Chinese takeout with tougher bags. All in all, I actually feel bamboozled. It makes me sad considering I ordered so much on my first visit in an effort to support this new restaurant. I should've checked on photos and reviews before selecting this restaurant. I would've been happier at a Del Friscos or steakhouse. I've never spent $400 at a restaurant and left hungry. I gave my lobster mac & cheese to my brother in law. I hope he can eat it. I'll be having cereal for dinner. The worst of it all, I just wanted to treat my sister to a nice dinner with her jazz music since it is her favorite. She said in Boston we can buy $25 tickets to see an artist in Boston and at least we'd get a singer instead of a single hour of instrumental jazz. Oh - they told us we needed to give up our table at the 2hr mark so we truly had 1 single hour of music. I'll never return but I do hope others have a better experience than we did. I've thought about this review quite a bit and still feel torn. We can kick it off with what most people seem to be upset about and that's the entertainment fee. While it is stated on their website, it's a little hard to find, but you can read about it on their FAQ page. That being said, it is expensive and you really only get about 45 minutes of actual music time between when the music actually starts (early reservations will have to wait until 6 or 6:15 for music to start) or the artists taking a break/changing. Tables are tightly packed and it does feel a bit crowded. We had a booth on the floor (Premium Dining) and comfortably ate meals with drinks. If you are on the main floor (not a booth), you will not have table space to eat a full meal. 2 drinks and an app maybe. You are also limited in your table time...I believe 2 hours. It's understandable so the place isn't full of campers. I know the restaurant needs to make money, but it does take a bit of the joy out of the experience knowing you have to leave soon...and a bit of added stress to order and eat in time, especially if it's packed and servers are busy. The food was great! I loved the carrot cake chicken and waffles. I found the cocktails to be too sweet but my husband loved them! I stuck to wine. We loved our server and the dining room manager stopped by to say hi and check in as well. Very friendly. And, of course, the space is stunning. It's completely immersive with several statement pieces that were imported, custom-made or hand-picked by the owner. Really really beautiful. Overall, we remain torn. We had fun but ultimately have a hard time justifying the price, especially after paying for Seaport parking. It's a unique experience but we walked away feeling a little robbed. We had a large party last night for a birthday party! Our servers were extremely nice and attentive, they catered to us with speed and efficiency. We reserved the back tables and everything was beautiful. The live music was lovely and the singer came through the restaurant as she performed making you feel like you were part of the performance. We had a family style dinner with our large party and the food was SO GOOD!! I don't know where to begin because everything was delicious. But some of my favorites were the Smoked Deviled Eggs, Caribe Yard Bird (the seasoning on the chicken!!), Blackened Shrimp & Polenta (the creamy tomato gravy!!) and the Curry Coconut Melange was also so full of flavor! This was a little expensive, even for our large party, but it was a great experience and we will have great memories from this evening! OH! And the drinks were cute as heck! read more

Grace By Nia recently opened in the Seaport, and I encourage you to give it a try, especially if you are curious. Just go for it! I finally had the opportunity to visit, close to opening time - a lot of workers clustered together, empty, so seating was ample, and it felt like multiple things were happening at once. After my party and I were seated, things started to incline. We ordered alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks - according to my guests, they enjoyed the two drinks that come with fire. I had a free spirit drink called Pear Pressure that I did not enjoy. Flavor profiles did not mesh well for me. My guests enjoyed the food, the ambiance and the live music (which you can see from live or from a TV, depending on where you sit). From my perspective, the food was solid, certainly enjoyed the decor, live music is good but if you're not close enough, it can be hard to hear and carry a conversation, even with waiters. Something I absolutely appreciate is the hospitality that was shown to guests. Things to note: - Certain days and times will have a charge added to your bill for live entertainment - Bathrooms are outside of the establishment and around the corner, not private but shared - There is construction happening on the same floor as Grace By Nia -- might be a movie theater coming! There was a hair in my food, and I had to wait for a second dish. They just said "sorry" and moved on. Restaurants like this should be inspected. They did not offer any discount and charged the full price with tip included. The manager brushed it off like saying sorry was enough and acted like this was normal. This time we opted we for front seating by the stage (do not recommend this table) Drinks : Yu-zo-fly 7/10 The drink was good but was not strong for $23 Opted for don Julio blanco with pineapple juice 8/10 Stronger but not worth the money but they are located in seaport so I guess it's to be expected Food : Catfish bites 9/10 The flavor is really good but they could be fried just one minute longer and the portion could be bigger. Maryland hot Crab dip : 10/10 Very good with the perfect amount of crap and cheese. It was served extremely hot & with ritz crackers and bread pieces. I preferred the bread over the crackers Chargrilled oysters : 5/10 These had great potential but they were not fresh. The cheese was hard and they were room temperature. Also, they done a serve any dipping sauce with the wings. 6 wings for $22 is ridiculous especially when they didn't come with a garnish, dipping sauce nor sides. Cajun jambalaya: 6/10 Extremely spicy and small portion for $34 it was too spicy to enjoy Lobster Mac 2/10 I opted for this item without the ritz crumble because it does not go on Mac and cheese ! The cavatappi pasta was cooked perfectly but the flavor was not there at all. The only seasoning appeared to be salt & pepper but it absolutely not worth $45. The lobster tail was a decent size but was terribly breaded and fried. It was drenched in oil and nothing else. I asked the waitress to remove this from the table. Oxtails 5/10 I got these in place of the lobster Mac & they were slightly better. They were seasoned as if it was pot roast and they were not tender at all. The flavor had potential but not for oxtails. There wasn't a hint of molasses in there Cheesecake with peach cobbler topping 6/10 Small portion & not peach cobbler topping at all The service was lacking, but I did determine that our waitress was only on her second day. She didn't know the menu too well which is to be expected. I had to constantly ask to for the empty plates & cups to be cleared from the table, and multiple times before it got done. We had to ask for napkins and just little things that should come with dining. The $50 entertainment fee wouldn't be a problem had they not congregated next to our table any time they weren't performing. I mean LITERALLY standing right next to our table just yelling & laughing while we are trying to dine. I believe someone asked them to move out of the walkway and they took that as an opportunity to move behind me and bang on the counter to the beat of the songs the whole time. It's as if they had no regard for anyone else other than themselves. Overall I would come back for appetizers but not for any of the entrees. They could also benefit from a better menu & fully training the staff before they're let on the floor solo. $350 for 6 drinks, 4 appetizers & one and a half entrees. The only reason I gave this place another shot was because my wife's friend wanted to have her birthday party here. The event was scheduled for 9:00 PM, but we weren't seated until 10:00 PM. My partner had the drink with jalapeno tequila, which was sadly not spicy at all. We had the fried green tomatoes and collards to start. The green tomatoes needed more of the toppings (red onion, etc) so it could have been spread out over more bites than one. The collards were good, but the sauces were dull. If I knew it was going to be ranch, duck and chipotle mayo I might have ordered something else. I then had the Cobb which was really good, and my partner loved his shrimp and polenta dish. We ordered drinks (they were decent). We ordered the catfish bites which were tasty. We then ordered the Mac and Cheese, the Jalapeno cornbread, the Creole Pasta, and the Two-Piece Chicken and Biscuit. After about 30 minutes, the Mac and Cheese, Creole Pasta, and Two-Piece Chicken and Biscuit came out. The waiter then started to bring out the Jalapeno Cornbread. Looking at the food already on our table and the fact that we were leaving town in a few hours, we couldn't take any leftovers. We immediately told the waiter that we did not need the Jalapeno Bread because we won't be able to eat it. The waiter said "you can't take it back once you ordered it". Huh? I've never heard that before. The waiter begrudgingly took the cornbread back to the kitchen. After the meal, the check arrived and the cornbread was still on the bill. The waiter said he spoke to the manager and was told not to remove the cornbread. We asked to speak to the manager. When he came to our table, we asked him to remove the cornbread from the bill. Get this Yelp: he said, "if you ordered it and I made it, then you will get billed for it". Yelp Fam, I've been dining all over the world in over 35 countries and I've never heard anyone say that to me before. So if it's prepared and it's overcooked/undercooked/tasted badly and I didn't want it, I'm still getting charged for it? Sir, you're absolutely delusional. It wasn't worth making a scene over, so we abruptly ended the conversation as he tried to explain his rationale (we didn't care to hear anything he had to say after that). Unfortunately, I couldn't leave a tip due to the ridiculousness of this situation since it put a very bad taste in my mouth. You gained $10, but you just lost a bunch of future business that my recommendation would have given your establishment. By the way, the Two-Piece Chicken/Biscuit, the Mac and Cheese tasted "OK" and the Creole Pasta was good, but the latter dish gave me some severe stomach pains the next day. Reading other reviews, I see that other patrons complained about some questionable restaurant policies. Please do your research on their policies before attending. I really wanted to like this place because I love southern food and the menu reminded me of New Orleans, and I loved the food there. The oysters were tiny, had no flavor and the cheese was hard. The wings just tasted sweet and idk what they were battered in it had a flaky texture but I did NOT like that. The ribs also just tasted really sweet...it didn't have a balance of other flavors. The lobster Mac n cheese was bland. Nothing was memorable and it was pricey so I'm annoyed I spent a lot of money just to not like at least one thing. I don't mind spending money on food either. I never waste food and I usually pack it but I told my cousin to take it all home. I also don't like that they charge a $10 entertainment fee per person for days they have live music which I was very aware of before coming but they seated us near the door so you can't even see the live music you would have to watch them on their tv but really a fee?! First things first is it a restaurant or a jazz club lol you want us to pay an "entertainment fee" cool but let it b good entertainment. Why the drummer got on a fitted b cap and he look like he was jus pulled from the audience to play lol. I'm all for paying entertainers but to have a fee on top of the high prices make it worth my money! I'm already paying $42 for parking and $25 if I wanna be front and center that's before food and drinks included so I expect a higher level of entertainment for my money. Food is weird who do you know putting black eyed peas in a Cobb salad &&don't get me started on the seating and the lack of space you can literally eat off your neighbors plate because the tables basically touch! our lemon drops were half filled and our waitress told us if we want it filled to the brim we will get charged extra ma'am this is a martini it's supposed to be filled to the brim that's just common sense the waitress took the drinks never asked if we wanted another drink. A-mazing!! There's now way this restaurant should ever be below 5 stars. I am still a the restaurant with my husband and I had to write this review before we headed out. This was our first time here. Ashanti was killing her live music, service was amazing and the food was was top notch. I ordered the catfish nuggets and lobster Mac and cheese with a bottle of Pinot. While the food was tasty and flavorful when I attend it was for an event and the staff the had working were wildly unprofessional and lack serving skills. We were not cashed out correctly she ran the bill without our confirmation and found out that she actually ran someone else card. I will attempt to give Grace by Nia another chance but this was very hard to experience. Grace by Nia is a place Boston needed so bad. Amazing decor, great atmosphere, attentive staff, and love the home grown feel to it. Love the Wednesday open mic nights, all of the talent was so good. The food was pretty good (a little in the pricey side for what you get) you also have to pay an entertainment fee for the performances ($50) which is different to say the least. So the only real downside is pricing in my opinion. Outside of that you will have a wonderful time. Try the chicken app it was great. The deviled eggs were ok, I think I'm used to relish inside of mine so it tasted different for me but hands down one of the best grits I ever had with oxtails, delicious!!!! I only wish there were more grits in the meal. The shrimp pasta is great, you get a bunch of colossal shrimp. It's a must try and the only place like it in the city. This was my first visit. Very unpleasant experience. Food was sub par. My ribs were cold. They took it back and microwaved it too much. Burning hot and dried out. Mac and cheese was bone dry. We had to ask for extra sauce that arrived after we boxed the food up. As soon as the waitress returned with the reheated ribs she was suddenly uninterested in us. Her attitude shifted. She disappeared until it was time to drop off the bill. Then she started rushing us. I shared my concern with the manager Tyler. He said sorry and walked away. He was uninterested. I asked for a business card so I could share my concerns, giving him the benefit of the doubt that he's probably too busy to connect with us, and he says "what do you want me to do about it? I want to say that we went to Grace by Nia with very high expectations. I must add that we went with intent of seeing the band that was playing that night. That being the case, I was thrilled to immediately be seated a few minutes after our reservation time right in front of the stage! The band started playing and the cocktails and food came out fairly quickly. In short, apps and drinks were ok. As a reminder, we were there for the music. When we asked for the bill, it was higher than expected due to the entertainment fees. I will say that they have a sign at hostess stand to remind everyone of said fees but what got us is the fact that we paid $300 (inclusive of fees/tip) only to be asked to hastily leave our table. The FAQs do say two hour table limitation but it felt wrong in every way possible to be told "we need your table!" So my BF and I dutifully walked to the bar area with my unfinished martini in hand. As I stated at the onset, we went for the band and really wanted to watch the rest of their set so we stood but it just didn't feel right especially after having paid so much! Bottom line, I really think management needs to reconsider their seating strategy. As for us, we might go back but will eat elsewhere before stopping in for a cocktail or two ...even then, we will have to pay the added $10 bar fee! I decided to try Grace by Nia's Sunday brunch this past weekend. The ambience, entertainment, and overall location was nice. Our waitress was super sweet, knowledgeable and accommodating. We sat in the main stage section. The table was so small that we could barely fit our food and drinks. We had to place our sparkling water on the floor to accommodate our entrees. The brunch menu was very limited and did not have many vegan options for my friend. My friend ordered the mushroom étouffée that was accompanied by grits and the Cajun home fries. She informed the waitress she had a dairy allergy and asked if she could confirm the items were ok to consume. The waitress returned and informed her the grits; even though listed as vegan, were made with buttermilk and there was cross contamination with the Cajun home fries bc they were in fact fried in the same grease as the meat. What? How is that a vegan option? My friend decided to get the grilled grapefruit and the mushroom etouffee, omitting the grits. Why did they still charge her the full price for mushroom with peppers and onions? Not cool. The food came out, and let's just say there was no," Hashafashasha" while taking the first bite. The food was lukewarm. Food should be hot when it's freshly made. The drinks were good, but $16.00 for sangrias is a bit over the top. I really wanted to like this establishment since it's blacked owned, but this just wasn't it. Paying $10.00 for half of a grapefruit slapped a grill, sprinkled with honey and powered sugar is not it. I'm sure the grapefruit was also grilled on the same grill as everything else. The food was lackluster, and had no flavor at all. My cornbread had no taste! Not one once of sweetness, and very bland. If you are going to advertise vegan options, please make sure they are truly vegan. I felt so bad for my friend, i opted to pay for the parking. The staff also lingers around, taking things away from your table while still eating. I understand there is a two hour limit,but the hovering around makes you feel rushed. We came here for a quick bite! We shared the Mac and cheese and ribs and it was plenty to share. Especially if you don't want a to-go box. I reviewed the Yelp before so we somewhat strategically ordered the Mac and cheese and ribs because what's what got the highway reviews. I can say that these were a HIT. Easily 7/10 for the Mac and cheese and 8/10 for the ribs. Due to the size and drinks rating we decided to skip on that. I would absolutely return and try something new. The staff was incredibly nice and accommodating when we asked to move our table a bit to get more space. I'm sure this is noted below but the seats right in-front of band are really for listening. I would highly recommend not booking those seats for catching up with friends or a work dinner in which you are hoping to have a conversation. The high top seats are a bit quieter but I would say still very very very hard to have a conversation. I would absolutely return. The ribs were $18 and the Mac and cheese were $12. I got a spot hero across the bridge on for $10. I believe this lot does. $12 for entry between 5pm and 3am. Overall the restaurant was a great vibe.
