The chef and cashier were kind, welcoming, patient, and knowledgeable about what they have to offer as well as what is popular or what their own favorites are which is always wonderful. I tried out a classic iced coffee with a splash of vegan califia oat milk and their delicious avocado egg breakfast bagel sandwich, and everything was fresh and filling. However, this cafe is very small, somewhat crowded yet very clean, and there isn't much room to sit down so I believe it's great for people who are in a rush and want something to grab and go, which works out perfectly. I am all for supporting local businesses and this is one is must since what they offer is simple yet delightful and affordable with a wide range of selections from vegan to gluten free options and more. On February 29, 2023 I went to Grace Coffee for a "black coffee." When I asked the barista for a "large black coffee." He made it into a race issue and asked if I wanted the "Martin Luther King Jr. Special?" I do not like being made into a joke for a barista's amusement. I felt uncomfortable and awkward. I did not know how to react to the racial tension created by the barista and I just wanted the conversation between us to end. Considering how many other coffee shops are in the area I suggest going to those to avoid this issue. Grace coffee needs to teach their employees to respect customers and they do not like any attempt to provoked racial tensions. read more

I fancied a local coffee stop before an all day meeting at the convention center, and I was very happy with the...chagaccino! The "chaga" is derived from a fungus that grows on certain trees, and is associated with numerous purported health benefits. I stopped in for brunch and ordered a berry salad minus the meat and cheese and a "healer" smoothie. Both were excellent so I came back later for a chai latte with oat milk. It was perfect! The staff were energetic and friendly. I enjoyed hanging out for awhile! The greens and berries on the salad were super fresh. I stumbled acrossed this spot the other day while I was staying at the Hyatt Regancy. I wemt for a coffee run and was walking around in search of a decent mocha and saw the sign from down below when I poped in. I actually ordered two mochas. One regular and one white chocolate. I have to say that this place does have superior flavor from just about every coffee shop that I've found in that little radius. 1 The staff is extremely friendly and they will have a conversation with you unlike the people at the starbucks in town. The place is also super clean and has an inviting atmosphere with great little outdoor seating areas as will. Starbucks is already getting pricey, but that particular one charges like the Starbucks in airports or theme parks. Earlier in the day, the wait was ridiculous. 16 min from order to drink. It wasn't until later that I saw Grace Coffee Roasters. The line was considerably shorter, and so was the wait. They had a Mexican hot chocolate that I wish came in caffeinated form, but c'est la vie. Someone recommended the white chocolate mocha, stating it was their favorite ever. It's good, but not the best ever. Overall, I think Grace is worth your while, if for no other reason, than it'll probably save you a dollar versus across the street. I was out at lunch trying to figure out where to go (instead of my usual two places) when I see two ladies walking by me and in their hands was this amazing looking salad! I shouted out to them and asked where they got it and they pointed to Grace Coffee! I make my way there and there isn't a line! It's super cute inside and a bit small but some seating if you want to eat and drink your coffee there. I only saw two salads on their menu so I decided on the Apple Cobb Chicken salad and my oh my it is delicious! It has the right blend of sweet with the apples and the dressing and the perfect salty crunch with large bacon strips! The different blends of textures with the cheese and cherry tomatoes also added to the salad! I can't wait to try the berry salad! Overall I dropped off one star because they took a while to get my salad to me! But I guess I know it's made fresh. This place is awesome. It's convenient as it's on the ground floor of my work building. I'm always stopping in at least 2-3 times a week for their soup or salad. They also have great bagels and they carry my favorite Miss Vickie's chips. They are a coffee shop so they have lots of drinks! I just started customizing my salads as I am a pretty picky eater. I do wish they had more options or changed up their menu every now and then. It can definitely get pricey if you go here every day but considering the location I get why that is. (Just Across The Street From The Convention Center Starbucks! ;) SITREP "We love it when the Convention Starbucks gets too busy with Con-patrons cause they all come over here when they are overloaded!", says the Manager. And I can totally see that! I am embarrassed to admit that I have TOTALLY missed, ignored, bypassed (whatEV) this delightful coffee shop on all my walks from my home in Midtown as I walk to the Capitol Park, or blitz to the ESQUIRE IMAX theatre just around the corner, or am coming from the Sheraton Grande that shares the block with this delicious little bit of mecca. THE SETUP First off, if you are trying to find it by the listed address as given on Yelp - "1215 K St" - let's just say that THAT is f*cked and absolutely no help to locating this shop. That MAY be the address for the HUGE ESQUIRE BUILDING that takes up much of this block, but it is NOT the physical spot of this coffee shop that actually faces out to the Convention Center across 13th street. A better designated address would be "1025 13th Street", so that you at least would be looking for the front of the store - and it's public entrance - with a proper, and far more accurate GPS orientation. To bring it home, if you are more familiar with the entrace/exit of the parking garage behind the Sheraton Grande, this sweet coffee shop is just on the other side of that from Sheraton, right before you turn the corner onto K Street Mall and hit the Esquire IMAX. THE COFFEE The house brew I received is absolutely delicious! I got a small and it was only $1.85: full-bodied; fantastic aroma; a wonderful "go-to" brew. But the 1-Star deduction (for what would otherwise be a raving 5-star review) is basically for my wanting initially a sugar-FREE Mocha, but followed by uncertainty by the two lovely ladies about how to go about making that. In fairness, this is no different than many other indie coffee shops where apparently having "pre-made syrups" - most of the time WITH sugar, and not WITHOUT - often creates this scenario where departing from that pre-made regimen creates a problem if staff isn't trained on alternative preferences that "don't fit the mold of the majority." [And which honestly is why I'll still patronize Peet's and Starbucks, because at least they have the sugar-free option down-pat & available on high-end coffee drinks.] It is what it is. Ahh Grace coffee with your strong, velvety espresso and your delicious addicting crushed ice, how can I not want to see you every day? I discovered this little coffee haven across from the Convention Center recently. It is slightly landlocked, on 13th street between J and K Street, and you have to park on the street or in a garage and walk in. It is in the bottom of the Esquire building and next door to the Sheraton. Walking in, it is small, with only a 2-top table and a small couch with coffee table. Snacks on the left, fresh pastries in the case, and a small coffee counter. This is a nice space, created with a modern design in mind. Great floors and wall murals. As noted, the espresso is velvety and strong, no bitterness or smoke tones. It is difficult for me not to drink down anything they hand me within 30 seconds. They have a ton of syrups (sugar free white chocolate, oh yes!) and even draw pretty designs in the foamy milk. Now about the ice: If you love good, crunchy ice in your drinks, this is the place to be. The ice is the kind you get at Sonic- small little round snowballs, and crunchy. Sometimes people even ask for an extra cup as it is so good for crunching. I can just crunch on that ice alone and be a happy camper! I have had iced lattes, flavored coffee, sugar free mocha's, and straight espresso over ice with cream (breve'?). Everything is amazing. I do have my favorite place for coffee, however when I am downtown, this is it! The barista's are always friendly and work their tails' off. There is never more than 2 working, so sometimes there is a wait, but they work fast and get out the drinks as fast as they can. There is always a smile, and a hello and they remember who you are and what drink you like best. There are benches outside to relax and people watch (it is across from the Convention Center after all) or take it to go. This is a great little place with delicious drinks and an alternative to the big chains. read more

Being so close to my hotel and having such good reviews I decided to try Grace Coffee Roasters. I ordered their dark hot brew, which in my opinion taste better than any chains like Starbucks which is across the street. What really impressed me was their bagel. I ordered a jalapeno bagel with cream cheese. I know this sounds simple but it was amazing. I don't know what it was but it was probably the best jalapeno bagel I've ever had.
