Had to stop in one more time in the Grove before they close. We typically visit either location based on proximity of our location. I loved this original location but love Crestwood, too. Great cod, I love it. It was pretty busy with diners, but we were lucky to be only a few in line. Order at the counter, cashier today was super friendly and that always sets the tone. I went with fried chicken livers as an app and 2 piece fried catfish with fries. I went with the special cocktail, too. Livers arrived; they are all for me! I ate a few and then saved the rest for a snack later. They are fried, but not greasy, a light breading with good flavor. My drink was delivered, I was a little nervous about cherry and orange together, but it was quite good, very refreshing. My picture of the drink name didn't save properly but I think it was the Island Dream, don't quote me on it, though! Food delivered hot and fresh, I got some tarter sauce from the condiment/ drink bar area but I used the Crystal hot sauce, too. The catfish was fresh, crispy, and delicious. The fries were ok this time. I got a bunch of crunchy ones. Everything was good, might try to stop in for Brunch on Saturday but it will probably be crazy! Go experience the Grove and know you can get a lot of the great food at the Crestwood location next time!
Grace Meat + Three is a known quantity here in the STL, to the point where I had to check and see if I'd ever reviewed it. I've been there once or twice over the years, and I've eaten from the food truck once or twice. The fried chicken is fine but kinda underwhelming. It's good, but not to the point where it justifies the price. It's served on a metal tray, on a piece of wax paper, as if it were premium Texas barbecue, but at the end of the day, it's not barbecue. It's just fried chicken. The dirty little secret of fried chicken is that it's not especially hard to make decent-quality fried chicken. They sell it at gas stations, in grocery stores. Popeyes employees lacking in basic life skills, whom you wouldn't trust to make a cup of coffee, routinely crank out a product as good as anything else you can get in a restaurant. Not that I'm complaining. I love Grace! It's where I go when my "bad" cholesterol is too low and the balance in my checking account is too high. I'm at a problematic and yet gratifying state of equlibrium after yesterday's visit. I already kinda knew that I wasn't going to bother with the chicken, but I could hardly read the menu. I almost went with a half-chicken just to avoid having to squint. They've got one of those backlit screens, like at a McDonald's (where everyone just uses the kiosk now anyway), but with worse fonts and less line-spacing. I'm sure they paid a premium for it back in '06 or whatever. Everything in this place is peak stomp clap-era millennial optimism, from back when guys were dressing as lumberjacks. Of course there's a random, incongruous smash burger on the menu. They may or may not be playing Mumford & Sons on the Muzak. I figured the chicken sandwich, called the OG Crispy, would be a good opportunity to compare it to the famous chicken sandwich at the aforementioned Popeyes. Also, it comes with fries, which spared me from having to take out a loan on my house to purchase them a la carte. At $16 (I think), it'll definitely run you, but in general, the prices here seem less ridiculous than they used to. It's still entirely too much, but somehow not much more than you'd spend at a fast food restaurant. Are the fries that come with a sandwich the same size that they are if you order them separately? Supposedly, the a la carte side feeds two. I couldn't imagine two people sharing the side that comes with the OG Crispy. Someone might get cut! It was a perfectly fine size for just me. They're seasoned with some sort of blend that's heavy on the black pepper. I would have been fine with just salt, but this was no dealbreaker. The OG Crispy was great! Was it better than the chicken sandwich at Popeyes? It's hard to say. It's probably a better quality piece of chicken. Similar size. Expertly prepared: nice and crisp on the outside and not overcooked on the inside, which is key for white meat. You're given the choice of regular or hot. I of course went with the hot. I wish the sauce had more tang to it, but it was surprisingly and delightfully hot. Spicy foods in non-ethnic restaurants are so often nerfed, for children and, erm, non-ethnics. A few people at my table had the po boys, both shrimp and catfish. They looked really good, and not as skimpy as they look in some of the photos posted here. I might have to try one, once my LDL subsides and my financial situation recovers. Sandwiches might be the thing to get here. Not that you can truly go wrong with anything.
I really enjoyed my experience here. It was pleasant, low chatter from the guests. The ambiance was chill. I love that they went with navy blue as the color for their walls and it was a nice touch of vintage decorum. The place service is that you will order, they will give you a number to place on your table and a server will deliver your food to you. The following food me and my wife: Chicken wing plate- My wife enjoyed her meal. I tried her chicken and it was a bit spicy. Chicken fried Chicken plate- It was lightly crisp, and tender. Mac n cheese- Spicy, noodles a little tough, would have wanted the cheese to be firm. Collard greens- taste just like my wife's....so good! Sweet potato- mashed to perfection! Cornbread- sweet and good. King cake shake- just like the cake from good ol' New Orleans. Oatmeal creme Cookie- Lovely
I visited your restaurant last month and decided to try the special of the month which was the Horseshoe. It turned out to be an absolute hit, fulfilling all my cravings for the day! You truly outdid yourselves with this dish. I'll definitely be coming back again, as I've never been disappointed with your food yet!
The foodie in me did a considerable amount of research prior to my trip to the St. Louis area. Grace Meat + Three was high on my list of places to visit. My daughter and I arrived, stood at the counter, and waited to be seated, but this is an "order at the counter and take your number to the table" type of establishment, which seems to be a popular business model in the area. We stepped out of line to decide on what to order. I settled on the Catfish Meal Deal (hot) and a side of Fried Brussels Sprouts. There was a sauce station with an array of options. I'm a saucy lady, so I helped myself to the Dilly Tartar Sauce, Tasty Ranch and Comeback Sauce. There was also Sweet Whiskey BBQ and Alabama White Sauce. The sauce bottles were labeled with dates that gave us a bit of pause, but the bottles were cold, so we proceeded. The dining area had Southern-charm, and the other guests all appeared to be enjoying themselves. The staff were all very kind and helpful and we enjoyed our meals so much that we both placed to-go orders to enjoy at our hotel room later that evening. My daughter ordered wings to-go and I ordered the Grace Burger. Unfortunately, while eating my burger later that night with a knife and fork, I found a long strand of hair embedded in the burger patty, which caused me to discard it after those few unfortunate bites. Were it not for this, I would've given them 5 stars.
Food: amazing! This was some flavorful, soul food right here! Greens were fire!! Mac & cheese..fire!!! I had the smoked wings which were delicious, except that I would get them with the relish, and drizzle on the side.Shrimp were good size, and tender!! The fish was cornmeal (which I'm ok with), and it was fried to perfection! My only problem with the food was my a la carte fried chicken wings. He needed some help. It was cold, and rubbery. Needed to be fried a minute or two longer IMO. Not a big fan of tipping before I even get my food, so I have to remember that when you have to order, pay, and optional tip before you even sit down. I like the overall appearance of the place. Very clean, and everyone was very nice. Definitely going back! Sorry about the half eaten food in the pics. Lol!!!
This atmosphere is somewhat southern charm mixed with chic. Touches of southern accents sit in the windows and on the walls. It's very homey and fresh! However, The main star of the show. The Chicken. I got the chicken sandwich and I'm telling you I cannot wait to go try just the fried chicken next. Crispy. Seasoned. Bursting with flavor! I got original and not spicy cause I'm a wimp but the sauces you can get on the sandwich. The comeback sauce for the fr and the hot and honey for the chicken. You can't change my mind. The fries were crispy and salty and seasoned to literal perfection. We also tried their bologna sandwich which is featured on the Netflix show 'Fresh, Fried, and Crispy' so we had to get it. My boyfriend loved it so much he mentions it all the time. Fried pickles were fantastic and I cant wait to try the rest of their menu!
Atmosphere was vibrant and music sublime. The oldies and soul that gets you really enjoying your company and the food? This place had it. I got the fish and spaghetti, hubby got the grilled fish and "Grandma's cornbread," and mom in law got wings, mac and cheese and greens. Latter not pictured here but they enjoyed overall. Mentioned greens had too many stems in them and chicken could have been seasoned more. My entree was perfectly seasoned! If in the area stop by for efficient and friendly service!
Grace Meat + Three was probably one of the best spots I've ever had! It's super close to SLU, and I got the Grace Burger, which was really tasty, but I think I preferred the fried chicken sandwich. It was so crispy, probably one of the best chicken sandwiches I've had in a while! We had sides of cornbread and mac and cheese, and the mac and cheese was divine: perfect flavor, pasta, and breadcrumbs. The interior is super family-friendly, lots of kids and families when I went, and the staff was so sweet. Parking can be a bit tricky, but it's absolutely worth it!
Reunited and it feels so good! I met up with some friends for an early brunch on Sunday and was craving some southern food. I've only been to Grace once and that was four years ago. As a matter of fact, the last time I was there, they had a somewhat limited menu. This time, I went with the shrimp meal which comes with 1 side ( I chose cornbread) and got an addtl side of Brussel sprouts. For a party of four, our food came relatively quick. The first bite of shrimp was interesting as I tasted majority batter and very little shrimp. While flavorful, it was a tad underwhelming. While the shrimp may have been a letdown, the cornbread and Brussel sprouts were anything but. The cornbread was moist and resembled a slick of cake due to its thickness and consistency. The sprouts had the perfect combination of char, balsamic, Parmesan, and spices. Overall, I was more than pleased with the service and food. I can't wait to come back.
Would have rated a 5 if it weren't for the service. The girl was very rude and was LITERALLY texting in between taking our order. There were five of us, after each one she would stop and text. While we were sitting down, two guys came in that hadn't been there before. She didn't look up or greet them, they just stood there and she was texting. We were one of the only people in there. Food was great as always!! I wish they had a "mild" spice. It goes from no spice, to hot, to extra hot. I like spicy and the hot was so spicy I could barely eat it. Quiet inside and plenty of seating for everyone.
I absolutely love grace meat! We've been going for years now and I have probably tried it all. The kitchen sink salad is unreal. The deviled egg in the salad, the onions, the cornbread crumbs takes it up a notch. I love the fries and chicken sandos as well. Super fresh and juicy chicken. The service is always wonderful. We love sitting at the bar for the experience. 10/10 place!
Casual dining in a restaurant setting. You order at the front and the deliver your food. Good service. I felt the food was ok. The Hominy Lager was tasty. The cornbread tasted a little too dense. The bologna sandwich which this place is known for was basically a thick cut of ham with egg. I think I was expecting my taste buds to have Oscar Meyer old school tastes.

I ended up here on Mother's Day for dinner with friends. There was a Blues Game on at the bar and I was initially worried about volume as everywhere seemed to be seated next to a speaker, but I was delighted to be proved wrong! The bar is designed in such a way that all the noise stays over there. For Sunday dinner, we got in, seated, and eating pretty quickly. The space is truly unique but the food is what really shines through. I got the fried chicken with the Mac n cheese and mashed potato sides. My friend is Gluten Free but had no problem ordering and had a wide selection. She'd been craving bread and was delighted to find their cornbread was GF. I also love anywhere that has Excel sodas, and they had a great selection! Everything was delicious and filling and totally worth the price. I will gladly be back soon. read more

Went at 4:30 on a Saturday, essentially no line and plenty of open seats. Food (half bird, 'everything but the kitchen sink' salad) was delicious; came out to be about $30 for two people. read more

Great spot. I love the decorations and all the wood. This used to be Sweetie Pies. The food is delicious. Sometimes it's hit or miss with the seasoning. Particularly the collard greens. The mash potatoes were good. Not completely whipped but still good. Gravy could have had some more seasoning. Chicken wings are so crispy and good! Hot sauce is in packets. The dessert was good, very rich. The friend cat fish is flaky and delicious. This is the spot to come for delicious friend food. read more

Had to try this restaurant after hearing it won best fried chicken in Missouri by the Food Network. So my longtime play Mom & I went & really enjoyed it. Service was key as well. I'll definitely go back. But I'd say the collard greens were my actual favorite. read more

Good food, a fun & casual vibe, and a modern rustic kind of motif. Country ham deviled eggs are amazing with the everything spice & herbs giving them a rich, satisfying flavor. Cathead biscuit was indeed the size of a cat's head. Dense but not overly so, moist and just begging for the butter and jam to top it off. Fried chicken was juicy and flavored throughout the meat, with a nice crunchy coating that clung well to the bird. Half bird order means you'll be taking half of that home after you've also had shareables and sides. Herb roasted beef was highly flavored with a good savoriness. The herbs gave a deep flavor. However, I would have liked the meat to have been a bit more tender with less gristle. Mashed potatoes were excellent - creamy and more buttery as you worked you way down to the bottom. Collard greens were satisfactory, but I didn't care for inclusion of the larger stems and would have liked a bit more spice and/or vinegar to pep up the flavor some. Cracklin corn bread was huge, very heavy/dense, and very moist/buttery, and had the great cornbread sweetness. Don't know how some other reviewers got dry, bland pieces - must have been on off days. Ours was very good. And the cracklin topping was made to just peel off and eat separately. read more

First time here & I'll definitely be back! Deviled eggs had a nice southern spin on them with the pimento cheese. The pea & mushroom fricasse was good...kind of like a very thick soup or gravy consistency with tons of mushrooms, peas, & leaks. I split the chicken & waffles with a friend...the chicken is definitely the highlight here, perfectly cooked; we expected a Belgian waffle but it was a very thin waffle instead. Lastly the 3 of us each ordered a different hand pie so we could try all 3...chocolate was amazing with the cinnamon & chili flavors and tons of brûléed meringue on top. Strawberry rhubarb was a tie with chocolate only bc that is one of my all-time favorites. Lemon rounded them up for me. Only feedback I'd give was they really just needed a drizzle of icing instead of being completely covered in it. Anyhow, delicious all around & I left in a food coma! read more

I am not even going to lie to you, Foodies... I love everything Rick and Elisa Lewis have done or been a part of... One of the first things that ever stood out to me is that Rick remembers EVERYONE... (even if he is faking it, you'll never know it)... he comes out of the kitchen and greets you, he does all the things - all the things necessary to make you feel like you're a regular at one of his joints. Hugs, playing with the kids, and remembers where he met you from... All Lewis (and Elisa & family's Quincy Street Bistro) ventures mean a lot to the husband and I because we started dating and spent a lot of time at QSB when Rick was the chef and Elisa was our bartender (often, or her mom)... My husband used to take his late father there and he and Rick used to talk about cooking and pies and baking as if they were old friends and you never know how much those moments mean to you until the person is suddenly and unexpectedly gone... All of that said, you won't ever EVER not feel at home at one of the Lewis' establishments. Truly. Now. We got the mush out of the way. Food. You walk in and its southern diner feel, like you've stepped back (aesthetically) about sixty plus years... The old mattress springs and succulents on a gorgeous navy wall up against shiny maple wainscoting and wood trim... gorgeous. I love that the table markers are note cards indicating all different locations around STL. You have your choice of booth and table - along with lots of potential options for seating large groups. This is a family-friendly establishment (we brought our infant) so there are high chairs available. I ordered the sweet tea brined turkey leg as I had been lusting over it for quite some time... I ordered in pre-pulled from the bone, as opposed to eating it haunch-style and they dusted some seasoning and some green onions to make 'pretty'. Juicy, flavorful, just the right amount of salt... and you know - keto friendly for those of us who don't do carbs... *if you're a ketogenic eater and don't do a lot of carbs, you could totally find a TON of options here that fit into that lifestyle - including several options of unsweetened tea to drink. ;) Their country ham deviled eggs were awesome - a mix of savory salt and creamy and mustard... I genuinely could not get enough of these... I could eat just these... But... let me tell you of one of the most envious moments I have ever had with my husband... The prime rib sandwich was on special this day... and Rick warned that there may only be enough to do 1 or 2 left this particular day as we were doing a much later lunch during a thunderstorm. My husband ordered it and since we always share.... OH. MY. GOD... the prime rib sandwich is one of the top 3? Maybe number 1?.... sandwiches I have ever had - this perfectly cooked prime rib, juicy, coated in a lovely creamy horseradish that even those who cannot handle the spice could easily handle this... with a tiny dash of greens (that is it, that is all a good prime rib sandwich needs, not a bunch of other craziness)... and a 'gooey' soft sandwich bun. Now, I am not sure if I go back I could stay true to my "Try something new so you can blog about it every time you return to an establishment..." rule... I only want that. (Call to find out specials beforehand - assuming they aren't posted online.). The baby devoured the mac and cheese - so clearly he provides a solid thumbs up - and no less than three times he attempted to steal our country ham deviled eggs. We have visited Grace twice recently, mainly for fried chicken. Ms T orders not hot and I order the hot. I really do like this fried chicken. The heat is pleasant, the meat has been juicy and has proper salt. We both order a quarter, dark and it has been very good. For sides we have had mixed experiences. I have had collards both times and they are good. As with many places I eat them, they don't chop them quite enough and you end up dragging big strings of greens out of the serving container, but they have been tender and are cooked with a little smoked meat. They don't sweeten them much (I dislike sweet greens) but they don't use any vinegar (I prefer a splash) but they are salted lightly and I will continue to order them. Most recently I had fried cabbage. I'm not sure why this dish is ever called fried cabbage and that is true everywhere I order it. It is really more sautéed. At Grace, it was almost not cooked at all and was given an Indian flair with chickpeas and a chile sauce that was laced with cumin. It was almost curried cabbage. Mr D tried the creamed hominy and this was not a hit for any of us. The hominy was tasteless, there was no cream. Ms T had some seasonal vegetables which turned out to be mostly leeks and she is not an onion eater. I will continue to go for fried chicken and greens. I will just have to find another side that I like. You certainly don't need to limit yourself to fried chicken. It is just a small part of the menu. Grace is a welcome replacement for the infinitely overrated Sweetie Pie's. While dining at Grace most recently, with the D's, that subject came up and we universally agreed Sweetie Pie's was the worst food we have had in St Louis. My BF and I drove up from south county in our ongoing search for amazing fried chicken in St. Louis. The good: The chicken breast here is phenomenal - it's moist and flavorful throughout and the skin gets just crispy enough. We both got the O.G. because we're pansies when it comes to heat, but it was not bland. Very well peppered to give just a little warmth. Sweet tea is very good but definitely need a lot of ice to cool it down because it was really fresh. The mashed potatoes were an underdog. I LOVE mashed potatoes and can be borderline picky. At first taste, they were a little bland with not a lot happening in the gravy. But as I ate the chicken, the pepper carried over and really let the potatoes shine. Everyone we interacted with was pretty friendly and no one was rude. The less-good: oh my god the cornbread is SO BAD. If I could send feedback to the kitchen, it'd definitely be: "Do it well or use the box of Jiffy." I'm no chef (amateur cook at best, intermediate home baker) but I doctor up Jiffy cornbread that tastes a hundred times better than the dry-as-the-Sahara brick they gave my boyfriend. The sweet potatoes were alright. It really tasted like sweet potato flavored butter with a couple poop-shaped meringue blobs toasted on top. It was very loose and not really what I like in my sweet potatoes. Literally every other cut of the chicken (drum, thigh, and wing) were so lackluster we thought we'd made a mistake driving up 20 minutes to come here. The skin on those pieces was just soft and the meat was unremarkable. Overall we would probably come back with more than an hour to close to make sure we got the best Grace Meat + Three has to offer, but with other choices we haven't tried, it would probably be a while and only if we didn't find something better. The cornbread really brought down the whole experience and the mediocre drum, wings, and thigh means this place gets 3 stars for now. Have always heard great things about this restaurant & I used to drive by it everyday (pre-pandemic) on my way to work. Decided to try it tonight & so mad we waited so long! -Started with the deviled eggs - yum! - I ordered the meal deal (chicken tenders, fries & drink) also had to try the mac n cheese & corn bread - ALL AMAZING! - BF got a half chicken (hot) with the honey sauce - he said it was amazing. Staff was funny, helpful & attentive. They even have a walk-up window for pick-up. We will definitely be back. HIGHLY RECOMMEND! read more

Pretty dang good hot chicken but a smidge of a letdown with the sides. Having grown up in the south, I'm a pretty harsh soul food critic, and Grace Meat + Three offers both the classics and some modern twists on southern dishes. I came in for an early dinner and decided on the hot chicken tenders, Mac and cheese, and cornbread. I like that everything is a-la-cart, so I was able to craft my perfect plate. First, the star: the chicken. Though the employees were a little wary of my decision, which frightened me, I think they were hot to my liking and my mouth was burning to a tolerable degree by the end. I think the portion size was just right, because had there been a fourth tender, I wouldn't have made it through. The ranch on the side offers a cool contrast to the spices, and I liked it enough to continue to dip my chicken (not much of a ranch person but I think I needed it). The sides were good. The Mac and cheese was the better of the two I got. It was tasty, cheesy, and had some interesting elements, but it didn't blow my mind, nor was I expecting it to. I was disappointed in the corn bread, as it was a little dry, but it had decent flavor. If it served as a base for a dish, like a southern-style eggs benedict, I would eat it again, but it needs some moisture. The drink I had (the sweet tea cocktail) was strong, but I enjoyed it. The strength made it worth the price, and the tea was definitely southern-style. Service was also pretty good. I think I'd give this place the southerner seal of approval. read more

5-Star chicken for sure - deserves the hype. Sides and bread left something to be desired. The brussel slaw is dill forward but paired well with the chicken. We like the mac but the star of the show is the chicken. We loved the comeback sauce. We were surprised that the fried shrimp special came with the shells on, but enjoyed the batter and sauce. Excited to try the walk-up window! read more
