Just had a Shrimp Florentine pizza with a buddy of mine and it easily ranks as one of my top pizzas, and this coming from a guy who's had the best of em in New Haven. The balance of flavor on this pizza was perfect. Everything from the shrimp to the spinach, the white wine, and even the crust was perfect. I had my food delivered to my hotel. From the ordering to the drop off, I had great customer service. I ordered the Hawaiian red pizza, the buffalo chicken wrap, and the anti pesto salad. They do not skimp on portions. I got the small pizza and it was huge! The sauce and the pizza itself had great flavors. The buffalo chicken wrap was too saucy so I'm not recommending that. The anti pesto salad was so good but I recommend they start cutting the lettuce up. They dressing it comes with is the perfect dressing for it. Excellent pizza near home. Always prompt with realistic time estimates for pickup. My favorite pizza is a red pie, which Grand calls a "plain." Margarita pizza is also excellent. Most often ordered is mushroom & black olive (would prefer green olives but...). In my opinion, it is every bit as good as New Haven apizza, though every now and then I must go to NH to prove the point. Delivery is available 7 days, but I always pick up. When I've tried delivery, the pizza has to go back in the oven before eating. read more

This place has gone down hill it is run by a bunch of kids. When you call you can never get through and finally after 45 minutes of calling you get through then they tell you a hour wait for pick up. Once you get there you have to wait another 30 minutes to get your food because it is never ready. By the time you actually get home to eat it It you have wasted 2 and a half hours just to get a pizza. The girls at the front counter are unorganized and always forget to give you part of your order or if they happen to give it all to you the order was taken completely wrong. We order from here a lot because it's the only local place that delivers. The pizza is usually fine but tonight we were very disappointed. The Caesar salad was made with iceberg lettuce instead of romaine which was pretty weird and not good. We ordered a red pizza with sausage and ricotta, it specifically said red pizza on the receipt, but there was mozzarella cheese on it. And there was barely any sausage. For years, Red Tomato had the best crust in the area, but since their ownership, staff and ingredients changed, I have been in search of a new regular place. Grand Apizza comes through. I've lived in Madison for most of my life and have always had good experiences with grand so I'm sad to say I think tonight will be my last visit. My food arrived over an hour late which was frustrating but it is Memorial Day Sunday so not the end of the world. When I opened my stuffed shells it was covered in meat sauce. I've never had this happen before so I called to ask about it. I was told all pasta dishes are served with meat sauce. When I stated I was a vegetarian and that I've never had this happen I was told that they have always done it that way for 60 years and that I should have asked for no meat. Nowhere on the menu does it say meat sauce is mainly used- i checked to make sure it wasn't my oversight. I get it's a busy weekend and restaurants are still dealing with covid etc but it turned me off from wanting to support this establishment further :( read more

Grand Apizza USED to be in the East end of town when we moved here in 1994. We mourned the loss when they moved to Clinton. No -- not really -- as we continued to purchase their pies from the Clinton restaurant for 20 years ! Mike Nuzzo makes THE BEST PIES. ( I am no relation to him - LOL) Sorry Mike, we may now be getting all our pies in Madison!!! We were thrilled to pick four up last weekend ! Same great menu and quality. I am so happy that our teens have a great pizza place right downtown!!! Best of luck to Grand Apizza Madison. Try their eggplant pies !! Great pizza--very flavorful and just as good as the new haven three (well, two now). The only issue I have is with the delivery--the pizzas arrived lukewarm and mashed up beyond recognition. Okay 4-stars for a pizza joint is super generous but I like the pizza at Grand Apizza as much as any I've had. I love pizza and I'm a bit of a snob about it. Chicago deep-dish is my favorite but as a recovering New Yorker, the thin crust pizza is good too. We tried Grand only because it's in our small town and I was desperate for pizza. The cheese and bacon pizza I ordered was perfectly done, tasty tomato sauce and an ample layer of crisp bacon. I generally get carry out but when we eat in the waitstaff is competent in that "I'm-very-busy-but-I'll-take-your-order" manner. Not offensive, just all business. After a few visits, the waitstaff grows on you and are fun. Don't go for the ambience but if you like a nice choice of toppings, good crust, plenty of cheese, and an excellent tomato sauce, this is a great choice. read more

Soggiest pizza crust ever! I gave this place 2 stars because the garlic bread was good and the pizza had good flavor, however I couldn't get past how terribly soggy the crust was. My elderly mother called in an order for 2 pizzas - one large margarita and one medium with 2 toppings. The order came to $44. When we opened the pizzas, we saw that we received 2 medium pizzas (they were the exact same size, both 10 slices). My mother called numerous times to try to confirm what she ordered and when she finally got through, she was told her total was in fact $44 (the price of two large pizzas, given the prices on the menu). She was also told that she received one medium - which was conveniently stretched out too much, making it larger than a medium, and one large, which the cook remembered "missing a cut" on, making it only 10 slices as well. My mother ended up giving up on the call because she was confused. I called back a few minutes later and was told the total was a different price than my mother was told and what she paid. At this point, we felt my mother was lied to because she is older. We clearly received two medium pizzas and instead of owning the mistake, we were continuously lied to. If we believe the lies we were told, then both of our pizzas were messed up. We have been loyal customers for years and we were very disappointed in how this was handled. Never once were we given an apology, just more lies about what happened. We understand mistakes happen, but we expected better customer service than repeated lies. read more

They sell pizza by the slice- $2 for cheese and $3+ for specialty slices. typically they have 2-4 types to choose from. I recommend for a quick grab and go. I've sat down for lunch during the week. Even when they seem to be slow expect to sit and wait a while. Food is usually good. Thin crust pizza with a slight char on the bottom. Grinders and over stuffed breads also good. read more

I have been patronizing Grand Apizza for years and can honestly say that they're the best around. They're family owned and operated and they care about their business and their customers. Mike even makes sure the ground around the building is trash free. I personally recommend the mashed-potato/bacon (white), but you can't go wrong with the pizza here! I've tried. I've really tried. I can say that I have not had anything exceptional from here - pizza, breads, pasta, grinder. And, every time I've eaten in the restaurant the service gets worse and worse. I was in the restaurant with 1 other table tonight - and my "waitress" (at least I think that's what she was) walked by my a dozen times doing silly tasks before acknowledging my presence. My toasted grinder came out quickly...mostly because it WASN'T toasted. She left my check and I timed her. She complained to the kitchen staff about the .50 cent tip the last customer left and then watched TV. After 12 minutes I brought the check to the counter. That's my last visit there - you can't have average food and shitty service. read more

IF YOU CAN SHOW ME A PLACE, BESIDES A RESTAURANT OR 2 IN THE AREA THAT GIVES FULL AND FLAVORFUL PORTIONS, SHOW ME !!! LET ME AND THE WHOLE YELP COMMUNITY KNOW. I brought a group of four adults and six kids for pizza. We all really enjoyed the food (Florentine and chicken, mushroom, eggplant gourmet options), which we found to be tasty and reasonably priced. My complaint was with the waitress, who was particularly unfriendly. It started when my brother in law asked her to set up a table just for the kids, and continued when she lectured him for ordering a menu item that she had indicated earlier that they were out of. He said he didn't hear her initial explanation, but she was rather ruthless in her response to his request. All four adults at the table found her response to be offensive. Obviously, the customer is not always right at this restaurant. If you don't mind the possibility for dealing with a waitstaff with an attitude, you will certainly enjoy your experience eating their terrific pizza. read more

I have mixed feelings about Grand Apizza after our most recent experience with them. As a family, we've stopped in for pizza a few times and enjoyed it. The dining area is small, but the service was good and the pizza is one of our favorites. I'd highly recommend Grand Apizza if you plan to dine in and have a rather small group (any more than 4 people and you've have difficulty with the seating). On the other hand, we recently ordered delivery for the first time and will never, ever, do that again. It was without a doubt the worst pizza delivery experience we've ever had. Yes, it was a Friday night and we fully expected to wait longer than average for delivery. When I placed my order, I was told to expect the pizza in 40 minutes. We waited over an hour (with three hungry kids) before I called for an update. The girl who answered the phone asked me to wait while she checked on my pizza. She then put the phone down and I heard her ask about our order. I then heard a long conversation, some complaining, some laughing, and then I heard her say she "lost the lady asking about the order." Someone else replied, "Oh, they'll call back." I did call back, many times, before finally getting through. I was told my order was out for delivery and it would arrive any minute. I told the girl how my previous call had been handled, and she was vaguely apologetic in a "sorry not sorry" kind of way. We kept waiting for our pizza, and after another 20 minutes my husband called. This time, whoever answered the phone simply said they were really busy and the pizza was on its way, no apology at all. In total, it took over an hour and half for our pizza to arrive. With the tip for the driver, we paid $50 for cold, soggy pizza. At no point did anyone from the restaurant make it seem like they really cared about our order or did they offer to compensate in any way for the lack of service or the long delay. We might go back to dine in on a weeknight, but it will be a while because I really am pretty disgusted with the way our order was handled. When we want delivery we will stick with our usual place. The pizza isn't as good, but at least they're reliable -- even on Friday nights. read more

The Madison store is a "no go". Ordered minestrone and broccoli rabe/sausage take out.....it was absolutely awful! Soup had no flavor and was ice cold. Broccoli rabe was worse....definitely not Broccoli rabe. Instead, they used fully mature broccoli stems and florets diced into small pieces pretending to be broccoli rabe..... steamed, watery and not sauteed in garlic. The penne pasta was so overcooked it tasted like glue. Sausage had no fennel and absolutely no taste. Seems as if the owners/managers from Clinton store, which is consistently good, have hired young inexperienced kitchen help for Madison and aren't overseeing or managing this relatively new enterprise. So we decided to have a pizza tasting of famous New Haven pizzas (Pepe's, Sally's, Ernie's, and Modern). We thought we'd throw in this local Madison pizza just for fun. Someone drove and picked up all the pizzas, we reheated them in the oven, stitched the boxes so it was a blind tasting and went at it. Guess what? Grand Apizza won! Everyone thought it must be Pepe's, but nooooo. Grand had a wonderful thin crust, crispy bacon, tasty peppers. I guess we won't have to travel so far anymore. Just had two slices of their sausage and mozzarella nice thin crust cooked perfectly very inexpensive got 2 large slices in a bottle of Foxon park diet cola for 8 bucks....
