Really great option! Lots of back in parking out front. Their classic sandwiches are awesome- fresh and out quick, and their seasonal fruit danish (looks like this season is rhubarb) was delicious! Lattes we're smooth delicious and very pretty. It was a busy day when we went into this one in Burien at around 1pm Sunday - they had live music going on so we just barely grabbed a table to ourselves- there was space closer to the music and some space at a large shared table. The music and the chatter together made it noisier than I'd choose for a place to get work done, but for socializing and having some breakfast/lunch/brunch it was nice vibes. I saw a woman in there holding a dog, so they seem fine with having behaved dogs in there. An interesting note- I thought this was a general chain like Panera, Starbucks or something, but they're pretty invested in being "local" and part of the neighborhood. They have local artists on the wall and playing live, they source half their flour from local farms, and pay for their crew to volunteer locally. After running a few errands, we stopped at the Grand Central Bakery for lunch. Our daughter made it a party of three. We started off our meal with a bowl of clam chowder. My wife and daughter shared the sasquash sandwich (butternut squash) and I had the French ham and Swiss on a baquette. The chowder was very good and the sandwiches were freshly prepared and tasty. Don't know why I haven't written a review more recently. Grand Central is probably my go to when having to pick up pastries for a meeting on the way into work. The staff is always pleasant and helpful, even when I make stupid mistakes like forgetting to tell them that I needed the second part of my order for myself on a separate receipt. The sales person was quick to fix it and was friendly throughout the entire transaction. I usually go when they first open around 7am, there usually is a lot to select from though still some stuff coming out of the baking area. This time I only had to get about four pastries, but in the past have had to get a dozen to dozen and half. I enjoyed by latte and ginger scone there before heading into work. I have dealt with a number of bakeries in the area I always feel like the employees really enjoy working there. Unlike another place I will not name, that has employees that don't seem to know how to think for themselves and recently had made fun of a co worker while she was picking up an order. There is a reason Grand Central has been in business for so long and is still popular in Pioneer Square. They're consistently great customer service and quality food. read more

Almost 5 minutes pass before someone finally comes out from the back. At least it gave me ample time to make a decision which I chose the sausage and egg biscuit for about $8. This better be good at that price. Freshly made it looked promising. Took a bite and wow, this biscuit was terrible. Not flakey at all, no layers but was crunchy. I debated giving between 4-5 stars, as I was searching for a great place to have a lazy Sunday morning breakfast. While this place was not exactly what I was looking for- I realized they are exactly what they claim to be...a bakery lol. But a really really good bakery. So- long story short, I was in search for a breakfast spot that would offer great espressos along with hearty breakfast options. While I didn't get the hashbrowns I was looking for, I left with a full belly and properly caffeinated. Their turkey sandwich with cranberry chutney is my all time favorite sandwich. The last time I got it, about a month ago, it was barely recognizable. There was so little turkey I actually opened it to make sure they actually put some in and my favorite part, the cranberry chutney was so sparse you could see the bread through it. So I turn around walk to my car and go grab my debit card because of course I only had cash in my pocket the woman in front of me also explained she only had cash as well because she had just gone to the bank but the person with her did have a credit card so anyways I get to the window and I'm asking questions I have a gentleman helping me he's quick and short with his answers I'm asking you know what is wet and why is the shortbread cookies so dark he explains their gingerbread even though they're not labeled gingerbread shortbread cookies then I ask if they have the ability to warm the croissants another gentleman say No! Do you really want it in a grill that's been cooking eggs. I looked over at this other gentleman and told him he didn't have to be an asshole I've never been here before and I was just asking general questions then I went ahead and explain to him about the rudeness of the first woman that help the people before me what is wrong with people now these days have they no empathy have they no compassion have they know customer service then he understands my point apologizes an stated he hopes I come back. I told him it depends on my food. So here we go with my actual reveal on the quality of food but before that the location is easy to find lots of street parking walk up window because no one's coming inside and then you have to step to the side of the building kind of shady to pick up your order my croissant was hard as a brick I thought it would be better once I stuck it in the microwave for 20 seconds it did not get any softer usually it will get softer before it hardens this was like a rock at the whole time once I got inside of it by using two forks to dig away at it and chisel there were absolutely zero layers of flaky croissant my coffee which apparently is one size and they charged almost 5$ I asked for one shot of coffee and it's way to strong to drink. So I don't feel there was any communication between the person who made it and the person who took the order. Or the person who made it didn't read directions. So as far as a review I would say do not ever come here the staff is so rude doesn't like to answer Qs about the product, not willing or wanting to help by doing there job abs warming items and also lack of compassion. My GF and I come here once or twice every week for breakfast and we love their coffee, bacon croissants, and pecan sticky buns. They are handling the Covid guidelines VERY well. We always feel safe and food is always prepared promptly and with care. Good friendly service. Moving review from 4 starts to one - the place has lost everything I liked about it. Both my house and my office are less than a mile away from this location and over the years I've been here dozens, if not approaching on 100 times. I realize that COVID is tough on food establishments and during the shut down I twice bought lunches for my entire office to support this place. I used to work a lot with the restaurant industry, I know many owners and workers - my heart goes out to them. Now that Grand Central set up outdoor seating, I attempted to have a few business meetings here. And what a disaster!! They are running short-staffed likely for financial reasons (which is what it is), but whatever staff they do have, plainly do not care about customer service and with every mannerism portray the feeling that they are there against their will. While standing in the lengthy line and watching them work, it is impossible not to notice the laxidasical nature with which they move or the obvious lack of efficiency in how they take orders, communicate and fulfill them. Honestly, they seem stoned. All three times I've had meetings there (within the last 2 weeks) my very simple orders were screwed up. I don't think I ever got utensils, despite the fact that I asked for them. I'd gotten wrong food made, had an item missing and today despite asking twice, my $12 palm-sized sandwich was not cut in half. (Typically this would be a non-issue, but you saw where I said that there are no utensils, right?) They take your order from behind barricaded plexiglass, no customers are allowed inside, they then drop your order around the corner from behind a curtain, as if it was a hostage exchange. You never get to interact with a human, so if your order is messed up, you just have to get back in line. The line is full of frustrated customers who have been waiting there for way too long so cutting in front of others to ask for utensils, or for your order to get fixed, despite the fact that you already student line, gets sideways stairs from people. Adding insult to injury, today I learned that about half of the people in line were there for the second time because their orders were also messed up. Today, I stood in line literally three times in order to get my order right. When I asked for the manager whom I could see in a little office, one of the worker girls came up and told me that she was the manager on duty. I explained to her that I was in line for the third time to get my order and that I was frustrated. She did not even apologize. In all, it makes it for a very unpleasant experience. And I am done with this place until the COVID hysteria is over and they can hire some people who realize that they are working in "the hospitality industry". read more

Such a cute little bakery/cafe in burien :-) I often go to Burien for my car (oil changes etc) and I've come here twice now. The first time I ordered to-go, the second time I dined in. Both times I got the turkey/chutney sandwich and oh my goodness, it's delicious. My friend loves the tuna melt and has been to this bakery a billion times, so I'm glad she recommended this place to me!!! The pastries look amazing. I've yet to try anything, but they all look good. Basing this solely on the lovely over-medium egg with bacon croissant. The fresh baked croissants are perfectly crispy; just like the bacon. Enjoy a nice iced coffee and had breakfast outside. This is a great local spot and I would definitely recommend others check it out! There are a few locations including one in Portland, but don't let discourage the fact it's still a neighborhood bakery with delicious foods and coffee drinks!
