    Blueberry pancake combo
    Hannah N.

Mary was so cool and chill, providing excellent service. This was the best blueberry pancake combo I've ever had. They use actual whole blueberries! I was really surprised and impressed when I cut into my pancake and saw real whole blueberries. I would come back just for this.

    Breakfast

Good food nice staff homely environment feels like grandmas house, food came out fast

Let me start off by saying this is not my first trip to Grandma's kitchen. Been here a few times throughout the years and to be honest they're the only ones whose biscuits and gravy I could even think about eating outside of my dad's and my own... without being said breakfast was amazing. I had an omelette my mom had chicken fried steak and everything was absolutely delicious as per usual. The ambience of this restaurant is of a literal grandmas house a grandma who is obsessed with owls. (In a good way of course) LOL Service is of a very busy breakfast diner. Everybody still extremely nice and eager to help. If you were in the area and want a good breakfast, definitely stop by. You will not be disappointed.

Good service. Coffee was good, omelets were excellent, French toast was ok. Conveniently located by our hotel.

There's ample parking in the plaza, so it should not be a concern. We went on a weekday morning, so it wasn't crowded but the looking at how at the familiarity between the staff and some of the customers, it seemed like a local favorite. The staff was very sweet, and place seemed very chirpy, the place reminded of a good old diner. All the staff was very sweet. We got the Quintals omelette, and it was my first time trying refried beans in an omelette and it was definitely something we'd try again. We also got French toast with fresh fruits and it was delicious too.

Because we got there closer to lunch, I opted for a double burger over the breakfast options. I asked for medium rare, but they definitely overcooked the temperature of the meat. The burger was good enough, but didn't blow me away. Nothing groundbreaking, just a burger at a small local joint. The garlic fries were just alright. The potato salad was just ok, tasted more like a mass produced one rather than homemade, if I had to guess. The breakfast stuff was alright, based on reactions.

Fresh with light dressing on the side. For my two sides, I order the mashed potatoes which was so good! Had a bit of texture to it so it felt homemade. The onion rings were nice and crispy. Chicken fried steak was perfected cooked and seasoned. The gravy was also seasoned well but it was a bit much. I would had preferred less gravy on the steak and mash. Portion was huge! Sharable size. Service was great! We were greeted and seated when we entered and the kids enjoyed the bear theme and vibes throughout the dinning area.

My breakfast came with a tiny piece of hickory ham steak that was dry, overcooked, and burnt. The eggs were overcooked as well. The biscuits tasted like a basic Bisquick mix, and the gravy was loaded with processed black pepper and that was all it tasted like. Overall, the food was poor quality, especially considering the high prices. I tried several times to get my waitress's attention so I could send the ham back, but she never looked over. By the time I was finally able to flag her down, I was nearly finished eating. To her credit, she replaced the ham with two sausage links, which were acceptable. Unfortunately, the service issues continued when I went to pay. I was standing at the register ready to check out when a group of customers walked in. Instead of completing my transaction, the employee at the front asked me to wait while she seated the new arrivals. Between the lack of attention, disappointing food, and poor customer service, this was a frustrating experience. There are much better breakfast options in town that offer better food for less money. I won't be returning.

One thing about going to a new city is how you imagine an area in your mind's eye, sometimes…read moredoesn't match the reality. Knowing that this outdoor shopping center was 3 stories and had over 30 stores, I expected the area around it to be like a city center, with heavy foot and car traffic, lots of noise, and business advertisement. Instead, I wasn't sure if we were in the right place, because the neighborhood looked residential. The city planners/architects did a really nice job to implement this intention. The shopping center first opened in 1960, as an open-air courtyard style with a luxury department store, unheard of at the time for a town that small. Throughout the years, it hosted a major department store chain (Saks Fifth Avenue) as well. Now, in keeping with Carmel's intention to not have any national brand retail in it's city limits, the majority of stores/restaurants at this mall are local (though there are exceptions like Tiffany & Co, Anthropologie, and Brunello Cuccinelli). We got lucky and found free street a block from the center. Even on a Monday late morning, it was quite busy with tourists and locals alike hanging out in the main courtyard. A really nice feature was the large outdoor gas firepit that people were using to keep warm. We had come for a particular restaurant, but were informed that they were closed for the day for a private event (no signs or mention on their website)...I guess that's how this particular business rolls.

The center has three different levels with stairs in the middle and each side or if you desire an elevator, there is one on the end. During the weekend or summertime when it's busy, parking can be a challenge. There is a parking garage not far away if the street is full. If that is full, you may need to walk a bit. There is also some great places to eat such as The Flying Fish, a coffee shop, and a wine maker or two. In the center of the plaza, there is space to sit and enjoy the environment-just find some shade if it's warm!
