Pretty decent dim sum experience, not the best I've ever had but it hit the spot while visiting AZ. Huge ballroom type atmosphere with the steamer carts rolling around. They were very attentive with refilling drinks and covering around with food.. Let's start with the service. For those who have complained in the past that the service is bad, this is expected. There is a language barrier and they want to be as efficient as possible. You need to be decisive of what you want and ask them directly what the items are. They need to move the line because other tables are waiting for food too. If you are undecided about the food, you're not gonna enjoy the service experience. Just take a risk and order a bunch of stuff. I did not see anything out of the ordinary. As for the food, everything was pretty good. Came here for some dim sum because someone said it was pretty good and to come early because they are busy.. Drove 35 mins got here 5 mins after they opened on Sunday morning.. Party of six got sat right away. Pretty good selections of different type of food. I did hear they are little bit on the expensive side. Well all I can say is pure disappointment. This sticky rice that came on a plate had some weired funky taste I could not handle. Peiking duck was not bad. Over all all the dimsum were mediacore. Didn't order crazy amount of food but still came out to be $220. Definitely not worth the drive or money... By the time we left there were lot of people waiting to eat. Don't know why.. There aren't that many good authentic Chinese restaurants in Phoenix, this one is pretty good. We had Chinese New Years dinner with friends here tonight. We ordered lots of different dishes, from fish to chicken to lamb to shrimp to lobster, and fried rice and noodles. Everything was pretty tasty. We started with the crab meat and fish soup, that was very good. Then the Walnut Shrimp was excellent. The steamed fish was also good, and my son especially liked to eat white rice with a little of the fish broth on top. The pork knuckle? The lamb hotpot? Not sure about the English names. I feel like a lot of these dishes were not on the everyday menu, probably just for the Chinese New Years. The Fukien Fried Rice is not your typical fried rice, it's more soggy, but I like it. I had visitors for Christmas and they wanted dim sum that served congee. I looked at other reviews on Google etc and found this spot was amazing per customers. We got in and got seated right away on Christmas afternoon for 3 people. It was busy but not too packed. The place was spacious so lots of spots. However, the food was lacking. We were advised there was no congee and we only got veggies, bbq pork bao buns and fried chicken wings. There's was literally nothing else that came by. Dim Sum restaurants are few and far between in Arizona! I'd have to drive 45 minutes to an hour to Mesa or Chandler to get dim sum! Then I found Great Wall Cuisine! Authentic, old school, delicious dim sum! It's a large place! On weekends and I think Monday they push the carts around and you select your items off each cart! They have tanks with live seafood! They even have garlic abalone! I haven't tried it yet but it's definitely in the to-do list! They have both Peking and Crispy duck! The fried pork belly is off the charts! Killer desserts! Sui Mai! Don't let the decor / area fool you. This place has some of the best Chinese food we've had in the valley. Not saying they are the best, but it ranked highest for us. You won't get a menu to choose from but rather they bring carts filled with food and you select what you want and they write it down on the order card left at your table. What an experience we had trying new things, anxiously awaiting what was on the next cart and either passing up what we didn't care for or grabbing what we could since we knew it would be 5 or so minutes before they came around again. One of the best family dinners I've had in a while -- Great Wall does not disappoint. Let's start with the lobster yee mein -- the noodles are imported straight from Hong Kong, and you can absolutely tell. They're perfectly springy, soaked in the lobster's rich sauce, and just full of umami. The lobster itself was fresh and tender, no rubbery texture at all. Easily the highlight of the night. But a surprise favorite was the ginger scallion frog. If you've never had frog before, this is the dish to try it. The meat was super tender and had that clean, slightly sweet flavor that's often compared to chicken but even more delicate. The ginger, scallions, and light garlic sauce gave it so much depth without overpowering the natural taste of the frog. Cooked just right -- no chewiness, no dryness, just flavorful bites all the way through. We also had classics like salt and pepper pork chops, sweet and sour pork, concubine chicken, fried rice, and stir-fried green beans. Everything came out hot and fresh, and portions were generous -- great for sharing around a big lazy Susan. As for the service, it was excellent. The staff was super attentive without being pushy. Dishes arrived fast and in good order, and they were great about clearing plates and checking in just enough. You really felt like they cared about your experience, even though the place was busy. If you're looking for an authentic Chinese banquet-style meal with quality ingredients and solid service, Great Wall should be at the top of your list. My daughter has been wanting to come here because she sees a lot of reviews on TikTok saying it's authentic, good dim sum. We made it in today at 2:00pm and were welcomed and seated immediately. We were offered stir fried noodles and coconut buns right away. We ordered hot green tea and waters. Another server with a cart arrived and we asked for the dumplings and rice noodles with beef. The noodles were warmish to cold which worried me a bit. We sat for a while not sure what to do next. The restaurant is quite loud so I asked if she could repeat the items in the cart for me, sitting further away. She shook her head with and angry look on her face and sighed and acted condescending as she repeated the items and slammed the lids after each item. At this point, my daughter said we should have just gotten up and left. We stayed a while longer, shocked, then I got up and went to the front to pay the bill. The whole trip felt confusing and extremely negative for us. None of us want to return. I ended up spending $47 and didn't even get a full meal and left hungry. I came by on Sunday with my family and we arrived right after dim sum had concluded for the day. I didn't know there were specific times set for dim sum so I was bummed out when we were told we had just missed it. We decided to stay for their dinner menu and I'm so glad that we did. We had several different servers through out our meal and they were all very attentive and friendly. We ordered the following: Sweet and sour soup Egg roll, crab ragoon, and fried shrimp platter White rice Fried rice Mongolian beef Kung pao shrimp - no peanuts Chicken with lobster sauce Chinese broccoli Green tea All these entrees came with the dinner meal which in total was about $25 per person. The broccoli was not included and that itself was about $18. The food was delicious and this went for every single plate we ate. Everything was flavorful and tasted fresh. The proteins were there and they were not stingy about it. My favorite had to have been the chicken with lobster sauce, mmm. The Mongolian beef was also another good one as the meat was cooked well and it was easy to chew. The inside is big and has plenty of tables. They weren't too busy while we were there but when we left, larger groups started arriving. Our grand total was $116. (tip included) Service was great and our food was delicious! This restaurant is located in an unassuming strip. Not very clean and service is okay. This may be the greatest dim sum for Arizona but our group of 9 would not give this establishment more than 2 stars! We went early when it opened at 11:00 am. The dim sum dishes taken off the cart were COLD and we wanted to return it (but we didn't want something done to our other orders...)! The meatball was absolutely horrible, like being served leftover meatball out of the refrigerator from the night before and serving it to your customer without heating it up? The shrimp ball (hai gow) and the sui mai wasn't much better.... Also COLD. Almost every single dish we took off the cart was cold. We also ordered two dishes that had to be cooked; Chow Fun and Chow Mein (gee mein). These two dishes would be the only food I'd rate higher because it was hot. I can't even say if the food tasted good because nothing taste good if you are expecting fresh cooked food but get cold, leftover food! We don't eat pork so they made sure even when they brought the soup out that it was chicken and that was very kind. We also got a shrimp fried rice which was OK (shrimp tasted a bit too fishy for my taste) and the peppered beef which was AMAZING. I would love to come back to try the dim sum but over all decent place for Chinese if you're in the area. I'll admit... as a Bay Area native, I was very skeptical of Great Wall Cuisine. I didn't know whether the dim sum would be worth eating. But rest assured, this restaurant even got my dad's approval! What I love about Great Wall, which apparently has been in business for almost 60 years, is that the waiters and waitresses still continue the dim sum cart tradition. I had thought that many - if not all - dim sum restos had abandoned the carts after the pandemic. Overall, it brought back very fond memories of visiting dim sum restaurants back home with my family for a relaxing mid-morning lunch. All the items we ordered - including the har cheong fun, steamed beef tripe, and lotus rice - tasted almost on par to the dim sum places back home. As it turns out, they had a separate, small area curtained off for those not celebrating. We were seated in this back area, but considering the festivities in the main room, perhaps we should've been celebrating after all. The menu is huge, and everything is reasonably priced. We split a huge bowl of hot and sour soup. The three of us each had two cups, and there was still some left in the bowl. Not the best hot and sour I've ever had, but I've definitely had worse. Same goes for the egg rolls. The three of us split the Mongolian beef, orange chicken, and pork fried rice. The beef and rice were both very good, but the orange chicken was just fair. We ate as much as we could but still left some on the platters. We definitely didn't leave hungry. I left it 5 star due to dinner being so good and it still being one of the best in Phoenix area. If you want something and it's not on the cart, ask and they can get it ordered for you. Went to Great Wall for dim sum on the Lunar New Year with my husband/partner-in-crime. This is a place we go to pretty often and I've been going here since the place opened when I was a young child. It was pretty busy for a weekday because of the holiday and the dim sum was delicious as usual. We ordered the regular suspects: ha gao, siu mai, shrimp cheung fun, baked cha siu bao, black bean spare ribs, and a few dishes we don't always order like the fried shrimp balls, fried seafood rolls, fried shrimp wonton, and the braised pork knuckles. All of the shrimp dishes were perfect, the shrimp sweet and firm but not rubbery. They were missing some items since it wasn't the weekend but there was still plenty to order. The aunties who push the different carts were all super sweet and helpful and gave great advice on ordering. One of the hosts also warned us that they were going to be super busy that night so we ordered some food for our dinner to go. We ordered the whole roast duck, steamed whole flounder with ginger and green onion, and a dry-style beef chow fun. We were advised the steamed fish would be at least 30 minutes before it would be ready so we placed our order while we were still eating our dim sum and our host kept us updated on the status of our order so we could pace our meal accordingly. She was so considerate! And all 3 dishes were well worth the wait! Succulent duck meat, still juicy, with crisp skin was about as good as it gets here in Phoenix! The fish was light and sweet and moist, perfectly seasoned. The chow fun had lots of tender beef, snappy bean sprouts, and tender chow fun noodles and it wasn't oily like other places. Great Wall has become one of our go-tos! I love going with a group of people to get the family combo. It's a great deal for a variety of dishes, and the more people you have, the more dishes you get. Last time, we went with 4 people and came home with enough leftovers for days. My favorite is the wonton soup, it's full of fresh, delicious veggies along with the chicken and dumplings.
