We are beyond impressed by the transformation of our backyard! We had 6" cement slabs removed and new sod put down. It is night and day in our backyard. Luis was responsive via email and came out and gave us a quote and the work was done, it took about half a day from start to end and they even worked in the rain to get the project done. I highly recommend Green City Landscapes. Luis and his team have done two jobs for me in the past few years: my backyard and two roof decks. Each was absolutely outstanding. We have a small backyard that was unusable when we moved in. Green City created a beautiful space with brick pavers and just enough greenery. They built a retaining wall to accommodate a small garden. They also built a french drain to handle water runoff. It's been about three years and still looks beautiful. For my roof decks, they used porcelain pavers and also fabricated wrought iron fences around the perimeters. Luis truly has an eye for design and - after his success with my backyard - I totally trusted him with what he thought for the decks. I wanted the fences for safety, but they look amazing - as if they are part of the original design. Beyond the outstanding work they do - the team is very courteous and they always leave the site spotless. I will always call Green City for any outdoor projects. read more

We couldn't be more pleased. We've never done a project like this and were a little intimidated. Our plan was to replace the hard scape from the alley to the front sidewalk, put a patio in the backyard, replace the fence at the alley, And add some planting for privacy and beauty. We interviewed three different providers. Green city was the first. We knew right away that we wanted Luis to do the job. Our initial meetings he was always early. He told us the whole job would take eight days... They did it in 7 1/2. We weren't entirely sure about how we wanted it to look. Luis worked closely with us offering great suggestions that we wouldn't of even thought of. The end result turned out to be absolute fantastic. We are thrilled. Our neighbors couldn't believe it. We had always been under the impression that when you hired a contractor locally that it shouldn't be a problem, especially when the contractor is roughly within your own zip code. Apparently we were mistaken. We contacted this company, explained to them what we wanted an estimate for, provided them a considerable amount of information, and then were told that we could schedule a date for an estimate/proposal. The representative said they would call back. When they did they stated that they could not send anyone out because our residence was beyond their geographical boundaries! Really? Since when is a matter of 5 miles within the same city outside of the geographical boundaries of a particular company? If it were the suburbs I'd understand. But this sudden revelation is bizarre . . . that is unless this particular contractor "red lines" certain areas or neighborhoods. For his information, the neighborhood we live in is made of of all working and retired people, professional, middle to upper middle class - regardless of race. It is the Pill Hill/Calumet Heights community. Guess it just goes to show that the old "race issues trump business" once again rears it's ugly head in Chicago. read more

I couldn't be happier about the excellent work that Green City Landscapes did for me. After spending some time on their website, i was thinking they might be out of my price range, but the quote they gave was right where i'd hoped it would be. Luis was excellent to work with and their level of professionalism was outstanding. The work was done very quickly and orderly, and they were very good about maintaining a tidy job site and being careful of the plants around where the work was done. The main work Green City did for me was to set and level about 400 sq/ft of blue stone. Having installed this myself in the past it was clear to me that these guys really know how to wrangle bluestone, which (in my case) were large heavy pavers of various sizes and thicknesses. They also built a small privacy fence in my gangway, it looks fantastic. read more

I called them to get an estimate on my yard (small residential). I explained that I have a pool and dogs and I was interested in a hardscape type project rather than landscape. The girl told me that they weren't the company for me and that I should go to Menards and pick out rock and have a neighborhood landscaper do the project. They may be a good company for some, but were useless to me. read more

I have had the pleasure of working with Greencity Landscapes for a few years now. Angela and her crew designed a beautiful garden oasis for my mom in the east village neighborhood. The company provided great direction in terms of what plants required the least amount of maintenance and maximized the space as best as possible. Also, GreenCity partnered with a few other contractors to install an iron wrought fence to prevent the pooches from destroying the garden. Every year greencity comes in and performs a maintenance service that leaves the garden looking as beautiful as the first day it was finished. We used Luis & Green City to basically gut rehab our entire backyard to stop water flowing towards our basement. This included ripping out the deck, the patio, regarding the yard, putting in new pavers & basement stairs, drywell, sod and a new deck. Everything was done with the utmost care and professionalism, the water is no longer coming in the basement even during the heaviest of rains, and the yard looks spectacular. They were great in their communication, the quote was super understandable, and we're thrilled. After interviewing and receiving quotes from landscape contractors who were recommended by neighbors, we just weren't finding what we really wanted in a turnkey landscaper, so we began searching the ILCS (Illinois Landscape Contractors Association) for alternatives and websites to review. After interviewing another five, we narrowed the field to three and chose Green City Landscaping, located in Hyde Park, and whose work we had never seen other than via a design portfolio and design sketch from the bid. Angela, Luis, and their team did not disappoint. They knew how to work with the design of our art deco house to create a front hard and softscape that greatly enhances our home's design and curb appeal. Our front now provides an open, inviting walkway and steps that are both sophisticated and kid-friendly; and our landscape offers a unique look and feel that further complements our home's coloring while also providing four season interest. While on the job, they were cost conscious in recommending that we save one of our larger bushes and use some of our original perennials from the front, as well as borrow a few from our backyard to connect the two together. And Angela and Luis' attention to detail and craftsmanship are continually noticed by guests and neighbors who love the design. We highly recommend Green City Landscaping. I would give more stars if I could. This company really really came through and did a great job for us. We recently moved (northside) and wanted to get a patio and a fence installed right away. We were anxious for the fence because we have a dog and Luis was more than willing to start right away. I first met with him about 5 weeks before we needed the work and asked him to hold the date for us and he started for us bright and early on that exact day. He brought a large crew because he knew we were in a hurry and to our surprise, they finished in two days. It was amazing. They were extremely professional and I have to say very skilled. They really did a great job and you can see small details of things that they took care of and made sure that the job looked finished and professional. No shortcuts. For example, they had to cut a paver around a fence post and it is perfect. They had to direct water away from the house on two different planes, perfect. They had to cut an existing seat wall, perfect. Their craftsmanship is outstanding. They even came back and put sod into some areas that were excavated out during the project. This is a very solid family owned and run business that I would highly recommend. We will definitely use them again. read more
