The service is really bad. The food is good, that's why I do go back every so often. I had the Pampano fish and asked the server to put a little more soup. There was only one more fish left and a tray full of soup. She gave just one more scoop of the soup, I asked to more and she refused and said it was going to dry out. Really? I've been to this place multiple times thinking the service will improve, it doesn't. The employees are very slow, especially on the weekends when there is a long line. They appear to act oblivious at times. Today was the last straw. Ordered for turon and asked the employee if they can cover up the part that is sticking out. She took it upon herself to grab some scissors. These scissors are specifically used to cut bigger pieces of meat or squid. Then proceeded to cut the turon in half. Very annoyed by this act. There were so many other possible ways to have accomplished this simple task, like getting another bag and covering it. I do not want my turon to taste like meat is that too much to ask. This is strictly regarding their service. I went there for the first time last Saturday and got in line to order food. The combos looked good. I didn't even get past the beginning of the line because customers were fighting with the workers about waiting for their BBQ and how the bags were not being served in order. One customer even said she had been waiting for an hour for her BBQ. I'm sorry but if I'm waiting an hour for something, it better be pretty excellent. I think management needs to have two separate lines for BBQ orders separately and for food orders. I waited for about 5 minutes listening to the customers complain about waiting for the BBQ; I was next in line and the employee didn't say "I'll be right with you" or acknowledge my presence. Plus he was receiving unwarranted complaints and attitudes by the customers that I could tell he was trying to keep his cool. Then he slammed the rice cooker shut after he got rice for a customer. At this point, I said forget it and my bf and I ate at Chow King which is next door. PS. Island Pacific just opened up across the street, near Target and there's an eatery in there. I bought BBQ there for dinner that day since Grill City's wait is up to an hour. Grill City is the 3rd or so Filipino establishment where they need to get their service together. This review is for the Grill City Banquet hall. We threw a joint birthday party for my kids. We had about 100 guests. The price they charge includes food. I'm giving 3 stars because of the following: Our party was set to start at 2, but we told our guests to arrive at 2:30. The lechon didn't arrive until almost 3. What's a Filipino party without something being late, I guess. The paint on the walls are peeled off and there are pin holes everywhere. They don't allow the use of tape on their walls and only allow push pins. You would need a lot of decorations to cover up everything. It just looks kinda torn down...there are holes on the walls and the walls are kinda dirty. That was our main issue with this place. Otherwise, we really liked it. There was definitely enough space for over 100 people. The capacity listed on there is 165. The food was good (and you can bring your own food). When we needed a refill (they provide one refill per food item), we just went over to Grill City to let them know we were running low, and it took them a few minutes to come back with a refill. It's just like renting any other hall, you are responsible to set up your decorations and clean up your stuff. There are no staff in there attending to the party. Amy was the lady in charge of our party, and she was really nice and helped as much as she could. After refilling our food, they pretty much have nothing else to do with the party. Not too sure whose to blame for the confusion, but here's my review take it as you please. We came in Saturday during brunch time to have BBQ that everyone seems to rave about here. As we were ordering we were told it would take 15-20 mins as they were still grilling up a fresh batch. Upon going to the register we were told they don't accept Amex, and I was a few dollars short with the cash I had, so I asked them to keep my order, and I would come back once the BBQ were made and would pay for the rest of the food I bought. At that time, it seemed as a win-win. I had a 15 min wait, which would have been enough time to go home and get another credit card. Once I got back, I went to the register where I picked up the side order of rice, when I asked where the BBQ was the lady at the register seemed to deny the fact I had ordered BBQ. It was really confusing because we spent a few mins discussing how they don't accept AMEX, yet for some reason she couldn't remember I also ordered BBQ. On top of all that, she asked us to wait for another 20 mins as the batch of BBQ were just getting started. Grill City is located inside Seafood City and is a great place to grab some Pinoy BBQ or Filipino BBQ. In the beginning, the workers and cashiers had a lot of training and learning to do... but they are slowly improving. This time around, not so many people in line were annoyed and frustrated..probably just one person. The BBQ is tasty and filling and I appreciate that there are other options such as sinigang and bopis. We had a party and we ordered one full tray of chicken afritada 2 days before our party. A guy took our order and we requested to pick it up at 3:00 pm on the day of the party. I asked for the telephone number so I can follow up on the pickup day. The guy told us, there's no need to follow up because it is 100% sure. On the pick up day, we arrived around 3:15pm, our order was not ready yet. It looks like they overlooked our order and they said, it will ready in 30 minutes. They started to prepare our order. We waited for 45 minutes and we follow up, they said another 10 minutes. After 30 minutes, we finally got the order. So my Dad told me about this place this evening and we decided to try it out. He told me there was a new grill opened inside Seafood City in the Seasons plaza, so being the natural foodie that I am I was intrigued by it. I can say with confidence that this place just reminds me of a deli, except you will be served common Filipino grilled items: cuts of pork or chicken with a honey glaze on a skewer, grilled pork with light seasoning sliced, grilled tilapia, and grilled squid (one of my favorites) among them. The food is decent but nothing to go crazy over. The selling points on this place is the price and quality of the food. For $8 you can get a whole grilled squid, two scoops of rice, and soup. Add to that you can get 4 skewers for a few more bucks and well what do you know you have a meal that can keep you full for hours. The thing that bugged me about it is the cleanliness, speed, and customer service. The Cleanliness is probably due to the fact that there is so much traffic, after a table is empty someone else will literally try to take the table or the seats giving little time for any busing of the tables. The Speed for a place that's made out to be more a deli lay out, it was taken 15+ minutes to get food, a lot of them already laid out in front of you so you can literally point, throw it on a plate and go. (I cut them some slack on this because there were a lot of people who were grabbing multiples of skewers some 20+ at a time leaving no skewers for the next person so people waited) So even with it laid out it still takes a good minute for all that food to get to you. Customer service is due to the fact that my parents who had made the order were showing their tray to the cashier, and the cashier began arguing with them. Not really what it was about, I think it was because the cashier seemed overwhelmed, but it was resolved, but still with that long of a wait, less than optimal table tops, the cashier shouldn't be snappy with the customer. All in all after trying the food its nothing special, it hits the spot when you need it to, but it's not something that I would move heaven and earth for. read more

Scrolling across the stars, I settle on 3. And its mostly for the food or to be exact, the bbq. Sitting with the fam bam and debating the merits of busting out the grill, we came to the conclusion to just get take out from Grill City and be happy with it. So instead of lighting up the grill, I just plugged in the rice instead. Upon my sister's return, she placed a bag of a half dozen chicken skewers and a clamshell of liempo. The rice was ready by that time so nothing else to do but get out the plates and eat. Brilliant. By now with all the foodie shows and travelougues that we know that there are regional differences when it comes to smoking and the grilling arts. Not to worry as the Philippines won't make any of them. But who else except a straight up Pinoy would enjoy sticky sweet meat on a stick with hot rice? If fact, why bother with the stick. Perhaps if circumstances were different and I was with the homies passing the shot glass around, the chicken stick would make for easy to enjoy palutan. Though I'm thinking the older folk would balk at that and would rather go for a bowl of boiled guts and one spoon. The liempo is delicious. Not as cloying sweet, but sweet and savory enough, this grilled slice of pork belly is another complement to rice, but goes well on its own. So while we're here, let's talk about rice. Like every other culture, rice by itself doesn't make the meal. Its merely a vehicle for other dishes. Sure there are dishes like paella, biryani, pilaf, and that orange rice dish with the Chinese sausage and peas. But for the most part, you can't appreciate Filipino food without the rice. Which leads to another point. Skip the turo turo. It just doesn't do Filipino food the justice, although strangely enough, they have a particularly astringent sinigang here that does better as a gazpacho and to their credit, comes with good shrimp in both size and portion. So another point with service and how it translates to why Filipino restaurant industry sucks. Its hard for a neophyte or a homebody to appreciate of food, dish or cuisine when the experience is blown right away. As mentioned in similar reviews of Filipino places is that services is either lackluster, indifferent, bewildering, confused, non-existent, defensive, clueless, etc. I'm not a big fan of boiler plate corporate forced upon customer service (ie/ In&Out Burger). But at the same time, when you're met with scowls or no eye contact or you see Manang Chayong just dumping food from a container to a service tray in the same way a farmer slops the hogs, it says something. I don't exactly know where this comes from or why its tolerated, although I have my suspicions. But if Filipino businesses can't overcome this awkwardness, then only expect the criticisms to go on. Despite all of this, Grill City is pretty convenient and like all things, the grill does offer something better than what's on the steam table. read more

I went their yesterday to pick up a large preorder--they didn't have the order ready on time, and when they finally gave us the order, they forgot a quarter of the order. Luckily, my house wasn't too far. Had I already headed to the party further away, I would had been really upset. The food is good and cheap. It is cheaper than King Eggroll and Pinoy BBQ. The offerings were as expected for a place that caters to filipinos and the price was cheap! Imagine 2 heaping scoops of garlic fried rice, 3 longanisa, and 2 fried eggs for only $3.95 is a steal!! The only reason I took away 1 star was because the fried rice was not garlicky enough and the service was a bit slow. The food is great but the service was not. My mother and I were waiting in line for a good 5 minutes waiting for the lady in front of us to help us. We called for her to help us but she kept ignoring us. I kept calling her again and she still ignored us even though we were face to face. After a while, she finally spoke to us and told us to wait. It was so unprofessional how she didn't tell us to wait in the beginning and just kept ignoring us. The lady had tied her hair with a clip and she was the only worker without a hair cap and she looked like she is pregnant. She was also arguing with her coworker in front of us. I don't think the employees were trained properly to make the customer wait while they transfer old food on trays. This place is in the Seafood City mall and it's a nice addition to the supermarket. I used to swing by after visiting my optometrist (Landess Optometry) for fun and maybe grab some pork liempo from their fish and meats aisle. This time, still doing all this, I noticed they have packaged breakfasts for about $5.00. Longsilog and another option I didn't get to look at. For about $5.00, you get rice topped with an egg that's probably been steamed up inside the container it won't be over easy anymore and 2 longanisas. I might pick up on this one day but for this trip, I didn't. What I did do was visit Grill City for some BBQ skewers for the BF. During this trip, I realize that people can cut in front of you if you're in the middle of telling the staff your choice of salad or classic entree. Block the way. This couple cut in front of me, the staff who was trying to help me saw, and did nothing. Whatever, I was already being helped. The person taking my order kind of expected me to just pull a grab&go or something because after I said "Pork Liempo & Classic Entree Meal" she just assumes that's it. No, I'm trying to order more but I guess next time I'll just spend less there because that's what they'd prefer. I had to keep stopping her because I had to order for more than 1 person. The food is okay. It's quick and simple, I come here when I don't want to wait for my food elsewhere especially since it's nearby. But no, there's always a wait to pay and I have no idea why. My GO TO was always the pork liempo meal with some bagaoong. It's kind of hard to go wrong with grilled pork, I feel. I decided to try the bangus sisig since I've never had fish sisig, only chicken and pork. It was a lot better than expected and I'll most likely get it again next time. For my boyfriend, I ordered the chicken skewer meal with kare kare for the classic entree. 2 of his favorite to order for Filipino fast food. On top of this, I got 2 pork skewers and they must've been phenomenal because when I woke up from my nap, there he was and all the skewers were gone. As you're shopping through seafood city and you walk by this place, it smells soo good that it automatically draws you in. Don't let the smell fool you! The grilled pork is pretty good, but for the amount you're paying I just don't think it's worth it. Might as well go to a real restaurant as opposed to a fast food Asian restaurant inside of a grocery store. When I finally flagged her down, she was the cashier at the food area and she made me wait! (I didn't have time to wait! We were running out of food) When I told her we needed refill, she said "Ok 10 minutes" and started to walk away towards the back. I kindly asked her if she can check the trays and see if they can start refilling what is needed, she responded: "that's your job. You have to tell us what's running out". (In tagalog). Grill City is the catering in charge. Isn't it Their Job to make sure we don't run out of food..?!! They also have chicken hearts, feet, hot dogs, and other street food options. The family meal is your best bet and they have 3 options. My family of 4 couldn't finish our mixed meal option, which came with 3 bbq sticks, pork liempo, and chicken inasal (for $22.95). For $27.95, you get rice, salad, and soup too! My family and I also ordered their shakes (mango and ube) with the halo-halo toppings for $2.99. Their bbq tastes really good and really homey. Their chicken inasal is cooked wonderfully and you get a little crisp. Their liempo is also really good and not too fatty. Overall, it was a good choice. That salad they have on the poster was so misleading; the actual dish didn't look anything like it. Grilled pork belly is the best here. Screwers were decent... Saucy and a lot of meat. Masarap!! This place is next to Seafood City's fruit section, and the line was long when we came, but it didn't disappoint. The chicken and pork barb q skewers well really good. A little chewy, but good. Try their dinuguan, pork blood stew when available. Very tasty. I only ate my auntie's dinuguan before this place. They also opened a street food section.
