In my many years here in Jax I don't know how I've never stopped by. Many times I have thought about it but have never made it out. This morning we finally decided to give it a try. When you walk in it looks as if they took a section of Angie's, cut it out of the building, and plopped it down into another location. It has the same Angie's look with an even more local vibe. The staff is just as friendly as the original Angie's. The breakfast menu isn't huge but offers many different selections from sandwiches and wraps to shrimp and grits. The food is fresh and delicious and boy is it inexpensive. Not many places can two people go out and eat for 13 bucks. I walked in with high expectations because of everyone's reviews and left full, happy, and only a few dollars less... Can't beat it! There are a few places around town that we like to eat breakfast and this one is definitely on our list now. This is a divey surfer breakfast spot with something special- no not the deer on the wall with beads and rings that used to hold a six pack- the food coming out of this kitchen is some next level stoner culinary. Come here- order the Mary Jane- it's "change your life" good. The menu changes a little on the weekend so the kitchen can expedite your order because this place is slammed. It's slammed because these girls and guys have done something awesome here and the locals know it . They have sweet water 420 on tap along with bud light. You can get mimosas on the weekend too. If you want quality eats on a budget in a non pretentious environment a block from the beach - come here. This place never disappoints. I will say though that this place is not for young kids (toddlers). There is one bathroom and it isn't set up for the ninos- HOWEVER -don't let that stop you from coming here. Based on all the reviews I guess the shrimp and grits is the dish to try. I'm sorry not a shrimp and grits fan. I just like a traditional egg, bacon and home fries breakfast and that is what my review is based on. I gave the Boring Plate a whirl. It was just ok....it's hard to mess up eggs. I asked for the eggs medium with bacon crispy. Both were cooked to my liking but the eggs were a little greasy. The homefries were boring. They had zero flavor Sorry, but pun intended. Lol. However, I did love the fresh biscuit. It was very good. I liked the decor. Very casual atmosphere. You pay at the counter and they call your name when your food is ready. Angie's Grom is the kid brother to Angie's Subs on Beach Blvd. If you live in Jacksonville, unless you've been living under a rock, you know about Angie's amazing food. It is a local favorite, and beloved by all kinds of eaters. Angie's Grom is slightly different from the original in that the subs come with cole slaw on them and a side, along with a slightly different menu. First time here and was so amazing. I enjoyed the special I had called Flands Favorite. It was so flavorful and visually appealing. The prices are very reasonable. The Flands Favorite was made with shrimp. The shrimp were blackened and taste real fresh. I hope they have this special often. I will definitely return. If you do not have a huge appetite they do not have a problem with you ordering the kids size portions which are very generous portions. The shrimp and grits were amazing as well. This place is small, divey, beachy, and has such a fun vibe. We walked here from the beach after seeing the reviews (spontaneous lunch!) and i am so thrilled with the choice. I had the New Coach, and the boyfriend had the Peruvian (both on whole wheat, at the staff's suggestion) and they were amazing. I am staying in Jacksonville beach and Gromm was recommended to us by a neighbor. I ordered a Provolone cheese sub. It was one of the worst sandwiches I've had in a long time. I was charged for a Turkey and cheese sub even though there was no Turkey. There was literally one slice of cheese on the sub. Bread was mediocre and dry. Fries were stale and cold. Horrible. I was surprised and very disappointed based on the online reviews. My husband ordered a Turkey and cheese sub and he agreed it was not good and way over-priced for what it was. Now I don't eat a lot, so the size may not be enough for a big eater... but I think it's great for the price and for smaller appetites they even have a kids size for around $5! If you want more food just add on a biscuit, it goes perfectly. I think what truly makes this dish stand out is their andouille sausage gravy. The flavor is just amazing.
