This place is great especially since they open so early so you can go before you start work. I made it a morning date and met up with my boyfriend for a quick breakfast. The waitress who took our order was great and very friendly. She took our order and even gave some recommendations. I ended up ordering the ham and cheese croissant and it was amazing. Fresh and very tasty to the bite. The croissant was very soft and fluffy and the meat was tasty and very flavorful. An added benefit was that the service was great and quick. We got our food quick after ordering and I still had time to enjoy my morning before work. You can tell there are regulars that come here and the waitress knows exactly what there order is. Came into the bakery this morning and 30 feet from the store front I can smell this intense fragrance which smells like fabulosa cleaner. It smells nothing like a bakery. As I step into the bakery the smell is obnoxiously intense of fragrant chemicals. This is not the first time I've smelt this here. I stopped coming for a year because the bagel I got smelt and tasted like cleaner (fabulousa). Mind you I've been a customer here for 25 years prior. It's such a shame that any establishment would use a chemical like fabulosa to clean where food is served. (Have they heard of simple green, etc?) I spoke to the person whom took my order and said it was so fragrant with cleaner that you can't even smell the baked goods. Looks like I won't be coming back. Disgusted and disappointed! read more

Look no further! This place has the BEST bagels in town and in the surrounding areas. Best bagel I've ever eaten. From time to time I order bagels for my staff on Friday mornings. Grounds is my go to spot. Everybody loves it. The bagels here are freshly made. Crunchy on the outside and soft and gooey in the inside. Seriously heavenly with each bite. There bagels stand out from others. They have a variety of flavors to choose from. Depending on my mood I either get the cinnamon sugar or the everything bagel. Dynamite! This morning one of my physicians ordered the meat skillet. He said it was good, but thought there were too many potatos. He also said it was a big portion and couldn't finish it all. I've come here often throughout the years but never written a review. I decided to today because as much as I love it (4 stars) it makes me crazy that my order is never right. My most frequent to-go order is a bagel, toasted with cream cheese. First, let me say the bagels are so good - light, crispy, and lots of flavor. The cream cheese too is very good. But for some reason, at least with to-go-toasted bagels they feel the need to cut them in FOURTHS - FOURTHS?! WHY??? So, every time I order I tell them, "Please, just cut the bagel in half and put cream cheese on it - no fourths." Every time the person taking my order assures me they will tell the kitchen. And EVERY TIME I get a bagel cut in FOURTHS! Of course, I could send it back but they are often so busy I've already waited too long for my order that waiting even longer for a measly bagel is just too much. I am conflicted. We love the sandwiches, baked goods, and service. We hate that our takeout order is often incorrect. Today was particularly frustrating. Got all the way home, sat down to eat lunch, and realized my tuna sandwich had no tuna. That was a mistake I just could not overlook. I went back to Grounds and talked with the cashier who was more concerned with finding a copy of my receipt to verify that I had in fact ordered a tuna sandwich rather than apologizing. Did they actually think I was lying? They offered to remake it (no brainer; that's why I turned to the store). They however, didn't offer me any compensation for my inconvenience. I had to ask for a refund for the sandwich. What they should have done was offered to give me a gift certificate in the amount of myentire order. That would have been a better business move. Caution to all who are ordering for pick up: open the bag and open the sandwich and check to make sure your order is right. read more

Everything taste delicious. However, they don't put any meat in their meat sandwiches. Notice the photograph of a turkey avocado sandwich. Again it taste delicious. But where is the turkey? A sandwich of the size should have at least a quarter pound of deli meat in it, to be balanced with the bread, lettuce and avocado. This is how I feel. What about you? Everything else is ok. I paid a little under $9 for a turkey BLT & a small bag of Doritos chips. Nothing special. For that amount, I could go to 5th Ave Bagelry & get the same sandwich but with chips AND a drink (with free refills.) Y'all have good sandwiches, but...there's better...(& they also serve freshly baked bread.) The place is nice, its clean. They have a room that you can reserve for study sessions or meetings. Booths & tables. CNN plays on the tv all day (so it seems) & classical music is always on the radio. Free wifi (with a purchase & a 2 hour limit.) Coffee refills for a quarter--I'm a fan. This has become a favorite of ours since we moved to Long Beach last September. The bagels are amazing - they are soft instead of the harder traditional type, and we never knew what we were missing before these! Some of our favs are onion, everything and the blueberry is heavenly. (I like the blueberry with believers cream cheese). Their bagel sandwiches for lunch are scrumptious! So flavorful and fresh. My husband loves their turkey on a spinach bagel. My daughter loves the smoked salmon and cream cheese on a spinach bagel. My son has been trying different breakfast bagel sandwiches and hasn't been disappointed and my fav is the BLT on their fresh sourdough toast. This place is always busy ( seems like they don't have enough help most days) so you may have a wait or we learned to call in our order ( on the phone, not online) but it is well worth waiting for! read more

The cheese veggie sandwiches are a beautiful work of art! I like to get mine on the 9 grain bread with pepper jack cheese but I'm gonna try it with Swiss tomorrow. They are soooo tasty! The bread is thick cut, soft, and delicious. The ingredients are simple but fresh and well picked. I love me some red onions! I am addicted and their location is right on my way to work so I order online and it is always ready when I get there, even when they're super busy in the mornings! My coworkers see my beautiful sandwich and are jealous, lol. By the way, if you're going to order online, use THEIR website, do not use Grubhub or any other third party app--those guys gouge small businesses! The folks who work there are so friendly! I am going to try everything on the menu eventually. The salads are nowhere near as good as the sandwiches. They are decent salads with generous amounts of croutons. I came in for a loaf of classic white bread. It was very soft, but it reminded me of the supermarket bakery "French bread". Puffy, light, a little yeasty, not much flavor or character beyond that. This is a neutral bread destined for other things: French toast, sandwiches, stuffing. The price is right though. $5 for just about any loaf, freshly baked. I came back to try the bagels, as they have a devoted following and came recommended. First up was the Arthur bagel (poppy seed and sesame seed). These bagels are very light, and tasted very similar to their bread, both in the flavor and the light texture, essentially bread in bagel form. Not my style, but I imagine a bagel sandwich would be satisfying. The Cinnamon raisin was tastier, perhaps because of the sticky sweetness. The cream cheese was soft and easily spreadable, and very tasty. In the end, the flavors aren't quite what I was looking for, but the freshness can't be beat. If I'm in the area and John's Hamburgers is too busy, I might pop in to Grounds. read more

I discovered this place way back in 2005 when I used to work in Long Beach. My then employer brought us a few boxes of there bagels with many tubs of cream cheese. Man it was the best bagel I have ever had. I could have sworn I had posted a review of this place before. Oh well here it is now. I'm so glad in was one of the many small businesses to survive the pandemic. I would periodically return here whenever I returned to the area. I like how they prepare your bagel. They sandwich it with the cream cheese in between and cut it into 4 equal pieces making it easy to eat on the road and while walking. The service is great as well however they need to put up sanctions cause not everyone is aware of someone is ahead of them or not. My previous visit a grouchy old man just kinda walked up and angrily barked his order like he didn't see me looking at all the bagels to decide which one I want. I did bring it up to the cashiers attention. Still anyway I got my extremely delicious bagel anyway. It's a nice little shop with outdoor seating as well. It does get kinda crowded so if you don't like noise then it's best to get your orders to go. I'm not a coffee person so I can't rate that part sorry. I like the bagels as they are. They do have sandwich options. But to me that's like pineapple on pizza. Some things just don't always seem to agree. Just remember it's a breakfast joint so they close early in the day.
