A couple negative service reviews here lately but in our experience, twice now in the past few months (moved to Oregon recently) has been exceptional. I went here for dinner while in town from Florida. The server we had was named Daniel. He was rude and he literally didn't like I didn't put my wine glass on the coaster so he threw it across the table. He then looked at myself and who I was dining with and said very rudely " so are you best friends" What was that about??? I wanted to order the happy hour prawns but he told me not to as wasn't enough to eat. So I said fine Guess what? He did that to get a bigger til ad they add 18% tip they don't tell you about. He did the same to my dining partner When my friend asked for a beer ( the 2nd one) he looked disgusted at them and said really? Then he said you can and 2 more or I can cut you off. He also made fun of me as over hearing our conversation and talked to me in Spanish. It was LITERALLY the worst service I think I've ever had! I've earned my family and my staff at my company to never go there as that's where I'm from and where my family lives . I don't know who hired this person that is so rude unprofessional to work at there business... I will be writing a google and TripAdvisor review next. This was my "go to"place, love the Turkey club, I like what I like and always order the same thing. We went last week and I will never go back!! Took forever for service and it wasn't busy. They charged 4$ for splitting the club and then a extra 3$ when we asked for 3 pieces of bread to finish our crab dip, not a big deal but no communication. Then added 18% tip automatically. This use to be our favorite neighborhood restaurant, unfortunately that isn't the case anymore. We have been here twice since they reopened both times were subpar to say the least. Our first time back the service was atrocious. We sat for 10 minutes before someone took our drink order all while the server avoided eye contact with us, even though it was 4:30pm at the restaurant was dead. We finally ordered drinks and were excited to try their new cocktails. Once our cocktails arrived my fiancé immediately said something was wrong with his drink. He had ordered the Prickly Pear Gin Buck, I tasted it and it was straight tequila. We notified the server who said that the bartender had made the drink wrong. We also ordered food, I in particular had ordered the nachos which came out cold in the middle. We left and had chalked it up to them being newly open. We came in again today just to get a cocktail and their carrot cake, our favorite dessert in town. We each took two bites and put our forks down. The carrot cake was absolutely awfully and extremely dry. Diners don't let Instagram fool you....the food you will receive will be no where near the quality in the pictures. Gubanc's is back! But apparently their customer service is still lagging. We ordered the steak bites and they were very tough and too chewy to enjoy. I mentioned this to our server and she said sorry about that and was happy to run my debit card without further adieu. They also were flavorless which I didn't mention. I really never expect restaurants to take something price wise off the menu that's not enjoyable/edible since I realize I did order it but some sort of acknowledgment would go a long way. Gubanc's is a fair place to come eat. The food was subpar (based on the price) and the drinks were okay. Nothing terrible, but nothing to write home about. The meatloaf was good, and the salmon was okay. The Greek salad was mostly a big bowl of lettuce with a small piece of grilled chicken on top. They brought a free ice cream sundae for a family member's birthday. This would not be a choice restaurant for us, but it is not the worst place to go. Are at Gubanc's last night with my husband and son. We have lived in Lake Oswego for many years and have been eating there for all that time. This is a community institution and is know for its rotating, iconic soups including dill pickle and shrimp and spinach bisque. The cheese board, entree salads meat loaf, onion rings and more. There is something for everyone on their menu. I have never had a bad meal there. Did I say meat loaf? I had never tried it myself but I did last night. Wow! Meatloaf with bacon around the edge. Generous slice with a tasty sauce. Not a gloopy sauce like gravy but dark and delicious. I asked to change the starch for a salad and they were happy to accommodate. The champagne vinaigrette I chose was delicious. My son had the Gubanc's special burger and my husband had the Oswego salad. Both enjoyed their meals. We ate at the bar because there was a wait for a table and it was a great choice. We were seated next to other long time Lake O residents and had a good time chatting about all the goings on around town. Wine was a generous pour and the house red was very well chosen by the restaurant. There were several beers on tap also well selected. read more

My most favorite place...until... Went there for lunch today, my friend ordered a club sandwich, and she switched her mind and we decided to split a blt with no cheese. Lunch arrived... club sandwich, which we again, told the waiter that we did not want the club, he left the plate in front of my friend. Blt arrived with the Panko breaded cheese on the sandwich/ lots of cheese. Waiter said to scrape the cheese off, I opened the sandwich to find 1/2 small slice of bacon and an old slice of tomato. Waited and waited for the waiter to come back to our table..I had to go and find him. He agreed to bring another sandwich. Then after lunch, waiter proceeded to run the vacuum... My Mom and I have dinner here every December 4th to remember the anniversary of my Dad's passing because it was his favorite place to eat. We have ordered takeout and dined in more times then I can count. We stopped in for lunch last week a little after 1 pm. We ordered our food as always and asked to substitute a different cheese on my salad. The salad was delivered wrong and the server argued with me about what I ordered even though everyone at the table agreed they heard me order it my way without Gorgonzola. Point was that the server never apologized but instead tried to double down. Finally she took it back explaining with attitude that it will be another 10 minutes. I was reminded by the nice plaque on the table that they automatically include 18% gratuity therefore there is no incentive to provide good service. No one ever asked if we wanted soda refills at 3.50 / each and no apology. I also watched them seat two older couples who took a while to get into their seats bc of mobility issues and then they said they were closing this section and had them move over 20 ft to a different section after they were seated. So rude! It's expensive to eat out these days and I will choose differently from here on out. Service should matter! read more

Enter through the rear and prepare to have your mind blown as you take a trip back to the 70s. While nothing here is remotely psychedelic, I can't get enough of this place. Whenever we have one of our foggy mornings, my mind turns to soup and that is where Gubanc's shines. I think of it as my hidden lunch spot, but it is a Lake Oswego institution and quite crowded during the lunch hour. The reason it feels hidden is that I am usually the youngest customer in the place by about 20 years. My first visit was a bit surreal and my friend and I were trying to decide how to describe the atmosphere which is quite unique. I decided on a 70s ski chalet. I haven't seen woodwork with latticed semi-private panels and light fixtures like this in ages. I keep hoping I'll close my eyes, open them and see characters from Swingtown stroll in the door. The entire place kind of messes with my mind in a pleasing way. The menu is traditional comfort food, but made from scratch with local ingredients and healthy touches. The restaurant decor probably hasn't changed much since the 70s, but it always appears to be immaculately clean. It has a conservative and local feel and I'm in the minority of lunch customers not greeted by name. After every visit I think, "I've got to bring my parents here." I held off writing this review until I tried their cream of mushroom soup, which is their hallmark. It is as good as everyone says and served every Friday. The first thing I ordered was their version of a BLT. The twist was fried Monterey Jack Cheese in the middle of the sandwich. All my other visits have been when I was craving soup, although the Grilled Tuna Sandwich is excellent. You can order soup by itself, but my favorite is the Soup and Salad combo. It is served on a wood plank with a bowl of salad (I like the house honey mustard dressing), bread and butter. You can also order the Soup Board with cheese, fruit, bread and butter. My service has always been good, but then I tend to arrive on the early side and then watch as the place fills up closer to noon. Just sit back, relax, bring your elder relatives and get the soup. read more

I was so disappointed last evening when we retuned to honor them during Phase 1 of COVID 19 reopen and they are adding an 18% service charge to help with the trauma their staff has suffered with the Pandemic. That was sort of okay, but then they added it in to the bill and gave you the bill with suggested gratuity of 18% and up. So if you aren't careful you can pay it twice at the least. The bad thing is that they serve mostly seniors who probably won't catch it. Very disappointing that a business that has prospered for so many years from LO community would so this. read more

We just tried this place for the first time and it will most definitely be the last. I think this was the worst hamburger I've ever eaten. Burger King would have been better. The meat had zero seasoning, not even salt and I could swear it was steam cooked in the microwave. It had zero browning or any color just dull, dry and lifeless. Yuck! read more

I was informed of their tuna melts and if ya don't know me, I'm a sucker for tuna melts. I wouldn't be able to forgive myself if I never came here for one so why put myself through all the pain and suffering?! Needless to say- I had a tuna melt and mushroom soup!! I know the tuna melt Gods had my back because we came on a Friday and I hearrrrdd that they only have this DELICIOUS mushroom soup on Fridays! Thick, buttery, stuffed to the very edge ooOey goOOey tuna melt. I devoured it so fast I couldn't tell you what was in it other than you'll kick yourself in the tush if you don't get one. I believe there was crab, tomato spread or some sort, cheese and tuna of course and a sprinkle of heaven aka other ingredients that I don't know about The mushroom soup was EVERY.THING! We ordered a club sandwich, and a hamburger: neither one came with any mayonaise, mustard or ketchup. The waiter dumped our food on the table and never came back to check on us. I told the kitchen I didn't get any avacado on my sandwich, and then they brought it to me. (It was supposed to be on the sandwich according to the menu!) We had to pay a gratiuity, which is added onto your bill automatically. The service was terrible, very unprofessional, and not friendly. Don't waste your money or time eating here. Went here for lunch with my friend. Gubanc's has been a regular spot for me in previous years but this was the first visit in some time. The sandwiches were good but nothing special but the real deterrent to returning is the 18% they automatically add to your bill! There is no explanation why. Does it go to the server?? I tip well if the food and service deserve it. 2 sandwiches and 2 ice teas were 50 dollars. If I had known they add 18% I would not have gone and I won't be back. read more

Do NOT eat here. Since it's reopening, it is extremely understaffed. It took 2 hours after ordering to receive our food. AND (I wish I had gotten a picture but I was so furious that I wasn't thinking) my French dip sandwich was very undercooked. And that's putting it lightly. Half way into eating the first half, I realized that the meat was red. Not pink. Red. Raw. The waitress didn't charge us for that or our appetizer as an apology, but that is not an excuse. I've been coming here for years. When we're not sure where to go, we come here. They are consistently good and normally pretty fast. It's a family friendly restaurant, but it's normally a older crowd and I like that. Tonight I got there scallop risotto special with salad and bread. They have the best dinner salad that comes with fresh hot bread. The scallops were cooked perfect! The dish was huge, could definitely split between two people or have plenty of leftovers to bring home. My boyfriend got the chicken sandwich, which is what he normally gets. Let's talk about lack of full disclosure. Ladies and gents---Look at the very fine print. 18% gratuity is automatically added to the check. AND look closely when ordering an entree. Typically a soup or salad or some sort of side comes with every entree. Here when ordering, the wait staff asks whether you'd like soup or salad. Then the bill comes and there is a charge for it: after another look at the menu, there it is. in the very same location on the menu customarily where items are typically listed as served with your entree - it's now as an add on and in very small "pica" print it states soup or salad cones with a charge. This language should be removed from this location and placed where it customarily belongs in the "sides section" where patrons expect to be charged. Come on. Both of these issues contain the flavor of deception. And That's low! read more
