Dessert after eating at Ma's House in the same plaza. We asked for recommendation and the person said they personally don't like the milk tea here. Wow, that's very ballsy to admit when you're working there. My bf always get Almond Milk Tea so after they said that, we were give a sample. This means that it's pre-made!!! I agree, it wasn't very good. It was bland and no sugar. I supposed you can add sweetness. So my bf got Jasmine Milk Tea, surprisingly, the person approved of the Jasmine Milk Tea. For me, I got the Pandan Milk Tea. I didn't receive feedback but said it was one of the popular drinks. Well, I approve of the Jasmine Milk Tea. There's an after taste of the tea. My Pandan could be better. All I tasted was sugary milk tea and a few drops of pandan extract. The large display of macarons and unique flavors was tempting. I love durian and saw the macaron flavor and had to try. Don't waste your money. Maybe it was late in the day and it dried out but the filling had no flavor. It tasted like cream and I just got the outer shell every time I took a bite. Durian is very poignant and strong in both flavor and smell. There's no way this could be messed up but it was. I rarely give a low rating but when your own employee doesn't seem to believe in the product and gives recommendations of what not to get, that's pretty bad. Honestly, the macarons, drinks, and cookies were the worst that I have ever tasted. I'm not sure if I just came on a bad day or not, but the macarons were very hard and chewy. The ube crinkle cookie not only lacked flavor, but was hard and brittle. It was so unenjoyable that I did not even want to finish it or the milk tea cookie I bought. I drove two hours here since we were visiting San Diego and my friend recommended this place. What I was surprised to learn about this place of temptations, was that they have caught wind of the "keto" trend. Some of their food and drinks are made keto style for those who are looking to keep their summer body intact. Keto coffee drinks: Of these, I liked the Iced Keto caramel coffee. The ice lessened the sweetness a little but the coffee shined through it all to give a nice pick me up in the warm morning. Keto waffle: I had it topped with avocado. The waffle is made with cheese intermixed throughout the batter it seems. The waffle is dense and with avocado on top -- it was a filling breakfast. Do not eat this before a workout haha. Keto Basque Burnt cheesecake: I wish I bought a whole cheesecake of this dessert. The burnt part was just the right flavor and the cheesecake itself was fluffy. What a relief that eating the cheesecake would not have a bad impact on my waistline! Gluten-free Nutella chocolate cookies: what I like about these is that they are not too sweet. I think their recipe utilizes the Nutella as the sole sweetener for the cookie so what results is a chewy, nutty, and slightly sweet cookie. Get this! I came to see the Panda Macarons! I am a fan of this place from my one visit. I am sitting comfortably writing this review from the place itself. This place is located in a strip mall with a large abundance of parking! GuilTea is clean, simple decor, free WiFi and best of all lots of outlets to plug your devices in! I got an assortment of 6 macarons and got 1 free. I tried the coconut, rose and lavender. I haven't tried the pistachio, taro, mango panda or blueberry cheesecake that I bought. I've passed by this boba shop a couple of times since Sipz (next door) is somewhere I like to eat at once or twice a month. Tonight, my boyfriend and our friends came here for some desserts. I was stoked since I've always wanted to go! Unfortunately, our whole experience was subpar mostly for the following reasons: #1 Incorrect order and charges We ordered the fruity pebble and taro milk teas, garlic parmesan and popcorn for appetizers to share. The person that took my order thought I said "garlic noodles." I corrected them only to find out after the fact that I was charged for the wrong item (let me guess... the garlic noodle that I didn't order and corrected them in the first place). The girl with pink hair advised that the item is more expensive and offered to "comp" me either by giving us more fries or refunding me. I told them the former since at this point I stopped caring and I think they should've just refunded me in the first place and not offered more fries. #2 General Inattentiveness and Lack of Professionalism We received our drinks relatively fast followed by the garlic parmesan fries (which were plenty but no idea what "regular" size looks like). However our popcorn chicken was nowhere to be seen and the box that our fries came in had the sauces I requested for the chicken (bbq and ranch). So, something was off and I go back inside. An order was called that included popcorn chicken. Apparently, that one was not mine :( I told pink haired girl we were still waiting for the popcorn chicken. Pink haired girl said there was a miscommunication in the back/kitchen. Right. "Miscommunication." I go back outside to wait for longer than what we had bargained for. I eventually asked my boyfriend to check on the chicken only for him to tell me that the employees disappeared and hid when they saw him come in... That is completely ridiculous and not professional. We've been snacking on the fries and it's halfway gone at this point. I come back in. Guy hands me the popcorn chicken and asks if I want more sauce (same sauce they left for us in the fries box)... We did not hear any apologies that night, which was extremely disappointing. I get that sh*t happens but San Diego is plagued by boba shops and I've never had this subpar of an experience anywhere else. If it wasn't for the lackluster customer service, my review would've earned them another one star because everything else was decent. Food: 3.5/5 It was cooked to order but nothing special. I wouldn't have waited for that popcorn chicken for 15 minutes. Drinks: 3/5 I applaud them for the fruity pebble but my bf told me that it didn't really have the flavors you'd want in a cereal-based drink/lacked flavors you'd expect in a drink like that. More importantly, my taro milk tea also has chunks (possibly of powder?!) in it so I ended up throwing it away :/ I doubt I'm coming back here due to my terrible experience. I'm a big fan of GuilTea Cravings - it was one of the first boba spots I tried in San Diego and remains in the rotation today. While there are numerous great options on Convoy, I've always enjoyed the spacious parking lot and less hectic atmosphere of this location. They offer a plethora of tea options, I usually opt for Taro or Matcha with Coconut milk, boba, and 50% sugar. Comes out perfect every time. On my most recent visit, I had the Pandan milk tea and it was outstanding as well. I'm also a sucker for freshly baked cookies - they had s'more, nutella, and chocolate chip. I've frequented this place quite a few times since it opened due to its proximity to where I live. Generally I've had a pretty experience with their customer service, but the last few times I've gone on weekend afternoons I've been frustrated with the way they handle their pick up orders If I'm ordering pick up, it's because I have somewhere to be and I don't want to waste time in line. So when I get there, I expect to pick up my order and go ASAP. However, (and it's been the same girl) they've been waiting until I arrive to pack and/or make my stuff so I've been forced to wait 10 mins for my orders. And I've always arrived 10-20 mins after the estimated prep time. This has caused me to be late to my appointments after, and made my puppy very anxious waiting in the car. Dont offer pick up if it takes exactly the same time as walking in. There seemed to be only one person manning the register and preparing the drinks at that time. I ordered a matcha milk tea and a hokkaido milk tea along with two character macarons. It took about 15 minutes to get our drinks. The drinks themselves were all right, nothing to write home about. The macarons were pretty good though.
