Wonderful service. Wonderful ambiance. Wonderful food. U fortunately they were out of artichokes, but we had the heavenly biscuits which were in deed heavenly. Two of us had the special salad and two of us had the wedge. Not the very best I have ever had, but damn good. We all had the ahi, which was delicious. Unfortunately they made my vodka gimlet with rose's instead of fresh lines, but oh well, spend the money for a wonderful dinner. We sat on the dirt patio. Such great environment. read more

Always a great experience. Started with a drink on the patio and waited over an hour for a table despite being quoted 45 minutes. We had the salmon, snapper, kale salad , and trout dip between the three of us. Plus a bottle of patz and hall pinot. Great service. Great taste. Good portions. Always excellent. read more

Great food as with all the Hillstone restaurants. However the management is horrible. They've developed a snob atmosphere since customers are waiting to get in every night. Managers don't seem to care if people are happy or return, as they know more people will simply take their place in line. Gulfstream attitude is what has given Newport Beach it's bad reputation and really changed the climate of the city over the past decade. I'll miss the food, but there's plenty of other restaurants to chose from. read more

stopped in w/o a reservation which is apparently against the law. The hostesses were not friendly and seemed to care less if we decided to stay or not. We did and we were not disappointed. We found chairs outside in the patio courtyard. Appetizers and drinks only (Smoking is allowed so if the smoke bothers you ..) our server was very sweet and nice and so we chilled outside with some great wine and friendly people. Once seated our server inside was great (wish I remembered names) and we ordered. The food was very good. The biscuits are to die for and even though the Salmon was bit under cooked our food was great. They were busy so people were in a hurry but we never felt rushed. So if you go please ignore the rudeness of the hostesses as it gets better from there. Will definitely go back but with reservations next time... read more

This is a great place to meet friends for happy hour and stay for dinner. Fun atmosphere and good food overall. I always get the trio dip to start. There fish entrees are amazing and the fries are hard to resist. My drink of choice is a dirty martini. Always done right. And they stuff their olives with blue cheese! Service is great. read more

The evening with my husband was wonderful. We had some great drinks at the bar while waiting for our table that was outside by a romantic fireplace. The drinks were made great and the food was wonderful. They were out of a couple of things but the food we end up getting was still well worth it!! We had the amazing grilled artichoke..and I had the cajun shrimp and my husband had the rib eye..which was one of the greater steaks we have had anywhere! We are familiar with dining out and ambiance, service and food altogether make up what a good place should be and this place has great on each level. I really enjoyed the evening and I am looking forward to taking our family visiting from out of town this Friday to share the dining experience with them!! Cheers! read more

Great service from the time we walked in the door. They sat us right away. We expresses we had flight to catch shortly, they said they would have us out of there within an hour and they did. My wife and I were here back in March 2012, and we still talk about it today. Gulf stream was the second place I found using the Yelp app, so I am ashamed that it has taken me this long to say...freaking awesome. Really. Go there. You will probably wait awhile for a table, but please, trust me when I say it is worth the wait. Really, not just for the food but the eye candy as well. My wife even commented on the "scenery". Continuing the quest for the best tuna/ahi salads around: Food: * * *Yeah, A-OK. GS's tuna-copia salad is not prepared like an ahi salad. It's more like mom's tuna salad, with egg, celery, onion, mayo, etc. mixed in. But, it's prepared from fresh tuna, so it's pretty tasty. sides are a couple of fresh bibb leafs, toast points, usually tomato (which I swapped for a side of their long grain rice salad...yummy for those who are into it), and some fruit. It's a deconstructed, high end (not meant to be read sarcastically), honest-food sack lunch on a platter. It's a Summer comfort-food lunch. Not too heavy at all. Service: * * * 1/2 A-OK plus, almost a yay! They were very busy with the lunch rush, and the service was still quick and efficient. The waitress was friendly, answered all my questions (on three or four other items), kept my drink glass full, and didn't delay me when it was time to check out. Will return?: * * * * Yes. Staff told us our table of 6 would be ready in 1-2 hrs on a Friday night. No big deal, drinks while we wait. After 2 hrs, hostess said patrons had paid and would depart soon. After a 30 minute wait, hostess told us it was not our table and it would be anther hour. I approached GM and informed him of issue, he stated "WHAT do you want me to do?"..........Get in a new line of work! read more

I have eaten here a number of times. I have been delighted with impeccable execution of fresh food, simply prepared, and attentive service every time. My wife says it is too cold inside - so ladies, maybe bring a wrap? Ambiance is elegantly simple, comfy red leather booths. Noisy enough to be fun and bustling but not really loud. Style of cooking is casual french bistro meets seafood. Good steaks too. Good drinks! I will focus on my most recent meal for details - Started by sharing a ceasar with fried oysters and a shrimp cocktail with the the wifey. Perfect execution of simple elements, simply presented. Flavors were distinct, classic. Get fried oysters. Dont think about it. Just do it, either as an app or on the caesar. Had the rare ahi tuna in ponzu sauce next. Again, simple, bright clear flavors, fresh ingredients, perfectly executed. And the cole slaw side? The best cole slaw I have ever tasted. This is why I like this place - the simple things, a side of slaw, could be a throwaway, no one would think much about it - yet they produce a slaw full of green herbs mixed in with the cabbage, a perfect blend of sweetness and tart vinegar. Had a side of shoestring fires. Yup, damn good too. Can get really busy. The bar scene is fun people watching and they have a really nice outdoor area with fire pits. read more

Oysters,Oysters,Oysters. They were incredible (not the fried one's). Dinner was good, we tried the Cedar Plank Roasted Salmon and Seared Tuna Steak and shared. Both were good but I preferred the Salmon. We ate outside by the fire which I thought was pretty cool. They also have a cocktail area outside with fire pits that would be pretty cool if you had a large group. read more

The good- ceasar salad was tasty, as was the rice that came with the salmon. The biscuits were great. the bad-the ahi burger was tasteless,and not worth 19$. The noise level in the restaurant was awful. Parking was easy in the mall lot. I would not return. read more

If there's one thing I appreciate about the Hillstone restaurants, it's their consistency. While the food might not be completely mind-blowing, it's definitely good..I can honestly say I've never had a bad meal here. Can't go wrong with their salmon, artichokes, or salads...They go great with a glass of sauvignon blanc. There's often a wait, but I recommend trying to snag one of the Adirondack chairs out back and ordering a drink to pass the time. read more

The architecture is interesting to look at. The outside patio looks inviting and the service is very good. The food is overpriced and not that great. Panfried fish: Overcooked, thin and dry Fried shrimp: OK Dulce de Leches Cake: nothing special We actually left hungry. There is no starch served with the meal. Phenomenal in terms of food and service. Ordered the N.Y. Strip which was on special and it came out a perfect mid-plus as I had ordered. I didn't expect the steak to come out that good at a place known for their seafood. Had the seafood cocktail to start with, which was spicy and full of crab and avocado. Others in our group ordered the red snapper, cedar salmon and crab cakes, and everyone was very pleased with their entrées. Only down side was that the bill came to $360 for our party of six... This is one of my favorite restaurants in newport! The ribs are better than any other ribs I've had, even at bbq places. The crab cakes are made of all crab and no fillers, also a plus. The biscuits, if you decide to indulge a little, are absolutely ridiculous. All of the servers are exceptional, decor is spot on, and the location is great too... Yummy fabulous food no matter what you order whether it is the ribs, a burger or a steak! They have great service and a friendly staff waiting to take care of you. They are known for their seafood however I have a shell fish allergy so I stay away from seafood at most restaurants. I am sure it is good though! read more

The best restaurant we have been to in a while. The food is delectable. Not a bad choice on the menu. Definitely try the crab cake salad and(seasonal)heirloom tomato salad. All herbs picked fresh from property garden. Do not leave without trying the biscuits! The house made lemon meringue pie is fabulous! Full bar with refreshing specialty drinks. Not a bad seat in the house, including a beautiful bar, in restaurant seating and patio dining. Top notch service without pretention. read more
