Before I moved to a bigger city, Gung Ho was a great Chinese food option. Good service, large portions, prices are right.

This place is one of the only in the area that has "all you can eat sushi" (tuesday and wednesdays 5-9pm) so we used to frequent it pretty regularly. The sushi is pretty decent. Not the best I've ever had but certainly not the worst. Unfortunately the waitresses are so rude that I can't even bear the thought of going back. Not only are they rude but when you go to all you can eat, don't expect to actually eat all you can eat- they routinely "forget" entire rolls off your order and the service is painfully slow. If me and two girlfriends went and ordered a couple rolls each with some sushi to go with we would routinely wait at least 40 minutes. All in all, not worth it. read more

Good food, manager is on top of the service and the service is quite quick. Joan is a shrimp in lobster sauce fan and proclaims this the best ever. So I have to say I normally love Gung ho. But today, oh my. Just got back from a trip, tired and no energy to cook. Decided on take out sushi at Gung ho. They said 25 minutes. 45 minutes later I got my food. When I arrived at the designated time they set. I found out 5 minutes later they hadn't even started the roll. Well I have to say they need to change the name from black mask to jalapeño roll. Couldn't even eat it, way too hot to the point of inedible, it even had seeds and pith in there.....shame.... read more

This is my go-to Chinese place currently. They also offer some Japanese options as well, which I enjoy being able to grab some sushi with my favorites of Shrimp with Lobster Sauce and Beef Lo Mein. This place also offers a sit down area, which I've done once with my family and had a great time, but prefer to order and pick up to enjoy it at home. 2nd time I've been here this week. The food is good from what I've had. They offer 50% off all sushi rolls Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday! I had a $13 specialty roll and a spicy tuna roll and had like a $9 bill. Great way to try those specially rolls you've always wanted to without breaking the bank. I know they're trying to move the aging fish out before their Friday delivery, but all the other places do too. At least these guys aren't charging you full price for it. read more

It's conveniently located next to a consignment shop. The owner of the restaurant is sweet and generous and kind. She remembers my routine and which beer I drink, and turns the TV to CNN for me. We ate here last night with out 3 kids, we wanted hibachi but the kids don't care for it and they ordered chicken fingers. We both loved the salads, the dressing was full of ginger and they had real green leaf lettuce mixed with iceberg. I had the scallop hibachi with noodles, it was great, full of garlic and seasoning. The only reason this meal didn't own up to my full expectations was that there was slightly more sauce then I wanted. I was really impressed that my picky 7 year old ate the hibachi noodles. The reason we gave this 4 stars was also related to the really good service we got & we just love the family owned restaurant atmosphere. I've been to Gung Ho a few more time since my initial review. They're the most convenient Chinese place in town for me, so when I just don't feel like cooking, I'll pick up some take out. The odd smell I noticed before is gone and hasn't been back, which I find most reassuring. The quality of the food has improved. I'd upgrade it from edible to good. The food has more flavor with less salt and grease. I haven't eaten in, but I've noticed that take out is a more pleasant experience than it was. I was assured on one occasion that yes my food would be on the way soon after they gave another customer their order, even though I hadn't asked. I'm encouraged enough that I might just give their sushi a try! read more

The place is dirty staff is inattentive. Waited 45 min to have a drink order which 20 minutes after was still was not filled. When I went to leave I attempted to speak with the hostess and she was too busy to even get off the phone to speak with me. I never received food or drinks. Had to stop in the Wendy's down the road for my starving family. We will never return. Too bad but at least there is a nearby Japanese restaurant and they are always friendly and happy when we eat there. Don't waste your time or money! Gung Ho's is good, very good. I never had a bad meal there and I have eaten there at least 50 times and have ordered everything on the menu at least once. It is traditional Chinese and better than I have come to expect. In too many Chinese restaurants the food and the restaurant smell like burned fried rice. As if everything is cooked in the same wok at the same time. Not here. Everything is fresh and has a good taste to it. As usual the portions are ridiculous. This is our new favorite place for sushi- edging out Ichiban and tisumi in Glastonbury (we're halfway between in Marlborough). They are very reasonably priced and have quite a few very unique offerings- the one I like most being a white tuna sushi... Yum! Duck spring rolls are very tasty- surprisingly light for fried food. We also usually get the tricolor special- 9 pieces of sushi with a spicy tuna roll and salad for 15 bucks. If you eat in they do the whole tea and wonton chip/dip thing (brings back memories of being a kid at the east Hampton hungwon back in the day). This is a cute little Asian fusion place in the center of Colchester. Three of us came and sat down for dinner. The food was delicious, well-priced, and creatively plated. Delicious food with an excellent variety of Asian cuisine. You would be hard-pressed to find a location with more of a selection in this area, and it all tastes great. I've tried the sushi and various iterations of their Chinese and Thai dishes (General Tso's, Tangerine Beef, etc.) and it is some of the best around. Unfortunately, attention to detail can sometimes be lacking. The sushi combo in my take-out order has been missing the soup on no less than three separate occasions. The orders are read back to you before paying, but it doesn't seem like anyone checks to make sure everything is there. I started to check myself, but forgot to on one occasion and it happened again. My friends and I have been to Gung Ho several times over the years but now we will NEVER go back. We called 4 days in advance to book a birthday party for 30. We got there and only had 1 waitress, and no other customers were there. We all asked for separate checks but the waitress said she would figure it out at the end. At the end, she asked each couple what they had and made separate checks. After paying we all left. A waitress then came out to the parking lot SCREAMING at us that we still owed 90 dollars. we refused to pay because we had each paid, they went back inside, we left. 30 minutes later, a police officer was at our door demanding we pay or get arrested. Not wanting a record, I was escorted by police back to pay the bill. I was so embarrassed and scared that I payed the bill and left. Next morning my friend goes back to discuss with the owner. He ADMITS they overcharged us the 90 dollars but wont give it back unless we apologize. FOR WHAT? my boyfriend went in and after arguing with the owner some more, got his money back. (it was his birthday party!) To quote one of the many officers that knocked on my door, "Gung Ho does this all the time!" It is now my personal mission to put a stop to this behavior. If their wait staff can not handle billing people properly they should not be in business! read more
