At last! A Chinese place in the Lorton area that does steamed dumplings right! I moved here a couple years ago and it took me this long to find this great place. Of course, I tried so many different places, but nothing ever satisfied me. I was lucky enough to stumble across it on my iPad. That first tentative order has led to at least twice a month calling. The food is top rate. The delivery people are polite, fast and friendly. I've never been disappointed. I will continue to go and enjoy and recommend to everyone. Delicious! read more

This review was for an order a while back but never got around to writing one. It's the typical looking Chinese take out joint, not very impressive physical presentation. I had ordered online the general tso's with white rice and a coke. Went there to pick up and got my bag to go. I also grabbed the coke bottle that was on the counter next to my bag. On my way out, some guy, turns out one of the employees, rudely shouted at me that i grabbed his bottle of coke. I told him it was next to my bag and i had an order of coke. He said it's not mine and i should get a can from the fridge instead. Such poor customer relations. Don't expect Chick-Fil A level of service here. The food also turned out to be bland and also not impressive, i've had way better General Tso's. Never again. read more

This is convenient and the quality is good. It's just about what you'd expect from a fast food Chinese restaurant. I have ordered Mongolian chicken, chicken with vegitables, chicken with broccoli and garlic chicken. Their crab ragoon is tasty and so are the spring rolls. Good food, but very rude service. I was polite when ordering takeout. When my food was ready, the woman cashier just dropped the bag on the table where I was waiting and walked back to the register, without a word. I won't be returning. I'm knocking the place down a star from four-to-three. Food still is great, portions are large -- very good value for the money; however, I happened to look into the kitchen as they were preparing my food and none of the employees (I saw) were wearing hairnets, hats or gloves. Not sure what the requirements are, but I believe basic hygiene is a condition to pass a food inspection. Will I still go there? Yeah . . . probably. I'd argue most kitchens have slip-ups in hygiene now-and-then. Just nuke the food good when you get home to make sure it's sanitary. read more

Good carry-out! If you're just looking for a quick fix, Gunston Wok is a good choice. They do good General Tso's chicken, but I usually order the tofu or steamed chicken with garlic sauce. It's a lot healthier than General Tso's, but with all the flavor. Also of note is that they do not use MSG. They will also deliver to Mason Neck, an area known for being a vacuum of deliverable foods, since it is a peninsula. read more

I usually order online so I've never really dealt with the staff other than the delivery man, but they're nice and I've never had any problems. The food is pretty good as far as take-out Chinese goes. It's not overly greasy or too sweet, the rice is well-cooked. Delivery times are pretty quick, too. read more

Good grief, I've been punishing myself by not ordering from here since I moved back to Lorton over a year ago. Ordered delivery today and the food was delicious! The delivery timing was awesome and the lady that took my order over the phone spoke perfect English AND SHE WAS FRIENDLY! I asked for my #19 and #23 lunch specials extra spicy with pork fried rice ($2 more for each entree) and I have enough food for 4-5 meals. Thank you Gunston Wok for making my day! read more

Not going to make this any more than it is: solid Chinese food in a flash. I had the tofu General Tso and it was good. Very thick sauce, which led me to believe it was prepackaged stuff. The vegetable spring rolls were huge and very hot. I loved them. Take-out orders and completed quickly or you can sit at one of their four tables. It's tiny and definitely best for take-out or delivery. Eating in is pointless and probably better to sit on the curb outside. I like it here, don't get me wrong... but it's the Chinese food you can get from northern Canada to southern Australia. Same ol', same ol'. read more

First visit to this place. A modest eat in and take out place with seats for about ten people. We ordered take out - beef lo mein, crab Rangoon, vegetable spring rolls, and hot and sour soup. The order was ready in ten minutes and was nice and hot when we got home. The quality was on a par with the decor of the place. Not the best I've had but it was tasty and filling. They used to be 5 stars about 3 years ago, but something has changed and my guess is it has to do with management. Now everything is hit or miss in taste, quality and temperature. My "go-to" Thai Lemongrass Soup has even suffered as most times it is way too salty. The chicken lettuce wraps on a recent order tasted "old" and flavorless. I'm holding out hope that they get back to where they were in 2013, because they are so darn convenient. read more

No stars... Ive been hesitant to order here since we first walked in to get a menu. 5 months later, we ordered spring rolls and an orange chicken combo. Nothing tasted fresh, and everything was overly greasy. The inside of the storefront speaks for itself. Would not order here again. The one over in the food lion plaza is 100% better. read more

This is probably the worst example of Asian inspired food I have ever had. We ordered two dishes, the Thai Basil Chicken and the Szechewan Shrimp. What we received was poor quality chicken in sliced onion with a few pieces of basil in a sweet soy mix. For the shrimp dish, 8 medium shrimps that were properly cooked but buried in a pound of julienned onion and carrots. The sauce is anyone's guess. No spice, no real flavor. I was a bit disappointed in the cashier/server's attitude, but, they were VERY fast. I have to say, never again and I would never recommend them. read more

I remember when I came here back in highschool about 5 years ago and was not impressed with what I had, but that sure did change. This is the first time since HS that I decided to order from gunston wok and was pleasantly surprised. It seems like they really worked on changing their level of service. I ordered online and was able to put in comments for every thing I ordered. For one item there was an issue and the lady called me right away and got everything sorted out. They came in reasonable timing and the food was what I was expecting. I could have been a bit spicier, but I have quite a high tolerance for spice and they don't know me that well. read more

I moved to prince William and all of the Chinese around me now is so horrible that I will drive all the way to lorton just to get it. Placed two orders of General Tso's chicken. The quality was horrible and tasted like was fried in old oil. It was mostly breading than chicken. We took a couple of bites and had to throw it in the trash because of how bad it tasted. No flavor, dry chicken, and rude guy at the counter. Wow, where should I begin.. I walk in to a rude hostess and we sit down and get our food. I'm eating my fried rice and I see a large roach in my rice, I tell the hostess and she tries to tell me it's a form of shrimp, but I give them a second chance and order chicken wings and fries. I get my wings and the first one I pick has a hair in it. Then when I show the hostess she has the nerve to argue with me saying there was no hair after she pulled it out. They offered us no refund of any kind. I was extremely disappointed with the food, the dining room, and the employees as well. If I were you, don't waste your time or money. read more

My wife and I ordered carry out a few nights ago for dinner. Last time. The cashews in my cashew chicken were water logged and rubbery like I've not tasted before. My wife's pork dish had tough to chew pork. Our egg rolls smelled of BBQ sauce----very odd. And lastly, the wonton soup was overly salty. It seemed as the we were eating hold overs from lunch. No taste, tough meat, soggy cashews. We ate less than half of the order and tossed the rest. Took upset stomachs to bed. read more

BEWARE!!!!! This place used to be good however within the past month or so they have gotten new owners or management. My co-workers and I always order from them however when the changeover happened we have had nothing but problems ever since. Our chicken arrived so overcooked that it was too hard to eat. The sauces are now much thinner and thus leak all over everything else in the bag. When we called to complain we were told that we didn't call soon enough so they couldn't do anything to help us. The person on the phone was extremely rude and uncooperative and even told us to make sure we send them a tip. When we asked to speak to the manager we were told "We are busy, it's lunch time." and hung up on. We then called back and told them we would not be ordering from them anymore and they said they didn't care. We will NOT be ordering from this establishment anymore and I would warn anyone else considering to do so. read more

Hubby and I just moved to the area and are looking for a new chinese place and tried this out. We ordered the general tsos combination platter with an egg roll and fried rice. I'll start with the good...it was solid general tsos. Typical of almost any chinese place, so the flavors were good. It was mostly chicken, with two pieces of undercooked (almost raw actually) broccoli placed on top (not cooked in the sauce). I kind of like some broccoli with my general tsos, and I kind of like it cooked ..in the sauce for more flavor which is normally how I get it when I order.. so that was kind of odd to me. When I looked in my to go bag, I almost thought they had forgotten my eggroll, but just given me a fortune cookie. No, there was an egg roll there, but it was the size of a fortune cookie... a mini eggroll. I've never had such a small eggroll come with a combination platter before (~60% the length of a normal eggroll..), so I was disappointed. BUT I will say, the eggroll did have good flavor. I THINK it was pork, well, the meat inside was pink. Which I found kind of confusing, because on their menu it says they only sell beef egg rolls... *shifty eyes*...regardless, it tasted good, just wish it was the size that I have always gotten as eggrolls. Then the worst part of the meal...the fried rice. This was THE worst fried rice I have ever had. There was nothing in the rice...no vegetables, no egg, no pork, nothing. Just rice. AND it didn't even taste good, actually, it didn't taste like anything. It was a brown color, but didn't even taste like soy sauce or that it had been fried...it didn't even look like the type of rice you normally get at chinese restaurants...they were thick grains of rice. I need decent fried rice in my combo platter, otherwise there is no point to the combo platter for me, so this was a huge disappointment for the hubby and me. It was so bad, that we couldn't even eat it all...and that has NEVER happened to us before with any chinese food (I'm kind of a chinese-american food fanatic), so that certainly says something. So, if you just order your entree with steamed rice (if that's what you like), it may be an okay place to satisfy your chinese cravings, but I won't be coming back. The search continues! read more

I've eaten here many times over the years. The food is pretty good. I noticed a change a while ago. I think the owners changed. I went in one day at 2:45 and was charged the dinner prices. I asked for extra soy sauce - they did not have any. What Chinese carryout doesn't have soy sauce. There have been more issues and there has been a steady decline. I will not return to this place ever. read more
