This place is the absolute best. If you want a guaranteed good bagel or sandwich, this is the place to go.

By far the best bagels I've ever had. I live next door to bagel boy and walk 7 blocks to get it here! I tried a spot in Manhattan with a crapload of reviews, best bagels in the city apparently. Crap compared to this place. They take great care in cooking to order and their bagels are just fantastic. I have a penchant for their ice coffee, but I'm also happy that this is one of the only places I can find mini cinnamon bagels. read more

Pros: The lines are manageable, prices are good, the people here are friendly, cheap coffee Cons: the bagels range between a C+ and a B+, they've given me stale day old bagels on Saturday mornings, it's kind of a crap shoot Bottom line: I live close by so I'll still be a customer, but the quality could really be better. As a long time customer I really enjoy the bagels at this place, but there is an employee by the name of Andrew an older gentleman and he is always nasty. I have seen him on numerous occasions be rude to customers including myself and fellow co-workers. His attitude just out right stinks, he's not friendly and makes you not want to come back. The only way this guy will be nice to you is if you are rude to him back and then his whole attitude changes. Everyone else is great including the owner all so friendly but Andrew is a sour patch. Since my girlfriend moved to Bay Ridge i find myself there WAY more often than I am use too/ want to be. However, H&L is a diamond in the rough of overpriced, tasteless , and douchey over hyped bagel stores in Brooklyn. I am originally from Borough Park where some of the best bagels are and I still can't deny the freshness and overall taste of H&L. Best bagels I have ever had. Now I won't take a star away for a business having a packed house, but be prepared to wait in a tight space for a while if you want these delicious bagels. Store is small and always packed with one single file line out the door. But hey I guess that means they are doing something right. So wait out the line and get a great bagel or wait in line AND get ripped off at any other Bay Ridge bagel store. read more

Best bagels in Brooklyn!!! Once you have these bagels you won't want to eat bagels from anywhere else! My personal favorite: egg everything toasted with a sweet cream cheese (strawberry or cinnamon raison) and a side of bacon to crumble on top. Nothing like that sweet and salty combination. read more

We just moved in down the street from H&L. I will never purchase store bagels ever again. The first day my fiancee went in to buy us 2 bagels for a late breakfast - we're night people. He came back with a bag full! Apparently when he ordered there had been some that had been out a while. They told him they were getting hard, and wanted to be sure he really still wanted them. We're low maintenance people so he said sure, then they offered him 4 more. I think it was probably due to timing, being later in the day, they were a bit hard on the outside but soft and delicious otherwise. They really care about the quality of the product and seem to want to be sure the customer is happy with it. We purchase bagels here twice a week now. I don't know if it's the time of day we go but they seem to get better and better with every bag. No they don't take cards, but if you're going to complain about that - get out of Bay Ridge - many of the shops, bars, and restaurants here seem to have a similar no card policy. Businesses have to pay a percentage to accept credit cards, that's one of the reasons businesses will put a minimum charge limit for credit card purchases. That's also why some businesses don't include a tip line on their credit purchases. It costs them more money than the amount of the sale if they don't. Honestly, if you're trying to pay for any small purchase (it's a bagel shop, what are you buying that calls for a $100 bill?) with $100 most small businesses wouldn't accept it. If they do a manager probably needs to be present to prevent short changing and to make sure the bill is real. Most likely, it's a store policy as well. These bagels are 85 cents each, the price gets lower as you buy more. The point is, walk in with $5, you won't have to wait 15 minutes and you'll have a bag of the most delicious bagels you will ever have the privilege to put in your mouth. read more

Went this morning to H@L bagels ordered two bagels one with cream cheese and one with scallions ceeam cheese. Scallion bagel had no taste of bagels and it was written on paper scallion .not good bageld ok read more

This is one of my go to spots for breakfast. The line is always long but it moves fast. The bagels are always fresh and you can watch Frank make the bagels. I usually get the flat bagels with ham egg and cheese or cream cheese and jelly. The coffee is great and can get the extra large one. The muffins are great and always fresh. I have even had break catered from here. Frank does an amazing job putting it together with all the fixings you want or need. Always on time. Street parking and again don't walk out if the line is long. He has plenty of staff and they are quick. You will not be disappointed. read more

This place is ok when I need a bagel in a pinch, as it's right near my house. I've been about 6 times, and 5 times I've had to wait a while to be served. I'd say I've only received fresh bagels 2 out of the 6 times, and this was early in the morning. However, their staff has always been very friendly and trusting and helpful, which keeps me coming back. read more

These are about the best bagels in Bay Ridge. They have a light crisp to the crust, just the right amount of chewiness and have the perfect taste. The seeded bagels have the just right one of seeds. It's smaller and less crowded than some of the other stores. read more
