As a fellow HEB partner, not at this location, I was appalled by the serious lack of enforcement of COVID precautions. I understand it is hard to enforce everyone to follow the rules. (6ft of distance and masks covering mouths AND nose, even just wearing a mask) I understand it is even difficult to enforce rules during busy times of business during the day when people are already rushed and uncomfortable, but what I saw during my visit was a poor reflection on not only this location but HEB as a company. I saw multiple customers wandering the store without a mask or wearing their mask incorrectly. I saw 0 attempt by HEB partners to enforce proper mask wearing and social distancing within the store. I even observed partners ignoring social distancing with customers in the aisles. HEB prides themselves on being one of the best places to shop and one of the best places to work, and great precautions are in place to make it one of the safest places to shop as well, especially during these trying times. What I saw today during my visit was unforgettable and unforgivable. I will definitely be trying curbside next time I shop at this location or simply take my business to another location. read more

As far as HEBs go I have about 4 that surround me in all different directions from my house. This particular location is probably in the middle as far as the niceness of it. It is not my favorite one to go to, but at times it is convenient. It is also not open 24 hours. If it was I would definitely frequent it more. I do feel like this store a little crammed full compared to the other HEBs near me. I think it feels that way because the length of space from the register to the aisles is small. Last thing negative about this store is that the parking is a pain to get in and out of. They should just make it to where there are no left turns allowed out of the driveway that is on Manchaca. Overall I am a fan of HEB and they usually always have what I need. The employees are great too and when comparing this store to the others near by me is it ok. read more

This HEB location opens early at 6:00am making it very convenient to grab things I need before heading into work. I am always greeted by friendly workers and they go through extra mile to help me out. The bakery has lots of great things. From fresh donuts, baked goods, and several kinds of fresh breads I can always find something delicious to pick up. Check out time is about average from an HEB. Sundays are the busiest day to go. I try to do my shopping on Saturday evenings, I hardly see this location busy at this time. Coupons and meal deals are my favorite thing about HEB. I save a ton of money this way and coupons are displayed very easily and are clearly labeled what is on sale. I always choose HEB for groceries! read more

Manchac-chac-a-lac-a-boom-boom.....I go to THIS HEB when I cannot get to Escarpent....I rotate between this store and Brodie/Wm. Cannon.... Just the other day, they were handing out warm sushi faster than you could say rice and boy/girl, it was delish! HEB hands down has the best sushi over a lot of places, in my opinion!! I think I'm turning Japanese....I really think so......the Sushi is awesome and the mister regularly gets the Philadelphia roll....Holla! This HEB always has what we need, minus the cool bulk section Escarpment has, so I have to take off a star here for that.... My only other pork with this place is that sometimes, I have come home with expired items, which in part, is my fault, however, I feel like now I really have to look at the sale items to make sure the dates are still active..... This HEB is forever crowded, and I like that it has a gas station. The staff here is very helpful and I have to say I am usually highly content with this store, I think it is #227 because that is what the shopping carts are numbered....that's pretty sad that I know that... The checkout process lately has been taking much longer than usual, too, but that should be expected since we are in the 4th quarter of the year! read more

I went shopping for a few things at 7:30 am today. I generally trust the HEB cashiers to ring up purchases correctly.That did not happen today. Today, Richard M. was incorrect & I did not appreciate it. I was inconvenienced & wasted my time. It was not worth the amount of money (.82) , although if he had done it right, I would not be writing this and would be happy customer. How many other people did this happen to and they never say anything? The pound of hamburger meat has a bright yellow/red sticker for 25% off with today's date. Was it noted--NO!!! I drove back, asked the manager, Ashlee M who made a refund and charged me the correct amount. I said to her "It does not matter if the checker's speed is fast, if the items are scanned wrong, that is a real inconvenience for the customer". She just shrugged me off. Having a large, frequently used store perform their job correctly and not charge the wrong amount is a big deal. I know HEB is great store, a great company, I will not stop shopping there. Yet, because of this today, I will check my receipts and encourage all people I know to do same. Some associates care, some don't and it does show. read more

There's something fantastically odd about this HEB, and I can't really put my finger on it. Perhaps it's the fact that one half of it is like a miniature Wal-Mart (no, not Target, Wal-Mart). Or maybe it's the fact that when I do drop by here to pick something up, I see a million people who seem to be neighbors, running into each other and chatting in the aisles like our parents used to do when we were growing up. It's a processed food heaven too, that's for sure. I don't do my grocery shopping here, opting instead for the Escarpment location when I'm going big at HEB, but this is the closest store to my house so I've been known to run in to grab something here or there. There are people who hate this place, I'm sure of it, just like a lot of people hate Wrath of God HEB (Congress/Oltorf), but just like I love the Wrath, I love the Wal-Mart of HEBs as well. read more

I shop here out of necessity. For the most part, it is a step up from the H.E.B. we used to shop at over on William Cannon and I35. They seem to offer more of a selection on some higher-end items, but I suppose that's because the clientele here is different. Yes it can get crowded, but you'll find that at just about any grocery store here in town...well, except maybe Randall's. My only major complaint with this location is the parking lot area. My husband--who is generally the most kind, considerate, sweet-tempered guy you'll ever meet--becomes absolutely LIVID with the morons who enter the lot from Slaughter and stop right after turning into the parking lot. Yes, I know it's a corner and therefore you think you should stop, Fair Shopper, but there is no stop sign there and you have the right of way! And whomever decided to put the service station in that particular spot deserves to be shot. Really just very poorly planned. Try to go shopping during the day or late at night to avoid crowds and parking lot hassles. read more

Thank the God of Groceries that this HEB is only a coupla miles from my casa. Before opening this store, there was the Brodie & Wm Cannon or the older store at the Y in Oak Hill. Both always crowded, inconvenient, but the best stores for stocking up on necessities. Although I can relate to Jodi P's nightmare of rude shoppers and screeching children, I enjoy doing my weekly shopping here; there are always wine tastings happening to help elevate oneself above the fray. The aisles are wide, selection is great, there's a mini-Central Market area, and the employees are personable, too. Yes, there are times when the place is packed and people can sure as hell get on your nerves, but isn't that true at any grocery store in town? I would add that 5th star, but parking can be a pain in the bumper, and those crowds are more often there than not. read more

Nightmare. I love HEB but I hate this store. Most specifically, I hate the shoppers in this store, who must surely all be on their very first grocery shopping trip. Every day, at all hours. It seems like each adult shopper must be accompanied by at least three children. Even if they are well-behaved children, they are still children who haven't learned to stay out of the aisles so that other shoppers can pass. Oh wait, that's what the adults who shop at this HEB do, too. Some people need a license to shop at a grocery store, and all those people shop at this very HEB. If you've never been to a grocery store before, like to stand around in people's way, often leave your cart in the middle of the aisle, or know nothing about groceries, shopping, or money, THIS IS THE STORE FOR YOU! I've taken to driving miles out of my way and paying double at other stores simply to have a stress-free grocery shopping experience. EDIT: I've discovered since my initial review that I can shop at this store without wanting to scream if I go during the week, after 9pm. read more

***WATCH YOUR CHECKER LIKE A HAWK! THEY CONSTANTLY OVERCHARGE WITH DOUBLE-RINGED ITEMS AND INCORRECT PLU CODES! I've shopped at this H-E-B my whole life because I live right nearby, but I probably won't be shopping there anymore. Every other time I shop here, the checkers screw up. They often double-ring an item, or put the wrong PLU code in for produce. If you don't watch them like a hawk, they're going to screw you. I promise. The produce mix-up happened to me this past week (for the tenth time). I got a bunch of green grapes which should have been about $4 worth. The checker ended up putting a code in for some type of herb, which amounted to about $75 for the one item. When the total rang up, I could clearly see that I was over, but we were in a rush and (as usual) there was a long line. I went ahead and paid. As soon as I got my receipt, I caught the error and asked the checker about it. No joking here: He actually shrugged his shoulders and told me I needed to find a manager. After I found the manager (which should not have been my job), I got my money back, but informed him that I'd no longer be shopping at that H-E-B. I'm almost over H-E-B in general. Believe it or not, I've actually had better service buying groceries at the Southpark Meadows Wal-Mart. read more

I like shopping at HEB because I feel like I spend less money there grocery shopping than at any other store. I will never go to this HEB ever again. I went in one day for a box of cereal and some shampoo. I went down the shampoo aisle and I when I got to the end where they keep the hair products for African American people, there was a sign that said "This area is monitored closely by cameras." My first thought was that maybe a lot of people like to steal shampoo so I walked back down the aisle and I did not see that sign anywhere else. I was highly offended that they would single out a section that African Americans frequent. This section is probably 2 feet wide and covers about 4 shelves. Who knew racism still exist and at such a level. If you are going to monitor one area closely, you should monitor them all closely. This sign is not posted anywhere else. read more

I'm glad to finally live so close to an HEB, but I have to say, customer service is tanking at this location. Checkers are usually chatting with other employees throughout the entire checkout, cussing nonchalantly while my younger sister is patiently standing by my side. No manners! They hardly even ask about the WOW items anymore. I don't even want to consider buying 5 candy bars for a dollar now. Baggers are NONEXISTENT. About half the time I bag my own groceries. I'm not snobby, ya know? But for as long as I can remember, going to HEB with my mother since I was a wee, the cashiers were so nice!!! Customer service is truly becoming a joke. Nobody likes their job! Oh, btw, this one older dude, who is always handing out samples of some sort, told me I looked like a martian. Yeah... okay. Oh! One more thing... it's only open till 1 am. There are basically 2 good HEB's in Austin: Hancock HEB and the HEB at William Cannon and Brodie. The rest are fair-to-middling, and more than likely, you live near a "Bad HEB". I've grown fond of having a Bad HEB. For instance, when we lived in Allendale, the HEB at Koenig and Burnet was our local Bad HEB. When we were lazy, or had a small list for the week, we'd say "Let's just go to Bad HEB." I was worried that when we moved down to Slaughter, we wouldn't have a Bad HEB. But we do! And boy, Slaughter HEB, are you perfectly bad, from your f'ed up parking lot, to your overcrowdedness, to your crappy produce, to your dirty, depressing half, where your paper and pharmacy products are. You are perfect in your badness -- not bad enough to avoid you completely -- we'll go inside you if we need to -- but bad enough that if we have energy, and produce + a variety of standard products on our list, we'll drive an extra 3 miles and 10 minutes to go to the Good HEB. Still, nice to have you around. read more

If you're claustrophobic, you may want to avoid this HEB like the plague, which, in hindsight, HEB may actually have inherited some strains of the disease that to this day may live on hidden in its nooks and crannies. I don't have a problem with small spaces, but when I'm grocery shopping, I would at least like to be able to move and get what I need without having to say excuse me a milion times when certain people (i.e. the guy who was lounging on his cart in front of the pasta aisle, looking as if he'd found his brand new domicile among noodles and instant pasta mix) take their sweet time moving from one spot, as if they were rooted there like a tree. Give me ten minutes alone in the store, and I'll be out of there like a flash, and then everyone can resume their role as trees in the play of life. Normally, my boyfriend and I do our shopping at the HEB on Brodie and William Cannon Drive, but last weekend, they unfortunately ran out of my boyfriend's favorite cookies, so there we were. Much like the people that cram themselves in the aisles, therefore making the walking space narrow, this store's sushi was ridiculously small. And on top of that, the California Rolls had some weird green stuff that I couldn't identify that tasted off. As a personal rule, sushi should be identifiable at all times, in appearance and taste. That was the first inkling of a plague-like bacteria that manifested itself. The second one came in the form of the Chicken Fried Rice in the frozen goods section. The supposed oyster sauce that went over the chicken and rice tasted like bitter rum, and since I dislike alcohol, I could not force myself to eat it, only before I stopped, I noticed the stale flavor of the chicken and vegetables. I'm lucky I didn't get physically sick, but if selling food that apparently tastes like it has more bacteria than nutrients is HEB's secret marketing strategy, I suggest those who frequent this store go elsewhere for groceries. You know, like at a store that doesn't make you want to call the Poison Control Center. Also, check the expiration dates on the meat. I was starting to make some sweet and sour chicken this week, and when I opened the package of chicken that still had a few days before it expired, there were globs of blue all over the bottom of each piece of chicken. I showed it to my boyfriend did as he advised. I threw it away. I don't know if it was just a one time thing, but fresh food in a grocery store should be a no-brainer. Um, yeah, we'll be sticking with the Brodie/William Cannon HEB. read more

I went to this location this evening at around 8 pm to pick up about 20 items and ended up packing my own groceries while 3 HEB employees were about 5 feet away from my lane complaining about having to work until 9 pm (they're open until 1 am so it's not as if I waited until closing to do my shopping). I have historically avoided this location for similar experiences and decided to give them a try this evening out of convenience, but from now on I will be going out of my way to go to Circle C. read more

This is my go-to HEB in South Austin at the moment. I love that they are open late (until midnight)! I always forget the right entrance gets blocked off after 9pm, but other than that, no complaints! They're always stocked with the goods and the staff is very friendly. read more

I wanted to shop this evening but the shelves were largely empty and the store was filthy. (See pictures) There were frozen peas all over the ground in the frozen vegetable aisle and they had been stepped on and tracked throughout the store. There is simply no excuse for the store to be THIS dirty. There was one pack of frozen hamburger meat that had a hole in it and it was tucked away in the back. It was one of three packs of beef they had. But the thing that got me was the fact that the shelves look like the way store looks like just prior to a hurricane. The only reason it gets ONE star is because our check out guy and the girl that helped us out, (Tiara) were cheerful and made the last 30 seconds of our stay at HEB palatable. read more

If I am not in a hurry, I generally avoid this HEB and go to the Circle C one or the Brodie one - even though this one is closest to me. I thought the renovation would change my opinion but it still hasn't. Finding healthy food in this HEB is really hard. I remember one time I went in just for some quinoa, and they only had one brand and it was all sold out. Their produce is usually pretty good, but I wish they carried more variety of things. They have a good selection of apples, but not much of a selection of vegetables. The parking lot is designed very poorly also. And they close the side entrances at 9pm which is prime shopping time for me. To feel "safe" at that time of night, you want to park closest to the entrance/exit, but since there is only one it makes that difficult. I realize that all HEBs do this door closure process at 9pm, but it still frustrates me. Also, they tend to move items around a lot which makes it hard to locate. Sunday night I went and they had the turkey breakfast sausage with the other breakfast sausage in the frozen area. Cut to Wednesday and I couldn't find them there, then found that they were now with the bacon. Would be nice if the HEB manager had an email address or product submission site that you could request certain items for the store. read more

The shoppers at this location are way more vanilla than those at my old favorite on Congress and Oltorf. Avoid the HEB Bakery on Slaughter. Where to start... I ordered a custom birthday cake for my husband & here are the highlights: 1) The Cake was mis-spelled. We ended up leaving the store with a large white correction strip across the blue cake. 2) The chocolate cake was dry, not moist. 3) We found a medium length curly hair in the cake (obviously someone didn't have their hair net on) I am not sure our experience could have been any worse. Ugh, how badly I want this store to be a good one, but I'm let down every time. Out of H-E-B plain sparking water for the third time in a row. As always, when I ask any employee anything, the first me to managers, who seem to be mythical creatures because I can never find them. It's our closest store but who cares if EVERY time they are out of something and I have to go to the Escarpment one anyway. I'll just go there always from now on. And they move things to the most random places! Why wouldn't nail polish remover BE with nail care? Why are they making shopping harder? My time is valuable and this store has wasted mine for the last time. One star because the cashiers are always nice, so at least there's that. read more

Not every grocery store is created equally. If you live in central Texas you know about H-E-B, but not every H-E-B is on equal footing. My local neighborhood H-E-B is fantastic. The staff is great, the parking lot is clean and easy to navigate, and there are plenary of cashiers to keep the lines moving and short. I don't really enjoy grocery shopping but when I do it this is the only one I will shop at otherwise I'd rather do instacart. Keri up the good work over there. read more

The store is clean, clearly organized, and well stocked. The check out lines move along efficiently. These are all standards upheld by HEB in general. However, this store really stands out to me because of the staff. I've asked a question, sought assistance, needed direction perhaps 30 times at this store, and have always been met with a smile, and provided pertinent information and capable assistance cheerfully. The checkers, who are generally quite busy, are pleasant, calmly efficient, and always helpful. Great store, folks! read more

Came into this location today to do some shopping. This is my go to local location I always attend when food is needed!! Since Covid-19, I tend to use self check out although it is 10items or less! I feel safer doing my own thing, sounds reasonable as long as im not clogging up the self check out line! Which i was not! Three self checks are free and available for use at any time! So as i am scanning my items, the self check out attendee at around 12:25 (older,loud woman) decided she was feeling lucky and reach her unprotected hand into my cart to move a item I set a side to pay for separate with my other items. I immediately asked her "why during a pandemic would you voluntarily put your self in the position to touch some one elses items. I explained to her she can just use verbal queuing such as "excuse me sir!" She was unable to gather a answer pertaining to the question so she blurts out "Next time dont come in self check out 10 items or less with more items. So i looked at her puzzled! Then spoke with Matt (manager for 4yrs) but Matt is missing something in my opinion! But he never introduced himself and actually come to find out he was the one who made her even focus on the fact that i had more than 10 items as opposed to her violating people's personal space at a time like this. I just wouldnt call him friendly or mean just seemed complacent in his duty! He has been in that position for 4 yrs as per his name tag! Matt hope we both learned from this encounter! Dropped by this location of the much vaunted Texas grocery store chain yesterday in order to pick up some toiletries and booze. To say that this location is "unimpressive" would be understating it slightly. The appearance of the walls, ceiling, and flooring of the building give the resemblance of an aging, tired building that's desperately in need of a refresh. Some of the shelves are bare, creating an even more desperate look. Having been in brand new or even just well maintained HEB's over the years, I can say that it's not the norm for this chain. So, shop with impunity elsewhere, but steer clear of this dingy location. read more

The whole point of reserving a time slot for pickup is to remove the need to wait in line. Why then, am I sitting in a line of cars wrapped around the parking lot just waiting for a "pick up" parking spot to open up? And why is this line 3x the number of actual pickup parking spots? If there is a high volume, space out the reservations, or block off every 1/3 to keep up, that is the entire point of a reservation system, I would happily wait a week for my turn to not have to wait in this 60 minute 30 car line just waiting for a pickup parking spot. The employees are doing their best but they just can't keep up. I now have to choose between making an important appointment or picking up my families groceries. read more

We usually use the Pharmacy at that location, but stopped by this location to pick up some allergy medicine yesterday because it is closer to our house. We had the displeasure of being "helped" by a woman named Celeste in the Pharmacy. What a b*tch! She was completely unhelpful and rude! Don't get me wrong, we love shopping at HEB, but this location is not our favorite. Selection is not as good as the Brodie or Circle C locations, but is closer to our house, so we often end up here when we are only grabbing a few things. The employees are always helpful, but the clientele can be a bit trashy at times. If that woman Celeste is working at the Pharmacy, I would suggest waiting for someone else to help you. read more

Sooooo, went to this location because I was in the area. It's not a plus or a central market, but a bit of a mix. Don't get me wrong, I did like shopping at this location, but, and here is the crux of the matter. Paying for plastic bags. Really, I'm not my car but was in someone else's, so I didn't have my usual clutch of bags for shopping. And since there is no bag ban in Austin any longer, one should be able to grocery shop and receive the service of getting their groceries bagged without having to worry about paying for bags on top of paying for a week's groceries, or have to put all my groceries in the basket myself, pay, then take my unbagged groceries to the car so I can hear them rolling around in the car because HEB at this location is too lazy to order paper bags, and so cheap they charge you for plastic bags. Which they were quick to put my meat and poultry in the regular plastic bags they offer at their other locations like they're candy. They keep these special plastic bags under lock and key, and waited until she was completely through ringing everything up to ask how many did I want to pay for. NONE, IF I SPEND OVER TWO HUNDRED IN GROCERIES I SHOULDN'T HAVE TO PAY FOR BAGS. So heads up, next I walk into a grocery store, if they think this is a way they can make money off me, I will be taking my business elsewhere, as Randall's, Sprouts, and Whole foods offer bags without question. And you can spend that bag money paying for someone to put back all those groceries I will glady leave at the checkout since HEB needs them more than I do, because I am not going to pay for something that is part of your customer service, which HEB apparently forgot. read more

Heard this specific store has issues with problem resolutions. There was an incident that clearly was the stores fault but no acceptance of responsibility by the store whatsoever. Due to the price and convenience of supermarket shopping, I'm forced to shop at this location to feed my family on a weekly basis. Admittedly, they have a good selection of bakery goods, deli stuff, and meat here. Over my numerous trips to this location over the years, there's a few ways this place could definitely improve. 1.) Stocking groceries. Can you guys please stock the groceries before the store opens or after the store closes? So many times I have found myself stuck in an aisle, blocked by 3 or 4 employees stocking the shelves, and then having to wait for little old ladies to maneuver around them before I can finally get the items I need and get out of there. 2.) Available Cashiers. The cashiers here are fast, and I rarely have to bag my own groceries, and this is nice. But there are so few cashiers available sometimes, that the customers and carts really start to pile up. Sometimes I have to park my cart behind someone else already waiting, and at that point, you're way out into the walkway. At times, they will open new registers to quickly expedite customers when it piles up, which I appreciate, but it doesn't happen often enough. Otherwise, this is the decent neighborhood H-E-B.
