Fantastic dining experience from start to finish. No wait for our table. Ambiance is dark and cozy, perfect for a special night out. Keke is a gem! She was so enthusiastic about the menu and such a delight to interact with. Also she was totally on her game. We didn't want for anything. The food was excellent: the gumbo was stellar and my NY strip was so tender I didn't even need a steak knife. The cook was also perfection. My sautéed spinach was garlicky and green. Even their bread was great! My husband raved over the au poivre filet and mash. We both left groaning. They definitely give generous portions, we couldn't finish a single dish, so in the future perhaps we'd share. But if you have a way to store it, you'll likely have leftovers! A great steak, Manhattan and friendly staff...I don't need anything more! The small filet, 8 oz, made a nice dinner. Finished with butter, the steak had a deep beef flavor that was excellent. The steak was well prepared at medium rare and really had a wonderful flavor and the accompanying side of creamed spinach made for a great meal. They start with a garlic bread basket, full flavored with garlic, it is a good start to the meal...but don't fill up on it! After a long day of traveling and flight delays, we were seriously craving a good steak, and Hal's ended up being the perfect choice! It was conveniently located within walking distance of our hotel, which made the decision even easier. From the moment we sat down, the experience was wonderful. Our server was an absolute delight (Houston), so kind, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. We both ordered the filet mignon au poivre with a side of truffle mac and cheese, and everything was incredible. The steak was cooked perfectly, rich and flavorful, and the mac and cheese was indulgent and delicious. Even though there was a bit of a wait, the staff was so apologetic and accommodating that we truly didn't mind at all. They have great drinks, but not much in the way of non alcoholic beverages. My water glass was kept filled, so no complaints here. Our server was great, friendly and knowledgeable. We went the day after Valentines day so there were out of two things I would have lived to have ordered. But they made up for it with the beautiful roses on the table. Hubby had the duck l'orange and it was 10/10. Loved it. I ordered the veal picata. It was good but a little too salty. We had the creme brulee, and it was one of the better ones I've had in a while. The texture was perfect. We felt a little silly going to a steakhouse and not having steak, so we will definitely be back. Dalene was AMAZING! What a server!! I came here with a girlfriend for her birthday, we had some Aperol spritzes, and we split a wedge salad and a veal dish. It was very tasty. Perfect amount of food and the veal was thinly sliced. A spectacular dining event to celebrate a milestone birthday! We arrived early for our reservation and the friendly host explained they wouldn't be able to seat us till our scheduled time but make yourselves happy at the bar. Enough said! They came to get us right on time and got us seated. Dark paneled walls with chandeliers and smaller dining areas make this a cozy dining space. There is also seating upstairs with private dining rooms. Taylor was amazing and made our dining experience fantastic. He was engaged, made great suggestions and checked on us often. He started with our drink order while we checked out the menu. They brought us the garlic toast and we ordered our meal. Food was 100/10! Steaks were done perfectly to temp. Taylor had suggested a peppercorn sauce which my dining companion tried and loved. The asparagus and mashed potatoes were also delicious. After dinner we were brought out a birthday treat to bring an end to our amazing meal. Our first restaurant stop in a city we've never been to. Hal's was walking distance from our hotel in downtown Nashville. This restaurant has been here for less than a year but sure is making waves. Our server, Mike, was literally the best server we could have asked for. His food suggestions from the Lobster L' Beaux to the Shrimp & Crab Remoulade were just amazing! I had the Filet au Poivre with a side of angel hair pasta and my hubby had the Bone-in Filet Mignon with the Truffle Mac & Cheese. We shared the brussel sprout side dish...delish! Enjoyed an evening here for a business dinner meeting in their private room. Seating was good for the 14 of us and the waitress was wonderful too. She did a great job with overview of offering as well as seeing that our glasses were refilled and everything arrived timely. The food was good. Hal's "The Steakhouse" is a classic steakhouse experience. The tablecloths are snow-white, we had a live musician, and the waiters are very professional. The prices are mid-range for a steakhouse (still quite extortionate). The steak was good quality, but the sides were a bit underwhelming. Here's what we tried: -Filet Mignon Au Poivre: 9/10 - I got mine cooked Pittsburgh style and rare, while my boyfriend got medium rare. Both were cooked perfectly to our desires. The steak had a lovely flavor, and was a good portion. The cognac sauce was also to die for. Couldn't get enough. -Brabant Potatoes with Garlic Butter: 7/10 - They were good, nothing special. I honestly couldn't taste the garlic butter at all, but the crispness of the outside with the soft potatoey inside was nice. -Sauteed Spinach: 6/10 - Run of the mill. Garlicky, nothing special. -Brussel Sprouts: 8.5/10 - Loved these Brussels!! They were clearly deep fried which gave them the utmost crispness with a super rich flavor. I didn't love the addition of the onion/bacon bits, though. -Truffle Mac: 6.5/10 - It was okay. The flavor was good at first but soon the truffle became sickening (and I LOVE truffle). I visited Hal's for a special event, so I didn't have a traditional sit-down meal, but I did get to sample a wide variety of menu items... and wow. First off, the espresso martini. This is a proper espresso martini with real, quality coffee behind it. Highly recommend. As for the food, the steak was everything you want from a steakhouse (no surprise there), the lamb was absolutely incredible, and the lobster was another standout. We had a really large team dinner here and our private event had a preset dinner menu with solid options. The room was just our group and we were sat at multiple tables with 6 per table - it was perfect. The space was dimly lit and the service was on point. They had quite a few folks taking care of us and I felt they did a great job with such a big group. There were no delays on drink orders, and each course came out spaced perfectly. The food was pretty good - I wasn't blown away by the majority of the dishes, although I will say the potatoes were *chefs kiss* and my steak was cooked perfectly. Bartenders were very accommodating to allow tasting of 2 of the Cabernets offered by the glass. Food menu is excellent lots of offerings Beef/Seafood/Poultry/Veal and Pasta. House garlic bread to start was tasty. Followed by House Chopped Salad with House Vinaigrette. Star of the meal was the Filet Medallions pictured below! Cooked perfectly med-rare and blackened. Did not expect 3 nice sized filets so much food for 1 had to get a to go bag (since staying at the Joseph the leftover was given to the doorman who was beyond thrilled). Did not try dessert but can only imagine it's excellent. If traveling solo and staying at nearby hotel definitely worth end of work week dinner and sitting in the bar area. Also noted the high top tables in the bar area are 1st come/1st serve. We reserved a private room here for a birthday celebration (which has a minimum) Before hand we called if they could move us to a different room to accommodate us for losing a few number of guests from our party. Over the phone, they said they would be able to make the change, but when we arrived, they said they wouldn't be able to move us. We told them of the situation, but from then on it just seemed like they didn't care to show us any sort of hospitality. Staff were rude (minus a few). We'd ask questions and had one of the waitresses walk away without even acknowledging or answering the question about an item on the menu. We waited for almost an hour before we were finally able to get our first orders in. We also ordered a few of their champagne bottles to find out they weren't stored properly, showed up flat with no carbonation. We explained this to them and they were able to replace it with another bottle with no issues. We eventually ordered more bottles and had the same problem with the next couple of bottles. At that point, it was all downhill from there with the staff. They became very unprofessional towards our party. If we're paying "premium" prices for the bottles, we would expect to have premium bottles with proper storing and flavor. Probably one of the worst experiences that we've had at any restaurant. Would be 1 star but I will give them 2 stars because of their kitchen! Food was actually one of the best experiences for me. The food was cooked to perfection along with the presentations of the dishes. I had the sea-bass and my wife had the ribeye (no pic unfortunately) along with a side of spaghetti. So big shout out to their staff working the kitchen! came here a little while ago to celebrate a friend's birthday and had a good time. several people ordered drinks that they seemed to enjoy, but I went with the sparkling water. the server was very quick to refill our waters which was nice, but unfortunately, throughout the meal, he confused those of us who had sparkling with those who had flat water. As a result, I ended up getting refills of flat water instead of sparkling (resulting in what tasted like flat sparkling water) while others had the reverse experience. After the 2nd time of this happened, I asked our server to get a me a new glass so that I could get the true sparkling water that we order and he was obliged. As for food, for our appetizers/sides we got the Mussels in White Wine Sauce, Oysters, Broccoli, Mashed Potatoes, and Brussels Sprouts and for my own meal, I ordered the Caesar Salad and Bone-In Filet. My favorite appetizer/sides were the Brussel Sprouts by far! These were some of the best I've had in a long time as they were super well seasoned and perfectly cooked. The others were good, but nothing extraordinary. I also thought the Caesar Salad was really fresh and delicious. Now for the steak, I ordered it to be made medium rare because I knew if it was a tad overcooked, it would still be medium which I enjoy. Unfortunately, though, the steak came out medium well. I let our server know and he had me cut it to show what the middle looked like and he agreed that it looked medium well (minimal pink). He double checked his notes and saw he had indeed written it down as medium rare and that what I received was not correct. He took it back to the kitchen and worked to get me a new one. In the meantime, the manager came by and gave me some gumbo to snack on while I waited for my steak. I appreciated the swiftness in making me a new steak, but it also meant that I didn't get to enjoy my food with everyone at the table as my steak arrived as everyone else was finishing theirs. Nevertheless, when I got the second steak it was appropriately cooked and was incredible - super juicy, tender and flavorful. I really enjoyed it! Additional note - while I waited for my steak I also tasted my friend's steak, she got the Hal's Ribeye, which I thought was moderately better than mine (other's agreed this was the best steak at the table), but my was excellent too! my other friends, on the other hand, all got the various versions of the filet mignon and they did not enjoy theirs very much and wished they had gotten other steaks. Overall, somewhat of a mixed experience here, but the staff's quick work to rectify the order and the truly incredible Hal's Ribeye, Bone-In Filet, and Brussel Sprouts are the reasons I gave it 4 stars! read more

As someone who has eaten her way through Nashville, Hal's is in a league of its own. We have visited a few times, and the service, food, and ambiance is second to none. The interior is reminiscent of an old-time steakhouse and paired with the live piano brings New York vibes. There is an extensive wine list, but no cocktail menu. However, they make the classic and should you be in the mood to experiment the bartenders are happy to create something for you to meet whatever flavors you are looking for. The service is amazing and some of the best you can find in Nashville. These are by far the best steaks we have had in the city. So flavorful, buttery soft, cooked to perfection--you can tell they take pride in their work. Both the lobster appetizer and the carpaccio are a must! The lobster is generous and comes in the most amazing lemony butter sauce and the carpaccio melts in your mouth. Wow, a FANTASTIC dinner. The venue is low-light, white tablecloths, view of kitchen, waitstaff buzzing around SUPER-efficiently, filling water glasses, etc. Our new friend, Jesse, waited on us in such a superb manner, not too serious, willing to joke and have fun with, but sooo knowledgeable of the menu and all servings. I could rave on... ALL food was delicious, the steaks prepared perfectly, salads and sides yummm. Ambiance was excellent, with class act music from the lounge by Joe Hand, which prompted us to stick around after dinner and have an aperitif in the lounge to enjoy his extremely talented music. But even with all that in a full restaurant, we could easily carry on our conversations without having to shout, or turn up my hearing aids, lol. When the manager, Dave Emerson (demerson@hals.net...he gave me his card), stopped by our table to ensure we were happy, and then again later when we were in the lounge to encourage us to continue to enjoy ourselves, (we even danced in the entryway)... that service just topped off this wonderful meal, by far the best that the 4 of us had enjoyed during this 5 day trip to Nashville... and we had enjoyed some fine dining, besides the typical bar food that we had on Broad.
