We came here at 3:30pm Sunday, rainy day so it wasn't busy at all. The food was as good as all other Japanese restaurant. The service was terrible, not only they forgot to put in one of my orders which made us waited for an extra 30min after we finished the meal, but also didn't refill our tea & took out the empty plates until I asked. If it was extremely busy, I would understand that they couldn't pay much attention to each table, but today it wasn't we case, we were the only customer during that time. My usual roll is the Lion King which is amazing if you enjoy salmon, tobiko, and unagi sauce on a baked roll. It's decadent, and is worth the $20 price tag. Only four stars because other things I've ordered here haven't been as phenomenal (high bar). The sake and hamachi sashimi didn't seem quite as fresh as at other local sushi places. Hanabi sushi is a solid 3.5-star place near the Rengstorff area in Mountain View. Located in the plaza adjacent to Costco (same as Ross, behind the Krispy Kreme and McDonald's), we come first and foremost for their rolls. The only downside is that it's about as expensive as any other sushi place in the Bay Area (i.e., rolls are $11-17), but if you accept the price of admission you'll come away with your taste buds satisfied. That's more than I can say than some of the other Japanese fare around here! Our favorites: Dragon Roll ($12.95) - Crunchy shrimp tempura with crab and cucumber on the inside provide the perfect texture balance to the soft avocado and BBQ eel on the outside. The drizzled unagi sauce also adds a salty-sweet flavor that makes this roll a perfect complement to fresh fish rolls. This one is my personal favorite roll and Hanabi has a good rendition of it. Mikey Roll ($12.95) - When we want more fresh fish in our meal, we go for the Mikey. It's fish on the outside (Yellowtail and Salmon, with fish eggs aka Tobiko on top), and fish on the inside (Tuna with Avocado) - what's not to like? Very good texture profile. Rainbow ($11.95) - The other fresh fish roll we like is Rainbow, since you get Tuna, Yellowtail and Salmon on the outside, with creamy crab and avocado on the inside. Sometimes the avocado on the inside is not creamy as it could be (i.e., is a bit hard), but that's a pretty minor thing for a sushi restaurant like this. Overall, I feel pretty warmly toward Hanabi. It's A-OK in my books, but I get good feelings in my stomach whenever I go. It's definitely in my mind when I'm craving sushi and am in the Costco area. Not bad. I've been here a couple times and it's a solid sushi spot near MTV. I like it because it's close to work and I can pick up on the way home. Take out is better than dine-in in my experience. The first time I came I dined in and service was kind of slow. Today I got take out and my sushi was ready in 5 min. Very bad experience, although the food was fresh! They forged my credit card tip amount, basically just added $50. BTW, This was a take out! Will never go back there!!! The food was great and the waitresses were polite and friendly. They attended to our every need. We ended up going here after a bad experience at that shack down the street, "Japanese Tapas and Ramen- or DOHATSUTEN"- (read my review on that place- never been disrespected as a paying, hungry customer, in front of my family in my whole life.) I got a Bento Box that came with Fried Tempura and Tonkatsu. That was delicious. My wife had the Beef Ramen. Man, that was even MORE TASTIER!! I ordered a 2nd bowl to go. Stopped here on our way to San Francisco... Place was really empty, on a monday afternoon, so that kinda worried me, but yelp said 3.5 stars, so might as well try it. So the place is very clean. Service was ok...The lady taking our order could of been a little more friendly, but she was ok. Ordered some sushi rolls... Ordered a Rainbow roll (very good), and a Caterpillar roll (was ok).. Used to having these with just eel inside. But it had eel and imitation crab meat rolled in together, so that was kinda odd.. Also the rolls were kinda big...Which was good, but if i had known that i would of ordered one roll.. The miso soup was good, and my gf's bento box, with teriyaki chicken was very good. Can't say enough how much we love this place! Always a must whenever I am back home in Mountain View! Lion King roll, Hot night roll and my absolute fave of the poke roll (AN ABSOLUTE MUST) They have a smaller sushi bar and dining area, BUT their outdoor seating that is a cover patio is rather huge and could easily seat a big party comfortably. We have gone with both my sisters, their spouses and ALL 7 of our kids and we have been really comfortable. Even when we order for pick up our food is always FRESH and ready in less than the 15 minutes that they say. Since we lived literally 7 blocks away. It's the go to spot for our sushi craving hands down. I will say and can't stress enough to how packed and super busy it can be during Lunch, because of all the tech buildings in Mountain View (Google, Apple, etc) but also because they are located right in the middle of the only Costco within 20 miles north of the peninsula (not saying sunnyvale since that's south) and the parking is crappy. plain and simple. Came here after the Raikou raid on Thursday! Not my first time here, the menu and the table arrangements changed a bit. We ordered: Gyoza ($6.95) - 6 PC. deep fried, it's okay. Agedashi Tofu ($6.95) - 5-6pc (cannot remember) tofu and sauce served separately, which is good if you don't like your tofu too soggy. Hae Dup Bop ($20.95) - it is HUGE. And good portion of rice and lettuce (less rice than lettuce, which I appreciate). Came with some wakame (seaweed salad) in top as well. Chirashi ($21.95) - it's alright. Both entree also came with miso soup and a side salad. It was nice that they provided cute plastic plate for kiddo. The price is average to above average for the area, and the quality is mediocre. I seriously don't know why I keep coming back. But I beg you, no more. It's a pretty popular lunch spot since it's in the Costco plaza in Mountain View, but I don't really know why.The service is so bad, the waitresses don't even smile or greet you. They just look so busy and understaffed. Regardless, this review is about the food. Ok, for a lunch bento box that comes with miso soup, salad and rice, it's $8.25. Not bad right? You get to choose 2 items from 2 lists they give you. If you order sashimi, keep in mind it's the cheapest kind: tuna. I really like the salmon teriyaki here, which is the reason I keep coming back. The rice is really good here for some reason too. Now, the crap parts. You can tell that their miso soup is from a package. The seaweed isn't fresh and there's barely any tofu. The salad was even more terrible too! I was about to yell out "uhm, can I have some salad with that dressing?" it was drenched in mayo sauce and I could hardly pick out the leaves from the dripping white dressing. So gross. To top it off, I got california rolls,aka a 4 piece roll of stuffed mayo mixed artificial crab. I really wanted to throw up, and I couldn't finish the plate. It's located in the Costco plaza and well if things turned out badly you can also go across the street to In n Out. We both ordered the Hanabi Special Bento A - comes with salmon teriyaki, tempura, nigiri, sashimi, ca roll, salad, soup, grilled veggies, and rice. It's a lot of variety and definitely got me full, but I was sad about the small piece of salmon teriyaki. It's not much bigger than my thumb. Well I guess they make up for it by the amount of sushi that comes with the bento. Not too bad for $16.95. Although if I want a cheap good bento I would head to Hon Sushi off Shoreline. When I crave more variety I'd come here. We didn't bother getting any sushi rolls since it was $$. Their rice tea was really good and super strong flavor. I agree with the other reviewers that the service isn't the best. Yes, the one and only waitress was really nice, but she's only one person and couldn't tend to everyone promptly. read more

I've never had a better sushi experience. The server for our party of four was very professional and timely. Our orders were accurate upon arrival. The fish was sashimi-grade fresh, and the bulgogi was succulent, moist and delicious. Of course, everything tastes better with Asahi beer, doesn't it? The saki didn't hurt, either, trust me. The restaurant ambiance was modern and tasteful, and the place stayed busy during our time there. Which dragged on a bit late, and our server politely informed us they were closing. Blame the beers and the saki. The prices seemed reasonable, although my thoughtful and generous daughter-in-law picked up the tab. It indeed was a lot cheaper before but we'll, inflation, not blaming their price change. The dining environment is quiet and cozy and staffs are very friendly, good service. The staff speaks Japanese! My wife absolutely adores this. The takoyaki comes with 2 skewers and the portion is actually pretty good compared to some other restaurants in the Bay Area. The atmosphere is decent, nothing to complain about. They have a few TVs playing sports. The prices are average in my opinion. But I really enjoyed my meal! Their menu has great pictures and the sushi is delicious. You can tell the chef uses fresh ingredients and is well practiced. I highly recommend this place! read more

Ordered via DoorDash and my daughter and I loved it. We ordered the Asparagus roll, Avocado roll, California roll and the Philly roll. All were delicious! There was not too much rice, which allowed the ingredients to shine. We also ordered a Bento box with Beef teriyaki and Veggie tempura. The beef was very good, not a thin cut of beef it was delicious. The tempura was still crispy and there was a lovely selection of veggies which included asparagus, zucchini, sweet potato, carrot, cauliflower and acorn squash. We will order again. I suspect that S.F. fell victim to a DoorDasher that picked up multiple orders and that is why their food was late and cold. I too have had that happen and let DoorDash know. read more

Been coming to this place since 2014, damn thats a long time. If you like smoked salmon, bruhh.. this place is the one for you because they smoke it in house! Jay (such a great guy) told me they got their own smoker which i noticed when i first tried. All of their fish is fresh and always fulfill my need for sushi. I love love love sushi, I'll have it any time but not at any place. I just moved up to the area and am trying to find my regular sushi place to adopt. This is a worthy suitor for sushi, but not for other Japanese dishes. There is a large selection of sushi to choose from including simple to baked to specialty rolls at reasonable prices. I ordered a Philadelphia Roll for $7 and got exactly what I expected. Six pieces and no surprises, consistently sliced fish with the right ratio of cream cheese with fish and avocado. Nice. It was my friend's order that was a huge disappointment. She got the bento box with chicken and California Rolls. There was a generous amount of chicken but it was straight up cold when it arrived at our table! There was also a fried tofu stuffed with sweet rice. I can't decide if I liked it or not, but it was an interesting component to the dish. Unfortunately, the coldness of the chicken really overshadows everything else in the bento box... Lion king roll was good. 911 was good, had a bit of spicy sauce but there's a bit of a crunch like celery taste at the end which kind of throws you off. 101 was a fried roll, but really plain , didn't have much flavor . They took forever to bring us out our rolls, and brought them out individually..when other people who came after us were getting their food first...didn't like the service too much.
