This is my all time favorite sushi place. Everyone is always friendly and it has a nice atmosphere. I love to get spicy of any type of sushi and they have a crunch they put inside instead of how some places just put sauce on top. They have a lot of unique rolls too! Our all time favorite restaurant. Best suishi in our area, and there are about 6 nearby. Efficient, friendly professional. The Superstar Roll is my husband's favorite and the Zebra Roll is mine. The restaurant is lovely inside and has an ambiance of tranquility that makes the meal all that more enjoyable. I recommend it but hope you do not come so often I am made to wait. read more

Out of all the sushi restaurant's in the Hampton Roads Hanaki is by far our FAVE, not only for the Fantastic food but for the wonderful people that work there as well. We like to try at least one new item every time we go and with their reasonable prices we can afford to. You would think my 6 year old would want to go to one of these fancy sushi places with the Decorative furniture ,fish pond and candy machines but she loves going to Hanaki visiting with Jessica and the crew there, plus their portions of Salmon are bigger than most! An absolute family favorite. We eat here as much as possible and have been since they have opened. Every time I go its so relaxing and refreshing. I always order the spicy crab cake role with clear soup and white rice. My favorite of all time. The first bite is always my favorite. I cant even describe how it makes me tingle. FOOD SEX. The wife gets a mixture of things I cant pronounce and the kids get California roles. I will continue and will always take my business to them and only them. The white tuna is melt in your mouth good. Service is excellent. The sushi and sashimi is fresh and very tasty. Prices are reasonable, especially for the massive variety of rolls they have. I look forward to the seafood platter with fried lobster tail next time as well. I did not find any alcohol on the menu, to include no beer. I ordered to go. They had messed up my order and the guy who gave me my order corrected. As I was signing my check this one girl had the nerve to talk crap about me right in front of me, but just not in English. From the second we walked through the door of this small unassuming restaurant, we knew good things were to come. We were greeted warmly by the cutest little waitresses. A simple, modern decor was strangely war and inviting. We decided to try a few different apps before jumping into the sushi. The Shumai were absolutely decadent. Fresh, sweet shrimp flavor and a melt in you mouth texture. Easily something I would eat every visit. We followed that with the seared Yellow Fin Tuna which was had a perfect thin sear served over a small salad and drizzled with a teryaki sauce which was neither overpowering or overly sweet. The Tuna was wonderfully tender and fresh. Our final app was the Spicy Octopus Salad. Wow! Thin slices of tender octopus with juilliened cucumbers, dressed lightly with a dressing with the perfect balance of sweetness and heat. I could have easily made a meal of this dish. After quickly inhaling the salad, we decided to make the move to some Sushi. We decided to go with a variety of rolls...both simple (Salmon Roll, Rainbow), which were great and some of their signature rolls. The Spicy Scallop was phenomenal. A blend of naturally sweet fresh scallop and the perfect amount of heat mixed with what I can only call"Tempura Cracklins". Texture and taste=perfection! The Treasury Roll arrived with copious amounts of various roes and gold leaf...I wish I could remember what was actually in it...but we devoured it so quickly. All I can say is...get it! After our first round, we decided we needed just one more roll. The adorable waitress recommended the Hickory Roll. Surrounded by tender seared tuna and filled with conch and red clam and a delightfully sweet sauce. This was by far my favorite of the night. No soy, wasabi, or any other condiments needed. I was only in town for the holidays visiting my parents...but if I were local...this place would be on the top of my list as a regular haunt! read more

We just went back recently with our 5-year-old daughter. We ordered the Disney Roll for her, which they brought out with a mini palm tree and a Christmas tree made out of that clear/white stringed vegetable with an LED light inside! Classy.
