Omg where do I begin! Everytime I come to Hanamuru whether it's order out of eating out I just feel so taken care of! Great staff sweet souls that are offering fire food that not only fills your belly but your soul. Did not order this little dessert and we were gifted this and it's just a little depiction of what this beautiful staff does for their patrons. LIKE ALWAYS LEAVING HANAMURU WITH A HUGE SMILE IN MY FACE AND A BELLY FULL OF GOOD FOOD

We celebrated my son's 16th birthday. We enjoyed the Fresh sashimi and other wonderful entrees. The vibe is always friendly and welcoming, so it is a wonderful place for any occasion ranging from simple dine in to special occasions.

Fish didn't taste fresh so that was very disappointing. I ended up removing the fish eggs off my rolls too and eating the sashimi with the lemon slices to make it better. The restaurant was strangely very empty on a Sunday night and the place smelled very strongly of bleach, which was super displeasing. I was considering leaving just because of the smell. They did frequently check on our table and offered water refills which was sweet but also awkwardly disrupted conversation.

I ordered for take out but didn't pick up my order, so my review is primarily on the Lion King roll! It's a bit expensive here - about $16-17 for a Lion King. To be honest, I was a little underwhelmed with the quality of sushi here. The salmon had a strange slimey texture, and the entire roll was drenched in a sweet and spicy sauce which overpowered the entire roll. The "roll" part of the sushi was fairly standard but nothing extraordinary. The previous reviews concerning the foul smells in the restaurant are definitely worrisome too lol - I'd likely visit another sushi restaurant in the future!

This place is only doing pick up. I always place my order online, which I think that's the best way so you know exactly when to pick it up. I like it because I get an email that they received my order and the approximate time to pick up my food, so I know when to head out. I like to order the lemon roll, rainbow roll, saki nagiri, and sometimes try a random different roll. Also, this time I grabbed the baked mussels as an appetizer. The baked mussels had a lot of sauce which I liked. The fish is always fresh and they don't go cheap. Everything I've had so far is really yummy. I have no complaints. The workers are friendly and the food is worth it.

When you want some affordable with lots of options for you to choose from, come to Hanamaru. So many options and so many combo to choose from and they are all good. It comes in a huge quantity. The waiting time was quite short. I ordered a lot and it took no more than 30 minutes. It is located in a corner of the plaza so look closely. It's not a small place and it looks weird at first, not like a sushi place. But it is very good. Please come try and support this place.

Our meals came with complimentary miso soup which was a very pleasant surprise. We got First Date, Haru, and Dragon rolls. All three were solid and fish tasted fresh. Generous amount of toppings and sauce on each as well. The agedashi tofu was nicely breaded on the exterior and sauce complemented the tofu well. Sure enough we met at the PC off Mathilda in Sunnyvale. This neighborhood sure has grown. Kal's BBQ was still there, my food service account about 20 years ago. I found the PC and parked in the multi level garage just behind the restaurant. Still an early dinner time at 5:15ish, I sat at the to wait and pursue the menu. Now I've eaten several times at the Mountain View location and enjoyed it very much. This spot, well seemed kind cold, empty and I was not approached in the 10 or so minutes I sat at the bar...menu's changed. Smaller or fewer offerings, ok keep focused on what you do well, cut some costs works for me. The kids showed up, still nobody So I grabbed three menus and sat us along the wall at a four top. The server came right over once we sat and we were good. Beverages were ordered and I had decided on the Seafood and chips with cole slaw and a dinner salad. A ordered two sushi roll plates. Aa ordered something but I don't remember. The food was out in good time, I was disappointed that my salad hadn't arrived before my entree....oh well. The salad had the house dressing, I typically ask for the dressing that is house made, I couldn't hear/understand what dressing she said. Anyway the salad was good, I liked the edamame beans as a topping garnish. The Seafood fish, calamari and coconut shrimp and spicy fries, good Looking further it appeared that the cooking time in the fryer was, well inconsistent. The Coconut shrimp cooked to almost burned which made the shrimp dry, spicy fries just a notch below burned but good. The two battered cod pieces, I'm not sure as the battered crust was not too sturdy and fell off the fish. Then the calamari seemed to be cooked just right, a bit on the lighter side. I still ate it all. I didn't eat the cole slaw, it looked as if it was from a few days ago, dry tasteless. As our table was cleared plate by plate I saw Aa hadn't touched his black beans. Now black beans are a favorite of mind, these were tasteless. Aa looked at me as I finished my bite of his beans and said "I didn't like them either". The vibe was not there as it is in MV, my own sense of things. If I didn't know the franchise I wouldn't return to this location, there's plenty of other places to get an excellent meal. See ya at the next place I drive to...thanks Foodguy-Martin.

I would say their food is 3.5 star but I rounded it up to 4 star because we got some really good service that went beyond our expectation + their dinner combo has really good portion. My husband ordered Shioyaki Saba (grilled Mackerel) + chicken karage (fried chicken, Japanese style). I had the 8 pc sashimi + beef teriyaki. We ordered two orders of tekka maki rolls, 1 kids' chicken teriyaki plate, and agedashi tofu. We thought we might need to add more food but end up we were so stuff by the end of the dinner. At first I thought the dinner combo would come in a bento tray. But no, each item was served in their own plate. The grilled Mackerel is the largest portion we have ever seen in the SF Bay Area. Husband got two filets on the plate. The bigger piece was as long as his lower arm (!). The second piece was like 75% of the bigger piece. He said the portion is like 5x more than neighborhood restaurants up in SF as one of the 2 items in a dinner combo/bento box combo. The chicken karage was like 10 pc in the bowl. He had to share with the kids. My beef teriyaki was like 2 thinly sliced steak. It's a very generous portion - except the rice. The rice is 1 scope of rice (think of Hawaiian BBQ scopes of rice). For those who watch out their rice intake/blood sugar, it's nice to keep it moderate. Oh, and the 8 pc of sashimi - they are on the thicker side - each bite is very satisfying. Oh, and the generous portion extended to the kid's chicken teriyaki plate. Basically it's the same entree plate as the grown up dinner combo, but minus the 2nd item, the soup, the salad, and probably 25% less protein (comparing to my beef teriyaki). But it's still a very generous portion for a child. From our experience, I would say skip their agadashi tofu. We ordered one and honestly it was disappointed. Their fried chicken was pretty good but the fried tofu, frankly, did not deliver. The coating was a bit off. The crunch from crushed almond (?) just did not work for me. Service, I was shocked by the attentive service. Frankly, I don't expect much in a neighborhood casual restaurant. As long as the staffs are polite, get our order right, serve us food, we would be very happy about it. But they went beyond our expectation. The sushi chef gave us the wrong roll (gave us salmon roll instead of tuna roll). The server immediately fixed it for us when I pointed it out. But my biggest surprise was the second incident - my son dropped one of his chopstick on the floor. As he picked up on the floor and before we raised our hand to ask for a new pair of chopstick, another server brought us a pair already (!) This is not a place that you would make a special trip. But I definitely think this is a lovely spot-on neighborhood gem for those who live near MV downtown. I see myself coming to this place on a weekly basis if I were still living in MV. If I ever come back again, I will definitely give their sushi rolls a try for sure!
