I'd say it's a solid 3. Located near Ktown, across from the Rack, and next to the Path entrance, hard to miss it. We wanted a quick dinner and found this spot with decent reviews (mixed), so here we are... early bird as usual... made a ressie but didn't need it, plenty of seats available. We grabbed 3 counter seats. Ordered the 4 Handroll set, along with a side of chicken karaage, and a hamachi carpaccio. Lots of counter seating with a few sit down tables for parties of 4. Pretty clean aesthetic and clean bathroom. The fried chicken was good (juicy yet crispy), the hamachi was delish (silky smooth with a hint of tang). However the 4 hand rolls were lacking... perhaps it's my selection: spicy tuna (ok), yellow tail (mid), snow crab and blue crab (very fishy, it's a no). The filling to nori ratio was not great... 30/70... all you'll taste is nori. (Compared to DOMO... hand rolls were amazing & would trade). Service was fine. The chef was quiet. We were low maintenance. Had mocktails. Nothing fancy. Overall tho, probably wouldn't return.

Came here on a saturday at noon, and there was no one there besides us, so walk ins are probably very feasible. The atmosphere was very nice too. I got the lunch set, which was a really good deal. It was 4 handrolls and a half portion of yuba soba for $28. The fish was very fresh, but other than that, nothing about the sushi was super outstanding. My favorite was the scallop. The yellowtail and crunch spicy tuna were also pretty good. Overall, would recommend for the value if looking for some cheaper handrolls.

The perfect sushi stop after a stroll along the west side. I randomly stumbled upon this spot while craving sushi and was a little hesitant to go in since it was right at the tail end of the lunch special, but they still kindly honored it for me. I grabbed a seat at the bar and ended up having such a relaxing experience. One thing I really appreciated was how attentive the chef was as he waited until I was almost done with each hand roll before preparing the next one, so every piece was fresh, crisp, and perfectly timed. The pacing made the meal feel thoughtful instead of rushed, and it turned a spontaneous sushi craving into such an enjoyable dining experience.

Went for a quick bite on a Saturday evening, and it wasn't too busy! I ordered the 5-handroll set since I wasn't too hungry, but I will say the handrolls were a bit on the smaller side and I feel like the rice lacked flavor, so the soy sauce + wasabi were necessary! Really cozy/comfortable ambiance, friendly staff, clean restroom, and they also have hooks for your jackets. They offer complimentary miso soup with your meal which is a plus!

June 16, 2026, went to try this Japanese restaurant. The service was fast and atmosphere was also good too. The quality of the food for sushi rolls were ok. I have had better. It was pretty pricey but what you expect in a tourist and expensive area. I had 6 Handroll Set , which included yellow tail, salmon, scallop, and snow crab which they charge you extra $4.00. As a business owner I am always traveling and trying different ethnic foods and give my opinion and ratings as a foodie.

Stopped by to try this place out with a friend, thought the food was just ok but pretty fun to wrap your own roll and they keep the seaweed dry by putting a plastic wrapper around and adding the fish on the top. A bit on the pricey though even with the lunch special. Good to try it once but probably won't be coming back. Not really that impressed with the food. Friendly staff and convenient location. Pretty empty when i was there on a weekday/Friday afternoon.

Overall, the ambience was nice and the servers were awesome (letting us stay late and not rushing us to leave), but the hand rolls were just okay. The menu is nice and straightforward; I ordered the five piece hand roll set and a side of edamame which was great since we could eat edamame while waiting for each piece to come out (not that it took long since the chef timed them well based on when we finished eating each roll). Sitting at the bar is also nice since it's cozy and there's a good amount of space per guest so you're not super crammed in. Also, I appreciated that there were hooks under the bar for bags. The hand rolls themselves were fine, on their own they weren't too flavorful so I definitely had to dip them in soy sauce + wasabi. Payment is via Toast which made it handy for splitting bills and tapping your credit card to pay. I might return, but I do think KazuNori is still my favorite in Manhattan for hand rolls (but at least Handroll Bar Rolling has less of a wait!).

My husband and I did walk-in at 4:30 on a Friday night and we were the only customer, granted it was 4:30. I did look at Resy the day prior and they have reservations available every 15 minutes so I knew walking in wouldn't be a problem. The decor was modern and cute. Upon walking in, we were warm greet with a smile and had the options of counter or table. If you choose counter, rolls come in a Handroll format. If you choose table, the rolls come in a temaki format, like a taco. We opted for counter so the rolls are served one by one. We got the 7 rolls set, 2 salmon avocado roll and yuba udon (fried tofu). The fish tasted fresh but the rice lacked flavor. To the point where my husband, who rarely uses wasabi and soy sauce, had to use it to give the rolls a little flavor.

The best value hand roll spot without sacrificing quality. They have a lunch special for 4 hand rolls that you can customize, and it comes with miso soup, all for $26, $28 if you get it with the yuba udon option. I got the shrimp tempura, snow crab, vegan beef, and spicy crunchy tuna. The shrimp tempura roll was average, but the other 3 were amazing, my top being the tuna roll. The miso soup was also so good! Service was great, my server paid attention to when I'd finish my current roll before starting to prep my next roll. The yuba udon was also delicious. The interior was very chic, lots of seating available at the bar area. I will definitely be coming back here

The other review that said they felt like they could make this themselves was 100% right. These were the most underwhelming hand rolls I have ever had in my entire life. The udon was warm and satisfying though.

    Yellowtail Scallion Tuna

Restaurant was incredibly clean Sitting at the bar is never my choice but we chose this and got to watch our rolls being prepped and cut. The sushi was so fresh with each element packing vibrant, natural flavor Every ingredient and sauce just had that edge above most places we've tried We were there for an early dinner and they served the food as if we were a high spending dinner table; a lot of restaurants cut corners on off peak days or times to save a dollar but not here! The service was so kind and attentive without rushing us or being intrusive; they offered a nice balance of the formality of a sushi spot while being warm

Handroll Bar Rolling in New York, NY. Nothing like a hand roll and a shochu highball cocktail! It's one of the best sushi hand roll spots! I love the assorted hand roll sets because you get a bite of everything. The shochu highball cocktails are super fresh and delicious. I would definitely recommend the sashimi if you love fresh authentic sashimi! 6 Handroll Set Tuna, Salmon, Yellowtail, Scallop, Crab, Crunch Spicy Tuna Sashimi - Salmon Sashimi - Tuna Beef Udon Chicken Karaage Shochu Highball - cocktail Yuzu | Peach | Lavender | Blood Orange | Moscow Mule | Calpico

Tbh, I was debating between this handroll spot and the one in Chelsea called kazunori. After waiting on the line at the other place, I decided to go here since there were seats and no line. I really needed to use a restroom too which was key. From the moment you walk inside the service was great and everything was very clean. Even the restroom was clean and the bidet inside of it was nice. This place is perfect for solo diners as I saw others by themselves as well. Regarding the food, I decided on getting the five handroll set. The different handrolls that I decided on were: the scallop, yellowtail, crab, spicy salmon, and tuna set. I also ordered the yuba udon which is fried tofu. I really wanted a soup and noodles were a plus. Everything was fresh but portion sized I still wanted more fish and rolls. The ambiance and food were good, but the portion size and price point wasn't that great.

We walked into a stylish, energetic space with a menu designed around sharing, making it a good option for a casual dinner or group meal. The interior has a contemporary, lively feel with an open kitchen that adds energy to the room, and the seating is arranged to accommodate both small groups and larger parties comfortably. Instead of sticking strictly to traditional Japanese dishes, the menu mixes familiar flavors with more modern presentations, creating a dining experience that feels both approachable and exploratory. The standout item is the katsu, which is where the restaurant really shines. We ordered the pork loin and tenderloin versions and found the breading crisp while the meat stayed tender and juicy, the crust holding up well without becoming greasy. The mazemen is another highlight, with chewy noodles and a rich sauce that brought a lot of flavor without feeling too heavy, the sauce coating each strand evenly and the toppings adding layers of texture and depth. Beyond those, dishes like the butter scallops, corn ribs, and seafood options added variety and made it worth ordering multiple plates to share. The scallops were well seared with a buttery finish, and the corn ribs offered a smoky, slightly charred flavor that paired well with the richer dishes. The desserts are also a memorable part of the meal. The corn ice cream is one of the more unique items, with a sweet and savory flavor that sounds unusual but works surprisingly well, the sweetness of the corn balanced by a subtle savory note that kept it from feeling cloying. It fits the restaurant's overall approach of taking familiar ingredients and presenting them in a more unexpected way, and the creativity of the dessert menu feels consistent with the rest of the meal. Service and atmosphere add to the experience, with attentive staff and a lively dining room that feels suited for groups. The team checked in at the right moments and kept the pacing of the meal comfortable, and the open kitchen added a layer of engagement as we watched the dishes come together. Reservations can be difficult to get, especially during busy times, and the small plate format means the best experience comes from ordering several dishes rather than focusing on one entree. The variety across the menu encourages sharing, and the pacing of the meal works well for a longer, more social dinner. konban delivers a well-executed modern Japanese dining experience. While some of the more hyped dishes may not completely live up to expectations, the katsu, noodles, and seafood dishes make it a worthwhile visit. The combination of creativity, quality ingredients, and a lively atmosphere makes it a destination for exploring different flavors and dishes together rather than just ordering one signature item, offering a meal that feels both engaging and satisfying.

The ube tiramisu was free since we wrote a google review for the restaurant. Everything was delicious and the zucchini was surprisingly good as well. The pork was so tender. the ebi tempura were huge, and the mazemen was thankfully not spicy. However, the scallops could've been more tender and we we were all unimpressed with the ube tiramisu. Overall, I would come back and would definitely recommend konban! Get the corn ribs, zucchini, pork katsu, and corn ice cream! I've taken a lot of friends here over the course of 10 years, and without fail, every one of them has walked out mindblown--and why wouldn't they?! The wait times have gotten better over the years (probably because people are waiting for the restaurant next door), but the food and drinks here are still top-notch. Staff is always great, and they all work so efficiently. I am generally a fan of izakayas, but there are very few that offer plates that are designed to be shareable, and this is one of the reasons the food here is so enjoyable in a small group setting. I am obviously biased and think they can do no wrong, but some of my staples that have stood the test of time: Kimchi cream udon, avocado tofu salad, salmon sashimi tacos, and the kani cream croquettes.
