Service isn't a priority here. I have had to get up and walk to the check out counter and interrupt a social gathering of waitresses, however this doesn't reflect on the food quality. We ordered Vietnamese egg rolls (delicious),alligator bites (small and insignificant ), Boudin balls (delicious), Mardi gras oysters ( mediocre). We also ordered crawfish. They advertise Cajun crawfish but these definitely have been enhanced with oriental hot sauce. Don't get me wrong they were excellent and the messiest crawfish I've ever had. I went to Hanks two weekends ago and got 2 pounds medium crawfish. The customer service was top notch!! I went home and the crawfish was good, I just wished they were a tad bit spicier. So I return on yesterday expecting to have the same experience. The young lady takes my order which was 3 pounds of spicy crawfish. She asked would I like garlic. I said yes. She gives me the total but what she failed to mention is that adding garlic is 50 cents extra each pound. I didn't appreciate that but whatever. The problem is when I got home, which is in Katy, and opened the bag. There was NO way that there was 3 pounds of crawfish in the bag and they were small. I was pissed!!!! The previous time I had only 2 pounds and there were more crawfish. To make it worse, there was hardly any garlic!!! Yes, the garlic that was extra!!! We originally were going to Wild Cajun but there was a 45 minutes wait so we figure let's try Hank's. No wait there. Immediately seated. There was a distinctive smell that I don't care for. Found out later it was the cleaning solution they use to wipe down the tables. We ordered crawfish, fried catfish filets, and cajun fried rice. Crawfish is currently $7.19/lb. Cheaper than other locations but quite small in comparison. Flavor was decent, nothing that would make us want to come back. Fried rice was terrible but not has terrible as the fried catfish. Batter for fried catfish is simply nasty. Service started out great but midway through dinner, it went down the drain. Took us almost 15 minutes to request a bag to take the remaining crawfish home and for our check. Overall, there are much nicer crawfish locations in Houston with better tasting flavors too. If I could give this place zero stars i would. I ordered the shrimp fried rice with wings and my wings weren't lemon pepper like i ordered not were they cooked all the way through. Bare in mind I have been here frequently over the last couple of months...The customer service is horrible and the food quality is declining...On this particular day I was wondering why the place was sooooo empty I was literally the only customer there...I ordered crawfish as I normally do...when my order came they were over cooked....I figured if I just tell the waitress she would have the cook remake the order and everybody would be satisfied like at any other restaurant...I know that restaurants usually precook certain things in order to keep orders flowing...But particularly with seafood you have to be careful with the manner in which you prepare it and the temperature you use to preserve it....When the crawfish came I began to eat it and immediately I could tell they had been previously cooked and reheated because they were over cooked.....Now they're advertising LIVE CRAWFISH...So I expect my order to go into the boiler LIVE...Not left in the water all day because business is slow....So I informed the waitress that was my order was over cooked she got on the phone and called the owner and told her what I said about my order....She came back and said unfortunately we cannot remake the order because the last time you came you said the same thing...Bare in mind I've been there about 5 more times since then because they fixed my order the one time it was wrong and the other 5 times I didn't have any issues...but never mind that...Then I told my friend where I was...She they just had a health inspection they had 15 demerits about food being off temp and improperly thawed.....‍No wonder nobody else was in there...Which I know restaurants sometimes have issues but to treat your customers with no regards is unacceptable...Also, I tip every time I go anywhere but they are too hard up for money...I offered to pay for the order because it was a measly $18...She said the owner said if we take it back we cannot remake it....Tell me what sense did that make? STOP EVERYONE PLEASE...Please don't waste your time or money going to this dump! I'm so disgusted with this place and will never ever go back again nor refer anyone else to go there. There is no rating that i can give on Hank's so 1 is pushing it. Ridiculously over priced. My fiance and i ordered 2 lbs of the garlic butter jumbo boiled shrimp that we had to fight to peel the shells off from being over cooked and also ordered an order of honey barbeque wings that were not that good either. However, the curly fries were pretty good. The customer service was not good at all. As this was my first time purchasing crawfish from Hanks, i sampled the "mildly" seasoned garlic flavored crawfish and ordered 3 pounds to-go. After purchasing the supposedly "mildly" seasoned crawfish, I travelled to north Louisiana to share with family that evening. When we arrived I was excited to share crawfish with awaiting family members but unfortunately, the crawfish were seasoned extremely hot. It was to the point that they were unedible and were thrown away. Spicy food is typically not a problem for me as I enjoy spicy food most of the time! But this was RIDICULOUS! I just spoke separately with the owner and manager 5 days after returning from my trip. I explained the problem with the crawfish and why I was unable to return them . They quoted the policy of no refund after purchase and offered a 20% discount on a future purchase. This offer seemed unfair. I was willing to accept something other than a cash refund so I suggested another order of "mildly" seasoned crawfish. In trying to reason with her ( the owner ) , I asked what would she have done in my situation. Her response was to soak the crawfish in water. As anyone knows this would have rendered the crawfish relatively tasteless! After telling her this, she stated that she was busy and didn't have toime to discuss it further. The take-away from this story is that if you are going to patronize Hank's don't "take it away". Eat it there so at least if something is wrong with your order ( particularly crawfish at $7.99 /lb) you may be able to correct it, Even better than that, check around and find another place with more responsive ownership. I wish I could give negative stars. I ate here last night. Upon entering I asked if the crawfish and oysters were fresh. I was told that it was. However once the food arrived, the crawfish and oysters were clearly NOT fresh. The oysters had a spoiled smell and tasted as it smelled. We asked for the bill and left barely eating what we ordered. We had not been to Hank's until about 2 months ago, and we have been back 3 times since. Even though it is a bit of a drive for us, it is worth it every single time. Hands down the spiciest crawfish we have ever had. Great size, amazing spice and great staff, Jenni is awesome. We get the extra spicy crawfish and a side of garlic bread to sop up the juice and spices. If you are looking for a spice that will make your nose run and make you sweat, this is the one for you. We also usually get a couple pounds of medium with garlic afterwards to calm our tastebuds down from the extra spicy. Went to Hank's on Saturday night @ 8pm - we were able to find a seat but the place was almost full. Big metal bowls of crawfish remains at every table. Only one child high chair, and two booster seats in the whole establishment - but its not exactly a place to take your kids. We did, and our 2 year old loved the children's meal of popcorn shrimp & french fries - not exactly a balanced meal, but none of us were there for that. My wife and I split 3 lbs of crawfish, medium spicy with garlic. The crawdads were of varied size, moderately large I'd say, and well seasoned, not just hot, and were delicious. The first few were spicy enough to cause me to cough while sucking the fluids from the heads, but I soon settled down and consumed the rest with gusto. Total price $23. I was recommended to go here by so many people and had heard lots of good reviews so I decided to give it a try. I went around lunchtime on a weekday and it wasn't that crowded - about 10 or so other customers and a few coming in to get take-out. Being that it was my first time there, I decided to order 3 pounds of crawfish (2 pounds spicy and 1 pound extra spicy) and my boyfriend ordered 3 pounds mild. It only took about 10 or less minutes for the food to come out, which was pretty fast. After eating my first crawfish, I felt like I could breathe fire. Holy. Cow. I did not realize how different my definition of spicy was from theirs. When I've tried spicy crawfish at other restaurants, it was just normal to me, but THIS?! It was crazy! I ended up only being able to finish the 2 pounds of spicy crawfish and ONE extra spicy crawfish cause it was too much for me to handle. I tried some of my boyfriend's mild crawfish and it was perfect. If you're a fan of spicy food, then I suggest you get either the mild or medium, unless you REALLY REALLY love spicy food, try out the spicy flavoring. I don't even want to think about what the "New Orleans Spicy" would taste like...but aside from the spiciness of their food, it was extremely delicious. People on Facebook told me & my wife a lot about Hanks Crawfish. Everybody raved about it to the point that it peeked our curiosity on how great the food was. So we went to the Bellaire location and ordered Crab cakes, fried shrimp, boiled crawfish, and crawfish etouffee. Our hungry salivating asses were about to dig into the bowl of etouffee and woulda know?! A damn ROACH! Just floating in the bowl like "I know you see me swimming in here, right?!" Had to lift it out of the bowl with my spoon to verify what my eyes just COULD NOT believe. I played it REAL cool, cooler than normal, didn't even create a scene, and told them we weren't paying for the meal. And they were in turn fine with that. Now... I could have just blown their spot by letting everybody in the join become aware of my horrendous discovery, who by the way were eating to their hearts content, oblivious to what we found in our bowl. My son wanted some crawfish so I decided to give Hanks a go. Ordered 8 lbs at $8.99 per lb for me and my boy. Raced home so we could chow down. Read some good reviews here so that's why I wanted to give it a try. I don't understand how anybody could rate this place any good for crawfish. At $8.99 per lb, I would have thought they sold live crawfish! The mud bugs tasted like they got a bunch of leftover crawfish from the Chinese buffet down the street and then just boiled it in soy sauce and crawfish seasoning. It was that bad... Crawfish was tougher than well done sirloin steak and the rest were just too tiny to even bother eating. I should have turned my butt around and skipped this place when I saw that it was empty at 7pm when I went to pick up my order... The crawfish were really good but their new policy of "what we serve you is what you get" sucks. They can prepare your food however they want (over cooked, under cooked, burnt or raw, under seasoned or over seasoned) and you can't send it back. We ordered boudin balls and they had NO SEASONING. I have recommended Hank's to at least 15 on my friends,co-workers, and family members. Not ONE of them have been disappointed YET! Hank's is a very good place to go for some good...I mean GREAT spicy mild, medium, or extra hot crawfish. If you like boiled cajun jumbo shrimp, then you need to go to Hank's...you won't be disappointed. I know good food when I taste it, and everything I have tried at Hank's has been "on point". Don't forget to try the Hank's Cajun Fried Rice (it has shrimp & chicken), it is delicious also. They have a Trio Fried rice with jumbo, and I do mean jumbo shrimp, crawfish, and crab meat. I hate that Claire didn't have the best experience, I see that Jill enjoyed her visit. Lately I average about 3 times per week going to Hank's....and "Y'all know this GAS TOO HIGH!" this is my all time favorite crawfish joint! i have been coming here for years and years. i watched the owner's nephew (or son) grow from a young adult into a grown man-married with a kid! i think they're running the place now, it's seriously been that long! hanks crawfish was one of my first ever times tasting crawfish, and boy, did they set that bar way high. the crawfish is so flavorful, just a perfect amount of those heavenly mystery spices! i may secretly soak my cajun fries in the sauce while eating but that's neither here nor there. ^_^ yes, the space is literally a hole in the wall but gosh guys, this place is seriously worth dropping a group of friends to come in a pair or just by yourself. you can get your spice preference in a few different levels; mild, medium, spicy, and new orleans spicy. spicy will burn your lips off your face so try medium. i try to listen to my own advice but honestly spicy is so worth the burnnn! if you want to feel the burn for over a week, try the new orleans spicy. and don't forget to try your crawfish with garlic for an extra kick! im not sure why the average rating is only 3 stars right now. my only assumption would be space. my only personal complaint would be that hanks dropped the ball over the years on the cleanliness of the actual crawfish and size. otherwise, the've beat all other crawfish spots (including other hanks locations) as far as taste and customer service goes. yes, flavor is everything so 5 stars for flavor. read more
