We have ordered from Hank's several times. The service has always been great. The servers are friendly and quick. There is ample seating, and a small area for outside dining. The food has always very good and hot. The smoked ribs and brisket is really good. The BBQ sauces are varied. The appetizers are large enough for a couple people to enjoy. I was not expressed with my meal I ordered the 1 Meat & 2 sides. I ordered brisket which is an extra $3.00 on top of the $14.00 price. Mac & cheese no flavor and overcooked, no seasoning, I thought I was getting corn pudding, but it was a piece of soggy corn bread, I couldnt eat the appearance was messy. I tried the fried green tomatoes, they are a frozen product, I was able to eat after removing the strange stuff that was on top. The brisket and ribs both had great flavor but i would have rather paid the extra money and went somewhere else for a better serving size and better sides. The sides were all terrible. The potato salad was just boiled potatoes, and Mayo topped with green onion. Not what I was expecting at all. The collards have some kind of salsa blend mixed in. So far, this is the best Texas BBQ I've had in Columbus, and this is coming from a Texan who still hasn't switched their license plate over to an Ohio one after living in Columbus for a number of years (Is that illegal? Please don't tell on me!). I can't say I've tried all the BBQ in Columbus, but I'm glad to have found Hank's. We passed by on a Saturday at 11:30am right when they were opening. The smoker was going, and it smelled so good so we couldn't resist. They have sandwiches as well as meat plates. We (two of us) shared a 3 meat plate with chicken leg, brisket, and jalapeno cheddar cheese sausage with potato salad and mac&cheese as sides. The plate was about $18 plus $3 for adding brisket. So far, all the brisket I've had in Columbus has been dry so I was really excited when Hank's was moist and a little fatty! The chicken thigh was smokey, and the sausage was super flavorful but a little dry. This was enough food for us as an entree but we did also order the queso fundido which was queso with pulled pork in it (highly recommend!) as well as the banana pudding for dessert. The banana pudding was okay, not bad, but not sure I would get it again. There are also a lot of different sauces to try such as the peach habanero, cold brew (not for me), traditional house bbq, Carolina mustard, and maybe a few more. It was fun to try all the sauces and find our favorites! I will definitely be back and am excited to try more of the sides/appetizers! read more

Finally made it to Clintonville to try. Nice patio. Inside was spotless. Servers very friendly and welcoming. There was a nice smell of smokiness but not too overwhelming. I ordered the brisket which came with 2 sides. I got corn bread and fries. The brisket was very tasty . On the table were several bottle of bbq sauces that our server explained. I tried most of them not that the brisket needed any enhancement. Not only was it flavorful but oh so tender. I did cut off the fat - most people enjoy fat but not me. I love a good corn bread and the serving was huge. I took one bite and couldn't eat anymore. There were whole pieces of corn in it which I don't care for. Also I prefer a sweeter and fluffier corn bread but that's just a personal taste of mine. The fries were crisp and tasty. I would not go all the way to Clintonville again just to go there but I would definitely check it out. It is not cheap though. read more

Disappointed in Hank's Texas BBQ. First, it was incredibly loud when we arrived just before 8, but thought it would quiet down when the scheduled 8 p.m. Trivia Contested began. Except it didn't. Trivia did not begin until after 9 p.m. and was itself kind of loud with a bad sound system. Once we were seated, we waited a long time for someone to serve us. I was ready to leave when my daughter flagged down a server who took our orders. Later another server asked us if we had ordered drinks as well (we had) and she brought us water and subsequently our beer and wine order. For dinner, we each ordered brisket with two sides ($14). Two slices of dry brisket. Fries and slaw were OK. Went home with a headache, and trivia game or no trivia game, we won't be back. Next time we want BBQ we will head for RayRay's. read more

The fried green tomatoes came with 3 and were perfectly cooked with such good toppers. I then got the 3 meat sampler with fries and spoon corn bread and the fries were cooked perfectlyyyyy. I honestly can't remember ever having fries that good perfectly crisp on outside w warm soft center. I never eat my sides first but the corn bread was like a dessert and I couldn't stop in time to take a picture. A chance visit resulted in one of the best brisket experiences of my life! I was searching for something fast and easy for a late lunch. After quickly realizing that the Harvest establishment across the street was definitely NOT a pizza shop , I popped in to Hank's and ordered the Hank's Way Brisket Sandwich and Fries. Wow! Savory and juicy meat covered in delicious veggies - the type you only find at those one of a kind food trucks that, like a mirage, appears once and never again. Fries were "county fair" quality without the greasy "where's the nearest restroom" after effects. I only got to sample three sauces (there may be more, but I was in a hurry). The house barbecue sauce was satisfying tasty; the peach sauce sweet and tangy; and then there was this sauce that I thought would be mustardy but turned out to be cheesy - yum! At $15, this is not cheap, but definitely worth the price of admission. The atmosphere (which I only observed in passing during my brief wait) was relaxed, friendly and welcoming. I look forward to going back with a few friends who will hopefully help me sample my way through the menu. We split the "barbqtery board" to try a bit of everything along with beans, spoon corn bread, and collards. The brisket and ribs were absolute fire. Chicken wasn't dry and had a nice smokey bark. The sides were all great. Interesting taste on the beans but refreshingly new and different. Collards were solid, and the cornbread was how it should be - sweetened by the corn and not a pound of sugar, with crispy skillet crust. Best BBQ in Columbus and very reasonably-priced. This is a pretty neat little spot. We got the Barcuterie plate which was a nice way to try things. Everything we had was good. The wait staff was friendly and hard working, but a bit overwhelmed as there were just two waiters for the whole restaurant which was nearly full. We were there on a 85+ degree day and they didn't have the AC on, just the garage doors open and it was unpleasantly warm inside the restaurant. This place would be a good spot to catch a game as they have a couple nice, large TVs on each wall. When we were there they were playing the local evening news which would not have been my first choice. read more

Visited Hanks on a Friday night to see if it lived up to the hype on Yelp. Parking was limited in the lot and we ended up parking on the street which was a quick walk over to Hanks. The atmosphere is casual and family friendly. The drinks were delicious - I ordered the watermelon mojito which was light and fruity. My boyfriend ordered the Smokin Jack with Jack Daniels and house smoked cola. We both ordered the 2 meat platter options so we could try a variety of things. Overall, everything was a little above average, my bf really enjoyed the ribs and collard greens. I thought the Mac and cheese and brisket were pretty good. The burnt end baked beans needed a little bit of something, we ended up adding some hot bbq sauce in them. The service was attentive, friendly and super fast! While at a party recently, the host had Hanks pulled pork, brisket, and sausage and all were delicious! We are going to host an event and decided that we too will have Hank's food. We recently went to the restaurant to sample a variety of their food to see what we would like to order for our event. The brisket, pork, and sausage were delicious. We also sampled the cole slaw, banana pudding and bread pudding. Everything was delicious! The service provided by our waitress was wonderful. She was kind, helpful, and very personable. The owner also came out and spoke with us, and is a very down to earth, nice person. We look forward to doing business with them not just for our upcoming event but also for future events. Born and raised Austin, Texas citizen and I've probably had it all in Texas and wanted to try some barbecue here while I'm in Ohio to give y'all an honest review. My boyfriend and I ordered the Barbecue charcuterie board, sweet tea, mac and cheese. Sweet tea was not sweet tea, it tasted like an Arnold Palmer with more lemonade than tea in it. Mac and cheese was mediocre but alright. Now for the important barbecue review: Pulled pork: okay- not dry but tasted the best with their green sauce (had some pineapple in it?? Don't remember the name) Brisket: wish I had gotten more than a couple slices on the board! But, I probably enjoyed it the most. Very tender as a brisket should be but needed more flavor on the rub!! Chicken: very crispy skin which was great. Somewhat dry but paired well with the garlic aioli sauce Sausage: fairly average but was good with peach habenero sauce was alright Ribs: not very good. Dry and hard to get off the bone. No flavor on the ribs themselves :( TL;DR: Overall, I feel like it's very much good barbecue made for Ohioans (I feel that food in Ohio doesn't have much flavor in general), but as someone from Texas who believes that food on its own should have flavor and doesn't absolutely need to be drenched in a sauce, it was average. We were very excited to try Hank's this summer. The aroma of their smoking meats is magnificent and can be smelled throughout Olentangy Village. We went in for dinner and sat ourselves outside. The atmosphere of the restaurant is very comfortable and chill, but still bbq-joint style. Our server was extremely nice and attentive. The facility and staff were both outstanding, but unfortunately the meal left much to be desired. My partner and I both ordered the one-meat plate. We wanted to try the half-chicken but they were out (to be fair, it was 8:00 on Sunday evening). We ended up both getting brisket plates (for 3 dollar up-charges each). The food came out somewhat cold and poorly presented. The prison-style trays might be a tribute to Texas's legacy of criminal incarceration but who knows. The brisket portion was very disappointing--one slice each. The fries were not hot. The beans had very good flavor but were also not hot. The slaw was good, but slaw is kinda impossible to screw up in my opinion. The white sauce and the mustard were my favorite sauces. Both very good. Anyway, the total came out to $17.00 for each tray, $5.50 for a beer, $3.00 for tax, and $8.00 for a well-deserved tip. Maybe casual lunches and dinners just cost $50.00 these days. You'd be better off ordering the full-pound of brisket ($28.00) for take out and fry-up some potatoes at home. I am glad we gave Hank's a chance, but for me, the value is just too bad to return any time soon. read more

My new favorite BBQ joint in town. Everything was delicious and they do some different things that other BBQ places dont. Hot cheeto dust sprinkled over certain dishes, smoked sausage links on a pulled pork sandwich, little things like that. This place is a gem!!! We have been twice with large parties. Food is fantastic, service is awesome! Plenty of TVs to watch sports, and little old school video games keep our kids entertained. They have drink specials every day (we had the smoked Jack and coke- yum!) and 3.00 off apps for happy hour! We LOVE the 3 meat plate w pulled pork, chicken and brisket!
