It was our first time here and we didn't know it existed but it was a good time for our first time! The atmosphere was calm, quiet, and friendly. Staff was busy taking orders and there weren't very many customers on the day we went. It looks like they have Keno and other things to participate in, but we did not. There's also bar seating available. There's a small lot in front and more parking in the back and some street parking. There's a bunch of other businesses around there that you can also visit. We got the 2 meats and 2 sides to share, which was pretty good! The brisket meat was a bit dry, but the sausage was delicious and juicy. The sides were pretty good overall! The entire meal was good, but it was missing something for me. We did get a few sauces on the side to dip and those made the meal a bit better. Good overall, I think I'd come back to try other meats and sides! Service was a bit slow, even though there was only a few customers. However, our server was very nice and accommodating! Okay. I was a big fan of Old Skool. I was said to see them go. Now we have Combustion, who doesn't have a kitchen. And my buddy informed me about Hank's having opened (and I felt oblivious to this). I was hungry, in need of food before the bike ride north. One old fashioned and some food later and I was set. It's the same layout as Old Skool - bar, tables. No more decor (I didn't really pay attention at the time, I was hungry - but I noticed they covered up a lot of the artwork). My buddy was worried they'd be "smoke heavy" (his wife isn't a fan) - but I felt like it was perfectly balanced. The fried green tomatoes were tasty, the sandwich was amazingly delicious and a touch smoky. All in all, I'm glad I have a spot to bike to that has this level of food and drink again. read more

The huge disappointment was in the meat; over 50% pure fat. I'd had my eye on this place after they opened, but their hours were limited on weekdays back then, and I just didn't have a chance to get over this way on weekends. Today I knew they were open earlier, and then I learned that they are open for lunch on weekdays too now. Right on High, with a small parking lot. Smallish inside but not cramped. Perfect feel for a BBQ place- wood, casual, nice enough but focused on the food. I got a Hank's Way brisket sandwich, with white sauce, sided with baked beans. Sweetie got a Plain Jane pulled pork, with greens. Baby K had sides, of mac and slaw. I also got curds, because I have to, and considered the candied bacon and the poutine but had to draw the line somewhere. I also got a couple rib bones to test them out. The Hank's Way is a darn good sandwich. The brisket is good, flavorful and smoky, and relatively tender. It combines with the sauce, toppings, and bun to be an excellent balance of flavors and textures. The beans were not my preferred style, being a bit soupy, but the flavor and the chunks of brisket made me very happy to reconsider. Sweetie liked her sandwich, didn't like the greens (I'll have to try them.) Baby K loved the mac, wasn't thrilled with the slaw (I finished it and loved it.) She did try some curds and liked them, and as a curd connoisseur I was impressed. Tasty, crispy on the outside, and a big portion. The ribs were meaty and flavorful. Service at the bar for carryout was great. Prices are reasonable for quantity and quality. There's a lot more on the menu that I want to try. If I'd noticed that Ray Ray's was just down the road I probably would have passed this by, but it is a close competitor. RR's brisket is a bit better, the ribs are a bit better here. The sides are all good at both places. Of course you can sit down here, not that you can't in some way at some RR locations. We'll probably stick with RR carryout, and come here if we want to dine in, but we enjoyed this plenty. read more

Went to Hank's BBQ in Clintonville and WOW I was not disappointed!! I only took a picture of the loaded corn cakes (they normally come with pico, but I don't like tomatoes), the plating was so pretty! The birria-style brisket was so tender, every shred was falling apart on my fork. The corn cakes themselves were beyond tasty, having sucked up all that beef juice. We also got the fried pickles and the bottlecaps (fried jalapeños) and both were beautifully crispy. They were thicker cut so they had some body to them, instead of feeling like pickle-flavored batter which can happen sometimes. The service was good, and the atmosphere suited Texas BBQ perfectly. You can smell the smoker going out back, which really gets you ready for barbecue. 10/10 would recommend. I'm not normally even the biggest fan of meat, but I want to come back again and again! Definitely going to check out the beer list next time. Only negative is the parking situation-- the lot is comically small, and difficult to pull out of, so definitely park on the street if there's space, or at the Condado lot next door. read more

But Hanks stands out because of environment (indoor & outdoor casual comfortable seating), side dishes & apps (interesting & flavorful) & the meats (holy smoked). Hanks sauce is a must if you like garlic& mayo, and even if you don't like sauce. Maybe they sell by the jar??? Watch out for the Jalapeno app, it is no joke.... made me want to choke. Our takeout order, however, was really disappointing. So I am suuuper impressed by Hank's food and want to come back and try EVERYTHING. Its def a hot new BBQ spot and I'm so glad its here in Columbus. Came here after a day trip to middle of nowhere Ohio (Schnormeier Gardens). It was a fairly hot and humid day and it was raining so weather wise not the best. The inside of the restaurant was humid and hot, don't think the air flow was great, so we sat in the patio. Food wise, I honestly wanted like every starter but we decided on the poutine and brisket nachos. We also got the barbquetery plate so we could try a bit of everything. Just so yall know the starters are HUGE. Def for sharing or as a full meal tbh. The poutine was amazing, the fries stayed crisp through the gravy and def was one of my favorite dishes. Def want to get meat on them next time as a full meal. The brisket nachos were also great, lots of flavors and textures. The bbq itself was also good, I enjoyed the brisket and pulled pork. The flavors were good and I could taste the smoke. The garlic bbq sauce was soooo good, made me think of like garlic sauce at middle eastern/armenian places. The chicken wasn't my fave, it felt a bit dry but I'm generally not a big fan of chicken at bbq places. Overall, def recommend Hank's and I will be back for 10001 starters! read more

Finally had the opportunity to try Hank's Texas BBQ this weekend and we loved it! A group of three of us ordered a queso fundido, BarBQtery Board and an assortment of sides - smoked almonds, mac and cheese, corn spoon bread, potato salad, and collard greens. Turns out the portions were huge and we WAY over-ordered, which is a good problem to have. I polled the group and we didn't have a bad word to say about any of the items. Among the favorites were the corn spoon bread (omg), the collard greens, and the queso fundido. I'd never had queso with pulled pork in it before, but now that I have, I don't know that I want queso without it. It's that good. The service was great. Popped in to catch the browns vs bengals game and grab some food. From the outside they have older style sign but inside was fully remodeled and was very cool. I especially loved the light fixture above the large high to table. I was craving a Bloody Mary and just my luck our waitress said they were on special on Sunday so I lucked out and ended up getting 3 ( hence why my picture quality is not the best). Great beer prices in my opinion too which was a great sight to see. We ordered the fried pickles and cheese curds to start. They were all fried tempura style which was different but very good. For my entree I ordered the hot and heavy which had pulled pork, smoked sausage and coleslaw. Loved the sandwich however I ended up taking off the sausage as it was a little chewy so I ate that separately. Honestly all of the sauce options they have are pretty tasty so you really can't go wrong. My friend had the Hank's Way Brisket sandwich with Alabama White BBQ sauce. I enjoyed the Alabama White BBQ sauce, Habanero Peach BBQ, and Hank's original BBQ sauce. Whoa, the BarBQTery Board is amazing. It consists of ample portions of smoked ribs, turkey, brisket, chicken thigh and pulled pork along with pickled veggies and Texas toast. All of the meats are coated with delicious rubs and smoked to perfection. You won't eat it all in one sitting, but you'll get a couple of more meals at home from the leftovers. The collard greens make a great side and for extra calories, go for the Steve's Way Corn Cakes. Dessert? Gotta go for the Key Lime Pie with blueberry compote. Superb! Hank's is pretty active on social media and the pictures that pop up in my feed for the specials have been looking pretty tasty, so I decided to place a to go order. For some reason, I found their online ordering system kind of confusing, but I was also in a hurry (HUNGRY!), so may not have been as attentive as I could be. Food was ready on time and I didn't stick around to check out the interior - I was in a hurry to get home and put up the patio umbrella and indulge. There are some big windows that open on the front, and some people at a high top right in the breeze that looked like a nice place to be. The cheese curds were really good. They didn't quite squeak, but they did have a trip in a to go box, so that is to be expected. They were nice with the ranch dip. This is a sharing dish for sure, it's a lot of cheese for one person! I had really been looking forward to the strawberry almond salad (no meat added) for the sweet and sour dressing, smoked almonds, and strawberries. I had ordered mine without blue cheese and without bacon. When I popped the box open, it had a generous sprinkle of both, in tiny little pieces that were very hard to remove. I pushed a lot to the side, and the salad was good, but the items that I really don't care for kind of overwhelmed it for me. I'd order it again if I were to dine in and had an opportunity to have that error fixed. Finally, I had the corn cakes. They come with a pretty intriguing sauce mix - harissa, pico, and sour cream. I wanted to try just the plain cake, so tried a bite from the bottom and ate a lot of my order that way, the cakes were that good! I finished these for dinner (left the box at room temp for a couple of hours) and they held up well. I'd really like corn cakes topped with some pulled chicken! I wonder if that's on the menu? Love it! Since it was brunch time we ordered a couple of mimosas to go along with our BBQ! The stars of the show IMO are the brisket and the cheese curds! I think my preschooler filled up on cheese curds and barely had room for Mac and cheese! I don't love the upcharge for brisket AND chicken on the meat plates. Brisket we expected, but chicken was a total surprise, especially since we got dark! The menu could be clearer, for sure.
