I came here with my coworkers on a rainy afternoon since I was craving cronuts. There was no line so got in-and-out real quick. My coworkers and I grabbed 3 of each flavor plus some small cronuts for people who wanted to watch their sugar or taste it before committing to a bigger piece. THEY WERE WORTH IT! This hole in the wall donut shop makes amazing cronuts and other donuts as well! You have to get the cronuts here and it's awesome how many flavor varieties they have here! The ones I have tried include the chocolate, maple and glazed but my absolute favorite is the cinnamon sugar which I take home and heat up in my air fryer for a few minutes and it is absolute heaven! I eat it by peeling off a few layers at a time and it sooo good since it is warm, flakey and not too sweet. It's like eating a fresh warm churro but on a whole different level! Happy Donut is a nice little shop located in Burlingame and they're known for their cronuts which definitely do not disappoint. This review is only for cronuts since I've never gotten anything else from there. I was craving some sweets and swung by here to get their chocolate, maple, and glazed cronuts which currently costs $2.65 each. They also have an option for cronuts with custard/whipped cream, but the amount of sugar would be more intense than it already is for me. The shop is tiny, but the staff there are nice and the cronuts exceed my expectations. They're so fresh, fluffy, flakey, and soft. It has just the right amount of sweetness to satisfy my sweet tooth and they're affordable as well. It's certainly a nice treat to bring a box of to your coworkers or family. I like their cronuts a lot and I'd definitely try their apple fritters, crullers, and other pastry items they offer in the future. They are open at very reasonable hours as well including early in the morning and the parking lot outside is huge. It's already been said, but they do only take cash unless the total is $10 then they take card which is a downside. This donut shop is opened during the pandemic from 5am to 7pm. I've been here four times and mainly come to buy donuts for my colleagues at the hospital. My coworker loved it so much that she requested for me to bring the donut holes with filling again for our potluck at work last Saturday. I stopped in here one evening right before closing because a friend staying in the hospital across the street had a donut craving. The donuts were good. Like an amateur, I did little research before coming here, besides being informed by my wife that we need donuts, and looking up the nearest donut place. This is why I missed out on their cronuts, which look spectacular. Instead, I tried a sampling box of donuts, which I would describe as mostly hits, with a few isolated misses. When it comes to donuts, however, I think a lot of people just have peculiar or specific tastes (I personally like old fashioned donuts in general, which they do well here, and enjoy risen donuts less, which I found to be just ok). The real hit I would say are their butter milk bars, possibly because they have the highest interior to exterior ratio, you can most clearly taste the nuances of their dough - the subtle tang is something you may not get to appreciate at any old donut place. Other hits: Apple fritter, other misses: cheese danish. A little bonus for me is that it seems they've added banh mi to the menu, which I can't resist. I was surprised that it was executed quite well - I appreciate that they use french rolls that have nice airiness to them, without shrapnel crusts, and the pickled vegetables inside were fresh and crispy. People who know me, know that I luv all things sweets. A dilemma I've faced when I want something for breakfast, is do I get a croissant or a donut? Well, at Happy Donut I can get the best of both world's with one of their Cronuts. The Cronut is flakey like a croissant and fluffy and sweet like a donut. To make it even better, you can get them several ways. You can get them covered in glaze, with cinnamon sugar, chocolate and maple. In addition, you can get them filled with their creamy custard or with whipped cream. To be honest, you can't go wrong with whatever your stomach is craving, because I've enjoyed all of them. My fave are any filled with their custard. They also don't skimp on how much custard they fill inside each cronut, so be aware the custard will most likely gush-out upon chomping-down, so have a napkin handy. For those that enjoy a donut hole, try their Cronut holes. You can also get these filled and another option is their Raspberry filling. It's amazing!
